Nixon mocked Democrats for calling Jerusalem Israel’s capital; now both parties agree on that

By hnn

WASHINGTON — Last year, Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney attacked the Democratic convention platform for its “shameful” decision to omit a reference to Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. But in a sign of how U.S. politics have changed in 40 years, President Richard Nixon complained in 1972 of the Democrats’ ”dishonest” platform language declaring the city Israel’s capital.

Nixon’s national security adviser, Henry Kissinger, agreed with his condemnation during a previously unreported taped conversation from June 29, 1972. “To make Jerusalem the capital of Israel is not the platform of a major American national party,” Henry Kissinger told Nixon. “That is what I find so revolting here.” The tape is one of a collection housed at the University of Virginia’s Miller Center.

On Wednesday, Barack Obama arrived in Israel for his first visit there as president — about six months after telling Democratic Party officials to reinstate language from previous convention platforms stating Jerusalem is the Israeli capital….

2016 Conventions: Democrats May Join Republican Push For Earlier Events

By The Huffington Post News Editors

* Republicans consider shorter primary season, fewer debates
* Campaign finance laws encourage earlier conventions
* ‘Choreographed dance’ involves states as well as parties
By Samuel P. Jacobs
NEW YORK, March 20 (Reuters) – A Republican proposal to move up the date of the party’s presidential nominating convention to early summer in 2016 – instead of the end of August – could trigger a similar move by Democrats, officials in that party said on Wednesday.
Seeking to avoid a repeat of the nasty primary race that damaged eventual Republican nominee Mitt Romney last year, the Republican National Committee (RNC) said in a report this week that it might shorten its primary season for the next presidential election.
For Republican contenders, that could mean a more compact schedule of state primaries and caucuses, fewer candidate debates (there were 20 spread over nine months in 2011-2012), and a national convention in late June or early July.
Party officials say a big reason for changing the schedule would be to identify a Republican nominee earlier to take fuller advantage of campaign finance laws that prevent a candidate from spending funds earmarked for the November election until the candidate becomes a party’s official nominee.
Such a change by Republicans for 2016 could lead Democrats to move their convention to early summer as well, state Democratic leaders said.
“The party that gets their (presidential) nominee out for six weeks, eight weeks early would have an advantage,” said Dick Harpootlian, chairman of the South Carolina Democratic Party. “I think there would be significant pressure” to move up the Democratic convention.
The Democratic National Committee (DNC), which will review the 2016 calendar in September, plans to closely watch the RNC as it determines its schedule this spring.
“It is a choreographed dance that includes the RNC, the DNC, and of course, the states,” said Ray Buckley, head of …read more

Holder Defrauds Supreme Court

By Doug Book

Eric Holder 14 SC Holder Defrauds Supreme Court

In yet another testament to the corrupt if inventive workings of the liberal mind, Attorney General Eric Holder recently decided to defraud the United States Supreme Court in the hope of preventing sections of the Voting Rights Act (VRA) being ruled unconstitutional.

Section 5 of the VRA requires 9 Southern states and a number of jurisdictions in 7 others—all charged with a history of voting rights abuses–to obtain “preclearance” from the DOJ or the District Court of DC before making any changes to state election policies or procedures. Passed into law in 1965, Section 5 was enacted as an “emergency provision” designed to “promote full access to the voting process” and expire in 5 years.

But now, nearly 5 decades later, Section 5 has become the darling of Civil Rights groups, the Civil Rights Division of the DOJ, and liberal bureaucrats throughout the federal government as it has been inexorably extended and amended into a sacrosanct behemoth that virtually guarantees  “election success for certain candidates chosen by certain racial groups.”

It was the Justice Department’s dishonest use of Section 5 that prevented the implementation of Voter ID laws in Texas and South Carolina prior to the 2012 election. In fact, Holder and the Civil Rights Division blocked both laws from taking effect even though the changes proposed by the 2 states were patterned after the Indiana Voter ID law ruled constitutional by the Supreme Court in 2009.

Of course the Department’s behavior should surprise no one, for Section 5 frankly BEGS to be misused by the Democrat Party. After all, it provides a means of accomplishing voter fraud, something that has worked to the benefit of the Party for 6 decades and more. A case in point: Mitt Romney won every state in which Voter ID laws were in effect.

But then something happened. In 2009, the Supreme Court came very close to striking down Section 5 as Justices Kennedy and Scalia lambasted that portion of the VRA, which both believed to be outdated, harmful, and quite probably unconstitutional. And though the Court wrote a VERY narrow ruling allowing Section 5 to escape unscathed in the Northwest case before it, the die had been cast, and the DOJ knew it had to take action in order to maintain its stranglehold on 9 states.

States subject to Section 5 provisions may seek an exemption from DOJ oversight in the form of a “bailout.” This involves satisfying a prescribed list of rigorous requirements in the text of the VRA itself. Once satisfied, Section 5 provisions no longer apply, and the state may initiate the change to its election law.

For years, the DOJ had deliberately made the bailout process virtually impossible to negotiate, even threatening states that dared make the attempt.  But as the Supreme Court had gone to great lengths to grant a bailout in the 2009 Northwest case, the Holder Justice Department decided that bailouts might be the key to salvaging Section 5.

Rand Paul Endorses Immigrant Path To Citizenship

By Breaking News

Rand Paul 4 SC Rand Paul endorses immigrant path to citizenship

WASHINGTON — Republican Sen. Rand Paul said Tuesday that illegal immigrants should be allowed to become U.S. taxpayers and ultimately get a shot at citizenship, a significant step for the Tea Party favorite amid growing Republican acceptance of the idea.

“Let’s start that conversation by acknowledging we aren’t going to deport” the millions already here, the potential 2016 presidential candidate told the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. “Prudence, compassion and thrift all point us toward the same goal: bringing these workers out of the shadows and into becoming and being taxpaying members of society.”

It was the latest sign that the Republican Party is moving to broaden its appeal to politically influential Latinos and other ethnic minorities after significant election losses last fall. Paul spoke a day after a Republican National Committee report called on the GOP to support comprehensive reform, though without specifying whether it should include a pathway to citizenship, which is decried by some conservatives as amnesty.

Meanwhile, a bipartisan group of senators is nearing agreement on sweeping legislation to overhaul the nation’s immigration policy, an effort that could get a boost from Paul’s stance.

The Kentucky Republican said for him to support such an approach, a stronger border must come first, and Congress must agree that border security has improved. The path to citizenship he envisions would come with other conditions, too, that would make it long and difficult for illegal immigrants to travel.

Mitt Was A Hit At CPAC 2013

By capblack

Mitt Romney’s CPAC speech Friday showed America and the world what it had lost last election cycle: a class act with a talent for managing difficult financial propositions and cultural conundrums.

A Romney presidency would have sent a much-needed signal to the wealthy that hording dollars against wealth redistribution is no longer necessary.

Trust-fund babies and job producers are favorite targets of the Left; but at day’s end, they provide employment and contracts to workers and small businesspersons.

A Romney presidency wouldn’t have had a magic wand up its sleeve but would have offered the marketplace a chief executive whom it could trust not to gut in the name of “fairness.”

He didn’t sell some conservatives that he wasn’t more than a moderate changeling who’d do anything to become president.

Their unofficial strike on Election Day contributed to a second Obama victory. Perhaps fatalism has taken root, causing some on the Right to hope this Administration inflicts so much damage that Democrats will be run out of the White House for the next 200 years?

I think a Romney win would have been a less painful way to show Democrats the door.

Watch his CPAC 2013 speech and judge for yourselves:

Black liberals demanded I hate him because of (take your small minded pick) his ethnicity, his religion, his wealth, or the default position: all of the above.

Haters, Left and Right, can now content themselves with continued chaos that is breaking more American spirits than any foreign invader to date!

Mitt Romney was a hit at CPAC 2013.

If you listen closely, the subdued pain in his voice is echoed by millions in a national discussion who hoped Obama’s campaign slogan “Forward” meant looking forward to the next four years without him as president.

Phyllis Schlafly CPAC: Mitt Romney, John McCain A ‘Bunch Of Losers’

By The Huffington Post News Editors

Conservative activist Phyllis Schlafly bashed on Saturday former — and failed — Republican presidential nominees Bob Dole, John McCain and Mitt Romney, calling them establishment candidates who moved to the center based on advice from consultants rather than embracing conservative values.

“We’ve had the establishment pick another loser for us,” she said of Romney, the 2012 Republican nominee, at CPAC. “The fight we have, and the fight I want you to engage in, is the establishment against the grassroots. The establishment has given us a whole series of losers. Bob Dole and John McCain. Mitt Romney.”

“Why is it that the establishment has given us this bunch of losers?” she added later.

School Teaches 9-11 Hijackers Were “Freedom Fighters”

By Breaking News

Islam symbol SC School Teaches 9 11 Hijackers Were “Freedom Fighters”

I’m beginning to wonder what in the world is going on in Texas! First I told you how the public school system in Texas is being infiltrated with CSCOPE curriculum thatteaches that the Founding Fathers, who were involved in the Boston Tea Party, were “terrorists.” Now, word is that in a Texas high school, students are told to refer to the Jihadists who hijacked planes on 9-11 to attack America should be referred to as “freedom fighters,” not terrorists.

Students at Lumberton High School were not only told this nonsense, but they have also been told to stop referring to the Holocaust as Genocide. Instead they used the term “ethnic cleansing.” Well isn’t that nice!
“I don’t think my freshman-level teacher was trying to politicize radical Islam or anything like that,” Valastro said of the 32-year veteran teacher. “I don’t think our teacher has…to my knowledge ever converted a single student to Islam.”Superintendent of the Lumberton Independent School District John Valastro says that the Advanced Placement World Geography teacher did nothing wrong. “What is more dangerous – fear and ignorance or education and understanding,” he asked. “From our standpoint, we are here to educate the kids.” To which I simply ask, then educate, don’t revise history and stop attempting to indoctrinate with political correctness.

That isn’t even close to the point and it most definitely is politicizing the issue when you completely distort who is who. I wonder if this teacher decided to dig into the pedophilia of Islam’s leader or maybe his criminal activity as heattacked caravans and engaged in terrorism or even more those that claimed he was possessed of a demon. The man did not even read or write, according to a pro-Islam source and the Qur’an itself.

47 Percent Filmmaker Had No Health Insurance

By The Huffington Post News Editors

WASHINGTON — After secretly filming Mitt Romney‘s now-infamous 47 percent remarks, a Florida bartender worried how releasing the tape would affect his personal life. He did nothing for weeks after the May 2012 event, wondering what to do. “I actually lost sleep having it in my house — knowing what I heard,” he told The Huffington Post in an interview late last year. “What do you do? Do you throw your life into turmoil?”

The man’s life as a bartender was paycheck to paycheck. He was renting an apartment. He said he didn’t own car. He didn’t have a savings account. He didn’t have health insurance. “I don’t have close family that I could rely on for support,” he explained. “I either pay my bills or I’m homeless.”

HuffPost has agreed to withhold the name of the filmmaker until he breaks his silence on MSNBC’s “The Ed Show” Wednesday evening, followed by an appearance on HuffPost Live Thursday morning. In interviews over the last several months, he laid out his thinking before and after Romney’s speech.
