Boehner Stabbed By Modern-Day Brutus

By Floyd G. Brown

Assassination Gaius Julius Caesar 300x225 Boehner Stabbed By Modern Day Brutus

John Boehner is known as the Speaker of the House who easily cries. Now, it seems that he’s got good reason to cry, as he may not hold his job much longer. You see, the Republican caucus is restless.

This past week Boehner was able to muscle a farm subsidies bill through Congress, but only after he agreed to ditch the 40-year linkage to the Food Stamps program that I wrote about in May.

Boehner has a small majority, with only 234 Republicans out of the 435 House members. But the majority is actually smaller than it looks – and it’s fractured. Tea Party Republicans, who make up about 50 members, are disheartened by Boehner’s continued attempts to work hand-in-glove with President Obama. And another 25 members of the Republican caucus are reliably willing to vote with Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats.

Not only that, but John Boehner is also surrounded by Republicans in his leadership team who are waiting in the wings, ready to take his job. One of them is Majority Leader Eric Cantor. Congressman Paul Ryan, Mitt Romney’s running mate, has been quoted by friends as being interested in the top job. With friends like these two, odds makers are beginning to count the days until a rebellion. One member privately told me, “None of us are too impressed with Boehner’s ability to negotiate with the White House. The tax deal at the end of last year left most of us with a bad taste in our mouth and mad constituents to mollify.”

He was, of course, referring to the fiscal cliff deal that forced many Republicans to support massive tax increases. And now these Boehner-pushed tax increases are partially to blame for 2013’s sluggish economy.

We Won’t Get Fooled Again

Boehner’s new farm bill will be opposed by the U.S. Senate because it failed to include additional money for EBT cards and free food for the working poor and disabled, also known as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). Originally, Boehner included SNAP (otherwise known as food stamps) in his first bill, but it failed to garner enough votes to pass.

Because it cut SNAP by more than $20 billion, most Democrats voted against the legislation. Tea Party-aligned Republicans believed it was still too expensive while the country has a staggering $17 trillion debt.

Additionally, many committee chairmen voted against the original bill, including Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan, Financial Services Committee Chairman Jeb Hensarling, Transportation Committee Chairman Bill Shuster, Veterans Affairs Committee Chairman Jeff Miller and Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Ed Royce.

Faced with his initial failure, Boehner was able to corral more Republican votes by splitting the bill into two bills: one becoming an actual “farm” bill, and the other covering SNAP. Tea Party Republicans consider this an energizing chance to actually cut food stamps by even more than the $20.5 billion spread out over 10 years, as was proposed in the failed farm bill.

Let’s hope this division can withstand the forces of Washington. The two bills …read more

Poll: Bob McDonnell’s Approval Rating Falls

By The Huffington Post News Editors

Scandal-plagued Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell’s (R) approval rating has dropped 12 percentage points in the past two months, according to a survey released Monday by the Democratic firm Public Policy Polling.

A widening FBI probe into gifts from a corporate donors has driven McDonnell’s job rating underwater for the first time in his tenure, according to PPP, with 36 percent of voters approving and 41 percent disapproving. In May, McDonnell had a 44 percent approval rating.

Virginians’ approval of McDonnell, once mentioned as a possible vice presidential running mate for Republican presidential contender Mitt Romney last year, has fallen from 73 percent to 62 percent among Republicans, and from 22 percent to 14 percent among Democrats.

Erase The Boarders And Erase The Republican Party

By Derrick Hollenbeck

Voting Booth 300x168 Erase the Boarders and Erase the Republican Party

We’ve heard ad nauseam the advice from our good friend Chuck Schumer about how the Republicans can win the White House back if they would only grant amnesty to millions of   new Democrat voters and erase our southern border. This is of course a lie designed to destroy the Republican Party akin to deliberately directing a lost motorist to take a washed out bridge during a roaring Nor’easter.  Because what Democrats say and do is so often purposefully dishonest, here’s some advice from a rank and file conservative who actually wants the Republican Party to survive and grow.

The road to future political dominance is blindingly obvious to anyone who can count, but our Republican “leaders” are playing make believe with the clear truth. As damaged as our economy is we are still head and shoulders above the rest of the world’s cultures and economies.

The wagon of America’s economy is pulled by people who understand Judeo-Christian ethics and the value of hard work. Tending to the demands of White Americans, and those who share their values is simply a matter of siding with America’s “makers over our nation’s takers.”

With huge portions of Blacks and Hispanics falling outside of these parameters, it’s very easy to understand why both groups consistently vote Democrat. The Democrat lure of something for nothing is so overwhelming that it is not only foolhardy, but politically dangerous, to believe these “no worries minorities” will ever vote Republican in any meaningful numbers.

Minority groups make up about 32% of the American voting public. Whites are more than double that number at about 68%.  Analysis of last November’s presidential vote  showed that had Mitt Romney merely gotten the same amount of White votes John McCain got in 2008 he would have won despite his poorly run campaign. Further examination shows that had Romney gotten an impossible 70% of the Latino vote he still would have lost. Chasing minority votes is worse than a zero sum game.  The minority votes a Republican picks up by pandering to Hispanics or Black voters comes nowhere near offsetting the Whites who continue to flee the Republican Party in protest.

It is an undeniable fact that Whites and people of like mind and ethic have a bigger stake in the survival of America than those who will flood into our country should the Republicans grant them amnesty. When the lifeblood of America is drained out they will simply pack up and leave for Mexico as has happened since the start of Obama’s depression.

So what does all this say? It clearly says that if the Republicans want to live as free Americans and continue as a national Party they will have to concentrate on meeting the needs of Whites and like-minded people. Democrats focus on catering to Blacks and Hispanics as their natural constituency; why shouldn’t Republicans focus on their natural constituency? Going after a bloc of voters, that is more than twice as large as the Democrat pool of minorities, makes sense even to a fourth grader.

Either Republicans …read more

Born March 12, 1947, in Detroit, Michigan; earned his undergraduate degree from Brigham Young University; attended both Harvard Law School and Harvard Business School, receiving both a law degree and an MBA.

In 1999, Romney stepped into the national spotlight when he took over as president of the scandal-ridden Salt Lake City Olympic Games; the games were $397 million dollars in debt, and were plagued by bribery allegations to make matters worse. As a result, reputable sponsors stayed away from the games. Romney went into the situation very quickly, cutting back expenses and eliminating frills, traveling world-wide to gather sponsorships. In the end, ticket sales surpassed those of any previous Winter Olympics, and the $397 million dollar deficit was turned into a $56 million dollar surplus, which went to fund future Olympics. Romney turned his salary over to charity, and in addition contributed $1 million dollars to the Salt Lake City games.

  • Culpeper • Homeowners Association
It seems that the Town of Culpeper, VA is gradually moving toward becoming a homeowners association rather than an incorporated township. Up until recently, grass height was ordained to be a public nuisance beyond 18". Now, the grass height ordinance has been arbitrarily changed from 18" to 12" or less within the town. The original need for this ordinance was to protect the health and safety of residents from fellow residents who would allow garbage or yard waste to accumulate on their property, with the resulting stench; this could potentially create a breeding ground for disease that might cause imminent peril to the community. Slowly, this has evolved into appearance wants over the original health concerns. The beautification of the town has emerged as the contemporary imminent concern to this overbearing town council. The burden of satisfying their vanity, under threat of penalty, (coercion), is a financial burden beyond the ability of some property owners. The result is loss of property.

If the town upholds it’s ordinance, it must take care of its own property first, to include every inch completely and uniformly without exception. There must not be any targeted or highly visible area being priority. Anything less than this is hyporcritical.

Throwing out the Constitution, Property and Individual Rights in favor of vanity and commerce is the "silent but deadly" trend.

See the town’s actions just one year before…

I very much appreciate the idea behind this website and hope the idea catches on. It is a very unique and original idea to provide a forum for average folks to discuss topics of concern; or, if they prefer not to discuss, to post their own opinions, thoughts and comments. With the birth of the TEA party and the Occupy Wall Street movement, there does seem to be a new thought process emerging in America, a new energy of a citizenry that is no longer willing to stand idly by and watch the government continue carelessly along the same old path. Best of luck with this forum- it should provide a way to communicate and produce solutions to our common concerns!

  • Commentary • Bringing our troops home from Iraq
    Good evening,

I’m writing to tell you that all US troops will return home from Iraq by the end of December. After nearly nine years, the American war in Iraq will end. Our servicemen and women will be with their families for the holidays.

The war in Iraq came with tremendous cost. More than a million Americans served in Iraq, and nearly 4,500 gave their lives in service to the rest of us. Today, as always, we honor these patriots.

When I came into office, I pledged to bring the war in Iraq to a responsible end. As Commander in Chief, I ended our combat mission last year and pledged to keep our commitment to remove all our troops by the end of 2011. To date, we’ve removed more than 100,000 troops from Iraq.

This is a significant moment in our history. For more information, including video, please visit WhiteHouse.gov/BringingTroopsHome.

The end of the war in Iraq reflects a larger trend. The wars of the past decade are drawing to a close.

As we have removed troops from Iraq, we have refocused our fight against al Qaeda and secured major victories in taking out its leadership–including Osama bin Laden. And we’ve begun a transition in Afghanistan.

On the first day of my Administration, roughly 180,000 troops were deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan. By the end of this year that number will be cut in half, and we’ll continue to draw it down.

As we welcome home our newest veterans, we’ll enlist their talents in meeting our greatest challenges as a nation—restoring our economic strength at home. Because after a decade of war, the nation that we need to build is our own.

Today the United States moves forward, from a position of strength.

    Thank you,

    President Barack Obama

  • Sports Politics • Hank Williams, Jr. and ESPN Part Ways
(Reuters) – ESPN pulled Hank Williams Jr.’s theme song from its "Monday Night Football" broadcast in a rebuke to the country music star for comments earlier in the day comparing President Barack Obama to Adolf Hitler.

Williams, a Republican, had appeared on a Fox News’ morning television show "FOX and Friends" on Monday, and was asked which of his party’s presidential candidates he liked.

"Nobody," he answered and then offered unprompted commentary on Obama‘s golf game this summer with House Speaker John Boehner. He called it a political mistake because "it turned a lot of people off."

Obama and Boehner played side by side that day against Vice President Joe Biden and Republican Ohio Governor John Kasich at the height of the congressional budget debate.

Asked what he did not like about the friendly bipartisan golf match, Williams replied, "Come on! It’d be like Hitler playing golf with (Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin) Netanyahu."

"They’re the enemy! Obama! And Biden!" he added.

The network, which is owned by the Walt Disney Co, responded on Monday by yanking Williams’ familiar "MNF" theme, "All My Rowdy Friends," adapted from his 1984 hit song "All My Rowdy Friends Are Coming Over Tonight," from the introduction of the broadcast.

The song has opened "Monday Night Football" on both ABC and ESPN since 1991.

"While Hank Williams Jr. is not an ESPN employee, we recognize that he is closely linked to our company through the open to ‘Monday Night Football,’" the sports channel said in a statement.

"We are extremely disappointed with his comments and as a result we have decided to pull the open from tonight’s telecast," the statement said.

A spokesman for Bristol, Connecticut-based ESPN said it had not decided whether the action would be permanent.

Williams, 62, later issued a statement acknowledging that his "analogy was extreme" but was intended "to make a point."

"I was simply trying to explain how stupid it seemed to me — how ludicrous that pairing was," he said. "They’re polar opposites and it made no sense. They don’t see eye-to-eye and never will. I have always respected the office of the president."

He added, "When both sides are high-fiving it on the ninth hole, when everybody else is without a job — it just makes a whole lot of us angry."

According to media reports, the team of Obama and Boehner beat Biden and Kasich at the summer golf matchup.

  • United States, State and Local Governments • The Mason-Dixon Line
October in 1767, Charles Mason and Jeremiah Dixon complete their survey of the boundary between the colonies of Pennsylvania and Maryland as well as areas that would eventually become the states of Delaware and West Virginia. The Penn and Calvert families had hired Mason and Dixon, English surveyors, to settle their dispute over the boundary between their two proprietary colonies, Pennsylvania and Maryland.

In 1760, tired of border violence between the colonies’ settlers, the British crown demanded that the parties involved hold to an agreement reached in 1732. As part of Maryland and Pennsylvania‘s adherence to this royal command, Mason and Dixon were asked to determine the exact whereabouts of the boundary between the two colonies. Though both colonies claimed the area between the 39th and 40th parallel, what is now referred to as the Mason-Dixon line finally settled the boundary at a northern latitude of 39 degrees and 43 minutes. The line was marked using stones, with Pennsylvania‘s crest on one side and Maryland’s on the other.

When Mason and Dixon began their endeavor in 1763, colonists were protesting the Proclamation of 1763, which was intended to prevent colonists from settling beyond the Appalachians and angering Native Americans. As the Britons concluded their survey in 1767, the colonies were engaged in a dispute with the Parliament over the Townshend Acts, which were designed to raise revenue for the empire by taxing common imports including tea.

Twenty years later, in late 1700s, the states south of the Mason-Dixon line would begin arguing for the perpetuation of slavery in the new United States while those north of line hoped to phase out the ownership of human chattel. This period, which historians consider the era of "The New Republic," drew to a close with the Missouri Compromise of 1820, which accepted the states south of the line as slave-holding and those north of the line as free. The compromise, along with those that followed it, eventually failed.

One hundred years after Mason and Dixon began their effort to chart the boundary, soldiers from opposite sides of the line let their blood stain the fields of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, in the Southern states’ final and fatal attempt to breach the Mason-Dixon line during the Civil War. One hundred and one years after the Britons completed their line, the United States finally admitted men of any complexion born within the nation to the rights of citizenship with the ratification of the 14th Amendment.

This is so very true. We should learn from this and do something about it. Most of my friends seem to be very passive about this stuff. They are so busy trying to make a living and pay taxes. Tax upon tax, regulations and laws that are changing our culture fills their time. There seems to be little quality time with family and loved ones. My friends and I used to sit around and talk about science, technology, how to fix stuff around the house and create things and try to be inventive. Now, my friends seem to have less than two minutes because they have to rush to a business appointment, doing their taxes or are just not in any mood because they’ve been worrying how they are going to make it. Even the cost of driving to see each other is expensive. The price of oil is one thing, but the taxes almost kill us.

  • Commentary • Socialism Growing in the U.S.A.?
If you enjoy your life today, that all is well, productive, successful and believe your grandchildren will have an even better life, then you need not waste time to read any more of this. You are either receiving benefits of social programs or are very fortunate. If the latter, congratulations are in order. Maybe you can share your secrets with the rest of us how you can feel immune, independent and isolated from the condition of our nation and the path it’s taking.

If you’re still with me, then you must be a realist, have your blinders off and know that we are all interdependent. Like parasites on a thriving tree, even the strongest branches will eventually die along with the rest of the tree. The evidence and trend toward a more socialistic government and society surrounds our lives today in the U.S.A. Increased government involvement touches nearly every facet of our lives. We either haven’t studied history or are bound and determined to repeat it’s mistakes. Socialism has never worked in world history, unless you feel China is a success story (that’s an entire other story). Our nation nearly didn’t come into existence due to a "Utopian" socialistic experiment. This part of our nations history has been lost and seemingly not wished to be taught in our schools today. We want to "feel good", rewrite history and make everything seem "wonderful". It’s shameful. Sometimes the truth is difficult and hurts, but the lessons learned help to build a stronger future.

Let me know what you think…..

    The American socialist experiment

    By Charles F. Wickwire
    September 2, 2002

The Mayflower On November 11, 1620, the Mayflower landed at Plymouth Rock. The ship lay at anchor until March, the pilgrims living onboard while permanent housing was being built. When the Mayflower finally left, 27 adults and 23 children were left of the 102 people who set out across the ocean. Their governor was William Bradford and under his leadership, these first Americans began to make a new life in the New World.

What very few Americans today know is this very first colony on the shores of America started out as a socialist colony. The Pilgrims at Plymouth set up a common store that worked on the principle of "From Each According To His Ability – To Each According To His Need". Everything that the colony produced was placed in the common store and was then distributed out as needed.

For two years the colony worked to create a socialist Utopia but even with an additional 30 settlers who arrived a year after the Mayflower, the colony barely survived. Each winter the colonist would go hungry being reduced to rations of a quarter pound of bread at times. Governor Bradford relates his experiences concerning the socialist state he had helped to create:

"The experience that was had in this commone course and condition, tired sundrie years, and that amongst godly and sober men, may well evince the vanitie of that conceite of Platos and other ancients, applauded by some of later times; –that the taking away of propertie, and bringing in communitie into a comone wealth would make them happy and florishing; as if they were wiser than God. For this comunitie (so farr as it was) was found to breed much confusion and discontente, and retard much imployment that would have been to their benefite and comforte. For the yong-men that were most able and fitte for labour and service did repine that they should spend their time and streingth to worke for other mens wives and children, with out any recompense. The strong, or man of parts, had no more in divission of victails and cloaths, than he that was weake and not able to doe a quarter the other could; this was thought injustice. The aged and graver men to be ranked and equalised in labours, and victuals, cloaths, etc., with the meaner and younger sorte, thought it some indignite and disrespect unto them. And for men’s wives to be commanded to doe service for other men, as dresing their meate, washing their cloaths, etc., they deemed it a kind of slavery, neither could many husbands well brooke it. "

Finally, in 1623, Governor Bradford called a meeting to discuss how to have a more productive growing season and be better prepared for the next winter. Governor Bradford writes:

"All this while no supply was heard of, neither knew they when they might expecte any. So they [the pilgims] begane to thinke how they might raise as much corne as they could, and obtaine a beter crope than they had done, that they might not still thus languish in miserie. At length after much debate of things, the Gov. (with the advise of the cheefest amongest them) gave way that they should set downe every man for his owne perticuler, and in that regard trust to themselves… And so assigned to every family a parceel of land. This had very good success; for it made all hands very industrious, so as much more corne was planted than other waise would have bene by any means the Gov. or any other could use, and saved him a great deall of trouble, and gave farr better contente. The women now wente willingly into the feild, and tooke their litle-ons with them to set corne, which before would aledge weakness, and inabilitie; whom to have compelled would have bene thought great tiranie and opression."

It was at this meeting between Governor Bradford and the chief members of the colony that the American free enterprise system was born. Governor Bradford writes about the results of this system:

"By this time harvest was come, and instead of famine, now God gave them plentie, and the face of things was changed, to the rejoysing of the harts of many, for which they blessed God. And in the effect of their perticular planting was well seene, for all had, one way and other, pretty well to bring the year aboute, and some of the abler sorte and more industrious had to spare, and sell to others, 50 as any generall wante of famine hath not been amongest them since to this day."

This little known failed experiment in American socialism isn’t taught in today’s schools. If it was, our children might grow up to doubt governmental programs that redistribute wealth "from each according to his ability – too each according to his need."

FBI Fuels Ideas About Conspiracy

By Walter Roderick

Tamerlan+Tsarnaev 300x288 FBI Fuels Ideas About Conspiracy

It’s hard to think that there are those in our government who would have innocent lives sacrificed in order to further an agenda that only they know about.  This type of thinking is called conspiracy thinking and is looked down upon by those on the left and the right side of our political landscape.  However, some things just make you wonder.

Our FBI was warned by the Russian government in 2011 that Tamerlan Tsarnaev, the older brother of the two Boston Marathon bombers, was a potential threat and that our government should look into his activities.  We hear from news sources that the FBI looked into this man and in the end found nothing that raised their eyebrows about his activities. This is almost unbelievable considering that less than two years later he his a terrorist killing innocent bystanders at a major sporting event.

As the media independent research on the affiliations of these two brothers reveal more and more ties to Al Qaeda, those who believe that our government has plans to keep us terrorized for their own ends continue to gain ammunition for their beliefs!  Most people in this country fear the government intrusion that will ensue if they try to cheat on their taxes and with good reason.

The IRS has a history of foul dealings with our citizenry based on bad information or worse – no information.  How much more would we fear the prying eyes of the FBI, the foremost investigative agency in the world if we had ties to radical Muslim operations because radical Islam is responsible for much of the terror in the world today.

Yet, our FBI is warned by a nation that is less than friendly with us, that one of their own has raised their suspicions about his political intentions in our country, has known Muslim connections and that we should be concerned about him, yet somehow, he escapes being put on a list that all police agencies have access to.

Imagine doing a web search today for how to make a pressure-cooker bomb, or how to make ricin.  You would expect the FBI at your door within hours.  So we should expect that when the FBI is given valid information about possible political activism from a person who is originally from Russia, has traveled back to Russia and now has Russia concerned, that they would take extra precautions in tracking this individual.  But it didn’t happen.  Before you pass judgement on those who believe in a government conspiracy against its own citizens, you should look at the evidence for it with an open mind.

BOSTON — President Barack Obama and 2012 Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney are among those planning to attend a Boston interfaith healing service organized after the deadly bombing at the city’s marathon.

A spokeswoman for Romney confirmed Wednesday the former Massachusetts governor will be among those attending at the invitation of Democratic Gov. Deval (deh-VAL’) Patrick. The White House had previously announced Obama will attend Thursday’s service at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross with first lady Michelle Obama.

By Breaking News

WASHINGTON— Republican Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky says he is considering a presidential campaign in 2016 but will not make a decision before next year.

Paul says at a breakfast sponsored by The Christian Science Monitor that he wants to be part of the national debate and being considered a potential candidate gives him a “larger microphone” on issues.

Paul plans to travel to early voting states of Iowa and New Hampshire this spring and South Carolina this summer as part of the process.

The Tea Party Comeback

By Breaking News

Thousands of Tea Party activists will gather Monday at rallies across the nation to mark Tax Day, April 15–and to re-ignite a movement that had been written off as dormant by the media and the political classes.

After propelling the Republican Party to the majority in the House of Representatives in 2010–and likely for the next decade thereafter–the Tea Party seemed to retreat. It failed in its political aim of defeating President Barack Obama in 2012, largely because of its earlier failure to find an alternative nominee to Gov. Mitt Romney. It was tarnished unfairly as racist, extremist, and–especially after the Tuscon shooting of Jan. 2011–violent, and was blamed even by some Republicans for the debt ceiling impasse in mid-2011.

Yet the Tea Party also succeeded in stopping the rapid growth of federal spending and taxation. The Tea Party ensured that there would be no bailouts for profligate states and no large-scale tax increases. Though it had to swallow the tax increases of the “fiscal cliff” deal in the early hours of 2013, it essentially preserved 98% of the Bush-era tax cuts. And by shifting the national debate in favor of deficit reduction, the Tea Party laid the foundation for the budget sequester–a set of across-the-board spending cuts that the American public has largely tolerated, even in the face of President Obama’s attempts to create panic and outrage.

Does Obama Hate Bank of America?

By Matt Koppenheffer, The Motley Fool

Filed under:

In the final stretch of the 2012 election, President Obama was heckled by some of his opponents for taking out a $15 million loan from Bank of America .

What did the loan represent? Depending on who you ask and which side of the political aisle they sit on, there are plenty of answers. I’d argue that the reality was probably neutral: The campaign needed a short-term loan, and the money from B of A was there and at a reasonable price.

What the loan almost certainly didn’t represent was any sort of presidential soft spot for the “too big to fail” bank. Asked by ABC’s George Stephanopoulos back in 2011 about whether Bank of America’s highly controversial debit-card fee could be stopped, the president responded:

Well, you can stop it because if you say to the banks, “You don’t have some inherent right just to, you know, get a certain amount of profit if your customers are being mistreated. That you have to treat them fairly and transparently.”

Which is wrong for a variety reasons. But that’s a discussion for another time.

Looking back at it though, I got curious: What is Bank of America to the president? A useful lending institution, or a handy political punching bag?

Banking institutions in general weren’t the president’s biggest allies during the most recent campaign. None of his top contributors came from the world of finance. Meanwhile, Mitt Romney‘s top five (hat tip to OpenSecrets.org) looked like this:

  • Goldman Sachs : $1 million
  • Bank of America: $1 million
  • Morgan Stanley : $911,055
  • JPMorgan Chase : $833,096
  • Wells Fargo : $674,076

President Obama did pocket some campaign cash from B of A, but that $257,397 was a fraction of what went to Romney.

And while the president tapped B of A for a campaign loan, his personal finances lie elsewhere. According to his 2011 financial disclosure (again, courtesy of OpenSecrets.org), he has multiple accounts — including a private client account — with JPMorgan. He has another checking account and a 30-year mortgage with Northern Trust . And he has retirement and education savings in Vanguard, Calvert, and PIMCO.

When we put it all together, we can say the following: President Obama doesn’t bank personally with Bank of America, but he is willing to give them business. He received some campaign support, but not nearly as much as his opponent received. And he doesn’t have a whole lot to say specifically about the bank, but he’s ready to jump on it when politically expedient.

Which, if we shoved that through a word-crunching sausage maker, probably yields a very un-shocking conclusion. That is, that the president doesn’t have much of a tightly held opinion on B of A except to the extent that it helps his ends. What are his ends? When it comes to B of A, I’d say it boils down to helping the economy get back on track, and making the banking sector appear to be adhering to and benefiting from the industry changes that have come about during his administration.

Political Consultants Gather At Annual Meeting

By The Huffington Post News Editors

By Samuel P. Jacobs
WASHINGTON, April 7 (Reuters) – This is a golden era for political consultants – well, except for those Republicans still smarting from the November elections.
But Americans’ political tastes tend to run in cycles, so there is always a mix of hope and wariness when consultants at both ends of the ideological spectrum gather, as they did in Washington last week, to toast the profession’s top operatives.
Five months after Mitt Romney was thumped in the race for the White House – a loss that some placed at the feet of the small group of men and women who advised the Republican presidential challenger – the meeting of the American Association of Political Consultants threw together Democratic and Republican operatives who have dedicated their lives to undoing one another’s work.
Even those whose clients lost in November feel they have plenty to celebrate in a business that boasts of increasing sophistication as well as profits.
In a video message played at the conference’s Hall of Fame luncheon on Thursday, President Barack Obama paid wry respects to an industry that is populated by over-the-top personalities but seen by many Americans as fathering the bitter and costly ways of U.S. politics.
“There is nothing political consultants love more than celebrating their own genius,” Obama said.
The 2012 election left many of the Republican campaign professionals feeling less like geniuses after their candidate was outmaneuvered by a sitting president they had believed to be vulnerable.
“Elections make you look smarter than what you are, and more stupid,” said Ed Goeas, president of The Tarrance Group, a Republican strategy firm. “This was not an election for Republican consultants that made us look smarter.”
After the loss in November, complaints among the Republican activists directed at the party’s consultant class have been at full boil.

Pastor Rick Warren's son commits suicide

The Southern California church headed by popular evangelical Pastor Rick Warren says his 27-year-old son has committed suicide.

Warren’s Saddleback Valley Community Church in Lake Forest, Calif., says in a statement Saturday that Matthew Warren had struggled with mental illness and deep depression.

“No words can express the anguished grief we feel right now,” Warren said in a letter to church members.

“He had a brilliant intellect and a gift for sensing who was most in pain or most uncomfortable in a room. He’d then make a bee-line to that person to engage and encourage them,” Warren said of his son in the letter.

Warren is the author of “The Purpose Driven Life.” In 2008, his church sponsored a presidential forum with Barack Obama and Republican John McCain. Obama and Republican nominee Mitt Romney had been invited to a similar forum last fall, but Warren canceled it, saying the campaign had become too uncivil.

Saddleback’s website says that about 20,000 people attend weekend services at the church near Los Angeles.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Tax haven data leak names names, raises questions

It’s a data leak involving tens of thousands of offshore bank accounts, naming dozens of prominent figures around the world. And new details are being released by the day — raising the prospect that accounts based on promises of secrecy and tax shelter could someday offer neither.

Among those named include a top campaign official in France, the ex-wife of pardoned oil trader Marc Rich, Azerbaijan‘s ruling family, the daughter of Imelda Marcos and the late Baron Elie de Rothschild. The widespread use of offshore accounts among the wealthy is widely known — even Mitt Romney acknowledged stashing some of his millions in investments in the Cayman Islands. But this week’s leak, orchestrated by a Washington DC based-group called the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists, appeared to be the broadest in what has been a steady stream of information emerging about hidden money in recent years amid a wave of anger targeting the super-rich in an age of austerity.

The leak allegedly involved records from 10 tax havens, where the world’s wealthy have long stashed funds. It uncovered a shadow network of empty holding companies and names essentially rented out to fill out boards of non-existent corporations, including a British couple listed as active in more than 2,000 entities, according to The Guardian newspaper, which participated in the global undertaking.

The project started with the receipt of a hard drive by an Australian journalist, Gerard Ryle, who took the data with him when he joined the consortium, according to the project’s website. The group, a project of the Washington-based Center for Public Integrity, has said the hard drive arrived in the mail, but did not specify its possible source or how it was authenticated. The consortium did not immediately respond to an emailed request for comment.

Rudolf Elmer, who once ran the Caribbean operations of the Swiss bank Julius Baer and turned whistleblower after he was dismissed in 2002, told The Associated Press that he considers the data to be authentic.

“This comprehensive information is like a torch that will probably set off a wildfire and bring to light a lot more about secretive tax havens,” he said.

The secret bank accounts of the rich and powerful have recently come under a crush of whistle-blowing scrutiny.

France‘s former budget minister, Jerome Cahuzac, was forced to resign last month week after a French investigative website unrelated to the latest leak revealed that he held offshore accounts …read more

Video: ‘The Rich Are The Scum Of The Earth’

No Retreat

By Dave Merrick

flag day No Retreat

After I watched what might have been the last hope for a gasping America collapse last election eve, I knew that my worst fears for this nation had been realized: Mob rule had ultimately been established via the voting booth. A league of mindless dummies, who feed on media pablum the way cattle do at a trough, had been taken out of storage and mobilized long enough to reinstall the media’s chosen candidate. Obama floated back into office resting on a sea of false laurels, empty promises and promotion generated from amongst the highest priests of Hollywood’s most popular puppets. That and shamelessly obvious ballot rigging put the serious hurt on any opportunity for conservatism and reason to find an equal voice outside the ranks of its own.

But what followed the next morning was even more appalling. I began to hear ‘Republicans’ actually ridiculing Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan for what they had represented. Since the two had lost, people who had just the day before been ardent supporters were now distancing themselves from the two lepers who stood to infect them politically. I was amazed at the shallowness of such fair-weather ‘team members.’ But I was even more amazed when the GOP began issuing apologies to liberal America for having so excluded the ‘valuable and noteworthy’ priorities of so many progressive thinkers who want socialized pampering, gay marriage and drive-through abortions. Incredibly, with hat in hand, the Republican Party genuflected before a pack of dogs in trying to secure some future opportunity to garner their affection (votes). It was shameful and downright weird. It was the beginning of the manifestation of the crowd of impostors we now call ‘RINOs’ (Republicans in Name Only).

But their actions had nothing to do with the real ‘Grand Old Party.’ No, it is becoming nauseatingly clear that their compromise is wholly unrelated to a regard for the welfare of our nation or any preservation of its sanity. It is entirely about a group of selfish men and women who are looking to make the world safe for themselves with job security in a climate of trendy electability. To call these people ‘politicians’ insults even the legacies of ‘Boss Tweed,’ Huey Long, Rahm Emanuel and PT Barnum. But they have done us a favor by showing us their true colors. “When a man shows you what he is, believe him.”

Of course I voted for Romney and Ryan – but, for the life of me, I could not understand how in the world we expected to win with those two AT THIS PARTICULAR TIME IN HISTORY. Make no mistake about it, I totally admire the qualities of both men and believe that their clear vision for the needs of our dying country would have been the healing elixir that we absolutely needed. Nevertheless, my most rudimentary marketing sense made me wonder why we would run the 1967 version of Batman and Robin against Obama. The ‘cool’ Barach was already expertly dialed in to the throngs of …read more

Second Amendment: Old School Style

By capblack

second amendment SC Second Amendment: Old School Style

I’m not a New Black Panther. I do have claws, but they’re equal opportunity instead of being anti-White.

My brief isn’t scaring White folks on FOX NEWS or anywhere else by making empty race war threats for national airtime.

I’m also not like mainstream liberal Black activists, foaming at the mouth over Badge-On-Black crime committed infrequently by bad cops, while mum about daily Black-on-Black crime committed by thugs I unlovingly label as “chocolate Klansmen.”

I’m all about Urban Safety, i.e. the God-given right of inner city and other urban Americans to secure themselves and their property against homegrown insurgents.

It’s an old school concept, given the new fervor (really the same old anti-Black Self Defense Argument) on disarming urban stakeholders so we make better targets for thugs.

My personal “Urban Safety Act” is voted upon daily by not accepting the vulgarity and violence some wish to make an inner city norm.

I can take the easy way out and blame Mitt Romney, Newt Gingrich, and Republicans for what we do to ourselves on a regular basis.

Blaming White conservatives for Black (liberal-inspired) crime is a comfy cottage industry.

When yet another young Black man is killed, I could wrap a towel around my neck and sell out as “Cap Black, The Gun Control Crusader” and blame firearms manufacturers for what some Black folks do.

If I scratch where it doesn’t itch hard enough, New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg might throw me a couple of dollars like I’m a monkey buck-dancing to his civilian disarmament organ grinder.

Urban safety is today’s civil right movement, reinforced by a Second Amendment that allows us to defend ourselves like citizens of a Republic, instead of disarmed slaves awaiting abuse.

Memo To RNC: It’s About Principles Not Process

By Steve Deace

Republican Elephant 2 SC Memo to RNC: It’s about Principles not Process

Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus has launched a nationwide “Growth and Opportunity Project” reviewing eight key areas he believes must be examined in the wake of a disappointing 2012 campaign.

While I applaud Priebus for his willingness to engage in some self-critical analysis, the reality is that none of the eight aspects he’s reviewing holds the key to a Republican resurgence. It’s not that reviewing campaign mechanics, messaging, fundraising, demographics, SuperPacs, campaign finance laws, the primary calendar, and successful Democrat tactics aren’t important because they are. That’s why I might spend as much time analyzing the process of politics as any nationally-syndicated conservative radio host does.

But if you’re analyzing what went wrong in 2012 (and is still going wrong for the GOP right now), it begins and ends with its principles—or lack thereof.

No campaign, no matter how well-funded and organized, can rise above its own candidate. Now, a campaign can sink a good candidate (and haven’t we seen plenty of that recently), but it can’t make a bad candidate good because grueling campaigns reveal every candidate’s true character and capabilities. You can’t hide your candidate in today’s multi-media environment where everybody has a camera on their phone and mobile device. If a candidate lacks integrity, consistency, professionalism, or discipline, it will be found out. A good campaign with a bad candidate is like good marketing of a bad product. All that good marketing can do for a bad product is help consumers realize quicker just how bad the product really is once they buy it.

There was no technology, messaging, or fundraising that was going to save Mitt Romney. For heaven’s sake, the GOP was so flushed with cash that the RNC ended the 2012 campaign cycle with unspent money in the bank. No tactic was going to make people forget that Romney was on every side of every issue. No tactic was going to make the conservative base forget how many times Romney had sold them out. The campaign revealed that Romney failed to be bold, consistent, and aggressive. If he does those things effectively and credibly, then the process comes into play; but until he does, the process is irrelevant.

People become Republicans or vote Republican based on issues and not personalities. People become Democrats or vote Democrat based on personalities (identity based politics). This is why Republicans tend to win general elections when they’re about issues, and Democrats tend to win when they’re about personas.

When you think Republican, you think issues: limited government, pro-life, anti-tax, strong national defense, family values, etc. When you think Democrat, you think personas: blacks, Hispanics, single women, homosexuals, young adults, etc. That’s why Obama ran in 2008 on the narrative of being the first black president (or “the one”) and in 2012 on the phony “war on women” meme.

What did Romney run on? He ran solely on Obama’s failures, but that’s not an issue: that’s a complaint. Yes, Reagan famously asked voters in 1980 “are you better off than you were four years …read more
