Kick-Ass Has Met Joss Whedon Over Avengers 2 Role

Aaron-Taylor Johnson has confirmed he’s in talks for the role of Quicksilver in The Avengers: Age of Ultron, and has even sat down with Joss Whedon to discuss the role.

In an interview with Collider, the Kick-Ass star confirmed that he’d been approached for the role and found it to be an “interesting” proposition.

“I feel really flattered and honoured that they came to me for that role,” he said. “I think he’s an interesting character and we’re just gonna keep going into that. I sat down with Joss, I think he’s awesome, I sat down with the guys at Marvel and they’re also great; I think it’d be interesting.”

No Coulson in Avengers: Age of Ultron?

Avengers writer-director Joss Whedon suggests that Clark Gregg’s beloved character Agent Phil Coulson probably won’t be in the sequel Avengers: Age of Ultron.

In an interview with WPRI at San Diego Comic-Con, Whedon was asked if Coulson will return for Avengers 2: “He could. Right now it’s not something I’m pursuing because I have so much going on in Avengers 2. Finding out that Coulson is alive would be an entire B story. And I already have too much movie. That’s better than the other thing.”

Fear not, though, fanboys. Coulson’s back from the dead (if he even was to begin with) as the star of the upcoming TV series Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Avengers 2: No Hank Pym, New Ultron Origin

avengers-ultron-2

The Avengers writer-director Joss Whedon said Sunday at San Diego Comic-Con that superhero-scientist Hank Pym (aka Ant-Man/Giant Man) won’t be in his sequel Avengers: Age of Ultron.

And since Pym won’t be in the film, Whedon revealed that Ultron — the villainous robot created by Pym in the comics — will have a different origin story in the big screen version. (Fans are already speculating that Tony Stark will now be Ultron’s creator instead.)

Comic-Con: Avengers 2 Title Revealed

Avengers2-logo-SDCC

The Marvel Studios panel at San Diego Comic-Con ended with writer-director Joss Whedon taking the stage at Hall H to announce the official title of Marvel’s The Avengers 2, which is … Avengers: Age of Ultron!

You may know that “Age of Ultron” is a relatively recent Marvel Comics storyline so it’ll be interesting to see how much they cull from that for the big screen sequel to the 2012 blockbuster.

Here is the official title treatment courtesy of Marvel and Disney:

Comic-Con: Joss Whedon Gets His Own Panel

Few filmmakers have the power to command their own San Diego Comic-Con panel in front of 5,000 people, but Joss Whedon is simply one of those filmmakers. From Buffy the Vampire Slayer to his upcoming Marvel’s The Avengers 2, this is a guy who’s run the gamut of genre entertainment and has a special place in every fanboy and fangirl’s heart.

As Whedon noted at the top of the panel, there would be no big announcements here. Instead, he opened up the floor to audience members for a good ol’ fashioned Q&A, which in itself can lead to a few newsy tidbits, but this one was mostly just for fun as fans asked about various minutia from Whedon’s past work, with Whedon responding in his own unique, Whedon-y way.

Firefly Will Live On, As A Social Mobile Game

By Paul Tassi, Contributor

Firefly fans, collectively known as “Browncoats,” have been dreaming of the show returning to life in some form or another for years now. Mostly, that’s been the idea of getting the cast and Joss Whedon together for another season. As lovely as the sentiment is, that idea has long been thought of as impossible given the unavailability of the cast and the fact that Fox, not Whedon, owns the rights to Firefly. …read more

Whedon on Avengers 2: A "Glorious Challenge"

With an outline in the can, Joss Whedon is still hard at work writing The Avengers 2 for Marvel. As of right now, the pressure is high, but Whedon seems pretty confident in the direction he’s going.

“The only pressure is the pressure that is there every time I do a new project,” Whedon told Total Film (via ComicBookMovie). “Is it going to be good? It is going to be different? Is there even a reason to make another one? Is there a reason for this to be my next thing? Can I pull it off? I am not going to try and match the box office of the first one because that would be bonkers.”

Reynolds Disinterested in Making JLA Movie

If and when the Justice League of America movie finally happens it will probably won’t see Ryan Reynolds reprising his role as Green Lantern’s Hal Jordan.

“If you’re going to do comic book movies in that vein, you really have to get them right,” Reynolds told Empire. “I believe that Joss Whedon is the guy that just nails it and Christopher Nolan obviously nails it. So if they were gonna do it like that, it would be an interesting thing to do.”

Terminator: TSCC Producer on Kickstarter

There’s been a lot of talk about Kickstarter’s potential to help revive beloved television shows as one-off films following the meteoric and record breaking success of the Veronica Mars movie campaign.

There was, of course, some controversy surrounding the use of the outlet to help back a studio owned property. More than that, though, fans have been speculating about how Kickstarter may be able to help shows that were cancelled before their time – and have since gained a cult following as Veronica Mars did – to come back to life. Joss Whedon weighed in on Firefly as did Zack Levi on Chuck.

This Media Stock Is Going to Keep Crushing Apple

By Tim Beyers and Alison Southwick, The Motley Fool

Filed under:

Think old tech stocks can’t be new tech stocks? If you do, then you’re wrong. Just look at Time Warner , which has not only crushed the S&P 500 over the past year but is also up more than 70 points on Apple over the same period.

Expect Warner to keep winning. Why? Christopher Nolan. According to the website Latino Review, which has an admirable record when it comes to breaking news about comic book movies, Nolan is close to taking a job that would given him complete oversight of Warner subsidiary DC Comics’ big-screen projects, which, in turn, could lead Christian Bale to return as Batman in a future film. At least one site has debunked the rumor.

If Warner investors remain hopeful, it’s for good reason. Walt Disney has hired franchise builders Joss Whedon and JJ Abrams to handle two of its most important properties and with spectacular results so far. Nolan is in that same class of filmmaker.

Will a deal get done? What remains for the DC cinematic universe? The Motley Fool’s Alison Southwick asks Tim Beyers of Motley Fool Rule Breakers and Motley Fool Supernova for his perspective in the video below. Please watch, and then leave a comment to let us know what you think.

Apple may be lagging right now, but the story is far from over, says Eric Bleeker, The Motley Fool’s senior technology analyst and managing bureau chief. ‘S.H.I.E.L.D.’ Pilot: Agent Coulson Will Be At The Center, Don’t Expect To See Hulk

By The Huffington Post News Editors

The “S.H.I.E.L.D.” pilot is going to be all about Agent Coulson.

Though Clark Gregg’s beloved, by-the-book agent seemingly met his tragic death in the 2012 blockbuster hit “The Avengers,” Agent Coulson will be at the center of the new Marvel television show produced by Joss Whedon.

“We all love Clark Gregg, there’s no doubt about that,” Whedon said via taped message to attendees at New York Comic-Con in October 2012. “From before we made ‘The Avengers,’ we discussed whether there was a way for him to be a part of the Marvel Universe, perhaps a part of a TV show even after his death.”

Whedon: Ruffalo is the Key to a Hulk Movie

Over the last month or two, there’s been a lot of talk surrounding a standalone Hulk movie, particularly one adapted from World War Hulk or Planet Hulk. Mark Ruffalo tweeted just yesterday that he wouldn’t be making another appearance as Bruce Banner until Marvel’s The Avengers 2.

Avengers director Joss Whedon also had a few words on the matter last week, but in a recent interview with Deadline the filmmaker expanded on his original answer, noting exactly why he thinks a Hulk movie is so damn tricky:

Joss Whedon Denies Planet Hulk Storyline

We’ve got some bad news for those of you excited by speculation that the plot of Marvel’s The Avengers 2 would centre around the Planet Hulk storyline; Joss Whedon has confirmed exclusively to IGN that this will not be the case.

When we sat down with the director to talk about his upcoming version of Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing, we couldn’t resist asking if there was any truth to the rumours that future Avengers movies would make use of the Planet Hulk or World War Hulk storylines.

His reply, which can be watched in the above video, was, “Well I’m really not supposed to comment, but no, that’s nonsense.”

Speculation that the next Avengers movie would be Hulk-centric began last month when Latino Review claimed that The Avengers 2 would end with Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk shipped off Earth by the MCU’s (Marvel Cinematic Universe) version of the Illuminati, which would in turn lead to one of Marvel’s Phase 3 movies being a live-action Planet Hulk film.

Whedon Comments on a Hulk Solo Movie

There’s no denying that Mark Ruffalo‘s Hulk was one of the standouts in Marvel’s The Avengers. The character has definitely struggled in the past, but many fans have since gotten on board with the idea of giving the Jade Giant another solo round on screen. Although Marvel head Kevin Feige has said a Ruffalo Hulk movie is definitely within the realm of possibility, it wouldn’t be something they’d attempt until after The Avengers 2.

Earlier this week, director Joss Whedon shared his own thoughts on the matter, noting that another Hulk film could potentially work — but not without some clever innovation.

“Hulk is a tricky son of a bitch. He’s the Claudio of superheroes,” Whedon said at the Glasgow Film Festival on Sunday. “Because the problem is it’s a very popular character, but it’s not a superhero. Half of it’s a superhero, half of it’s a werewolf. And you can’t structure it like a superhero movie, you can’t light it like a superhero movie. How do you develop that? It would be extremely difficult. The one thing you would have in your favour would be Mark Ruffalo. But right now I don’t know if they have plans to do that or not, because he works so well as part of a greater whole, but by himself, it’s tough. I don’t envy the guys who went before.”

Buffy’s Mom On ‘The Following’: Kristine Sutherland Guest Stars (VIDEO)

By The Huffington Post News Editors

Yep, that was Buffy’s mom on “The Following.”

Kristine Sutherland, a.k.a. Joyce Summers to legions of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” fans, appeared in the Monday, Feb. 25 episode of the Fox drama as Agent Parker’s (Annie Parisse) mother in flashbacks to the time the agent confronted her parents 15 years after fleeing a cult.

Post-“Buffy,” Sutherland’s other TV credits include “Comanche Moon” and “One Life to Live.” “Buffy” creator Joss Whedon recently revealed that killing off Sutherland’s character was one of the toughest deaths he’s ever written. Hey, at least she’s alive (in a flashback) on “The Following.”

Joss Whedon on S.H.I.E.L.D.'s "Hopeful" Tone

While he’s keeping quiet on the plot specifics — how in the world is Coulson back?! — Joss Whedon gave some updates regarding the much-anticipated S.H.I.E.L.D. to TVLine, hinting at the tone of the Marvel TV spinoff.

Whedon, who co-wrote and directed the S.H.I.E.L.D. pilot, told TVLine, “I’m excited about the show because it’s a very hopeful show. It’s not about murder, and it’s not about crime, and it’s not people looking into their own belly buttons. It’s about people who are trying to help each other, and that’s one of the things I loved about comic books. They had costumes and the villains were cool
