Making Magic with Kurtzman and Orci

Hollywood’s go-to writer-producer team of Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci seemingly have their hands in everything these days — the Star Trek movies, Amazing Spider-Man 2, Ender’s Game, a Sleepy Hollow TV show and much, much more. But they’re also starting to branch out into producing other writers‘ scripts as well, as with their upcoming action-thriller Now You See Me which hits screens on May 31.

In Now You See Me, Jesse Eisenberg and Woody Harrelson lead “The Four Horsemen,” a group of illusionists — magicians, basically — whose act has taken on a Robin Hood angle as they steal from the corrupt rich and give to the poor schlubs in their audience. Mark Ruffalo also stars as the FBI agent who’s trying to outmaneuver the Horsemen, while Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine, Isla Fisher, Melanie Laurent, Dave Franco and Common round out the cast.

Hulk: Not Easy Being Green (on Screen)

Rumblings of a new solo Hulk project have been pretty consistent since audiences became smitten with Mark Ruffalo’s take on Marvel’s Jade Giant in last year’s The Avengers. While there are certainly big plans for Hulk and his role in Avengers 2, anything more is really just wishful thinking on the part of fans – at least at this point.

Both Joss Whedon and Ruffalo have denied any current plans for a new Hulk solo project or the rumored Planet Hulk storyline for Avengers 2.

Let’s face facts: Hulk doesn’t have the best track record on the big screen. I’m not talking about box office returns, but rather reception. We’re all familiar with the vitriol that’s associated with Ang Lee’s Hulk, but even the reaction to the more action-minded Incredible Hulk was lukewarm. While I admit I’m far more attracted to Ang Lee’s version (final 20 minutes aside), I don’t think even a diehard Incredible Hulk enthusiast would deny that Hulk is clearly the outcast in terms of the movie Avengers.

Whedon: Ruffalo is the Key to a Hulk Movie

Over the last month or two, there’s been a lot of talk surrounding a standalone Hulk movie, particularly one adapted from World War Hulk or Planet Hulk. Mark Ruffalo tweeted just yesterday that he wouldn’t be making another appearance as Bruce Banner until Marvel’s The Avengers 2.

Avengers director Joss Whedon also had a few words on the matter last week, but in a recent interview with Deadline the filmmaker expanded on his original answer, noting exactly why he thinks a Hulk movie is so damn tricky:

Anti-Fracking Celebrities, Such As Yoko Ono, Mark Ruffalo And Others, Put ‘Fractivism’ In The Spotlight

By The Huffington Post News Editors

NEW YORK — The scene: a Manhattan art-house theater. The cause: a campaign against the gas drilling process known as fracking that’s being led by more than 100 celebrities, including Yoko Ono, Sean Lennon, Robert Redford, Mark Ruffalo and Mario Batali.

Outside, demonstrators in hazmat suits circle the theater. Inside, actress Scarlett Johansson attends a benefit screening of “Gasland,” the documentary film that has become the movement’s manifesto. Johansson tells The Associated Press that her “Avengers” co-star Ruffalo introduced her to the cause, and that she found the film “incredibly shocking.”

Whedon Comments on a Hulk Solo Movie

There’s no denying that Mark Ruffalo‘s Hulk was one of the standouts in Marvel’s The Avengers. The character has definitely struggled in the past, but many fans have since gotten on board with the idea of giving the Jade Giant another solo round on screen. Although Marvel head Kevin Feige has said a Ruffalo Hulk movie is definitely within the realm of possibility, it wouldn’t be something they’d attempt until after The Avengers 2.

Earlier this week, director Joss Whedon shared his own thoughts on the matter, noting that another Hulk film could potentially work — but not without some clever innovation.

“Hulk is a tricky son of a bitch. He’s the Claudio of superheroes,” Whedon said at the Glasgow Film Festival on Sunday. “Because the problem is it’s a very popular character, but it’s not a superhero. Half of it’s a superhero, half of it’s a werewolf. And you can’t structure it like a superhero movie, you can’t light it like a superhero movie. How do you develop that? It would be extremely difficult. The one thing you would have in your favour would be Mark Ruffalo. But right now I don’t know if they have plans to do that or not, because he works so well as part of a greater whole, but by himself, it’s tough. I don’t envy the guys who went before.”

‘The Avengers’ & The Oscars: Cast Of Hit Movie Reunites At Academy Awards

By The Huffington Post News Editors

Just like the superheroes they played in the movie, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Jeremy Renner and Samuel L. Jackson all huddled together back stage to get a plan together and of course joke around.

Downey suggested the stars of “The Avengers” bow as they headed onstage to make Oscar presentations. Or perhaps curtsy.
