Blizzard Has ‘Special Announcement’ for Gamescom

Blizzard is teasing a “special announcement” at Gamescom. In an invitation sent to press today, Blizzard teased, “We’re making a special announcement that’s sure to capture the attention of the Heavens, Burning Hells and all the shadowed places that lie between.”

The description seems to be hinting at Diablo-related news, and could mean we’ll finally see the reveal of the Diablo III expansion that Blizzard confirmed last year.

Gamescom will run from August 21-25 in Cologne, Germany, with Blizzard’s press conference set for August 21st. Be sure to check back to IGN in August for all the news from the show as it’s announced.

Ryan Kwanten Is Venom in Unofficial Short

If you’ve always dreamed of a Marvel movie shot as if it was a contemporary of Godard’s Breathless, well… you’re in luck. Today’s winner in the unauthorized comic book short film lottery goes to True Blood star Ryan Kwanten and director Joe Lynch for their curious take on Spider-Man antagonist Eddie Brock, a.k.a. Venom. Take a look below, but as you might expect, the actual Venom appearance comes pretty late in the game:

Lynch also made the Punisher short “Dirty Laundry” last year with Thomas Jane. I’m not sure what these guys hope to accomplish with these things, but hey, whatever works for them.

Batman: Arkham Origins Multiplayer to Skip Wii U

UPDATE: WB Interactive has confirmed to IGN that Batman: Arkham Origins multiplayer will only be available for Xbox 360, PS3, and PC.

The recently-announced multiplayer portion of Batman: Arkham Origins may not be available on the Wii U version of the game, according to a press release.

Confusion is currently reigning after the press release, which was sent out originally claiming “the online mode will be available for the PlayStation 3 computer entertainment system, Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and Windows PC” and thus omitting the Wii U, was reissued without the offending paragraph.

Watch Dogs: Aisha Tyler's Role Revealed

Comedienne and actress Aisha Tyler has spoken about appearing in Watch Dogs as a non-playable character before, and today Ubisoft has revealed exactly what her role is. Tyler loaned her likeness, voice, and name to her in-game self, and joins Watch Dogs as a citizen of Chicago, a random character for Aiden Pearce to track and protect from potential crime.

GTA V: 11 New Screens, Multiplayer News Soon

Dignity is hard to come by Los Santos.

Rockstar dropped a slew of new Grand Theft Auto V screenshots in the IGN inbox today along with a tease — “Grand Theft Auto Online” will be revealed this August. Now, we’ve known for a long time that GTA V will feature some kind of online component, but the tease in Rockstar’s last trailer was the only time we’d seen anything in action. Look for news soon as we get closer to the game’s September 17th release date, and until then, enjoy the screens.

The Very Best of Comic-Con

San Diego Comic-Con came and went with a whole bunch of madness in between. If you followed IGN’s coverage last weekend, you might have noticed that there were quite a few notable pieces of news that came out of the event.

You can still see all of it over at our Comic-Con index, but we thought it’d be fun to break down the best of the best across movies, TV, and comics.

The surprise of the con, Warner Bros.’ reveal that the sequel to Man of Steel will actually be a Batman/Superman movie shook Hall H like Krypton in its final hours. We know almost nothing about the film aside from the fact that director Zack Snyder and scripter David Goyer will be back, and that it is scheduled for 2015.
