Star Wars Battlefront ‘Likely’ Coming in 2015

EA has revealed that Star Wars Battlefront is “likely” to be released in summer 2015.

During EA’s annual meeting of stockholders today, CFO Blake Jorgensen said Battlefront will “most likely come out around the same time that the Star Wars movies start to come out, probably in the summer of ’15.”

This fits with the timeframe for Star Wars: Episode VII that was previously announced by Lucasfilm at CinemaCon in April.

Star Wars Battlefront was announced at E3, but no timeframe for release had been indicated until today. Previously, EA said its Star Wars games wouldn’t arrive until April 2014 at the earliest.

Simon Pegg Not Interested in Doing Star Wars

We all know how much Simon Pegg and Nick Frost love Star Wars, but that doesn’t mean they want to be in Star Wars.

”I don’t want to be in Star Wars, I think it would spoil it,” Pegg tells The Age. Never mind that he’s already made two Star Trek movies with director J.J. Abrams, who is jumping universes to do Episode VII.

”When I saw Star Wars when I was a kid, I saw a bunch of people I’d never seen before with some lofty, very respectable older actors in senior roles,” says Pegg. “‘I would hope J.J. doesn’t stunt-cast the film. It would be great to get some new peeps in it, it would be amazing.”

What Is Star Wars: Attack Squadron?

Disney has registered numerous domains for something titled Star Wars: Attack Squadron. Whether it’s related to games, television, film, or something else entirely remains to be seen, but the lengthy list of domain registrations discovered by Fusible shows that Disney is covering every base it can.

Electronic Arts, meanwhile, is the current owner of the domain AttackSquadron.com, which it registered in March 2000. EA last updated the domain on March 27 of this year, two months prior to its announcement of an exclusive Star Wars video game partnership with Disney.

Well, if this rumor is true then some fanboy somewhere is sure to have a conniption.

Latino-Review says director-producer J.J. Abrams and Lucasfilm are eying Ryan Gosling and Zac Efron for roles in Star Wars: Episode VII. “As for what role Efron would be playing, we don’t know. He could be a Solo kid. But what I was told for sure is the Gosling went in for Skywalker’s son. Yes, that’s right Luke’s kid,” claims the site.

D23 Expo: Star Wars, Avatar Attractions

Next month’s D23 Expo in Anaheim will give fans their first looks at Disney’s planned Star Wars, Avatar and Marvel theme park attractions.

“This year we are actually going to have a meet and greet with Captain America at our space; he’s part of Marvel’s Avengers Academy on the reimagined Disney Magic,” Dave Fisher, show producer of the Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Pavilion, told Disney Insider.

Marvel’s Avengers Academy will be Disney’s first permanent Marvel attraction since it acquired the iconic media company.

Samuel L. Jackson Wants Incredibles 2

Samuel L. Jackson has been talking about his desire to make a sequel to animated superhero movie The Incredibles, revealing that he has asked the moviemakers at Pixar the question many times.

Jackson was appearing at San Diego Comic-Con to promote his forthcoming Robocop remake, and was asked what he think makes a good movie franchise.

“The biggest challenges for franchises is keeping them fresh and exciting” he explained. “Most times you need a good bad guy to make that thing continually work. Sometimes they don’t. I’ve been fortunate that I’ve been in some really good franchise films. Star Wars, and now the Marvel series. But you have to have fresh characters coming into the familiar that make audiences want to see them and relate to them.”

Patton Oswalt's Hopes for Star Wars

Comedian Patton Oswalt has been very vocal in comedy routines about the mistakes made in the Star Wars prequels. Over the weekend, at his C2E2 Q&A, Oswalt shed light on how he feels about the next trilogy of films. He said: “I’m skeptical, but I’m hopeful, and here’s why: when Lucas did Star Wars, he absolutely hit the jackpot. He doubled down and a six and a five, they dealt him a 10, and then he said, he wisely said, ‘Hey, I’m going to walk away from the table. They’re comping my room, they’re comping my dinner, I’m good. I’ll just get some proposition player here to keep my streak going. And he just got gunslinger, unflappable writers and directors to come in and just deepen the saga. So, now that’s happening again.

Star Wars: The Old Republic – Rise of the Hutt Cartel Review

I admit, I was a little worried. After all the hubbub surrounding Star Wars: The Old Republic’s rocky transition to free-to-play and the departure of much of its creative team, I was half prepared to boot up the Rise of the Hutt Cartel expansion and hear BioWare developers filling in for actor David Hayter‘s original voice work for the Jedi Knight. Happily, that’s not the case. The last year might have been rough for BioWare, but Rise of the Hutt Cartel reveals refuses to flinch on the promise to deliver entertaining, fully voiced stories that shame the writing and production quality of its competitors.

Even better, Hutt Cartel reveals that SWTOR‘s design team has learned a few important lessons at the gameplay level as well, and while the Force isn’t quite with all of ROTHC‘s individual components, there’s certainly enough agreeable content to warrant a return to SWTOR.

Lucasfilm Boss on J.J., Ep. VII and Secrecy

Lucasfilm boss Kathleen Kennedy was in Las Vegas this week to receive the 2013 Pioneer of the Year Award at CinemaCon, during which time she spoke to the press about Star Wars: Episode VII, J.J. Abrams and how his Star Wars will be different from his Star Trek, trying to keep secrets in the Internet age, and being a role model for tomorrow’s female filmmakers.

Judging from her comments near the end of the interview, it would seem Lucasfilm may be a bit more transparent with information on Episode VII than it was on the prequels or than how J.J. Abrams has traditionally been in regards to the Internet, fandom and secrecy.

How Much 'Star Wars' is Too Much 'Star Wars'?

By Scott Mendelson, Contributor Disney announced two days ago that their new plans, having previously purchased Lucasfilm for $4 billion, aren’t just to make a new trilogy of Star Wars episodes, nor even to make a few spin-off films set in the same universe.  No, they are planning to make one Star Wars movie every single year, with off-shoot films alternating with official new ‘episodes’.  How much Star Wars is too much Star Wars? The idea of a new trilogy of Star Wars films, set to debut ten years after the finale of the prequel trilogy, is perhaps also exciting, even as J.J. Abrams replacing George Lucas as the proverbial leader of this specific universe calls for cautious optimism (Is Star Wars without any real input from George Lucas really Star Wars?  Discuss…).  But how long will the casual fans remain excited about the prospect of new Star Wars films when they appear as frequently as Thanksgiving dinner for years and years on end?

Force March? Disney to Release a 'Star Wars' Movie Every Year

It’s been eight years since the release of Revenge of the Sith, a long time to go without watching someone Force Lightening someone into a crisp. This isn’t as long as the sixteen-year wait between Return of the Jedi and The Phantom Menace. Now it seems that fans of the Star Wars universe won’t have to wait nearly as long between movies. According to ComingSoon, Star Wars fans—who have resisted the moniker Star Warriors—will be getting one new movie each year, starting in 2015.

New Star Wars Movies Every Summer as of 2015

At the CinemaCon event in Las Vegas today, Disney and Lucasfilm revealed that beginning in 2015 with Star Wars: Episode VII, a new film set in the galaxy created by George Lucas will be released each summer

J.J. Abrams’ Episode VII will come first in the summer of 2015 and will be followed every summer after with another new Star Wars movie, alternating between the standalone films we’ve heard about and the new trilogy that begins with Episode VII.

Wow.

As for what those standalone films will be — among the rumored projects have been a Yoda flick, young Han Solo adventures, and my favorite, a Seven Samurai-type Jedi film — we still don’t know. But, of course, more on this when we have it…
