At Sears, You Can Now Buy a Rolex With That Washing Machine

Sears just got a little more fancy.

The department store chain, known for its affordable clothing and home appliance offerings, is now peddling high-end designer duds from major labels including, Chanel, Rolex and Zac Posen.

The designer goods will be sold on The Sears Marketplace through third-party vendors. The move may seem counterintuitive, but a Sears spokesperson says it takes the department store back to its roots, which once included selling cars.

“We’ve grown Sears Marketplace to include more than 85 million items in just more than three years, so while it does include designer items, it also includes literally millions of other items across nearly every imaginable product category at a wide variety of price ranges. We’re focused on serving, delighting and engaging our members while they shop their way,” said Imran Jooma, executive vice president and president, marketing, online and financial services, Sears Holdings in a statement to FOX Business.

However, luxury marketing expert Pam Danziger, says the move is misguided and will confuse shoppers looking for a bargain.

“It just seems totally nuts to me,” Danziger, who is president of Unity Marketing says. “Sears, K-Mart and luxury don’t go together.”

Shares of Sears were up 12 cents to $44.50 on Monday.

Sears Marketplace faces stiff competition in the e-commerce world that is currently dominated by eBay (EBAY) and Amazon (AMZN), which are more widely-known and established. Luxury consumers will likely have trouble making the switch to trusting Sears in making big-ticketed purchases, says Danziger.

“eBay has had success, but that is a function of their longevity and through their ratings system, they have given [shoppers] more confidence. I don’t know how Sears can match the length of time eBay has been at this business to compete with them,” Danziger says.

Offering more upscale items can help a company’s bottom line, Danziger says, calling K-Mart’s move to sell Martha Stewart products a smart decision. But Sear’s move might be too far of a jump.

“Affluent [consumers] only make up about 20% of American households, but are 40% of consumer spending. But Sears is wasting time on this. They should be doing a better job of attracting more affluent customers back into their store, with good merchandise and good service,” she says. “Affluent shoppers buy from all classes of stores-from dollar stores up to Neiman Marcus and Bergdorf Goodman.”

But Sears seems confident the move was a smart one, and will enable it to better serve its customers with more selection.

“When you combine the capabilities of our stores with the broad assortment we have available online, it will help bring an endless aisle of products from our Marketplace to our members and start to blur the four walls of our stores. If our members can’t find the items they need in a store, they can order through …read more

For this season, we got to go behind the scenes as they filmed a very special episode (more to come on that later!), we took an all-access tour (including the newly decorated workroom, designer’s lounge, and well-stocked Belk accessories wall – check out our pics on Instagram!), and we got beauty tips from the hair and makeup team.

Although we can’t share it all with you just yet (darn spoilers!), we did sit down with some of our favorite judges to get all the scoop on the new season in advance of its premiere on Lifetime tonight. After one wild runway show, the producers turned off the cameras so we could grill Heidi Klum and not-so-new judge Zac Posen on all things Project Runway. …read more

The Most Fashionable People on the 2013 Time 100

By Justin Fenner

Time magazine’s annual list of the world’s 100 most influential people includes a handful of some of the industry’s most beloved characters, including Jenna Lyons and Michael Kors.

But it’s not just designers who represent the fashion community on this year’s list. Tadashi Yanai, the influential CEO of Fast Retailing – which backs Helmut Lang, Theory, and Uniqlo – is also on the list, and so is the Oscar-winning face of Miss Dior, Jennifer Lawrence. And while they might not have made the list this year, Prabal Gurung and Zac Posen made contributions to the list by writing about Lyons and Kors, respectively.

Get a look at who else from the industry made the list here in the gallery, and see the full list of this year’s honorees here.

By The Huffington Post News Editors

The last time Amanda Seyfried attended the Oscars in 2010, the actress stunned in her Armani Prive gown but was only there to present an award. At this year’s Oscars, however, the actress’ film “Les Miserables” is up for quite a few Academy Awards — so our sartorial hopes were even higher.

Thus far, the blonde has aced all of her 2013 award show red carpets. Remember her blush-colored Givenchy number at the Golden Globes? And her navy blue Zac Posen stunner at the SAGs? Well, let’s just say, all of these looks have led up to Amanda’s finale red carpet turn at the Oscars.

Flash Mobs

As origin stories go, Mario Testino‘s is a pretty good one. “Years ago, Madonna introduced me to Gianni Versace,” he recalled at the opening of an exhibition of his work at L.A.’s Prism Gallery. “That opened up a lot of doors for me. At the time, I was completely unknown.”

“Unknown” wouldn’t be the word today. Alessandra Ambrosio, André Balazs, Kim Kardashian, and Zac Posen were among the many who crowded the vernissage of Testino’s first gallery showing in the U.S. in seven years. And even for the constantly photographed, Testino stands alone. “He captures the realness in people,” Kardashian said. “He gets them—both as being glamorous and also natural.” Ambrosio confirmed, saying, “He captures the moment—from the colors to the attitude. No matter who he’s shooting, there’s always attitude in the pictures.”

For the photographer, the evening was a rare moment on the other side of the lens, both literally and figuratively. “It’s funny, because we fashion photographers do our work. We’re not usually in front of the firing squad, and sometimes exposing your work in this manner feels like that,” he said. “But it’s great to be here.”

At nearby Madeo, an equally glamorous crowd had gathered for Chanel and Charles Finch‘s annual pre-Oscars dinner. There seemed hardly a corner that wasn’t clogged with star power. At one end of the restaurant sat the young Hollywood crowd, including Chloë Moretz, Gia Coppola, and Zoë Kravitz, there with mom Lisa Bonet; farther inside, Liberty Ross stopped to talk to Liz Goldwyn while Rachel Zoe and Marisa Tomei looked on. In the back were the blondes: Kate Bosworth, Poppy Delevingne, and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley all sat together. As would be expected, Oscar talk dominated the conversations. “I loved Django Unchained, and I loved Life of Pi,” Huntington-Whiteley said. “We’ll have to see what goes on tomorrow.” But even the biggest night of the year in Hollywood couldn’t keep anyone at home the night before. “I’ve been invited to a lovely dinner,” the model exclaimed. “I’d be a crazy woman not to accept.”

Watch It Right Here: The First Full Episode of The Face

By Justin Fenner

“One photo has the power to make or break your career,” Naomi Campbell says during the first episode of The Face, in which a group of 24 hopeful models is whittled down to 12 competitors. “This is the reality of our modeling business.”

It’s a declaration that’s dramatic, but also true. Campbell’s message about the cutthroat nature of the business seems to be the thrust of the episode, which was released online a week ahead of its scheduled television debut.

Campbell and her fellow coaches Karolina Kurkova and Coco Rocha meet the girls during New York Fashion Week at the Spring 2013 show of fellow reality TV star Zac Posen. The coaches then put the two dozen young women through a series of tests, including a one-shot photo shoot and a runway challenge – eliminating girls who don’t pass muster along the way.

But it’s not all slash and burn. After the challenges, the coaches sit down with host Nigel Barker to assemble teams they think have a chance at winning the grand prize. A look at who makes the cut in the video below.

Golden Globes 2013: The Very Best Looks From the Red Carpet

By Christina Perez

Last season’s runway rivalry didn’t quite reprise itself on Sunday’s Golden Globes red carpet – but almost. Hedi Slimane‘s new vision for Saint Laurent found a muse in Rosie Huntington-Whiteley; the model-actress (and her Angelina-esque right leg) looked divine in Spring 2013’s gauzy, bow-necked halter gown. Meanwhile, Raf Simons‘s modern Christian Dior was out in full force on not one but two lovely leading ladies. Jennifer Lawrence – who took home the Globe for her work in Silver Linings Playbook – made a strong case for minimalism in the label’s Fall 2012 crimson Couture ballgown, while Marion Cotillard was a vision of modern-day sweetness in a custom asymmetrical strapless shift.

But Slimane and Simons weren’t the only big-name designers who made an impact on the red carpet. Zac Posen was well-represented; not only did the designer dress Naomi Watts in a gorgeous merlot gown from his Pre-Fall 2013 collection, but he also dressed the night’s big winner Lena Dunham in a raisin-hued gown complete with Posen’s signature body-flattering seaming. Oscar de la Renta, too, had a strong showing. Jessica Alba looked dreamy in the designer’s Pre-Fall 2013 sherbet-colored trumpet dress, while Zooey Deschanel glowed in a vivid red strapless number.

Click through to see all those – plus Jessica Chastain‘s seafoam Calvin Klein, Kathryn Bigelow‘s embellished Prada, Sienna Miller‘s pale pink Erdem, and more – right here in our roundup of the very best looks from 2013 Golden Globes night.
