Do Women CPAs Just Need To Lean In ?

By Peter J Reilly, Contributor

I have been puzzling over the question of why there are not more women at the top in public accounting for some time. That is not the main reason that I interviewed Diane Gilabert, but her answer to that question was probably the most interesting part of the interview. She mentioned the controversial book Lean In: Women, Work and the Will To Lead, by Sheryl Sandberg. Diane made partner in PwC, which is the largest, most prestigous and most famous public accounting firm in the world. At the Academy Awards, when the presenters say “The envelope please”, they are talking to PwC partners, who suprevised the vote count. …read more

Food's "Lifetime Achievement Oscar" – James Beard Foundation Honors 5 Classic Restaurants

By Larry Olmsted, Contributor

The awards handed out by the James Beard Foundation are the tops in the US culinary world, often called the Academy Awards of food, though I recently saw a foodie tweet that the Oscars should be known as the James Beard Awards of movies. Either way, it’s a big deal. …read more

Brandi Glanville’s Chest Can’t Be Ignored In Plunging Minidress (PHOTOS)

By The Huffington Post News Editors

We try not to make a habit of reporting the fashion choices of “Real Housewives” cast members, but some things are too ridiculous to be ignored.

The last time we saw Brandi Glanville, our girl from Beverly Hills, she was turning heads at the Academy Awards in a plunging nude gown that she designed for herself (yes, really). But the reality star caught our eyes again last night at the 2013 Bravo New York Upfront party. Again with the cleavage, Brandi?

This event was decidedly more casual than the Oscars, so the 40-year-old went with a mesh red cocktail dress with a wide-set neckline that practically reached her belly button. Need we say more?

An Oscar Night Reflection of a Different Kind

By Dena Kouremetis, Contributor

As I watched the Academy Awards last night I gazed upon the anointed ones — these performers, writers, scene crafters, directors, producers, movie-theme composers and high-tech animators. Many of them prepare all their lives for these Oscar moments, whether they are on the stage or in the first ten rows scanned by the cameras. When you really think about it, however, we’re all there in spirit somewhere — even the little folk who make their fame possible by paying to see their movies. …read more

Video: Grey Poupon's Pardon Me Lost Footage ad airs during Oscars

By Seyth Miersma

Filed under:

Those of you that took our tip and tuned in for last night’s Academy Awards may have caught the latest iteration of the famous Grey Poupon commercials, featuring a pair of Rolls-Royce sedans and their condiment-loving stewards. The update to the 1981 commercial was only shown in part on television, however, as the mustard company directed viewers to its website to see the entirety of the Lost Footage spot. Of course if you didn’t bother then, you can just scroll down to see the full-length two-minute commercial here.

As you’re viewing, note that the Grey Poupon marketers did not, it would appear, get official sanction from Rolls-Royce this time around. While the Rollers in the commercial have all sorts of James Bond-like accouterments, they don’t appear to have the official Spirit of Ecstasy hood ornaments, for example, and they have restyled lights and grilles. Check out the new spot below, and see if it stacks up to the iconic Pardon Me original.

Mad Max Trilogy Comes to Blu-ray

Mel Gibson‘s dystopian sci-fi series Mad Max will soon be getting the HD box set treatment thanks to Warner Bros. Home Entertainment. For the first time ever, the studio will release all three films — Mad Max (1979), Mad Max Road Warrior (1982) and Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome (1985) — on June 4 in one Blu-ray collection.

Here’s the official statement from Warners: “From the very first film, Oscar winner George Miller (Happy Feet, 2006) proved a master at creating the gritty, bleak dystopian world and staging the incredible car stunts and crashes in the era when stuntmen, not computers, achieved the effects. All three movies starred Mel Gibson, virtually unknown until after the second film, as Max Rockatansky, a highway cop traveling through the Outback in a society descending into chaos. The films started Gibson on his road to international superstardom, led to his signature Lethal Weapon series, and later two Academy Awards for his roles as producer and director of Braveheart (1995).”

How Ted Appeared at The Oscars

Tippett Studio has revealed how they made Seth MacFarlane’s Ted present alongside Mark Wahlberg at yesterday’s Academy Awards, where they presented Oscars for Sound Mixing and Sound Editing.

The segment was brought to life by Tippett Studio‘s Blair Clark, MacFarlane (the 2012 film’s director and host of the 85th Academy Awards ceremony), as well as the telecast’s director Don Mischer and his broadcast team. Here’s what Tippett Studio had to say about the making of the segment:

For the filming of the segment, a duplicate of the Academy Awards stage was constructed at CBS Studios, with lighting and cameras situated to match the Dolby Theatre set up. The feat involved planning exact camera positions so that the animation, rendered using Dell Precision workstations, would integrate seamlessly on Oscar Night with Wahlberg and the show audience. With five nominees in each category, Tippett artists created 10 different outcomes in just a four-week production schedule. As the winners were unknown before the envelope was opened, Mischer and his team sat at the ready to push the button for the correct winner during the live broadcast.

The spotlight is shining brightly on J.C. Penney today. Renee Zellweger Botox Speculations Rise At The Oscars (PHOTOS)

By The Huffington Post News Editors

Renee Zellweger garnered a lot of attention on the Oscar red carpet last night. But it wasn’t her glimmering Carolina Herrera gown that seemed to grab people’s focus, but rather her face. Specifically, its lack of movement.

That’s right, the 43-year-old sparked Botox rumors with her seemingly ageless complexion at the Academy Awards. Twitter was abuzz with speculation, but our favorite commenter had to be fellow celeb Jesse Tyler Ferguson. The “Modern Family” star tweeted a very specific warning to Best Actress winner Jennifer Lawrence:

Kristina Reed, ‘Paperman’ Producer, Kicked Out Of Oscars For Throwing Paper Planes

By The Huffington Post News Editors

A Disney producer was booted from the Oscars on Sunday night after she was caught throwing paper airplanes.

“Paperman” producer Kristina Reed was kicked out of the Oscars ceremony inside Dolby Theatre when security guards caught her throwing paper planes from her balcony seat, according to The Hollywood Reporter. She began throwing the planes after “Paperman” snagged the award for Best Animated Short. The planes were adorned with kisses, like the ones featured in the short.

The planes went largely unnoticed by the Oscars attendees sitting below Reed, but security wasn’t pleased and escorted her out, THR reports. Luckily, the punishment was only temporary and security let her back in after about 10 minutes.

Olivia Munn Oscar Dress Features Sideboob And A Whole Lot Of Leg (PHOTOS)

By The Huffington Post News Editors

The Oscar red carpet is the place where Hollywood’s finest steps out in their most elegant, demure formal wear. The after-parties, on the other hand, are where things get a little interesting. Case in point: Olivia Munn‘s not-so-subtle style transition.

The “Newsroom” star attended last night’s Academy Awards in a billowing, regal Marchesa gown. It was beautiful, but it wasn’t exactly the most convenient party look. Luckily, she had an extra dress on hand for the annual Vanity Fair Oscar Partyif you can even call that a dress.

The Versace Atelier Couture number featured a waist-high slit, plunging neckline, sideboob and was nearly skin color. Basically, it was a couture wardrobe malfunction waiting to happen. After Olivia’s Emmys look, we should have expected this. The 32-year-old wasn’t alone though. Heidi Klum, Brandi Glanville and Naomie Harris all decided to throw caution into the wind last night with their ensembles.

Luxury Watch Spotting At The Oscars

By Elizabeth Doerr, Contributor

When we watch television, members of my family tend to spend at least some of the program shaking their heads at me: I can’t help myself; I’m always watch spotting. And, really, there is no better place to do this than the annual fashion show known as the Academy Awards, more popularly the Oscars. …read more

Oscars Recap – Big Surprises, History Is Made, And The Show Wasn't Awful

By Mark Hughes, Contributor

Tonight’s broadcast of the Academy Awards ceremony went mostly smoothly for host Seth MacFarlane, with a lot of musical numbers and skits that — for the most part — went over well enough that, if ratings see any improvement over past years or just manage not to take a dip, he’ll probably be invited back to host again next year. Unless the Academy wises up and hires the Muppets, because that’s the best idea in the world. But sans Muppets, yeah MacFarlane will likely return in 2014. …read more
