152 Outrageous Shots to Celebrate a True Original: Kate Moss

By Christina Perez

She may be everyone’s favorite bad girl, but so far Kate Moss has been having a relatively quiet 39th birthday. After reportedly receiving several elaborate floral bouquets at her home throughout the day, Moss made an early visit to a London pub with husband Jamie Hince. Perhaps the couple are keeping things mellow because they’ve got big plans for a more official celebration soon: apparently Hince’s gift to Moss is a trip to Napa for a week of wine tasting, art making, spa hopping, and taking in the sun.

Though sadly we can’t tag along to California with them, we are celebrating Moss’s birthday in our way. Herein, a look back at some of the most iconic and outrageous Kate Moss shots around. Please keep in mind that some of these images are NSFW.

Givenchy Pre-Fall 2013

By Justin Fenner

After infusing a modern femininity into nuns’ habits for Spring 2013, Riccardo Tisci created a decidedly more masculine offering for Pre-Fall. His daywear tended toward sharp, clean lines and colorblocking, and pieces that lean on menswear staples (the notch-lapel cape in gray wool is a perfect example of this). That’s not to say there weren’t frills: a geometric appliqué decorated the edges of dresses and a sporty camel bomber jacket, and lace accents appeared on pants, skirts, and sweaters.

The evening pieces carried a little more flounce, attributable to the ruching technique used mainly on skirts, and to the controlled addition of ruffles.

It's Official: PPR Buys Stake in Christopher Kane

By Justin Fenner

PPR just bought a new little brother for Gucci. After months of speculation, Christopher Kane‘s eponymous label is now a member of PPR‘s stable of luxury brands. On Monday, the French conglomerate purchased a 51 percent stake in the company and revealed plans to help it grow internationally.

Some of those plans include adding another ready-to-wear line to the Kane umbrella and opening the brand’s first freestanding store, which will probably set up shop in London next year.

Christopher Kane is already established as a luxury label and has a tremendous intrinsic growth potential,” said PPR CEO Francois Henri Pinault in a statement. “We thus have great ambitions for the brand and will enable it to benefit from our expertise and know-how while providing the space for it to further develop its own creative identity.”

Though PPR now owns a controlling share of Kane’s label, Kane told WWD that the company “understands and appreciates our creative independence.” That said, PPR has not ruled appointing a new CEO for the brand at a later date. Currently, Kane’s sister Tammy runs the business side of the company.

Both sides agree that the primary objective for Christopher Kane is expansion.

“Our long-term ambition for the company is obviously to grow it into a globally recognized brand,” Kane said. “We do not plan to make any immediate or major changes to the way that the business is currently managed. All growth will be gradual and organic.”

Rumors that Kane’s label would join PPR began shortly after he left his position as the creative director of Versace’s secondary brand, Versus. At the time, Balenciaga, another PPR brand, has just announced that its longtime creative director Nicolas Ghesquiere planned to leave the company. Some believed Kane would replace Ghesquiere, but that job eventually went to Alexander Wang.

Exclusive First Look: Arizona Muse Stars in Nina Ricci's Spring 2013 Campaign

By Justin Fenner

Talk about romantic gestures. In Nina Ricci’s Spring 2013 campaign, Arizona Muse is captured in a whirlwind of what appear to be flower petals.

Closer inspection reveals the petals in Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin’s photos are actually small disks of pink paper fluttering to the ground. Art directed by stylist Alex White and Malin Ericson, the ads call to mind the swirl of flower petals that fell from the ceiling at Peter Copping’s Spring 2013 show for the brand last September.

An exclusive first look at the campaign here in the gallery.

On the Street and in the Front Row: The Best Snaps From the Men's Shows

By Christina Perez

It’s always Fashion Week somewhere, right? With Pitti Uomo just finishing in Florence, the men’s collections recently wrapping in London, and the men’s ready-to-wear lines now walking Milan, that new adage has certainly felt truer than over the last few weeks. Thankfully, those recent reasons for hustle have not disappointed – especially in the street-style department. So far in Milan alone there have been glimpses of Tamu McPherson working her magic in vivid hues, Anna Dello Russo giving “borrowed from the boys” a new spin in smart little suits, and Candela Novembre showing her support for the Kaiser in a black-and-white Karl Lagerfeld baseball jacket.

See all those, plus the best front-row and street snaps from Pitti and London, right here in the slideshow.

The Full Prabal Gurung For Target Lookbook Is Here (With Prices)

By Justin Fenner

It’s finally here: after months of anticipation, the full look book and prices for Prabal Gurung‘s collaboration with Target have arrived.

Gurung’s collection of ready-to-wear, accessories, and shoes will be available in Target stores and on its website from Feb. 10 to March 23, and prices will run from $13 to $200. The most expensive piece is a light blue leather biker jacket, while a few pieces of jewelry round out the lowest price point. The offering features a number of floral pieces, and everything in it speaks to Gurung’s modern and romantic aesthetic.

Speaking of romance, it’s fitting that this collaboration would launch so close to Valentine’s Day. Gurung said these clothes were made for falling in love.

“The collection is inspired by a girl’s journey through the different stages of love and the clothes she wears during each milestone – from the first date to meeting the parents to the engagement,” Gurung said.

A look at all the pieces, and their prices, here in the gallery.

Ooh La La: Alber Elbaz's First Cosmetics Collection Is on the Way

By Justin Fenner

For his very first foray into makeup, Alber Elbaz has teamed up with Lancome to produce a line of cosmetics that will debut globally on June 15.

Alber Elbaz is, without a doubt, one of the world’s most influential fashion designers,” said Lancome International president Youcef Nabi. “His sense of luxury, his vision of femininity and that hint of audacity resonate perfectly with the new values of the Maison Lancome.”

Lancome announced the collection on Monday by posting a teaser video created by Elbaz and Pascal Dangin of Box Studios to its YouTube page. In it, illustrated women sitting in the front row of what appears to be a fashion show are seen greeting each other, sending text messages, and cheering in delight for an unseen something coming down the runway. But what will the collaboration look like? That might not be known until the next video.

Golden Globes 2013: The Very Best Looks From the Red Carpet

By Christina Perez

Last season’s runway rivalry didn’t quite reprise itself on Sunday’s Golden Globes red carpet – but almost. Hedi Slimane‘s new vision for Saint Laurent found a muse in Rosie Huntington-Whiteley; the model-actress (and her Angelina-esque right leg) looked divine in Spring 2013’s gauzy, bow-necked halter gown. Meanwhile, Raf Simons‘s modern Christian Dior was out in full force on not one but two lovely leading ladies. Jennifer Lawrence – who took home the Globe for her work in Silver Linings Playbook – made a strong case for minimalism in the label’s Fall 2012 crimson Couture ballgown, while Marion Cotillard was a vision of modern-day sweetness in a custom asymmetrical strapless shift.

But Slimane and Simons weren’t the only big-name designers who made an impact on the red carpet. Zac Posen was well-represented; not only did the designer dress Naomi Watts in a gorgeous merlot gown from his Pre-Fall 2013 collection, but he also dressed the night’s big winner Lena Dunham in a raisin-hued gown complete with Posen’s signature body-flattering seaming. Oscar de la Renta, too, had a strong showing. Jessica Alba looked dreamy in the designer’s Pre-Fall 2013 sherbet-colored trumpet dress, while Zooey Deschanel glowed in a vivid red strapless number.

Click through to see all those – plus Jessica Chastain‘s seafoam Calvin Klein, Kathryn Bigelow‘s embellished Prada, Sienna Miller‘s pale pink Erdem, and more – right here in our roundup of the very best looks from 2013 Golden Globes night.

A Golden Weekend In L.A.

W magazine’s Best Performances party at the Chateau Marmont kicked off Globes weekend in Los Angeles on Friday night. The fete celebrated the February issue, the cover of which reveals a nearly naked Emma Stone, lensed by Juergen Teller. “She’s really It right now,” editor in chief Stefano Tonchi said of the actress. “She’s having quite the year.” You could say the same for many of the boldfacers assembled in the hotel’s sixth-floor penthouse—from Daniel Day-Lewis and Marion Cotillard, who kept company on the balcony, to Connie Britton and her Nashville costar Hayden Panettiere, to Garrett Hedlund and his girlfriend Kirsten Dunst. And 2012 wasn’t bad for Lana Del Rey, either. Hanging out in the lone quiet corner of the party, she reported, “I’m just excited it’s about movies tonight, and not music.”

Stone’s Gangster Squad costar Sean Penn ditched the putty nose he wears in that new flick to host his second annual Help Haiti Home Gala on Saturday. Held at the Montage Beverly Hills and sponsored by Giorgio Armani, the event was brimming with A-listers—including Julia Roberts, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Daniel Craig—all on hand to support the star’s ongoing efforts in Haiti following 2010’s catastrophic earthquake. “It’s very easy to open your heart and write a check during the initial days of a disaster, but after one year, five years, or ten years, it’s difficult to keep up,” Richard Gere told Style.com. “That’s why Sean’s work is so remarkable.” Penn had plenty of admirers. Said Pamela Anderson: “He’s the hottest man alive!”

Over in West Hollywood, guests scurried inside the Selma House at Chateau Marmont to escape the unseasonably cold weather, and to help LoveGold toast Globe nominee Julianne Moore. The guest of honor already won an Emmy in September for portraying Sarah Palin in Game Change. Clad in a black Givenchy dress and vintage Van Cleef jewels, the actress spoke about the HBO film’s critical appeal. “There’s so much show business to our political system. This movie is an interesting way for people to learn about the electoral process,” she said. Moore meticulously studied Palin’s speech and mannerisms for the role. “It was a tremendous amount of observation. But when the film was done, I was done. I wanted to leave it behind.”

Can You Feel It Coming?

New Year’s resolutions were surely broken at the New Museum‘s second annual Next Generation party, but what the heck, the future was being planned for. The kickoff event for the museum’s 2015 Generational, a triennial exhibition of emerging artists, the benefit drew the sort of young and irreverent crowd that’s often in short supply at fundraisers.

Of course, that’s what the Generational is about. (Previous editions have been called Younger than Jesus and The Ungovernables.) The most sought-after man in the room was artist Ryan Trecartin, who is co-curating the exhibition with the museum’s Lauren Cornell. “I’m extremely honored that they asked me,” he shouted, barely making himself heard above the noise.

Trecartin revealed that one Generational contributor had been confirmed: Dis magazine, which had models in promotion-friendly white bodysuits (“YOUR LOGO HERE”) posing animatedly with guests against an illuminated backboard. Many eagerly jumped into the frame, but not Terry Richardson. “The lights freak me out,” he said.

As the gin and vodka started running low at the bar, cohosts Brian Wolk and Claude Morais of Ruffian said they understood why the New Museum was working so far in advance. “Part of being a fashion designer is knowing what people are going to do, being able to feel the air du temps,” Wolk explained. The MAC collaboration they released this summer was more than two years in the making. But Wolk conceded that he and Morais hadn’t done much future-divining—or anything else, for that matter—on New Year’s Eve. “We were babysitting our friend’s cats.”

Lanvin Pre-Fall 2013

By Justin Fenner

Alber Elbaz created a veritable zoo of looks for his Pre-Fall 2013 offering, combining a variety of animal prints with lots of fur. Leopard was the predominant animal here, applied to everything from boots to bags, gloves, and more than one coat. One such piece of outerwear was decorated with black and white beads in a floral pattern, while others were simply – yet lavishly – adorned with a fur lapel. But the wilder pieces in this collection were just as wearable as their solid-colored cousins, which counted a sleeveless gray wool coatdress and a black dress with a leather skirt among their number.

Georgia May Jagger and Terry Richardson Team Up For Rocking Campaign

By Justin Fenner

Does anyone embody the worlds of music and modeling so well as Georgia May Jagger? With her musician father, Mick Jagger, and her supermodel mom, Jerry Hall, the 20-year-old seems the perfect match for photographer Terry Richardson‘s newest project: a campaign for H&M’s Spring Rock ‘n’ Roll Mansion collection.

“I think music influences fashion and has done so for generations,” the younger Jagger said. “Music creates a certain mood and then people dress accordingly. I think it’s all quite closely intertwined.”

But the model says she’s not sure yet whether she’ll pursue either of her famous parents’ professions for the rest of her life. “I’m still so young so it’s hard for me to imagine what I might be doing in ten years time. I really like photography, so it would be great to do more in the future.”

Maybe someday she’ll shoot campaigns of her own. Until then, a behind-the-scenes look at her H&M ads here in the gallery.

Céline Pre-Fall 2013

By Justin Fenner

Phoebe Philo toyed with traditional ideas of shape, proportion, and tailoring in her Pre-Fall 2013 collection. She started off with double-breasted suits that borrowed largely from conventional menswear tropes but finished them with decidedly feminine pearl buttons. Other details, like golden belt buckles the size of small books and saddle shoes turned into soaring platform wedges, were just as eye-catching. But the oversize jackets – made large by inflating shoulder seams and lapels – may have been this offering’s most striking statement.
