Ryan Gosling Embarrassed By Dish Towel (VIDEO)

By The Huffington Post News Editors

Ryan Gosling may be one of Hollywood’s most desirable men, but that doesn’t mean the “Gangster Squad” star isn’t sometimes embarrassed by his own super-celebrity status.

In a recent Rotten Tomatoes interview, posted on YouTube on Friday, Gosling erupted in a fit of embarrassed laughter when he was presented with a dish towel emblazoned with hand-drawn images of his face.

The towel is the creation of Colleen Pugh, a New Zealand designer who sells her homemade creations — including towels, t-shirts and art prints — online.

Is Warners Scrapping the JLA Script?

The outlook is not so good for Warner Bros.’ Justice League of America movie. Rumor has it that the studio may be back to square one.

According to a story from Badass Digest, Warners has reportedly scrapped Gangster Squad screenwriter Will Beall’s script for JLA, with numerous sources citing the same problem: “It’s terrible.”

Some insiders even speculate that the superhero pic may be dead in the water.

Last we heard, the studio was waiting to move forward on Justice League until the release of Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel, but it sounds like that may also mean a whole new screenplay for JLA as well.

    A Golden Weekend In L.A.

W magazine’s Best Performances party at the Chateau Marmont kicked off Globes weekend in Los Angeles on Friday night. The fete celebrated the February issue, the cover of which reveals a nearly naked Emma Stone, lensed by Juergen Teller. “She’s really It right now,” editor in chief Stefano Tonchi said of the actress. “She’s having quite the year.” You could say the same for many of the boldfacers assembled in the hotel’s sixth-floor penthouse—from Daniel Day-Lewis and Marion Cotillard, who kept company on the balcony, to Connie Britton and her Nashville costar Hayden Panettiere, to Garrett Hedlund and his girlfriend Kirsten Dunst. And 2012 wasn’t bad for Lana Del Rey, either. Hanging out in the lone quiet corner of the party, she reported, “I’m just excited it’s about movies tonight, and not music.”

Stone’s Gangster Squad costar Sean Penn ditched the putty nose he wears in that new flick to host his second annual Help Haiti Home Gala on Saturday. Held at the Montage Beverly Hills and sponsored by Giorgio Armani, the event was brimming with A-listers—including Julia Roberts, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Daniel Craig—all on hand to support the star’s ongoing efforts in Haiti following 2010’s catastrophic earthquake. “It’s very easy to open your heart and write a check during the initial days of a disaster, but after one year, five years, or ten years, it’s difficult to keep up,” Richard Gere told Style.com. “That’s why Sean’s work is so remarkable.” Penn had plenty of admirers. Said Pamela Anderson: “He’s the hottest man alive!”

Over in West Hollywood, guests scurried inside the Selma House at Chateau Marmont to escape the unseasonably cold weather, and to help LoveGold toast Globe nominee Julianne Moore. The guest of honor already won an Emmy in September for portraying Sarah Palin in Game Change. Clad in a black Givenchy dress and vintage Van Cleef jewels, the actress spoke about the HBO film’s critical appeal. “There’s so much show business to our political system. This movie is an interesting way for people to learn about the electoral process,” she said. Moore meticulously studied Palin’s speech and mannerisms for the role. “It was a tremendous amount of observation. But when the film was done, I was done. I wanted to leave it behind.”

    Bringing Gangster Squad to Life

We had a chance to chat this week with director Ruben Fleischer about his new movie Gangster Squad, which opens today. Here’s what the filmmaker had to say about bringing his (loosely based on fact) story of the LAPD‘s secret efforts to take down crime kingpin Mickey Cohen to the screen. (Beware of spoilers ahead.)

Gangster Squad Director Talks Spy Hunter Movie

While doing press for his new film Gangster Squad, director Ruben Fleischer also talked to IGN about his plans to bring the classic video game Spy Hunter to the big screen.

IGN: What was the draw for you to want to take Spy Hunter from games to the screen and what’s your overall intentions for the piece?

Ruben Fleischer: For me, my favorite video game was Spy Hunter. I used to play it at the arcades when there were arcades all the time. To me, what’s great about the game in terms of bringing it to a movie screen is that it has a few key components, which are the car, an incredible theme song and the Weapons Van. But we don’t know much about the person in the story, it’s just kind of like this driving game. But I love driving movies and car chases as much as anyone. So I think we can use that as a launchpad to create our own kind of story. When I look at Bond or Bourne, they’re pretty serious and they’re not that fun — I mean, they’re dark. They don’t have that kind of swagger of the old Bond movies where it was just about the exotic locations, the beautiful women and a sense of humor. I’m excited for Spy Hunter, to get to turn it into a really fun, sexy, funny franchise that will hopefully compete with some of those bigger ones in terms of the spy genre.

    Gangster Squad Review

    By Chris Tilly

Based very loosely on a true story, Gangster Squad tells the tale of a group of L.A. police officers brought together with the express purpose of bringing down ruthless crime lord Mickey Cohen. While the story is an intriguing one, the cops being forced to work outside the law to bring Cohen to justice, the telling of it is less compelling, the film stylish and glossy but lacking in substance.

Proceedings kick off in 1949, at a time when gangsters were running riot in Chicago and New York, but failing to gain a foothold in Los Angeles. Mickey Cohen (Sean Penn) intended to change that however, running drugs, guns and prostitutes and taking the City of Angels for all it was worth.
