Simply the best: Tina Turner ties knot in Switzerland

Tina Turner, the US-born superstar famed for hits such as “Private Dancer”, has married her longtime German partner and will reportedly celebrate the union in a Buddhist ceremony in Switzerland Sunday.

The 73-year-old retired singer wed 57-year-old record executive Erwin Bach in a discreet civil ceremony on the banks of Lake Zurich in Kusnacht, northern Switzerland “a few days ago,” municipal official Hannes Friess told AFP.

According to Swiss media reports, the pair will celebrate the union at their Kusnacht manor on Sunday with an intimate Buddhist ceremony attended by 120 guests.

Music industry A-listers including David Bowie, Eros Ramazzoti and Sade are due to attend along with television talk show queen Oprah Winfrey, according to Swiss weekly Schweiz am Sonntag, which also reported guests were requested to wear white.

The bride herself, who traded in her US passport for a Swiss one earlier this year, will be wearing a gown designed by Italian fashion giant Giorgio Armani, according to the newspaper, which did not reveal its sources.

Swiss media reported that a small stage would be set up for Sunday’s party, and that Turner and Bach had sent out letters to their neighbours apologising in advance for the noise they might cause.

Turner, born Anna Mae Bullock in Tennessee, was the voice of such hits as “Simply the Best” and “We Don’t Need Another Hero”, over a five-decades long career, and moved to Switzerland in 1995 when Bach was transferred to the country.

Before her relationship with Bach began in the mid-1980s, Turner was famously married to her musical partner Ike Turner for 14 years.

She left him in 1976 after suffering serious domestic abuse, as detailed in her autobiography “I, Tina,” and alluded to in her 1984 hit “What’s Love Got To Do With It.”

Tina Turner retired from the public eye after a final tour in 2008/2009.

Exclusive: Watch the First Installment of Armani's New Eye-Focused Video Campaign

By Justin Fenner

The eyes have it in Giorgio Armani‘s newest video campaign, Frames of Life, which uses the house’s eyeglasses and sunglasses to tell stories about a group of characters from different walks of life.

The first of four black-and-white videos in the series features a writer named Luc, a writer whose first book – entitled Frames of Happiness – has just been published. His frameless glasses are ever present in the video, which follows him from his home to a local bookstore where he’s delighted to find his work on sale. That one-minute clip went live just this morning on Armani’s mircosite for the campaign, and three more will make their debuts in the coming weeks.

A look at Luc’s video, below.

Patrick Robinson Named Creative Director of A/X Armani Exchange

By Justin Fenner

In the space of two weeks, Patrick Robinson has signed on for another new job. The designer has been named creative director of Armani Exchange, the sporty younger arm of the brand he once worked for, Giorgio Armani.

According to WWD, Robinson’s responsibilities will “range from product development to providing creative direction in marketing areas.” He’ll report to Armani Exchange‘s CEO Harlan Bratcher.

Robinson was last in the news exactly one week ago today when he revealed plans to start a sportswear line called Paskho, which he’s funding through Kickstarter. In his Kickstarter post, Robinson said he lost his passion while he designed for big brands like Anne Klein and Perry Ellis, and wanted to focus on something smaller. “Somewhere between Giorgio Armani and the Gap, I had stopped designing clothes and had instead become the guy who manages the people who design the clothes,” he wrote. “I love to design clothing. Simple, beautiful, comfortable clothing that people can afford. It was this desire that led to my new endeavor: Paskho – ancient Greek for passion. Paskho is my passion.”

A Golden Weekend In L.A.

W magazine’s Best Performances party at the Chateau Marmont kicked off Globes weekend in Los Angeles on Friday night. The fete celebrated the February issue, the cover of which reveals a nearly naked Emma Stone, lensed by Juergen Teller. “She’s really It right now,” editor in chief Stefano Tonchi said of the actress. “She’s having quite the year.” You could say the same for many of the boldfacers assembled in the hotel’s sixth-floor penthouse—from Daniel Day-Lewis and Marion Cotillard, who kept company on the balcony, to Connie Britton and her Nashville costar Hayden Panettiere, to Garrett Hedlund and his girlfriend Kirsten Dunst. And 2012 wasn’t bad for Lana Del Rey, either. Hanging out in the lone quiet corner of the party, she reported, “I’m just excited it’s about movies tonight, and not music.”

Stone’s Gangster Squad costar Sean Penn ditched the putty nose he wears in that new flick to host his second annual Help Haiti Home Gala on Saturday. Held at the Montage Beverly Hills and sponsored by Giorgio Armani, the event was brimming with A-listers—including Julia Roberts, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Daniel Craig—all on hand to support the star’s ongoing efforts in Haiti following 2010’s catastrophic earthquake. “It’s very easy to open your heart and write a check during the initial days of a disaster, but after one year, five years, or ten years, it’s difficult to keep up,” Richard Gere told Style.com. “That’s why Sean’s work is so remarkable.” Penn had plenty of admirers. Said Pamela Anderson: “He’s the hottest man alive!”

Over in West Hollywood, guests scurried inside the Selma House at Chateau Marmont to escape the unseasonably cold weather, and to help LoveGold toast Globe nominee Julianne Moore. The guest of honor already won an Emmy in September for portraying Sarah Palin in Game Change. Clad in a black Givenchy dress and vintage Van Cleef jewels, the actress spoke about the HBO film’s critical appeal. “There’s so much show business to our political system. This movie is an interesting way for people to learn about the electoral process,” she said. Moore meticulously studied Palin’s speech and mannerisms for the role. “It was a tremendous amount of observation. But when the film was done, I was done. I wanted to leave it behind.”
