Lindsey Wixson and Aymeline Valade Star in Chanel's Spring 2013 Video

By Justin Fenner

Karl Lagerfeld must have gardens on the brain. After re-creating a full-scale pine forest for his Spring 2013 Couture show on Tuesday, he also released a video of models frolicking in the gardens of Paris’s Rodin Museum.

In the three-act story, entitled Public Garden, Lindsey Wixson and a fellow blond beauty alight on a bench in the gardens to examine recent purchases from Chanel’s Spring 2013 ready-to-wear collection. After they watch model Aymeline Valade stroll by, Brad Kroening and his 4-year-old son Hudson – who’s also Lagerfeld’s godson – come and sit on the adjacent bench.

Wixson and her friend encounter Valade and both of the Kroenig men in each of the subsequent acts, finally learning how the three are connected at the end of the film. A look at the story – and the all the clothing – in the video below.

Three Weeks Later, the Search For Missing Missoni Still Not Over

By Justin Fenner

It’s been nearly three weeks since a plane carrying Vittorio Missoni disappeared off the coast of Venezuela, and his family is committed to keeping the search effort going.

Vittorio’s brother Luca Missoni told WWD that investigators haven’t ruled out any of the theories about Vittorio’s disappearance. “For this reason, I can confirm that in Caracas not only is the search at sea and on the coast not over, but that investigations continue, without neglecting any possibility,” he said.

Luca had been in Venezuela helping with the search effort over the last few weeks, but he said that a family friend is now following the search party in his place. Luca will travel from Italy back to Venezuela in February, when a ship used for “deep sea submarine research” will join the effort.

Vittorio Missoni was flying from the Venezuelan resort archipelago of Los Roques to Caracas with his wife, Maurizia Castiglioni, their friends Guido Foresti and Elda Scalvenzi, and two crew members on Jan. 4 when their plane disappeared. So far no sign of the plane or its passengers has been found.

Exclusive First Look: Balenciaga Men's Spring 2013 Campaign

By Christina Perez

French actor Jean-Baptiste Lafarge gets the early ’90s treatment in Balenciaga’s Spring 2013 campaign. Photographed by Josh Olins and styled by Sarah Richardson, Lafarge glares warily at the camera while wearing the house’s tropical floral print button-up and pleat-front pants, his hair slicked back in a mullet to match. The facing pages feature the silhouette of a palm frond juxtaposed by light filtering through blinds. It’s a little stark, very moody, and also very Miami Vice. The campaign hits print publications this month and runs through July; until then, a first look at the images, right here.

Shop It Now: Thom Browne Pre-Fall 2013

By Christina Perez

Michelle Obama wore it, and now you can too. Available now at Moda Operandi, is coat that Mrs. Obama sported at the inauguration in DC on Monday.

Among the goodies are a handful of double-breasted dresses cut in the same navy silk tie jacquard, as well as a pleated dress in midnight blue whose silhouette bears a striking resemblance to that now-famous piece of outerwear. For those who admire Thom Browne‘s figure-enhancing cuts but do not wish to be the first lady’s mini me, there are also plenty of other gorgeous, menswear-inspired ensembles; our favorite is an extremely luxe-looking wool houndstooth ensemble made up of a crewneck shell, round-shouldered jacket, and knee-length pencil skirt.

Click through to see the entirety of the Thom Browne Pre-Fall 2013 pieces available for presale on Moda Operandi, and hurry – not only does the trunk show end Jan. 25, but judging by the amount of buzz Browne is currently receiving, these pieces are sure to be snapped up very soon.

Atelier Versace Spring 2013

By Justin Fenner

For her Spring 2013 Couture collection, Donatella Versace imposed the high-impact codes of her house – bright colors, intricate appliques, lots of skin – on strong-shouldered suits, slinky gowns, and minidresses whose hems started at mid-thigh but ended up skimming the floor.

But for all the body-conscious and curve-hugging pieces she sent down the runway (staged underneath the glass dome of the old Paris bank Le Centorial), this offering had a surprising amount of geometry in it. Kristen McMenamy opened the show in a black suit with gold pinstripes, and that linear motif was repeated elsewhere in the collection with pleated skirts, the parallel lines of quilting on a few leather motorcycle jackets, and the slim strokes of fur sewn onto a vest and a denim minidress decorated with bits of metal.

Other embellishments here included oversize crystals tucked just inside those many pleats, and neon leather tubing used to give a little structure and a lot of edge to some of the simpler dresses Versace showed. But even those dresses were fitted with pieces of mesh that showed off their wearer’s legs and thighs.

Fashion's Finest and Hollywood's Brightest Brave the Snow For Dior's Couture Show

By Christina Perez

Judging by the number of bold-faced names at Monday’s Spring 2013 Couture show, the buzz surrounding Raf Simons‘s tenure at Dior doesn’t seem to be in danger of dying down any time soon. Joining Paris‘s usual front-row fixtures – Carine Roitfeld, Natasha Vodianova, Emmanuelle Alt, and Laetitia Casta –  was a host of leading ladies: Jessica Alba, Sigourney Weaver, Leelee Sobieski, and Chloë Grace Moretz. Despite the slushy Tuileries ground and Paris‘s chilly temperatures, there was also no shortage of stylish eye candy to admire – and we’re not just talking about the model-esque male ushers with giant umbrellas who helped each notable brave the snow.

Sobieski – who was a vision in red at Dior’s ready-to-wear outing in October – was no less striking in a Winter-ready navy blue boucle coat, turtleneck dress, and black moto boot ensemble. Also well prepared for the frosty air was Ulyana Sergeenko; the Russian designer and street-style favorite wore a full-length fur skirt to complement her newly lightened hair.

A peek at all the arrivals, right here.

Karl Lagerfeld Sells New York Apartment For $4.5 Million

By Justin Fenner

After several attempts to sell his apartment overlooking Gramercy Park, Karl Lagerfeld has finally made a deal.

Lagerfeld sold his three-bedroom, three-bathroom condo at 50 Gramercy Park North for $4.5 million, according to The New York Post. He paid $6.69 million for it in 2006, and though he had it renovated, he never moved in. CasaSugar reported last March that home had been relisted for $5.2 million.

Investor Sebastian Barrack bought the fashionable apartment, which features a chef’s kitchen, a system of automated curtains, and an open floor plan spanning 2,150 square feet. A look at the place here in the gallery.

Ambassador Anna Wintour? Not Happening

By Justin Fenner

The president is still selecting staff members for his second term in office, but Anna Wintour won’t be one of them. According to The New York Times, White House officials told Wintour in November that the coveted ambassadorship to the United Kingdom – which she was reportedly in the running for after raising millions of dollars for President Obama‘s reelection campaign – would more than likely go to Matthew Barzun, chairman of the campaign’s fundraising effort. As for the ambassadorship to France, Wintour “was a potential candidate . . . but is no longer seeking the appointment,” the Times reported.

Inauguration Celebration: See all of Michelle Obama's Looks

By Justin Fenner

What’s a woman to wear when she becomes first lady for the second time around? Michelle Obama chose a Thom Browne coat and dress for the official inaugural ceremonies, and she wore a mix of equally celebrated designers for the weekend leading up to Monday’s big celebrations.

The coat was inspired by fabrics used for men’s neckties, and Browne told CNN reporter Alina Cho that he picked navy blue because of the likelihood President Obama would wear a similar color.

“She’s such a strong woman,” he said in an interview with The New York Times. “I wanted her to feel good in it and to feel comfortable, strong, feminine, and beautiful.” Browne was asked to submit a design several months ago, but didn’t know that she would wear the coat and dress until today.

The first lady also wore shoes from J.Crew and a necklace designed by according to The Associated Press.

Prabal Gurung, among others. Observers will have to wait until tonight to find out which designer she’ll wear. Until then, a glimpse at all her other inaugural looks here in the gallery.

Christian Dior Couture Spring 2013

By Christina Perez

There may have been snow on the ground in Paris’s Jardin de Tuileries, but inside Dior’s massive, mirrored tent, spring was in full bloom. “The collection reflects the passing of time of the season, beginning as the signs of early life,” the show notes explained. “Silhouettes are in flux, seemingly finding their own forms naturally and yet all expertly tended to and under control.”

Our full review is coming soon, but in the meantime here’s a look at the collection.

Jenna Lyons Opens Up About "Surprising" Love

By Christina Perez

After what many considered her coming out back in November at Glamour‘s Women of the Year Awards, Jenna Lyons has kept pretty mum in regards to her relationship with Courtney Crangi – until now. The J.Crew creative director and industry tastemaker got candid about her newfound love in a recent New York Times article.

“It’s just as surprising to me as it probably is to everyone else,” Lyons explained. “It certainly is strange to wake up, at 44, and look at the person next to you and think: ‘Oh! This wasn’t what I expected.’ But I don’t think love works that way, and I am O.K. with that.”

The Kookiest Runway Looks From the Recent Men's Shows

By Justin Fenner

Whatever happened to the three-piece suit? While the men’s collections shown over the past two weeks in London, Florence, Milan, and Paris featured plenty of office-appropriate suits and weekend-ready sportswear, they also included more than a few looks that defy categorization. Case in point: Where’s the modern man supposed to wear the outlandish wooden headpieces that appeared at the MAN show in London? Would the multicolored shawl from Etro’s show in Milan best complement jeans or wool trousers?

Here, a look at some of the men’s ensembles that may have left viewers with more questions than answers.

Is the World Ready to Forgive John Galliano?

By Justin Fenner

Galliano a three-week residency at his New York design studio on Friday, effectively signaling Galliano’s return to fashion. Will others in the industry – and in the world at large – welcome him back with open arms?

“I think John is doing all the right things,” de la Renta said in an interview with WWD. “Everyone in life deserves a second chance, especially someone as talented as John. I think that life is about forgiving and helping people.”

Forgiveness for the controversial anti-Semitic comments that got Galliano fired from Dior in March 2011 has been hard to come by, but that hasn’t stopped boldfaced names from making public displays of support for the designer. The stylist Patricia Field dismissed the incident as nothing more than a farce. Kate Moss sent him back to work when she asked him to create her wedding dress last year. Grace Coddington acknowledged that his situation was “a tough one to get over” in an interview last month. “I love John; I think he’s brilliant. He certainly intends to come back – when he’s ready.”

Coddington’s boss Anna Wintour told WSJ. Magazine shortly after he was fired, “This is all so tragic.” In April, she was reportedly spotted having lunch with him in Paris, and it’s been suggested that she’s behind his stay in de la Renta’s studio.

“I said and did things which hurt others, especially members of the Jewish community,” Galliano told WWD. “I remain committed to making amends to those I have hurt.”

The question that remains is whether a wider community is ready to accept his apologies.
