Ryan Kwanten Is Venom in Unofficial Short

If you’ve always dreamed of a Marvel movie shot as if it was a contemporary of Godard’s Breathless, well… you’re in luck. Today’s winner in the unauthorized comic book short film lottery goes to True Blood star Ryan Kwanten and director Joe Lynch for their curious take on Spider-Man antagonist Eddie Brock, a.k.a. Venom. Take a look below, but as you might expect, the actual Venom appearance comes pretty late in the game:

Lynch also made the Punisher short “Dirty Laundry” last year with Thomas Jane. I’m not sure what these guys hope to accomplish with these things, but hey, whatever works for them.

Wolverine's Darkest Moments

Wolverine always claims to be the best there is at what he does. But what does he do, exactly? Knit scarves? Debug programming code? Judging from the past several decades of Wolverine comics, we’d argue that what Wolverine does best is endure mountains of pain and suffering. Compared to him, heroes like Batman and Spider-Man got off light.

Wolverine’s penchant for suffering doesn’t look to ease up any as he returns to theaters in The Wolverine this week. This hotly anticipated sequel explores Wolverine’s quest for happiness and redemption after the tragic events of X-Men: The Last Stand.

While usually we celebrate the release of a new superhero movie with one of our Top 25 Comics features, we wanted to do something a bit different for the Wolverine. Instead, we’ve decided to explore the darkest and most tragic events that have shaped the Ol’ Canucklehead across his long life in both the comics and movies. Whether it’s dead girlfriends or dead children, it’s easy to see why Wolverine is so grumpy.

Jamie Foxx Backs Trayvon Martin’s Mom ‘Forever’

By The Huffington Post News Editors

SAN DIEGO (AP) — Hours after President Barack Obama delivered remarks about Trayvon Martin and the George Zimmerman trial, Jamie Foxx and Samuel L. Jackson addressed the racially charged case at Comic-Con in San Diego.

Foxx was at the massive pop culture convention to promote his role as the villain Electro in “The Amazing Spider-Man 2.” Holding his 4-year-old daughter Annalise, who wore a Spider-Man backpack and shoes, Foxx said he was “disappointed” in the July 13 not guilty verdict in Florida.

He had been among the most vocal celebrities expressing support for Martin’s family, having met the teen’s mother Sybrina Fulton at an awards show.

Comic-Con: First Look at Amazing Spider-Man 2

Stars Andrew Garfield (Peter Parker), Jamie Foxx (Electro) and Dane DeHaan (Harry Osborn) joined producers Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach and director Marc Webb onstage at San Diego Comic-Con today to present fans with their first look at The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

In The Amazing Spider-Man 2, for Peter Parker (Garfield), life is busy – between taking out the bad guys as Spider-Man and spending time with the person he loves, Gwen (Emma Stone), high school graduation can’t come quickly enough.

Peter hasn’t forgotten about the promise he made to Gwen’s father (Denis Leary) to protect her by staying away – but that’s a promise he just can’t keep.  Things will change for Peter when a new villain, Electro (Foxx), emerges, an old friend, Harry Osborn (DeHaan), returns, and Peter uncovers new clues about his past.

‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’ At Comic-Con: Sony Brings Spidey, ‘Robocop’ & More To San Diego (LIVE UPDATES)

By The Huffington Post News Editors

“The Amazing Spider-Man 2” hit into Comic-Con 2013 on Friday with stars Andrew Garfield, Jamie Foxx and Dane DeHaan joining director Marc Webb in Hall H for some friendly neighborhood rabble-rousing. (Co-stars Emma Stone, Felicity Jones and Chris Cooper were not scheduled to appear.)

The last time this team came to San Diego for the annual geek event was in 2011, when Garfield — who plays the title webslinger — dressed as Spider-Man and fooled many attendees into thinking he was just another fan before revealing himself to the surprised crowd. Speculation in the lead up to “The Amazing Spider-Man 2” panel was that Garfield would try to top that viral event by swinging onto the stage.

“The Amazing Spider-Man 2,” which Sony is set to release on May 2, 2014, wasn’t the only big feature the studio brought into Hall H. Other Sony films teased included the upcoming “RoboCop” remake and “Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs 2.”

New Amazing Spider-Man 2 Banner Image

amazing-spier-man-2

In case you haven’t heard, Spider-Man is back in his original costume for The Amazing Spider-Man 2. We’ve seen lots of spy photos and tweets from director Marc Webb that confirm this, but not a heck of a lot of official art from the film yet. But in advance of their Comic-Con panel this weekend, Sony has dropped this new image of the suit, along with the film’s new logo:

Hugh Jackman Wants Wolverine in The Avengers

“Why isn’t Wolverine in the Avengers movie?!” It’s a cry heard ’round the world on a regular basis, though most fans are aware that the answer is relatively simple: The Avengers screen rights belong to Marvel while the X-Men characters live with Fox. But Wolverine himself, Hugh Jackman, has hopes that the two parties could come to terms someday and give us the ultimate superhero crossover film.

Here’s what Jackman told Collider this week when asked what it would take to get the characters to meet onscreen:

“I literally asked the same question the other day to Tom from Marvel who works with all the other studios, he works with Sony and Fox, that’s his job to liaise. I said, ‘Man, can this happen?’ and he goes ‘Look, it’s not gonna be easy because you’re working with different studios and they’re their properties.’ But I believe — maybe I’m optimistic, I understand at Marvel they’ve got The Avengers, they’ve got a lot of big things going on, but at some point I just find it almost impossible that there’s not a way to bring Iron Man, all the Avengers characters, Wolverine, the X-Men characters, Spider-Man, and somehow get them in together.”

Disney and the Devil: Together at Last

By Tim Beyers, The Motley Fool

Source: Marvel database at Wikia.

How will Disney depict Daredevil? The comics contain dozens of rich storylines that could inform a script, but knowing Hollywood, a reboot seems most likely. For now, Feige will only confirm that Disney owns the rights, which is a step in the right direction given history.

Big parts of the Marvel Universe

Filed under:

Slowly, Walt Disney is reuniting Marvel heroes under one roof. The latest to rejoin? Daredevil, a blind vigilante whose other senses are enhanced to a superhuman degree. Ben Affleck played the title character in a 2003 feature film that failed to meet heightened expectations.

Newsarama confirmed the shift in an interview with Marvel Studios President of Production Kevin Feige earlier this week.

Efforts to reboot the franchise in later years failed for unspecified reasons. Finally, in October, News Corp.‘s 21st Century Fox returned the rights to Marvel Studios when a deal with would-be director Joe Carnahan fell through.

Here’s a closer look at what might have been:

Sources: Joe Carnahan, YouTube.

Now Disney is in control, and that’s good news for shareholders who’ve seen what Marvel can do when it has creative control of its own properties. I’d love to see Carnahan make a noir film starring Daredevil — something reminiscent of how writer-artist Frank Miller reinvented the character in the 1980s.

Miller gave DD a sharper edge. He also introduced the assassin Elektra as a love interest, subsequently played by Jennifer Garner in the 2003 film and a 2005 spinoff that bombed at the box office. The failures apparently made Fox executives gun-shy despite the source material.

Big parts of the Marvel Universe remain in outside hands. For example, Fox still has comprehensive film rights to the mutant heroes known as the X-Men as well as the Fantastic Four, a superhero family that’s seen action twice on the big screen in recent years while helping to inspire the Pixar Studios hit The Incredibles.

Sony , meanwhile, controls the rights to live-action Spider-Man films. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is filming now and due in U.S. theaters on May 2, 2014.

Daredevil isn’t big enough to fill the void left by the X-Men, Spidey, and the FF. But then again, neither was Iron Man in 2008. Robert Downey Jr. has since made that character bigger than both Batman and Superman when it comes to big-screen earnings.

Does Disney have what it takes to transform Daredevil similarly? Finally, we’ll get to find out.

Iron Man vs. Mandarin: Their Best Fights

They say a hero is only as good as his villains. And every good superhero has his great nemesis. Batman has the Joker. Spider-Man has Green Goblin. Wolverine has non-alcoholic beer. And Iron Man has the Mandarin. More than anyone else in the Marvel Universe, Mandarin opposes everything Tony Stark stands for. Whereas Tony Stark wears the most technologically advanced battle-suit on the planet, the Mandarin wields ten rings of amazing magical power. Their rivalry is one of mysticism versus science, East versus West, and destiny versus free will.

Naturally, the two characters have clashed a number of times over the decades. With Mandarin finally making his live-action debut in Iron Man 3 next month, we figured now was the perfect time to look back at the most memorable battles between Iron Man and Mandarin, ranging from the Silver Age all the way to Matt Fraction’s recently concluded Invincible Iron Man.

This Time, Iron Man Will Crush Spidey

By Tim Beyers, The Motley Fool

Filed under:

For all his success, Robert Downey Jr., as Iron Man, has never proven to be as popular as either Tobey Maguire or Andrew Garfield, both of whom have played Spider-Man on the big screen. All that could change when Iron Man 3 debuts on May 3.

The film could follow in the footsteps of Marvel’s The Avengers, and bring Walt Disney another billion-dollar box office, says Tim Beyers of Motley Fool Rule Breakers and Motley Fool Supernova in the following video.

Sony‘s best performance from a Spidey film came in 2007, when Sam Raimi’s  Spider-Man 3 earned $90.9 million worldwide, according to data supplied by Box Office Mojo.

Do you agree that Iron Man 3 will top that total? Please watch, and then leave a comment to let us know what you think of Disney’s plans to expand the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

By Monte Burke, Forbes Staff

Nicole Feld was born into the circus. Her grandfather, Irvin Feld, bought Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey back in 1967. He ran it until he died at age 66 in 1984, when his son (and Nicole’s father), Kenneth, took over the business, as the CEO and chairman on Feld Entertainment. Since then, the Felds have added Disney On Ice and Monster Jam to the mix. The Feld properties play to around 30 million people a year. A week ago, they announced they would be partnering with Marvel to do a traveling live-action show that involves characters like Spider Man, the Avengers and the X-Men. …read more

Use Twitter to get real-time customer service updates and info

Yesterday, digital-comic-book reseller Comixology held a promotion offering a whopping 700 free comics—first issues of old and new series ranging from The Avengers to The Fantastic Four to Spider-Man.

For a total cost of $0, you could read these gems on the Web or your PC, tablet, or smartphone.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, the giveaway was so popular, it turned into Kryptonite for Comixology’s servers. I tried all day to create an account and grab some free comics, but simply couldn’t connect.

Twitter to the rescue! Well, sort of. Seeking information about the situation, and hoping to find out when it might get resolved, I headed to Twitter and searched for Comixology. Two results: one feed for the company itself (@comixology) and another for support (@cmxsupport)! And, sure enough, the latter had all kinds of info and updates regarding the outage.

Raimi Blames Blizzard for Warcraft Falling Apart

You may recall that Spider-Man and Evil Dead director Sam Raimi was once attached to turn Warcraft into a feature film for Legendary Pictures. While doing press for his new release Oz the Great and Powerful, Raimi recalled why the project didn’t happen.

In a chat with Vulture, Raimi said:

“Robert Rodat was working on the script, and it was taking a long time. I think they were getting a little antsy at Legendary, the production company. Actually, what happened was even more complicated, so let me go back a little bit. First, they asked me if I wanted to make it, and I said, ‘Yes, I love World of Warcraft, and I think it would make a great picture.’ So I read a screenplay they had that was written by the guys at
