Ryan Kwanten Is Venom in Unofficial Short

If you’ve always dreamed of a Marvel movie shot as if it was a contemporary of Godard’s Breathless, well… you’re in luck. Today’s winner in the unauthorized comic book short film lottery goes to True Blood star Ryan Kwanten and director Joe Lynch for their curious take on Spider-Man antagonist Eddie Brock, a.k.a. Venom. Take a look below, but as you might expect, the actual Venom appearance comes pretty late in the game:

Lynch also made the Punisher short “Dirty Laundry” last year with Thomas Jane. I’m not sure what these guys hope to accomplish with these things, but hey, whatever works for them.

Sports And Contest Shows Are The Only Things That Matter On Live TV Now

By Dorothy Pomerantz, Forbes Staff

As it gets easier to watch shows we love outside of the broadcast prime time schedule, the whole concept of live television is starting to seem a little old fashioned. The most buzzed about shows right now are on and HBO. Just look at the recent rundown of Emmy nominees. HBO scored 108 nominations. Thanks to VOD and HBO To Go, it doesn’t matter when shows like Game of Thrones and True Blood air. You can watch, or binge on them, whenever you want. …read more

Superhero Style: See What All the Celebs Wore to Comic-Con

By Justin Fenner

Some of Hollywood’s brightest and most stylish stars invaded San Diego over the weekend for Comic-Con. And while the convention regularly plays host to comic book and movie fans who dress up like their favorite fantasy characters, it’s also home to some serious fashion plates. All eyes were on Hailee Steinfeld when she wore a Fall 2013 Kenzo dress, a red creation covered in an ocular motif, at an event for fans of her movie Ender’s Game. True Blood‘s Anna Paquin wore a not-so-basic black ensemble to sign autographs, and Zoe Saldana attended a press event for Marvel Studios wearing a stunning blue jumpsuit.

A look at those outfits and more style stars at the convention, here in the gallery.

Comic-Con: Days of Future Past Plans

20th Century Fox has been coy about what sort of presence the X-Men franchise will have at this week’s San Diego Comic-Con. The Hollywood Reporter recently confirmed that The Wolverine will be there at Saturday’s Fox presentation, and now a new report claims that, as suspected, X-Men: Days of Future Past will be the panel’s “secret” film.

According to Vulture, “the Bryan Singer–helmed film will be sending over a dozen cast members to San Diego to tease the ambitious sequel.” We already know Hugh Jackman, Jennifer Lawrence, Anna Paquin, Shawn Ashmore, and Peter Dinklage will already be at Comic-Con for, respectively, The Wolverine, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, True Blood, The Following, and Game of Thrones. So that leaves the likes of James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart, Halle Berry, Ellen Page, Evan Peters, Nicholas Hoult, Omar Sy, Daniel Cudmore, and Lucas Till, who Bryan Singer revealed via Twitter is reprising his First Class role of Havok (see the pic Singer tweeted below).

What You (Hopefully) Missed On Season One Of 'The Newsroom'

By Jeff Bercovici, Forbes Staff

“The Newsroom” is writer-director Aaron Sorkin’s remarkably bad dramatization of the goings-on at a fictional 24-hour cable news channel. “Remarkably” because, while HBO has served up trashy guilty pleasures (“True Blood”) and gnomic bafflers (“John From Cincinnati”), it had at least managed to avoid producing anything that felt like a second-rate network series. While critical reception was mostly lukewarm to chilly, the show drew enough viewers to earn a second season. …read more

First Footage of World of Darkness Vampire MMO Shown

At EVE Fanfest in Iceland, CCP showed the first footage of vampire MMO World of Darkness to a roomful of fans. It was more target footage than a representation of what the game looks like right now – it’s still far from release – but it’s the first tangible indication we’ve had of what this long-anticipated game is going to be like.

It looked super-stylish, embracing the sultry swagger and urban grime of modern vampire fiction. The player character – a female vampire – began by sucking a bystander dry in a rainy back alley, before striding past a True Blood-esque bar and leaning up against a railing whilst other vampires leaped across the American-style city rooftops in the background. The movement is agile and fast, almost spider-like; World of Darkness will be a very movement-centric MMO, aiming for something close to Assassin’s Creed’s city free-running.

DeHaan Talks Amazing Spidey 2 and More

Actor Dane DeHaan (Chronicle, In Treatment, True Blood) recently chatted with us about his new movie The Place Beyond the Pines (now playing in limited release), as well as his future stint as Harry Osborn in The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Check it out.

IGN Movies: I was curious after watching the movie, do you think that your character Jason was sort of a ticking time bomb anyway that AJ just happened to spark, or is AJ really to blame?

Dane DeHaan: I don’t think it’s AJ’s fault, no. I think that Jason’s just a kid who feels out of place, and he lets that consume him, so he goes on this quest for answers, to figure out what this thing is. He feels like if he can figure it out, it’ll unlock him as a person. That’s what drives him, that’s kind of his driving force. He wants find answers, and he wants to blaze his own trail, carve his own path. Unfortunately, he goes about it in ways that are not very helpful, but while he’s doing them he thinks they’re the right things to be doing.

‘Game Of Thrones’ Fans Are Begging For More Male Nudity

By The Huffington Post News Editors

Game of Thrones? That’s the show with the boobies, right? Well, yes; like so many HBO dramas (including True Blood and Boardwalk Empire), Thrones serves up female flesh in situations both dramatically integral and superfluous. Some viewers have a problem with that. Since its 2011 debut, Thrones has been attacked for “gratuitous” nudity and labeled sexist for stripping its women more often than its men.

‘True Blood’ Season 6: Showrunner Mark Hudis Replaced With Brian Buckner

By The Huffington Post News Editors

True BloodSeason 6 may prove to be the HBO series’ most dramatic year yet — and it’s all because of what’s going on behind the scenes. The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that new showrunner Mark Hudis — who replaced creator Alan Ball after Season 5 — has himself been replaced by producer Brian Buckner.

Mark Hudis has stepped down as showrunner of ‘True Blood‘ to focus on development under his overall deal with the network,” an HBO spokesperson said in a statement.

While Ball’s departure was expected — he chose to leave the series to develop “Banshee” for HBO‘s sister network, Cinemax — Hudis’ abrupt exit in the midst of Season 6 seems a little less planned. In Jaunuary, Hudis gave an interview previewing Season 6, in which he told Haverford College magazine that the once heroic Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer) would go through some changes: “Certainly he’s not going to be the Bill we know and love. He’s going to have more bite, no pun intended.”
