Disney and the Devil: Together at Last

By Tim Beyers, The Motley Fool

How will Disney depict Daredevil? The comics contain dozens of rich storylines that could inform a script, but knowing Hollywood, a reboot seems most likely. For now, Feige will only confirm that Disney owns the rights, which is a step in the right direction given history.

Big parts of the Marvel Universe

Slowly, Walt Disney is reuniting Marvel heroes under one roof. The latest to rejoin? Daredevil, a blind vigilante whose other senses are enhanced to a superhuman degree. Ben Affleck played the title character in a 2003 feature film that failed to meet heightened expectations.

Newsarama confirmed the shift in an interview with Marvel Studios President of Production Kevin Feige earlier this week.

Efforts to reboot the franchise in later years failed for unspecified reasons. Finally, in October, News Corp.‘s 21st Century Fox returned the rights to Marvel Studios when a deal with would-be director Joe Carnahan fell through.

Here’s a closer look at what might have been:

Now Disney is in control, and that’s good news for shareholders who’ve seen what Marvel can do when it has creative control of its own properties. I’d love to see Carnahan make a noir film starring Daredevil — something reminiscent of how writer-artist Frank Miller reinvented the character in the 1980s.

Miller gave DD a sharper edge. He also introduced the assassin Elektra as a love interest, subsequently played by Jennifer Garner in the 2003 film and a 2005 spinoff that bombed at the box office. The failures apparently made Fox executives gun-shy despite the source material.

Big parts of the Marvel Universe remain in outside hands. For example, Fox still has comprehensive film rights to the mutant heroes known as the X-Men as well as the Fantastic Four, a superhero family that’s seen action twice on the big screen in recent years while helping to inspire the Pixar Studios hit The Incredibles.

Sony , meanwhile, controls the rights to live-action Spider-Man films. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is filming now and due in U.S. theaters on May 2, 2014.

Daredevil isn’t big enough to fill the void left by the X-Men, Spidey, and the FF. But then again, neither was Iron Man in 2008. Robert Downey Jr. has since made that character bigger than both Batman and Superman when it comes to big-screen earnings.

Does Disney have what it takes to transform Daredevil similarly? Finally, we’ll get to find out.

Ninja Turtles Star Also Up for Fantastic Four?

Earlier this week, it was revealed that Noel Fisher (Shameless, Battle Los Angeles) will play Michelangelo in Michael Bay‘s upcoming Ninja Turtles flick. Now, it sounds like the actor could be up for another comic book movie role, this time for Fox’s Fantastic Four Reborn.

According to former Variety journalist Jeff Sneider (via Celluloid and Cigarette Burns), Fisher might be in the mix for a part in the FF reboot, which is hoping to begin production later this year with Josh Trank directing.

Valorie Zimmerman: Adventures in the CLI: fixing sound using apt logs

Plunging back into community involvement this week meant installing mumble, a free messaging system. The virtual UDS (Ubuntu Developer Summit) Canonical is hosting at short notice this week (today and tomorrow, actually) is being conducted on Google Hangouts. While these can be cool, they limit participation to ten, and to those who have GooglePlus logins. So the Kubuntu devels wanted to try mumble instead for our meeting(s).

I usually use apt-get to upgrade and install packages, just because it is faster and easier. Alt-F12 to get nifty drop-down bash session, up-arrow to get to commonly used commands, and viola, done! However, this time apt-get installed most of GNOME along with mumble, such as evolution, plus gnucash and other stuff! Once all this was installed, I had no sound of any sort; from speakers, in flash, through earphones. Sadness.

I began working through the sound troubleshooting guide, but none of it worked, and didn’t seem to apply anyway. When I asked in #kubuntu-devel about the mumble install, Scott Kitterman asked the right questions, and told me that his list of dependencies was small, as was the list of recommended packages, and how to find the complete list:

$ cd /var/log/apt/
$ ls
$ cat history.log

This gets you a wonderfully detailed list of all packages dealt with by apt. I started by removing the obviously un-needed packages, including mumble itself. The list was so huge that I didn’t get far, however, ScottK had suggested removing slpd and roaraudio. After reading the man page for apt, I got a bit more clever about getting more stuff in one fell swoop:

sudo apt-get purge gnome-mahjong*

for instance, gets the libs and -dbg packages too. Once I went back and purged roar* — I got the offending libs, and had sound again!
By coincidence (I think) I had a problem in flash in Firefox at the same time. So Youtube videos were silent and about 100 times too fast. Once sound came back, I noticed that I had sound in Youtube in Chromium, and everything was the correct speed as well. Flash still seems broken in FF, but that now seems unrelated.
By the way, when I re-installed mumble using Muon, everything worked well. Although I haven’t tested it yet, I expect it to work as advertised.

Report: Ferrari and Apple deepening ties, FF gains Siri integration and standard iPad Minis

By Jeffrey N. Ross

Filed under:

The exciting new LaFerrari wasn’t all that Ferrari had to announce today at the Geneva Motor Show. Ferrari chairman Luca Di Montezemolo added that the Italian automaker is looking to expand its relationship with Apple in the realm of in-car entertainment, which follows Apple executive Eddy Cue joining the Ferrari board of directors back in November.

According to Bloomberg, Di Montezemolo stated that the Ferrari FF would now come with iPad Minis as a part of the rear-seat entertainment system and Siri integration will be used with the infotainment system. Beyond the FF, though, it isn’t clear what type of partnership will blossom between the two most powerful brands on the planet.

Ferrari FF Gets Apple’d: Siri Integration and iPad Minis Now Included [2013 Geneva Auto Show]

By Andrew Wendler

While the 900-pound news gorilla on the Ferrari stand in Geneva is the freshly unveiled 900-plus-hp hybrid LaFerrari, the Scuderia’s FF grand tourer, which debuted in the Swiss city in 2011, is getting a few new features.

Referred to variously as a shooting brake, an estate car, a two-door wagon, a tourer, and occasionally the less-than-flattering “hatchback,” the all-wheel-drive FF’s infotainment functions are now easier to access thanks to the integration of Apple’s Siri-based Eyes Free voice-command system. Apple hardware makes an appearance, too, in the form of a pair of iPad Minis for rear-seat riders. Making its encore showing in Geneva is the panoramic glass roof that debuted in Paris last October. )The new goods are cool and all, but we’re still more geeked about the FF’s innovative all-wheel-drive system.)

While these aren’t major updates, every bit of attention the FF can garner helps when it’s sharing booth space with one of the most-anticipated reveals in prancing-horse history.

Video: Two weeks and 2,000 miles in Ferrari's FF with <i>Evo</i>

By Jonathon Ramsey

EVO‘s Harry Metcalfe had some questions about the day-to-day livability of the Ferrari FF. When he brought those questions up to Ferrari, they suggested he take one for a couple of weeks and try it out for, as he calls them, “mundane duties.” The image above is Metcalfe pointing to the 660-horsepower, all-wheel drive FF parked in one of his fields because, since he lives on a farm, mucking about the green is part of his daily routine. “It could use more ground clearance,” he says, “but that’s an option on this car.”

He does get it on the “tarmac” and he likes it even more there than in the mud. Except for the buttons on the steering wheel; he thinks learning to use them is like learning to play guitar. He has a lot more to say besides that, and you can watch him expound for all of 17 minutes in the video below.

I want the command to only display the ones that is related to my ssh session which are the ones in RED.

To be more specific, I am wanting to display a ps tree listing by providing the PPID.

I tried running the same command and including a -p [PPID] but that still does restrict the listing.

Also tried running the same command in Solaris and it is saying

Code:

$: ps -HAcl -F S -A f
ps: illegal option -- H
ps: illegal option -- F
usage: ps [ -aAdeflcjLPyZ ] [ -o format ] [ -t termlist ]
[ -u userlist ] [ -U userlist ] [ -G grouplist ]
[ -p proclist ] [ -g pgrplist ] [ -s sidlist ] [ -z zonelist ]
'format' is one or more of:
user ruser group rgroup uid ruid gid rgid pid ppid pgid sid taskid ctid
pri opri pcpu pmem vsz rss osz nice class time etime stime zone zoneid
f s c lwp nlwp psr tty addr wchan fname comm args projid project pset

Anyone know what’s the equivalent option to use in Solaris?

Feedback / advice is much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
