My attempts so far have failed to fix the refrigerator

By jo jo

So about 2 months ago I started seeing the typical issue where the freezer was really cold and the fridge was warm – I have an over-under whirlpool unit with the condenser in the freezer compartment above and a fan blows the air down the back into the fridge. So I found that the condenser coils where covered in a block of ice. I powered off, unplugged, hit it with blow dryers, patted dry, reassembled and back on. I also at that time cleaned all the dust bunnies off the bottom of the fridge by those coils also..it was fine for a couple more weeks and then the same thing – condenser coils covered in ice.

Without to much troubleshooting I assumed it was the defrost timer and replaced that (Whirlpool Defrost Timer 482493 AP3110896 NEW OEM). After that I started seeing issues with the fridge kicking off and not coming back on….and when it did run I was still getting ice build up which led me to believe that the Heater defroster was not coming on. Another guess and I replaced the thermostat (Defrost Thermostat 4387503 New OEM Whirlpool).

Right now I have my fridge/freezer set to the coldest setting on the dial and the fridge is only right above 40degrees. The fridge cuts off for a long period of time and the temp will reach close to 57-58.. If I turn the dial/screw on the defrost timer into defrost mode and back out the fridge does not kick back on…. Now, if my wife punches the dial (because that’s how she handed broken things) it does kick on and start cooling for a while… does this mean the thermostat/dial ?

Snowden to stay in Moscow airport for now: lawyer

US intelligence leaker Edward Snowden will stay in the transit zone of the Moscow airport where he has been holed up for three weeks while Russian authorities process his asylum request, a lawyer helping him said Tuesday.

Anatoly Kucherena, a Russian lawyer who helped Snowden file an application for asylum in Russia earlier Tuesday, told AFP the fugitive former National Security Agency (NSA) contractor was happy with his treatment at the airport.

“While all procedural questions are being decided, he will remain in the transit zone of the airport,” Kucherena told AFP in central Moscow when asked if Snowden would remain at Sheremetyevo airport until the asylum request was approved.

He confirmed that the asylum procedure could take up to three months, although a shorter period is theoretically possible.

Kucherena said he met Snowden at the airport on Tuesday to file the asylum request, with a translator the only other person present.

“He is satisfied with how he is being treated by the employees of the airport,” he added, declining to say how Snowden’s security was being ensured at the airport.

Speaking outside his office in a courtyard off a prestigious central Moscow street, Kucherena said he helped Snowden put together the asylum application after the stranded fugitive requested his assistance.

A supporter of President Vladimir Putin who supported Putin’s election campaign last year, Kucherena also has a legal practice in Moscow that takes on high-profile cases.

He also sits on the “public council” of the Federal Security Service (FSB), which was created by Putin in 2006.

According to its website, the council works to “develop a relationship” between the security service and the public. Its fifteen members have to be approved by the head of the FSB.

Kucherena was among a group of rights activists, pro-Kremlin lawmakers and lawyers who met Snowden at the airport on Friday, where the fugitive indicated that he wanted to file for asylum in Russia.

Snowden later called Kucherena “by telephone” asking for his help, the lawyer said. He said he did not know why Snowden singled him out.

“I didn’t look for him,” he said. “Do you have a way of talking with him? I didn’t either.

“He reached out to me and asked me to come” after the meeting on Friday, said Kucherena, adding that he had a long meeting with Snowden Monday, when he explained Russian laws.

He then came back to the airport on Tuesday to “put together” the application for the migration service.

The two met in the transit zone, Kucherena said, but said he could not remember which terminal of the airport. At these meetings he said he had not seen Sarah Harrison, the British citizen and WikiLeaks employee who has accompanied Snowden.

“Most likely she has documents,” he said, when asked whether Harrison has a Russian visa. “I had no contact with her.”

Kucherena said Snowden, who has been marooned in the transit zone since arriving from Hong Kong seeking to escape US justice, has “options”.

“Right now he wants to stay in Russia. He has options. He has friends and a lot of supporters…. …read more

MISTER, Gay Dating App, Re-Launches, Offers New ‘Mr. Right’ Feature

By The Huffington Post News Editors

Gay men have become well versed in the world of online hook ups thanks to an array of social apps designed to foster relationships — even if only sexual. But due to the difficulty of finding compatible partners — or encountering plain old cattiness — on the web, face to face (or body to body) interactions in the real world may not be as common as you would think.

Now MISTER, one of the leading online gay apps, is looking to change that with a relaunch that includes some new and improved updates.

One new feature, “Mr. Right,” promises, as MISTER founder and CEO Carl Sander explained in an email to The Huffington Post, to help men stop staring at their screens and start staring into someone’s eyes:

Akademy 2013

After trying to connect to Mohammed Nafees, our GCi student winner from India, I finally was able to talk with him this afternoon. I was asking about his experience with KDE, and if he had gotten the help and support he needed. The enthusiasm of his reply was a bit surprising. He said he had chosen KDE because it is more than a community. When he couldn’t think of the word he wanted to use to finish his sentence, I said that to me, KDE is family. He said, “YES! KDE is family.”

Hours later, I’m still smiling about that. What a wonderful way to end the official Akademy program.

Right now, I’m typing this on my little netbook, surrounded by enthusiastic hackers. Even after working all day, most are hacking still at midnight! With occasional breaks for table tennis and pool, of course. The power cords snaking over the floor are hilarious!

Some of us paid our own way to this wonderful conference, but many of us are sponsored in whole or in part by the KDE e.V. Such generosity is what family is all about. However, as my mother used to say, money doesn’t grow on trees! If you have not yet “Joined the Game”, please think about signing up. Our e.V. needs a reliable funding stream to continue to support those who create the wonderful KDE ecosystem. http://jointhegame.kde.org/

The Credit Crisis May Not Be China's Biggest Problem

By James Gruber, Contributor The best investment ideas rarely come from the latest news item or brokerage research report. They’re often found on the fringes of finance or outside the field altogether. Right now, everyone is focused on China’s poor economic data and the potential for a hard landing in future. This is fair enough given the possible fallout. But despite what some think, China’s credit crisis will end at some point. And perhaps it will be sooner than most believe if the new leaders are serious about tightening policy rather than reflating the credit bubble. Asia Confidential is going to explore an issue which has the potential to have a larger impact on China’s future than the current credit crunch. Few in the investment industry and even fewer in China itself are aware of it. But it is well-known in the world of technology. That is, the internet is currently transforming the manufacturing industry in a similar way to what it did to the publishing world before. Anyone with internet access and desktop fabrication tools can become a manufacturer nowadays. That’s lowered the barriers to entry and resulted a deluge of smaller entrepreneurs becoming manufacturers. Previously, you’d have needed millions of dollars or a much larger company to manufacture your ideas. Today, it can all be done with a few clicks of a mouse. This transformation may have far-reaching consequences. Large manufacturers are on notice given the number of small entrepreneurs entering the space. As are mass production companies which deal with large orders. That’s where China comes in, being the world’s largest mass manufacturer. For start-up manufacturers won’t want the expense of large orders or the transportation costs associated with small orders from China. They’re likely to look for more nimble suppliers who are closer to home. That means China’s manufacturing dominance could be under serious threat, and soon. And manufacturers in the developing world may be the ones to benefit. The potential impact from this change on China will be the focus of this week’s newsletter and we’ll follow up with the broader economic and investment implications in our next issue. The internet enters the real world There are two powerful, yet opposing forces which are likely to drive the global economy going forward. The first is significant over-indebtedness in the developed world continuing to weigh on economic growth, despite what the Paul Krugmans of the world would have you believe. The second is extraordinary technological change which has the potential to propel future economic growth. Which of these forces will have the greater impact in the long-term? It’s unsurprising that Chris Anderson, a former editor of technology magazine Wired, thinks that changes in the tech world will be key driver of future economic growth. In his book, Makers: The New Industrial Revolution, Anderson makes a strong case that the digital revolution is about to move beyond our laptop screens into the real world of physical goods, with dramatic consequences: “The past ten years have been about discovering new ways to create, invent, and work together on the Web. The next ten years will be about applying those lessons to the real world.” What exactly does he mean by this? Well, manufacturing has gone digital. Physical objects …read more

We the People

This is a troubled time in American history.

The recent election revealed the changing face and values of the electorate, as well as stark and deep divisions among the people. Citizens everywhere are considering vital questions:

  • Should we reform/abolish the current party system? Is a new political party a viable option? We the People
  • Does the Electoral College still work for America today?
  • Would non-partisan re-districting help create better balance at election time?
  • How should we adjust our policies with regard to immigration and our borders?
  • How can we become fiscally sound and remain within budgetary restraints?
  • As America re-examines the 2nd Amendment, how can we best preserve our gun/militia rights as written and intended by our Founding Fathers? Are we capable of keeping passion and anger from deciding this issue?
  • Should America adopt term limits?
  • Are the words in our founding documents still alive and inspirational? Should we be guided by them still today, or have they become irrelevant?

Many people today fear that our rights are being eroded, and some even say our country is “broken”. Perhaps we, as caretakers of this nation, can heal the break by finding common ground amongst ourselves.

This website has one purpose: to gather the opinions and suggestions of caring citizens, and then present them to our elected officials. Write as much or as little as you wish. Come back whenever you want to contribute. Above all, speak freely, whether you are….

The Economy Has Nothing To Do With The Stock Markets, Right?

By Jerry Bowyer, Contributor

One of the first financial guys I ever met told me confidently “the economy and the markets have nothing to do with one another.” Recently I was interviewing potential new writers for a financial newsletter which I’ve been asked to help launch, and one of them (a professor of economics) told me that “the financial markets and the economy are two different beasts entirely.” Where do people get such ideas?

Trailer Lights Not working right.

By WML13

I have a 2012 Dodge Ram Pickup with a trailer package. I was using the trailer last fall and the lights were working fine when I put it away. Over the winter, I got hit in the rear bumper and the bumper was was replaced. I did a test today to check the trailer and I had a problem. Activate the right side turn signal and everything works fine. Activate the left turn signal and the all the marker lights, all the tailights and even the license plate lights flash right along with it. I got under the truck and looked at the wires going to the trailer plug and everything looked ok visually. I checked the trialer ground wire and it has good contact from the the trailer frame to the plug. I have not checked fuses in the truck yet to see if anything is blown. I did have one trailer bulb that was burned out. ( Right rear of the trailer.)

Marathon Massacre

By Allan Erickson

American Flags SC Marathon Massacre

People sure do say a lot of crazy things in the wake of a ‘human-caused disaster.’  Others try to understand, looking for truth; or they fear the PC police and stand silently.  Others bind wounds and comfort the victims.  Many more reach out in unity, attempting to stabilize and heal. And some always believe there is a global conspiracy at work using staged atrocities to demonize, then control.

On the day of the attack, the President implies that tax protesters could be responsible; then the next day, he calls it a terror attack.   Others note it was Patriot Day in Boston, leading some to conclude that anti-government forces were at work, an unlikely scenario given the track record.

At the moment, not much is known publicly about what happened precisely: why this attack, who was involved, how did they avoid security, who were they after, what is the message, etc.  It is odd no one has yet claimed responsibility.  Usually, Al Qaeda is glad to chest-thump.

All we really know is that four are dead, including a sweet-faced eight-year-old named Martin Richard.  Upwards of 30 lost limbs, with 170 injured overall.  Speculation abounds: What about the guy on the roof? What about the fire at the library? How do you explain the guys in tan pants and black jackets communicating with each other and watching?  What about various men with backpacks who look as if they are carrying large, heavy objects?

One prominent broadcaster blames the government, calling this attack a false flag operation.  This conclusion was issued one hour after the event.  An actor says that the bombing results from the gun culture in America.  The only rational explanation: he must be on drugs.  The head of DHS says the attack is not part of a broader conspiracy.  Really?  How on earth can she determine that so quickly and with certainty?  This from the woman who thinks Americans are the problem: a chief of insecurity at best.

A Leftist writer says he hopes white terrorists are to blame because that will put an end to our extraordinary military spending and the drumbeat to preemptively strike.  Geez.  Other Leftists immediately blame the Right, without a shred of evidence of course.

On the other side, people on the Right immediately blame Jihadists, some inferring that Leftists are at least complicit.

Given the use of pressure cookers filled with ball bearings and sharp metal objects detonated at precise times, the attack is likely the work of Al Qaeda or a related group, since these are known methods used by such groups.  Walid Shoebat, respected terrorism expert and reliable source concerning authoritative Islam, points the finger at Saudi Arabia activating sleepers domestically, coordinating with Al Qaeda.

Congressman Peter King of New York suggests this may be the beginning of an entirely new front in the war on terror; and former CIA Director Michael Hayden, Lt. Col. Oliver North, and others agree.  Still, the commander in chief does not recognize a war on terror on any front, begging the questions: how

If the FAA Thought Flying with Lap Kids Was Unsafe, It Would Require Kid Seats, Right? Wrong.

By John Goglia, Contributor

You would think that the FAA, the agency charged with protecting the safety of the flying public, would take special care to ensure the safety of our most vulnerable flyers, those under the age of two.  And if it knew something was unsafe, it would use its regulatory authority to make it right, right?  You might reasonably think that.  But you would be wrong.

Bill O’Reilly NOT Looking Out For You—Part II

By Ron-Reale

afghanistan map SC US military deaths in Afghanistan at 2,070

All full of his normal bombast and bluster on 4/11/13, Bill O’Reilly once again proved he hadn’t a grasp on the subject at hand: whether or not to legalize marijuana.

His plan is to put responsible adults or children who smoke into the legal system, destroying them and their families. He wants to keep feeding the corrupt legal system that thrives off of these “offenses”/freedoms (depending on your point of view).

He wants these draconian punishments because he feels that pot will destroy anyone trying it, a view responsible for turning more people into drug addicts than any drug. As soon as children realize we’ve been lying about the danger of smoking a joint, they figure we are lying about all other drugs and go on experimenting!

Never mind that numerous Presidents, Vice Presidents, Senators, and athletes at the top of their games have been pot smokers. Those people are special, and you are inferior; you need Bill O’Reilly to “look out for you” on your way to jail. We’d do much better with a truthful approach and try and convince children to avoid it until 21. Drive home the real dangers of hard drugs with the truth on our side.

He wants these punishments because he wants to keep pot from our children. He really said that! Right before he told his guest that you could find pot on any high school or college campus in the nation!

He claims that because we have alcohol problems in the nation, we should not legalize pot.

He skips over the logical conclusion from the preceding lessons with alcohol, that legalization would dry up the illegal and unethical distributors supplying our children, leaving us much more control. Or did I miss all the moonshiners selling alcohol to our kids?

He bemoans the fact that if legal, there would be signs telling everyone it is legal, and that will hurt our children. Really…can he really be so obtuse?

First of all, none of our public school graduates can read, so that’s not a problem (OK, just kidding, someone may read it to them.) Let me try something else:

Hey Bill, let me cue you in on a little secret you seem to know, but just won’t admit:

Society has already decided that pot laws are an open joke. Look at the movies and TV. It isn’t glorified, but it is certainly accepted and condoned.

Pot isn’t really illegal’ it is just darn inconvenient to get if you don’t know anyone in high school or college! Anyone who wants pot can get it; there is no crowd of people waiting to try it when legal. Nothing in this society will change (except some lawyers will have to get an honest job as opposed to shaking down families because little Johnny got caught with a doobie), and taxpayers will stop picking up the tab for prosecuting free Americans in their harmless pursuit of  Life, Liberty, and Happiness.

Recreational pot smoking should be a personal or family matter and not the business of the police or courts.

PCs aren't dead, they're microwaves

Last week’s news wasn’t generous to PCs. In fact, half the Internet was ready to eulogize our beloved black boxes after market research showed that computer shipments fell by double-digit percentages in the first quarter. Stick a fork in ’em, the common wisdom declared. PCs are done.

But nothing could be further from the truth. PCs aren’t dead—they’re microwaves. But not for much longer.

Hear me out.

From marvelous to meh

Right up until the early ’90s, computers were a luxury, an oddity even. If your childhood chum had a 386, you were at his house every day, churning out ASCII art on a dot-matrix printer and playing asynchronous PBEM games or MUDs. Good times! Today, however, everyone in every neighborhood has a PC, just as everyone in every neighborhood has a stove, a refrigerator, and a microwave.

Republican Elephant 2 SC GOP lawmakers blast Labor secretary nominee

ALBANY, N.Y. — Key measures of New York’s tough new gun law have kicked in, meaning owners of firearms now reclassified as assault weapons are required to register the guns. There are also new limits on the number of bullets allowed in magazines.

The new provisions took effect Monday. New York’s affiliate of the National Rifle Association says it expects to ask a federal judge late in the afternoon to immediately halt the magazine limit.

Here We Go Again? Mandatory Biotech Food Labeling Initiative Moves Forward in Washington (State)

By Glenn G. Lammi, Contributor

Not even a year after fighting a bruising and costly battle over the “California Right to Know Genetically Engineered Food Act” (Proposition 37), proponents and opponents of mandatory biotech food labeling are poised for a rematch in the state of Washington. In February, the Secretary of State’s office certified ballot initiative I-522, The People’s Right to Know Genetically Engineered Food Act, and forwarded it to the legislature.
