Jim Carrey Is Ricky Stanicky

Jim Carrey may be playing a superhero in this summer’s Kick-Ass 2, but he’ll also be doing some saving in a new film called Ricky Stanicky.

The ensemble comedy from Summit Entertainment revolves around three teens who create a fake person named Ricky Stanicky to take the fall for burning down a house. But after 20 years of continuing to use him as an alibi for all manner of problems, their significant others want to finally meet this him, so they hire an out-of-work actor to play the part.

James Franco was originally cast as Ricky in 2010, and Joaquin Phoenix briefly took his place, but now it is Carrey locked in for the role. His Bruce Almighty and Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls collaborator Steve Oedekerk is set to direct.

‘Pineapple Express 2′ Trailer Is J/K April Fools’ Day, ‘This Is The End’ Viral Marketing Instead (VIDEO)

By The Huffington Post News Editors

To celebrate April Fools’ Day and simultaneously viral market the new film “This Is The End,” Seth Rogen, James Franco and Danny McBride have put together a trailer for “Pineapple Express 2.” This time, they must assassinate Woody Harrelson (played by Jonah Hill, because obviously). Thug life, indeed.

“This Is The End” is Rogen’s apocalypse comedy where the actor cast his famous friends as variations on themselves (Franco, Hill and McBride are joined by Craig Robinson, Jay Baruchel and a cast of dozens). The comedy was co-written by Rogen and Evan Goldberg (“Superbad”) and co-directed by the pair as well.

“We thought it’d be funny to see really famous people die in super graphic ways,” Rogen said at WonderCon this weekend (via EW.com). “People were into it. At first we thought they’d be insulted or something like that — and some of them were — but most of them weren’t. They were into it.”

‘The Call’: Halle Berry’s Latest Film Debuts At Number Two

By The Huffington Post News Editors

By Lisa Richwine and Chris Michaud
March 17 (Reuters) – Walt Disney Co’s “Oz the Great and Powerful” worked more box office magic in its second weekend, following up its strong debut a week earlier with $42.2 million in U.S. and Canadian ticket sales.
The “Wizard of Oz” prequel starring James Franco topped a stronger-than-expected performance from “The Call,” a new thriller about a 911 operator played by Halle Berry who tries to save a kidnapped teenager. “The Call” earned $17.1 million from Friday through Sunday, according to studio estimates.
“The Incredible Burt Wonderstone,” a new comedy featuring Steve Carrell and Jim Carrey as dueling Las Vegas magicians, finished the weekend in third place. It conjured up $10.3 million at North American (U.S. and Canadian) theaters – several million less than expected.
Domestic ticket sales for the big-budget, effects-filled “Oz” dropped 47 percent from its opening weekend, according to the box office division of Hollywood.com. Movies typically see a 40 percent to 60 percent decline in their second weekend of release.
“Oz” added $46.6 million over the weekend from international markets. Its global total after 10 days reached $282 million, a strong start for a movie that cost $200 million to make plus up to $100 million more to market.
“The Call” handily beat pre-weekend forecasts of a debut of around $10 million. The $15 million production overperformed on strong word-of-mouth, showing itself to be “a real crowd-pleaser,” said Rory Bruer, president of worldwide distribution for Sony Corp’s Sony Pictures studio, which acquired the film from Troika Pictures.
“People like this film a lot, and it’s going to be a big success for us,” Bruer said, adding that “the film could end up doing anywhere from $40 million to $50 million, which would be huge.”
Burt Wonderstone,” meanwhile, fell short of some pre-weekend forecasts, which had pegged the debut at $12 million to $15 million. The film had a modest budget of about $30 million, according to Warner Bros. …read more

By The Huffington Post News Editors

Actor Zach Braff had some kind words for Detroit during a Thursday AMA with fans on Reddit. But he also had criticism for Michigan’s film industry in his “Ask Me Anything” discussion.

The actor, best known for his roles in “Garden State” and “Scrubs,” got a chance to check out the Detroit area while filming “Oz,” which was released Friday. Directed by Michigan native Sam Raimi, it functions as a prequel of sorts to “The Wizard of Oz” and stars James Franco, Mila Kunis, Michelle Williams and Rachel Weisz. In the film, Braff plays a flying monkey.

Here’s what Braff had to say about Detroit during his AMA:

James Franco: NYU Professor Can’t Sue Me For Saying He Sucks

By The Huffington Post News Editors

James Franco refuses to back down from the ex-NYU professor who sued the actor for calling him a “bad teacher” — insisting the guy not only sucks at teaching, but he also screwed up his own lawsuit.

Franco has just filed a response to Jose Angel Santana‘s request for a default judgement in his favor in his defamation lawsuit against Franco. Santana feels he’s entitled to the judgement because Franco never responded to the initial 2011 lawsuit.

Motorsports: Race Recap: 2013 Daytona 500 runs 200 laps, six of them count [spoilers]

By Jonathon Ramsey

2013 Daytona 500 start

Filed under:

It’s been a huge month, leading up to the Super Bowl of NASCAR, the Daytona 500. This is the first year of the new Car of Tomorrow, the “Gen Six” car, and all of the drivers have been trying to figure out its intricacies. The Ford Fusion and Chevrolet NASCAR SS has joined the field and its street-legal equivalent, the SS, was introduced. A huge wreck in the Nationwide Series race the day before the Daytona 500 tore a car in half, tore a hole in the fence, sent car parts flying into the crowd and injured some 33 spectators.

And then, of course, making just her 11th Sprint Cup Series start, there was Danica Patrick on pole position. She’d lead the way for the 43 cars on the grid to start the 200 laps of the 2.5-mile oval called the Daytona International Speedway, with its five-story-high turns banked at 31 degrees and the 3,000-foot front stretch banked at 18 degrees.

Perhaps all that excitement is why James Franco, the honorary race starter there to promote Disney’s new film, Oz the Great and Powerful, yelled “Drivers, and Danica, start your engines!” to begin the 65th NASCAR Sprint Cup Series championship…

Anne Hathaway Oscar Dress 2013: See Her Red Carpet Look! (PHOTOS)

By The Huffington Post News Editors

Who can forget Anne Hathaway‘s last sartorial turn at the Oscars? In 2011, the actress co-hosted the show with James Franco and managed to rock a whopping eight dresses, including a Givenchy princess gown, a Lanvin tux and an eye-catching Giorgio Armani Privé number. This year, rather than hosting, Anne’s up for best supporting actress for her role in “Les Miserables.”

Besides being a triple threat (singer, actress and dancer), the 30-year-old has proven herself to be quite the style star (wardrobe malfunctions notwithstading). Fortunately, Annie brought out the big guns for the 2013 Oscars red carpet and looked absolutely amazing.

See Anne Hathaway‘s Prada gown and tell us what you think!

Academy Awards 2013: The Queerest Oscar Moments Of All Time

By The Huffington Post News Editors

From “Best Supporting Actress” to “Best Adapted Screenplay,” some of Hollywood’s A-listers and even the most obscure films will be recognized this evening.

Of course, the Academy Awards are well-known in some circles by the unofficial nickname “the gay Super Bowl,” and for good reason. The Oscars’ appeal for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) viewers is certainly significant — and we’re not just talking glittery fashions.

In honor of the 85th Academy Awards, HuffPost Gay Voices decided to take a look at the queerest Oscar moments, rounding up clips from Ellen DeGeneres, Dustin Lance Black, Marlon Brando, James Franco and more.

Franco Not Impressed With Spidey Reboot

Well, one of the stars of those previous Spidey films, James Franco, shares those less than enthusiastic feelings. Here’s what he had to say to MTV about the reboot and the re-casting of his character, Harry Osborn, for its upcoming sequel:

James Franco‘s queue of projects continues to pile up with a planned adaptation of James Ellroy’s American Tabloid.

MTV reports that Franco plans to direct and star in the film based on the period novel. However, this one sounds like it’s pretty far off for now. Said Franco of the project, “It’s not all put together yet. It’s still early.”

The story follows law enforcement officers Pete Bondurant, Kemper Boyd and Ward Littell from 1958 through 1963, as they’re drawn into the mysterious assassination of U.S. president John F. Kennedy.

In addition to American Tabloid, Franco’s slate of upcoming films includes Oz: The Great and Powerful, Lovelace, Spring Breakers and the ensemble apocalypse comedy This is the End.
