A small-town police chief who appears in online videos using profanity and shooting automatic weapons has been suspended for 30 days without pay.
The borough council of Gilberton voted 5-1 at a meeting Wednesday night to suspend Chief Mark Kessler, saying he misused borough property. It said he used the weapons without permission.
Kessler has said he made the videos to draw attention to the erosion of the constitutional rights of free speech and to bear arms and he increasingly fears a government out of control.
He said after the meeting that he wouldn’t apologize for making the videos and didn’t regret having done so. He said he looked forward to getting back to work after the suspension.
Gun rights activists descended on the community of about 800 people, in Schuylkill County in eastern Pennsylvania’s anthracite coal country, to show support for Kessler, some carrying flags and displaying weapons.
In one video, Kessler criticizes U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry’s support of a United Nations treaty aimed at controlling the international arms trade, which some gun rights advocates fear could lead to restrictions on domestic weapons. Kessler then fires a weapon and screams, “Come and get it!”
Gilberton Mayor Mary Lou Hannon has said she found the language in the videos offensive and she understood that others did as well.
“I think it’s blackened our eye a little, but we are a strong community,” Hannon said after the meeting. “We will go on from here.”
Officials have said that Kessler bought the weapons with his own money and donated them to the police department, an action approved by the council. Kessler told PennLive.com on Wednesday that he also donated the ammunition used in the videos.

Germany will open its last big war cemetery in Russia on Saturday, marking the culmination of a huge effort to recover Wehrmacht soldiers killed on its Eastern Front in World War II.
By the end of this year, the German war graves commission will have found and reburied a total of 800,000 soldiers in Eastern Europe and Russia since 1992, when the former Eastern bloc countries began helping Germany retrieve the remains of missing soldiers following the end of the Cold War.
On Saturday, German Defense Minister Thomas de Maizière will hold a speech at the inauguration of the new war cemetery at the town of Dukhovschina, near the city of Smolensk in western Russia…..

“With an endless parade of distractions, political posturing, and phony scandals, Washington has taken its eye off the ball,” Barack Obama said in a speech at Knox College in Galesburg, Ill. on July 24, 2013.
“If four Americans get killed, it’s not OPTIMAL.”–Obama’s calloused, abnormally detached, and incredibly narcissistic response to Comedy Central’s John Stewart’s question about the changing story of the Benghazi attack.
Does Obama think that the Muslim terrorist attack on our consulate in Libya on 9/11/2012 didn’t really happen and that four Americans (Ambassador Chris Stevens, Glenn Doherty, Sean Smith, and Ty Woods) weren’t actually murdered?
The Obama Laundry List of Phony Scandals
1. IRS targets Obama’s enemies: The IRS targeted conservative and pro-Israel groups prior to the 2012 election. Questions are being raised about why this occurred, who ordered it, whether there was any White House involvement, and whether there was an initial effort to hide who knew about the targeting and when.
2. Benghazi: This is actually three treasonous scandals into one:
a) The failure of the administration to protect the Benghazi mission.
b) The Obama administration changed the talking points in order to suggest the attack was motivated by an anti-Muslim video.
c) The intense stonewalling, complete shutdown, and absolute refusal of the White House to say what President Obama did the night of the attack.
d) Breaking 200 plus years of honorable American military tradition to never leave any solider behind.
3. Spying on the the AP: The Justice Department stole a plethora of Associated Press reporters’ phone records as part of a leak investigation.
4. James Rosengate: The Justice Department suggested that Fox News reporter James Rosen is a criminal for reporting about classified information and subsequently monitored his phones and emails.
5. The Holder perjury I: Attorney General Eric Holder told Congress that he had never been associated with “potential prosecution” of a journalist for perjury when, in fact, he personally signed the affidavit that alleged Fox News reporter James Rosen was a potential criminal.
6. The ATF “Fast and Furious” debacle: Allowed weapons from the U.S. to “walk” across the border into the hands of Mexican drug dealers. The ATF lost track of hundreds of firearms, many of which were used in crimes (including the December 2010 killing of Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry.)
7. Holder Perjury II: During congressional hearings held on May 3, 2011, Congressman Darrell Issa asked AG Eric Holder when he first knew about the “Fast and Furious” gun walking scheme. Eric Holder replied under oath: “I am not sure about the exact date but I probably heard about Fast and Furious for the first time over the last few weeks.” Holder flat out lied to Congress under oath;”Project Gun Runner” (Fast and Furious) was launched by Obama with Holder’s full knowledge on March 24, 2009. Holder is guilty of perjury and should be arrested.
8. Secretary Kathleen Sebelius runs an extortion racket: HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius solicited donations from companies HHS might regulate. The money would be used to help her sign up uninsured Americans for ObamaCare.
9. The Pigford scandal: A U.S. Agriculture Department effort that began as an …read more
By Alicia Jessop, Contributor In a speech on the state of the Southeastern Conference on the first day of SEC Media Days, SEC commissioner Mike Slive not only boasted about the conference’s continued successes, but also made remarks calling for NCAA reform. Most interesting in his call for NCAA reform, perhaps, was his comments related to the structure of the NCAA’s Division I Board of Directors. In particular, Slive asked, “. . . What changes need to be made to the NCAA structure to provide significant roles for the stakeholders, the presidents, chancellors, athletic directors, institutional administrators, conference administrators and coaches? What is the proper role, function and composition and size of the NCAA Board of Directors?” …read more

In the fifth year of the Obama presidency, America’s middle class continues to suffer while the rich are gaining, President Barack Obama noted in a much ballyhooed speech last week before his vacation at Martha’s Vineyard, one of the hottest destinations for America’s elite. Republicans and conservatives complain the middle class is suffering because of Obama policies. Obama counters that if Republicans would just agree to implement more of his policies they could end the suffering. …read more

By Tim Worstall, Contributor President Obama is giving a speech today in which he’ll propose a grand bargain to get America working again. Sounds like a good idea so what’s the meat of it? Amazingly, it seems that the President is going to propose lowering business taxation while at the same time raising the amount of revenue coming from business taxation. Now if this was with reference to the Laffer Curve or one of the other theories about the undesirability of corporate and capital taxation in general (such as those of the Nobel Laureate Sir John Mirrlees) then it might not only be a plan but a good one. Unfortunately that doesn’t seem to be what is on offer. Obama long has called for a cut in corporate tax rates, but previously insisted such business tax reform be coupled with an individual tax overhaul. He’s dropping that demand and says instead that he’s open to the corporate tax cut that that businesses crave. OK, cutting the corporate tax rate, that’s a good idea. The statutory rate in the US is well above world and OECD average and can, depending upon how you want to look at it, be described as the world’s highest. But he wants it to be coupled with a significant investment on some sort of job creation program, such as manufacturing, infrastructure or community colleges. That will of course require some new amount of revenue. And even those various theories that say that a low or lower corporate tax rate will indeed grow the economy faster, thus in time producing higher tax revenue, those theories do say that this will take some time. So, in the short term, where are those extra revenues going to come from? The officials said money to pay for the jobs creation would come from a one-time revenue boost from measures such as changing depreciation rules or having a one-time fee on earnings held overseas. Either or both of those mean business paying more in tax than they do currently. And the extra “one-time boost” to revenues will necessarily be the extra amount that businesses will be paying in the future under this new proposal. …read more

Automotive News is reporting a serious backlash from car dealers regarding the North American Dealers Association’s choice of keynote speaker for the annual industry confab in January: former first lady and secretary of state, Hillary Clinton.
AN spoke to one dealer that not only cancelled his trip to the NADA conference, but revoked his dealership’s membership outright over the association with Clinton. In defense of its choice, NADA Chairman David Westcott argued that the dealer advocate wanted “somebody well-known, with a name – a draw.”
Still, NADA members aren’t pleased with the choice, with dealers delivering a barrage of angry messages since Clinton’s selection, according to Automotive News. Some of the angry messages relate to the former secretary of state’s politics, no doubt, but some might just be upset about the expense of such a big-name speaker – AN cited media reports that Clinton commands about $200,000 per speech.
NADA isn’t backing down, though, with its president, Peter Welch, delivering a level-headed response to AN’s inquiry about the choice: “Our job is to provide our members with exposure to all facets of business and government that can affect their dealerships. Like her or not, Senator Clinton is perhaps the most prominent woman of modern times.”
