Conservatives: “F- The Police!”

Hear the phrase, “F- The Police!” and one immediately thinks of the 1988 song by rap group NWA.

This sentiment may not be confined to the inner city alone.

Some White conservatives, far removed from the Hood, are no less trusting of law enforcement. The mid-20th Century inflamed today’s current mistrust.

The 1992 federal siege on Ruby Ridge and the 1993 televised armored assault on David Koresh compound fanned this sentiment among the Right in that time period.

Even the chairman of the National Rifle Association in 1995 famously called government agents, “jack booted thugs”!

From Clinton to Obama, there’s been a steady increase in heavy handed policing tactics which have strained relations with conservatives, usually law enforcement’s strongest supporters.

The recent fire storm caused by the publication of “Challengers from the Sidelines: Understanding America’s Violent Far-Right,” by West Point scholar Arie Perliger, has increased suspicion even more toward Obama-era federal policing.

Looming on the horizon is Obama’s civilian national security force, which he announced in a 2008 speech, off teleprompter no less, that:

“We cannot continue to rely on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives that we’ve set. We’ve got to have a civilian national security force that’s just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded.”

Conservatives fear this force will be used for garrison duty in a United States resembling Eastern Europe under Soviet domination.

“F- The Police!” is a cry frequently associated with more than inner city gang-bangers.

White and other conservatives have joined this unlikely chorus, as Americans with little in common unite around a shared mistrust of law enforcement.

One hopes this changes given how police and conservatives serve as defenders of tradition, but as government grows bigger, this likelihood in some minds grows smaller.

Mercedes-Benz AMG and Cigarette Racing Reveal G63-Inspired Speedboat

Mercedes-Benz AMG and the Cigarette Racing Team have announced a new special-edition offshore speedboat created in the likeness of Benz’s over-the-top G63 AMG. The new boat is making its debut at the big Miami international boat show this week. To state the obvious, the connection between the Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG and this Cigarette Racing Huntress speedboat the Benz SUV supposedly inspired is tenuous at best.

The only rock crawling the boat is likely to undertake involves one of its well-heeled owners dipping into the Cristal and making an unintended beach landing; the closest the G63 will get to a sea voyage is wading through a deep puddle at the local boutique parking lot. But the G63 is cool, and Cigarette boats are cool—at least to those who grew up idolizing 1980s-era Miami—so mixing the former’s mojo with the latter should be supercool, right? Right?

Regardless, this isn’t the first collaboration between Cigarette and AMG; the two brands previously cooked up an SLS-inspired speedboat, which featured neat AMG lettering and a stripey paint job. And though there are few apparent similarities between the G63 and the Huntress, they’re really not terribly different in concept. Both vehicles have a strong Not-of-This-Era vibe, gulp fuel, are sort of ridiculous, and we wouldn’t be shocked to see either being frantically piloted by someone wearing a dusting of white powder on their upper lip whist running from a gaggle of ATF agents. 

Furthermore, the Huntress measures 42 feet from bow to stern, holds 500 gallons of fuel, weighs nearly 19,000 pounds, and has a top speed of 78 mph. Those specs more or less—emphasis on the more and the less parts—mirror those of the huge-gantic-feeling G63, save for the top speed, which in the Benz is a higher but altogether more frightening 130 mph. Oh, and the Huntress is powered by five Mercury outboard motors, thoroughly spanking the single-engined (but twin-turbocharged!) G63 in the manhood-measurement department. 



But any head-to-head technical comparisons between the G-wagen and the Huntress are as pointless as pitting Free Willy against an elephant. Instead, we imagine the two vehicles are more likely to augment one another—as well as a small Cessna airplane—in a well-to-do cartel leader’s transportation trifecta. Or so we imagine through our Miami Vice–tinted BluBlockers.

Pope's bombshell sends troubled church scrambling

With a few words in Latin, Pope Benedict VXI did Monday what no pope has done in half a millennium, announcing his resignation and sending the already troubled Catholic Church scrambling to replace the leader of its 1 billion followers by Easter.

Not even his closest collaborators had advance word of the news, a bombshell that he dropped during a routine morning meeting of Vatican cardinals. And with no clear favorites to succeed him, another surprise likely awaits when the cardinals elect Benedict’s successor next month.

“Without doubt this is a historic moment,” said Cardinal Christoph Schoenborn, a protege and former theology student of Benedict’s who is considered a papal contender. “Right now, 1.2 billion Catholics the world over are holding their breath.”

The move allows for a fast-track conclave to elect a new pope, since the traditional nine days of mourning that would follow a pope’s death doesn’t have to be observed. It also gives Benedict great sway over the choice of his successor. Though he will not himself vote, he has hand-picked the bulk of the College of Cardinals — the princes of the church who will elect his successor — to guarantee his conservative legacy and ensure an orthodox future for the church.

The resignation may mean that age will become less of a factor when electing a new pope, since candidates may no longer feel compelled to stay for life.

“For the century to come I think that none of Benedict’s successors will feel morally obliged to remain until their death,” said Paris Cardinal Andre Vingt-Trois.

Benedict had said as recently as 2010 that a pontiff should resign if he got too old or infirm to do the job, but it was a tremendous surprise when he said in Latin that his “strength of mind and body” had diminished and that he couldn’t carry on. He said he would resign effective 8 p.m. local time on Feb. 28.

“All the cardinals remained shocked and were looking at each other,” said Monsignor Oscar Sanchez of Mexico, who was in the room at the time of the announcement.

Video: Obama Murdered 16-year-old U.S. Citizen

On February 4, a secret White House memo was leaked, entitled “Lawfulness of a Lethal Operation Directed Against a U.S. Citizen who is a Senior Operational Leader of Al Qa’ida or An Associated Force.” The memo in effect states that the President has the authority to kill any American citizen at anytime for any reason without proof, without due process, and with absolutely no oversight.

No one blinked an eye when American-born al-Qaeda-linked terrorist Anwar al-Awlaki was vaporized with a drone strike in September of 2011. But when his sixteen-year-old son, Abdulrahman, an American citizen born in Denver, Colorado, was vaporized in the same manner two weeks later without any proof that he had any connection to al-Qaeda, both the Left and Right cried foul.

Abdulrahman, along with several other teenagers, was engaged in the “terrorist” act of taking part in an outdoor barbecue.

According to the Abdulrahman’s grandfather:

To kill a teenager is just unbelievable, really, and they claim that he is an al-Qaeda militant. It’s nonsense,” said Nasser al-Awlaki, a former Yemeni agriculture minister who was Anwar al-Awlaki’s father and the boy’s grandfather.

In fact, if we look at the key passage in Obama’s secret kill list memo, its legal justification does not simply require connection to al-Qaeda, but that he be deemed an “operational leader”:

The condition that an operational leader present an ‘imminent’ threat of violent attack against the United States does not require the United States to have clear evidence that a specific attack on U.S. persons and interests will take place in the immediate future.

But whether Abdulrahman was a leader of al-Qaeda or not is really not the point. The point of the secret memo that has everyone up in arms is that Obama not only does not have to grant American citizens abroad due process, but that there is no oversight to the kill list; that Obama does not have to prove to any entity, including his own Administration, that the person killed presents a threat to the United States.

Of course, the next question becomes: If Obama can suspend due process and murder American citizens abroad, does he then have the authority to do the same thing on American soil?

This was the question asked and ignored on the day after the secret memo was released, whereby Obama abruptly left the press conference, leaving White House spokesman Jay Carney flapping in the wind.  Carney called Obama’s unchecked power of “surgical drone strikes” “legal, ethical, and wise,” which sounded very pithy, but never answered the question.

Of course, we already know the answer to this question, as Obama’s legal justification as stated in the memo does not distinguish whether the American citizen is living in the United States or abroad.

The Left, as we have seen in the last few days, are coming to realize what conservatives have known for some time: We have a dictator in the Oval Office.

Thoughts on the UK Productivity Puzzle

By Karl Smith, Contributor Izabella Kaminska points to an argument that it is all about valuing capital formation: Current estimates of UK GDP are too low because the methodology undervalues private sector investments in a mature economy: Current GDP estimation methods were designed to value underdeveloped economies in which investment in tangible fixed assets is a good indicator of financial value; The private sector in mature economies like that of the UK is instead increasingly investing in other assets which are not valued by current GDP estimates; It will not be possible to improve GDP calculations to accurately reflect the value of the investments of a mature economy.   Ok but the US should have this same problem and yet However, looking through the IFS report – via Simon Wren-Lewis – it seems as if decomposition more or less answers the puzzle. The report does a decomposition and gets this The authors haltingly conclude that not much is gained from decompositional analysis The slowdown of productivity growth within industries since 2008 is important in explaining the aggregate productivity shortfall relative to the trend. The extent to which industries recover to their pre-recession trends in productivity growth will affect aggregate productivity growth going forward. Again, the trend is driven by within-industry effects and not changes in the composition of industries Right, but if you look at the results a two-part de-compossed narrative immediately comes out. First, the standard acceleration of de-industrialization, common to modern recessions: Construction and Manufacturing fell as fractions of the workforce leading to large negative “between” effects. Second, gains-from-trade which usually rescue advanced economies from aggregate productivity slowdowns failed to appear. Why? Because the good and services that the UK specializes in got whacked. Mining, which I assume is North Sea Oil, fell off a cliff. And, Finance through which London serves as banker to much of the world, also fell off a cliff. We would expect to see large “between” positives in those categories as workers shifted towards the industries in which the UK has a comparative advantage. Thus the pattern would be that all of productivity growth is being driven by increasing productivity in a few sectors which are themselves attracted ever more workers (because of the higher real wage.) That didn’t happen. Instead you got big negatives on the very sectors that one would expect to offset deindustrialization. So the total was a big negative fest. The US on the other hand has had an inverse story. Not only did manufacturing rebound, but natural resource extraction exploded. In addition the construction collapse came early. So looking at the chart below we can get the following pattern 2005: Ahh! Construction is going away 2007: Whew! We sold lots of Bulldozers to BRIC 2008: Ah! Detriot is gone. Ah!! Wall Street is gone.  Ah!! BRIC is gone On the bright side, we have a bunch of this Natural Gas stuff if anyone wants it. 2010: Yeah Detriot is coming back  Yeah Wall Street is coming back. 2011: We have more oil than God.

Will Housing Inventory Bottom in 2013? So Far No Signs of It

By Karl Smith, Contributor Bill McBride has been inclined to think that housing inventory will bottom, though he seems to be hedging a bit more now. Bill early last month: Right now my guess is active inventory will bottom in 2013, probably in January. At the least, the rate of year-over-year inventory decline will slow sharply.  It will be very interesting to see how much inventory comes on the market during the spring selling season! Bill today: The key will be to see how much inventory increases over the next few months. In 2010, inventory was up 8% by early March, and up 15% by the end of March. For 2011 and 2012, inventory only increased about 5% at the peak. So far in 2013, even with the slight decline last week (probably noise), inventory is already up 3.0%.  The next few months will be very interesting for inventory! I am even less certain. Changes from week one can be highly sensitive to unusual factors in week one. To get a separate look I seasonally adjusted the data by hand. I took the actual seasonal pattern from 2008 and then trended it up based on the Dec-10/Jan-11 break.  I then applied those seasonal factors to all months. I get this Highly notable is both the steady decline and the clear Seasonally Adjusted carve out from the homebuyers tax credit. It even looks like you can see some confusion in the inventory data from April-10 to Sep-10, presumably related to the extension of the credit. That’s pretty cool for a simple hand adjustment. Importantly there much sign of a slowdown in the inventory collapse, so far. There is a bit of a nick upwards at the end but in the context of the dominant trend its hard to put a lot of stock in that. As far as I am aware, once the data are seasonally adjusted there is no reason to think of Jan-Feb as being special inventory wise. Hence, we should be good chartist and project the strongest trend forward. To help gauge how well this does I did a naïve extrapolation of the seasonally adjusted series and then divided through by the seasonally factors to get estimated not seasonally adjusted data through the end of the year. Since Obama took his oath of office to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States, he has not only battered the Constitution, but assaulted America’s armed forces who love America and her laws so much that they are willing to lay down their lives to defend her freedoms.

How does Obama repay them? He cuts their funding, does nothing when hundreds of thousands of our veterans are still awaiting medical benefits, ignores the wishes of the military branches who desired to keep “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” in place, sues states such as Ohio to block military votes, complains about taking pictures with our soldiers, and calls the killing of four Americans in Libya (two of them former Navy SEALs) a “bump in the road.”

To add insult to injury, Barack Hussein Obama has now supplied the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt, which has declared war on America, with sixteen F-16s and 200 Abrams tanks.

Obama and his unlawful bureaucrats continue their bold-faced assaults, using less than 1.7 percent of the population to attack America’s blood-bought freedoms at every turn – and they are using taxpayer money to do so.

How does a country with a population of roughly 312 million correctly respond?

Love or hate him, Abraham Lincoln was spot on when he said “We the people are the rightful masters … not to overthrow the Constitution but to overthrow the men who pervert the Constitution.”

When doing high school assemblies all across the country, I will ask the students in the assembly how many know their Constitution. Many begin to laugh in sheer ignorance. I tell them that if they do not know their rights, they don’t have any rights. I then begin to show them the price paid for our freedoms by our founders and veterans who fought, bled, and died to magnify the Constitution they previously laughed at not knowing.

I then ask them how many have grandparents, uncles, aunts, cousins, brothers, and sisters who have fought or are currently fighting for our freedom. About 85 percent of them do, and it hits home with the students. The entire room is immediately captivated with a new love and respect for America and the laws of our republic.

Through the knowledge of the Bible and our Constitution, they also begin to see through the destructive, disrespectful, and illegal actions of the current administration.

Inmates on work crew save 3 boys from frigid Washington river

Rescue officials say a group of inmates on a prison work crew dove into a fast-moving, frigid Washington state river to save three young brothers who were dumped in the water after their canoe capsized.

KPTV reports the inmate crew from Larch Corrections Center was finishing their work for the day near the river when they heard the children’s screams.

“We just thought it was some kids screaming until we seen their two heads bobbing in the water with the canoe upside down,” Nelson Pettis, a member of the crew told KPTV. “They were coming down over flooded Salmon Creek. It was raging pretty fast.”

The three brothers, aged 8, 10 and 16, had lost control of their boat in the strong current. Pettis says he and another inmate Larry Bohn jumped into the river.

“I just let the current take me down until I could get to a spot where my feet hit ground and I tried to stay put. They actually came to me right there,” Pettis told KPTV. “Right then, the current swept me from underneath my feet and I grabbed onto the kids and got them to a little island in the middle of the river.”

Bohn helped the 16-year-old to shore and then helped Pettis and the two younger boys get onto a pile of floating debris in the creek until they could be rescued.Another inmate, Jon Fowler, helped the rescue crew carry the boys to shore.

“They were really scared,” Bohn told KPTV. “They kept telling us ‘thank you, thank you’ all over again.”

Clark County Fire District 6 Chief Jerry Green says the three boys and two inmates were taken to nearby hospitals with mild hypothermia.

“I think we did something that any good person would do. You see three helpless kids in a river, you help. That’s what you do,” Fowler told KPTV.

“Just cause we’re incarcerated, doesn’t mean we’re bad people, ” he later added. “We made some bad choices in our lives, but we’re still, we’re just like everybody else. We’re just paying our debt for what we did wrong.”

Prison staff tells KPTV the members of the work crew are serving sentences for non-violent crimes.

Beckham joins PSG, pledges to donate salary

In a dazzling career filled with riches and titles, David Beckham is taking his globe-trotting soccer tour to one of the most alluring destinations of all.

The 37-year-old midfielder signed a five-month contract with Paris Saint-Germain on Thursday, and has agreed to essentially play for free. He will donate his salary to a children’s charity.

“It’s one of the things we talked about from the start, but this all happened so quick,” said Beckham, who did not disclose how much he will be paid or which group will get the money. “I thought what a great idea it would be that the salary would go to a children’s charity in Paris.”

The former England captain chose the ambitious French club after rejecting offers from other teams. The move came as the transfer window was starting to close and marks the latest step in a career that has seen Beckham win titles with Manchester United, Real Madrid and the Los Angeles Galaxy.

“Every club I have played for throughout the world, I have been successful with. I have been successful with Manchester United, and I have always said that I would never want to play for another English club,” Beckham said. “It’s the team that I support, that I always dreamt of playing for.”

Beckham recently finished a six-year stint with the Galaxy in Major League Soccer. Whether he can still be a force in European soccer is uncertain, especially with so many talented players on a PSG team that has cost nearly $366 million to assemble since its Qatari owners took charge in June 2011.

“I am very lucky. I am 37 years old and I got offered a lot of offers, more offers now than I have probably had in my career, at my age,” Beckham said. “I am very honored about that. I chose Paris because I can see what the club are trying to do, the players the club are trying to bring in. It’s an exciting city, always has been, always will be.”

The immaculately dressed Beckham was a model of elegance and calm as camera crews and photographers jostled for position amid the frenzy. He joked that he feels much younger than his age.

“To be the elder statesman, I’m very proud of that,” he said. “No matter what my age is, I still feel 21 years old — most days.”

Beckham’s deal runs out in June but he intends to keep playing, although whether that will be with PSG remains to be decided. He is, however, eager to have a long-term role at the club.

“We slightly brushed over it, a long-term partnership is what we have looked for,” he said. “Short term is playing, but long term is something we are very proud to be part of this organization that will grow and become one of the biggest in Europe.”

Beckham was close to joining PSG last year, discussing a potential move with a club desperately chasing a big name to match its sudden glamour and seemingly endless funds from its Qatari backers.

But the move fell through and PSG moved on to other targets, landing striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic and AC Milan teammate Thiago Silva as well as Napoli winger Ezequiel Lavezzi and Brazilian prodigy Lucas.

“I felt last year that I still had something to achieve in Los Angeles. I won the championship in the last year of my contract,” said Beckham, adding that the time was not right. “So we parked it and decided that right now is the right time because I was at the end of my contract last year. I accepted one more year in Los Angeles, I won another championship, another trophy in Los Angeles and I believe it was the right time to leave.”

He said the agreement was finally sealed overnight. And shortly before noon Thursday, he made the short flight from London to Paris.

Right now, I have a few things to sort out with my children and the schooling and a few other things,” he said. “I have been training at Arsenal. My fitness won’t take long to get up to speed. I definitely won’t be fit for next Friday. A few weeks and I’ll be up to speed.”

Beckham said he was enticed by putting his salary to work in a novel way.

“It’s something I’m not sure has been done before, and it’s something I’m very passionate about, children and the charity side of things, and so are the club,” he said. “We came together and it’s something special.”

For the time being, Beckham will stay in a hotel, with his family staying in London.

“I think it’ll be easier for me,” he said. “Whatever’s easiest for me and the family when they come to watch me.”

On the field, other challenges await. One of them is free kicks, Beckham’s specialty. The high-scoring Ibrahimovic is around for such duties, but Beckham says he has experience in such matters.

“If I get the chance, then I’m sure we will share that thing. Whoever fancies it,” Beckham said. “I’ve done it in the past. I’ve been in teams with Roberto Carlos and Ronaldo and (Zinedine) Zidane — trying to take a free kick off Roberto Carlos is pretty difficult. I expect with Ibra, it will be exactly the same.”

Lies and half-truths is all that we seem to be getting from the government these days. The latest lie is that military-style guns have no legitimate purpose in the hands of civilians. Of course the media is in on it. The government can’t really do anything without the media. The media is the machine that carries the lies out to the uneducated masses.

There has been a lot of debate about these weapons and a lot of terms being used, inappropriately, by both sides. So I am not going to go into the detailed operation of each firearm type and the proper nomenclature, except for one. The term “assault weapon” was high jacked by the government and gun control crowd, from the term “assault rifle” which is used to describe a military firearm capable of “selective fire.”

An “assault rifle” is a firearm that could be used in two different ways. It is a combination rifle; one that is suitable for a rifleman or infantry in one mode and also suitable for storming an occupied position where rapid fire of multiple rounds is necessary to subdue the enemy.

Since these terms are very similar, the media gets it wrong most of the time and that is why the government likes it so much. Now that it is an accepted term, to describe any military-looking weapon or “scary” weapons, the gun grabbers are now saying that no one needs these weapons for self-defense, and they are not very good for self-defense, and we should ban them.

If you look at an M16 military assault rifle, there is a three-position switch on the side of the receiver. It has positions for Safe, Semi, and Auto. This is a selective fire weapon. Semi mode is for the rifleman who is picking out targets at range to efficiently fire rounds hitting targets. Auto mode is for assaulting multiple targets that are in close quarters or massed together and laying down suppressive fire. Suppressive fire is just that, keeping the enemy’s heads down by shooting at them so your men can move from one position to another without getting hit. These selective fire weapons are not available to the public without stringent and specific licenses. All civilian models do not have, nor can they be converted without extensive knowledge, to selective fire.

If you have followed the terminology so far, and understand that the combination of an assault weapon or submachine gun was a fully automatic firearm and a rifleman’s rifle was an auto-loading rifle designed for accuracy, together in one firearm coined the term “assault rifle.” The liberals highjacked the “assault weapon” term and are now using it to describe neither of these firearm types.

To further compound the lie, the government does not use any of these terms when procuring weapons for its own use. They are called Personal Defense Weapons or (PDW) which is the term describing a selective fire weapon in a government procurement request. Additionally, “DHS and its components have a requirement for a 5.56x45mm NATO, select-fire firearm suitable for personal defense use in close quarters and/or when maximum concealment is required.”

So the government on one hand is telling us that these weapons are not suitable for personal defense and on the other hand it is saying that they are. By the way they want to buy 7,000 of them for Border patrol, ICE, and FPS agents.

At least 5 people killed in shootings during bloody Chicago day

At least five people were gunned down Saturday in Chicago, including a 34-year-old man whose mother had already lost her three other children to shootings.

Ronnie Chambers, who was his mother Shirley’s youngest child, was shot in the head while sitting in a parked car on the city’s West Side. A 21-year-old man who was also in the car was wounded, police said.

Shirley Chambers, whose two other sons and daughter were shot in separate attacks more than a decade ago, was left grieving again on Saturday, WLS-TV reported.

Right now, I’m totally lost because Ronnie was my only surviving son,” Chambers said.

Shirley Chambers‘ first child, Carlos, was shot and killed by a high school classmate in 1995 after an argument. He was 18. Her daughter Latoya, then 15, and her other son Jerome were shot and killed within months of one another in 2000.

“What did I do wrong? I was there for them. We didn’t have everything we wanted but we had what we needed,” she asked Saturday.

Chambers said despite this latest tragic chapter in her life, she’s not bitter or angry.

“They took my only child. I have nobody right now. That’s my only baby,” she said.

A few hours after Ronnie Chambers was killed, a gunman opened fire on three men near a South Side eatery, killing two of them and wounding the third, police said.

On Saturday afternoon, detectives were called to the scene of another shooting in which a man in his 30s and a teenager were shot to death. There had been no arrests.

Chicago’s homicide count eclipsed 500 last year for the first time since 2008. As grim as it is, Chicago’s homicide rate was almost double in the early 1990s — averaging around 900 — before violent crime began dropping in cities across America.

Last year’s increase, though, stood in sharp contrast to New York, where homicides fell 21 percent from 2011, as of early December.

Doubts raised about fairness of Delhi rape trial

In the court of public opinion, the men being tried in the gang rape of an Indian university student should be hanged in a public square.

That demand for swift justice might make it impossible for them to get a fair trial in a court of law. Already, there are plenty of portents.

Amid the heightened emotions that have surrounded this case a local bar association has stopped its members from representing the men citing the heinous nature of the crime. The three grandstanding lawyers who have rushed in to represent the accused spent weeks taking potshots at each other instead of coordinating a defense. Two lawyers fought for days over which one was representing one of the defendants.

And the case is being heard by a brand new fast track court, set up in the wake of the rape to deal with sexual assaults in the capital, that is under pressure to reach a verdict within weeks. Finally, whatever is said or submitted in court has to stay in the room — a gag order by the judge prevents the media from reporting anything about the case.

“However wicked and depraved society may perceive a person to be, he deserves a fair trial. He deserves a good defense,” said Markandey Katju, a retired judge of India‘s Supreme Court.

“That some of those charged are the real culprits and some are innocent … that is a very real possibility,” he said, adding that in India the police “spreads its net wide.”

As details of the attack have emerged Katju said he feared the trial may be overrun by emotion rather than the calm voice of reason.

“You can’t decide cases on sentiment. That’s lynch law.”

The specifics of the gang rape are horrifying. According to the police report, the attack lasted at least 45 minutes. There were six attackers, one of whom claims to be a juvenile and is being tried separately. Each of the men raped the 23-year-old woman, with at least two taking turns driving the bus. They penetrated her with two metal rods, causing such severe internal injuries that doctors later found parts of her intestines floating freely inside her abdomen.

The battered woman and her badly beaten male friend were then thrown out of the moving bus and lay naked and bleeding on the side of a busy road on a cold December night.

The attack was so brutal that the woman died two weeks later in a Singapore hospital.

Within two days of the attack the police arrested the six accused. According to the police all six confessed their crimes. The police report said that DNA evidence from the men tied all of them in the rape and murder. According to police documents blood and saliva swabs from the accused matched the DNA found on the victim’s injuries. The victim’s blood was also found on the clothes, underwear and slippers of the accused.

The attack in the heart of New Delhi brought protesters into the streets demanding the government protect women and ensure those attacked get justice. In response, the city government set up five fast track courts to swiftly handle those cases, keeping them out of India‘s overburdened regular court system, where trials can drag on for years if not decades.

As the police framed charges against the men and prepared for trial the bar association of Saket, the district where the case is being heard, declared that their members would not represent the men. They were following a precedent set by lawyers’ groups across India over the last few years, which have banned their members from representing those accused of terrorism and other heinous crimes.

“This is completely unconstitutional and unethical,” said Katju. “Right minded lawyers should defy and ignore such rulings.”

Outside the courtroom the cries for a quick trial and execution of the five men have persisted.

“They should be handed over to the public and hanged,” said Prakash, a 51-year-old gardener who had come to court on a personal matter but waited to get a glimpse of the accused being whisked into court. She uses only one name.

The three men who rushed forth to represent the accused were not members of the local bar and have spent more time fighting each other than putting up a defense.

One insisted he would ask the Supreme Court to move the trial out of Delhi because emotions were too high to hold a fair trial here. But when a second lawyer made a similar appeal, the first changed his mind and vehemently opposed it.

One lawyer, M.L. Sharma, has accused police of planting the other two defense lawyers to ensure a guilty verdict.

“I’m the only hurdle standing in their way,” Sharma said earlier this week. Even as he made his allegations, fellow defense counsel V.K. Anand stepped up to say that Sharma’s client had decided to fire his lawyer — and hire him.

The dispute over who would represent the defendant was only resolved Thursday — the day the trial started. Sharma dropped out of the trial, saying he feared his client would be tortured to get him to change his lawyer. Anand replaced him.

Sharma has accused police of beating all five men to extract their confessions, then later amended that to say only his client was beaten. He also made unsubstantiated accusations that the victim’s male friend was somehow responsible for the deadly assault, only to backtrack later.

Another lawyer, A.P. Singh, said the only reason he agreed to represent two of the accused was because their families had begged his mother for help.

“My mother has a kind heart and an order from her is like an order from God,” he said, posing dramatically for the cameras.

Anand hasn’t spoken about his strategy, but both Sharma and Singh have claimed at least once that their clients were not even on the bus during the attack.

In the past, courts across the country have criticized the police for coercing confessions and even planting evidence to get convictions.

“We set so little store by how the police functions in this country. There’s no reason to accept the police’s version of events in this case without thorough legal scrutiny,” said Jawahar Raja, a lawyer and activist.

The defense is made even more complicated by the fact the case is being tried in a fast track court. As a result the police has put together its case at rapid speed. The trial has started even as defense lawyers are falling into place.

“Justice takes some time. It’s all very easy to talk about fast track courts,” said Katju, adding that cases should be tried quickly and efficiently but without a looming deadline.

“A judge has to read all the documents, hear the lawyers, apply his mind. It’s not a magic lamp that with a swish you can dispose of a case.”

Although it certainly wasn’t Oscar material, I still love the 1989 film “Erik the Viking,” starring, among others, Tim Robbins, Mickey Rooney, Eartha Kitt, and John Cleese. It’s a campy British comedy-fantasy about a band of misfit Vikings on a quest to reach Valhalla.

In one scene, the motley mob finds its way to the island of Hy-Brasil, a happy, peaceful, sunlit land populated by white-robed, free-loving, uber-pacifist morons.

You know, liberals.

Through a series of immaterial events, the island begins to sink into the ocean. As it does, Erik and crew evacuate and re-board the ship while Hy-Brasil’s inhabitants blithely remain, singing out of tune and playing harps, horns, and other instruments badly.

As the crest of the island dips beneath the sea, King Arnulf – a blundering buffoon played by Terry Jones of Monty Python fame – exclaims: “Everyone, stay calm. This is not happening.”

It’d be funny if it weren’t true; but America has become Hy-Brasil, Barack Obama King Arnulf, and liberals of every stripe his white-robed, mind-numbed, sycophantic subjects. Our enemies, both foreign and domestic – some of whom have “The Honorable” before their names – are laughing themselves silly.

Indeed, “progressives” are a caricature of themselves, fully given over to pseudo-utopian, relativist ideals that remain ludicrous – hopelessly unattainable – by any objective standard.

Still, our patchouli-wearing, pervert-pride-prancing, “pay-for-my-abortion”-shrieking friends are anything if not determined. They’ll let neither reality nor the U.S. Constitution stop them. Nothing, it seems – especially not those mealy-mouthed puddin’ pops running the GOP – can keep this ship of fools from sinking a once-great nation.

Problem is, they’re taking us all down with them.

How do you stop skyrocketing debt and deficits that even liberal economists admit, if left unchecked, spell America’s doom? You don’t. You print trillions more and spend it like game tokens at Chuck E. Cheese. The party must go on, or the kiddos get cranky. Sugar Daddy Barack’s got hungry mouths to feed.

How do you stop evil nutjobs pumped full of psychotropic drugs from shooting-up “gun free zones”? Why, by leaving them heavily armed, of course. By unconstitutionally grabbing guns from the very law-abiding citizens positioned to tap two in the body and one in the head whenever these death-culture byproducts start killing.

Liberal logic: “Up is down, down is up; we’ll make it so and we won’t give up!”

In sum, you spend your way out of debt, tax your way to higher employment, fornicate your way disease-free, abort your way to non-violence, and unilaterally disarm your way to national security.

Now, some of you may say “But wait, Obama knows exactly what he’s doing. He’s no buffoon.”

I both agree and disagree. Yes, the “progressive” dogma that courses through his veins – a mind-altering hallucinogen that gives liberals the munchies for power – is, indeed, inherently sinister.

Still, he believes it with every ounce of his nicotine-hardened heart.

By deliberately deconstructing America’s constitutional republic – our free-market form of government – and replacing it with a Euro-socialist, moral relativist amalgam of his liking, this misguided anti-colonialist radical thinks – truly believes – that he’s doing the right thing.

Such are the ways of the well-meaning tyrant.

People sometimes ask me how it is that I manage to stay so optimistic – to maintain deep joy as we watch our nation’s foundations crumbling around us like the walls of Jericho. They wonder how it is that I’m able to pick up and carry on with a smile as America heads careening toward cliff’s edge.

It’s easy. First, I put my full faith and trust in the Sovereign Creator of the universe who is the same yesterday, today, and forevermore: Christ, God incarnate, who is always faithful to those who have faith in Him.

Then, I laugh at them (liberals, that is.) I make fun of their dull-witted, self-defeating, abjectly wicked worldview. I follow God’s example. Of those who align themselves against His laws and His nature, Psalm 2:4 says: “He who sits in the heavens laughs. The Lord scoffs at them.”

How can you not scoff at the silly twaddle they’re hocking?

Ultimately, I’ve read the end of the book. I know what happens. The good guys win. That keeps me smiling no matter what goes down on the culture-war front. It keeps me snickering.

Still, once I stop laughing, I get about the business of trying, with every fiber of my being, to defeat them. Not reason with them, not compromise with them, not suck up to them, and certainly not trust them.

Defeat them.

Oh, I’ll love them. I must. I’m commanded to by the Lord I serve. I’ll pray for them, too. Do it all the time. But I’ll never, ever, under any circumstances, trust them.

You may be surprised to learn that, in various forms, I get dozens – sometimes hundreds – of pieces of hate mail each week. My recent favorite came from a delightful bloke with the email handle synth84@aol.com: “Someday, someone may just choose to use their second amendment right (sic) to put a bullet in your worthless head. You are a disgusting waste of life you uneducated, non-human, uncivilized, evil, parasitic Nazi maggot. Shame on you.”

Right. Shame on me.

How do you reason with, compromise with, suck up to, or trust that?

You don’t. You defeat it.

Abraham Lincoln, a man of deep faith, forecast nearly a century-and-a-half ago our current state of the union: “America will never be destroyed from the outside,” he said. “If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves.”

President Obama sits atop the highest perch of a nation fast-sinking. “Everyone, stay calm. This is not happening,” he assures us.

But it is happening. We’re destroying ourselves from within. We’re going down, and the only way to stop it is to utterly defeat those responsible.

In the meantime, they sure are fun to laugh at.

An Open Letter To Sheriff Joe Arpaio

Dear Sheriff Arpaio:
In a recent interview with Mike Broomhead on KFYI 550 AM in Phoenix, Arizona, when asked about a possible firearm confiscation law coming from the Obama Administration, you stated: “I may not enforce that federal law.”  Unfortunately, the word “may” puts us in the ambiguous realm of “you may or may not” enforce a federal firearm confiscation law.  That, coupled with your comment that you would be purchasing semi-automatic and fully automatic weapons for your department, gives one additional pause for concern as to how these weapons are going to be used.  Yes, you said they would be used against the “bad guys.” But one has to wonder: who will you consider to be the “bad guys” in an Obama federal gun confiscation scheme?
You said that you have taken an oath numerous times to support and defend the U.S. Constitution.  I believe that you have a true love for the U.S. Constitution and for the God given freedoms that it recognizes and guarantees.  I do believe that the citizens of Maricopa County deserve a more definitive answer as to where you and your office stand regarding a potential federal firearm confiscation order from the Obama Administration.  Without equivocation, will you enforce or ignore a federal firearm confiscation law by the Obama Administration?
I have included an incomplete list of county sheriffs who have, without equivocation, stated that they will abide by their oaths to uphold and defend the U.S. Constitution against enemies foreign and domestic and will support the Second Amendment of the Bill of Rights. They will not participate in any federal gun confiscation scheme.  As the Toughest Sheriff in America, I believe that your name and your office should be at the top of the list of sheriffs who will honor their oaths to defend the people’s Right to Keep and Bear Arms.
I would encourage you to clear up this ambiguity at your earliest convenience in an M.C.S.O. Press Release.  The citizens of Maricopa County have a right to know exactly where you stand on this issue.
