9/11/2012 — One Year Later, Still No Answers

By David Howe

Obama Hillary Benghazi SC 9/11/2012 One Year Later, Still No Answers

Just over one year ago, an organized mob of terrorists attacked a US diplomatic post in Benghazi, Libya; and four Americans were killed, including Ambassador Chris Stevens. The Ambassador had previously asked for increased security, and it was denied. The attack lasted for about six hours. The Ambassador and Sean Smith were killed in the “safe room” soon after the attack began; security operatives Tyrone Woods and Glen Doherty were killed on the rooftop of one of the buildings in the compound by enemy mortar fire several hours later, near the end of the attack.

Almost immediately, the Obama Administration’s official position was that the attack grew out of a demonstration against the existence of an internet-based video that appeared to demean the prophet Mohammed. The maker of the video was arrested and jailed in Los Angeles, ostensibly for a parole violation. President Obama and Secretary of State Clinton pointedly promised to bring the actual killers to justice. Some days or weeks later, the Administration announced that the video was not to blame, but that a terrorist attack was. More than thirty other American State Department employees and American operatives were present during the attack, and they escaped with injuries of varying severity. The video maker was recently released from jail.

These are almost the only aspects of the incident that everyone agrees on, even though there have been several Congressional hearings attempting to learn more about what happened; and an Accountability Review Board investigation was commissioned by the Administration to look into the matter as well.

Doesn’t the fact that all these investigations can’t fill in the rest of the picture tell us that something is very wrong?

The unanswered questions boil down to these:

Who refused to provide more security when the Ambassador insisted it was needed? Why was his request denied?

Who carried out the attack? What was the reason behind it?

Who was tracking the incident in the White House?

Who was making decisions and giving orders throughout the night? And who was carrying them out?

Why was there no significant attempt to make any kind of response to the attack when it began?

Where was the President during the attack? What was he doing?

Why did he not think an attack on a diplomatic post required some of his personal attention?

Who decided to blame the attack on the video, when the evidence is that everybody involved knew that wasn’t the case? And why?

Who ordered that the survivors be kept away from the Congressional investigators (even keeping their names secret), and why?

These questions have all been asked by various people in various venues, some of them many times, but none of them have been answered credibly by those who know the answers.

And three questions unasked by the traditional media:

Why was the Ambassador put in that position in the first place?

How can anyone look at this list of unanswered questions and not conclude that the Obama Administration is executing a cover-up of something by stonewall?

What is being covered up?

The primary question in every case starts with “Who?” Until that’s answered, the rest remain speculation. “Who” can tell us “why,” and nobody else.

President Obama has called this a “phony scandal.” His surrogates appear on television regularly to repeat that claim; and if they want to engage at all on the subject, they fall back to the law-enforcement approach–”We are working every day to identify who the killers are and to bring them to justice”–as if that were the only fact and action yet to be known and taken and as if the only reason to ask questions is to “make sure it never happens again.” But in the greater scheme of things, the much more important questions all have to do with actions in Washington, not in Libya. And because of that, the next favorite statement from those surrogates is “Republicans are just on a witch hunt to get dirt on the President.”

But wasn’t that exactly the motivation behind the 1973 Watergate hearings? Certainly they weren’t held just to make sure another hotel room break-in would never happen. Even if placing blame is the motive this time, the best response is to show that the dirt is not to be found at the President’s door.

The President has told us that he wants to get to the bottom of things; but today, we still have most of the same questions we had a year ago. And supporting the suspicion of a stonewall cover-up is the fact that almost all of those questions could be answered easily with three short sentences from the President to his immediate subordinates–”Answer the committee’s questions and tell the truth. If you don’t know the answers, find them. If you can’t do that, please find another line of work.”

I wonder why he hasn’t spoken to them.

The War On Tax Competition

By Breaking News

Taxes SC The War on Tax Competition

The Wall Street Journal has an illuminating editorial about the international war against tax competition. High-tax nations (such as the United States) don’t like it when businesses shift operations to low-tax environments, and they mean to put a stop to it, using a grim transnational regime of programs designed to ensure everyone, everywhere is equally overtaxed:

After five years of failing to spur a robust economic recovery through spending and tax hikes, the world’s richest countries have hit upon a new idea that looks a lot like the old: International coordination to raise taxes on business.

The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development on Friday presented its action plan to combat what it calls “base erosion and profit shifting,” or BEPS. This is bureaucratese for not paying as much tax as government wishes you did. The plan bemoans the danger of “double non-taxation,” whatever that is, and even raises the specter of “global tax chaos” if this bogeyman called BEPS isn’t tamed.

Don’t be fooled, because this is an attempt to limit corporate global tax competition and take more cash out of the private economy. In the U.S., the Obama Administration has made a five-year fetish of attacking successful American companies that dare to keep overseas profits overseas rather than pay America’s 35% corporate rate (plus state taxes). In the U.K., Starbucks, Google, and Amazon have been treated as scofflaws for not paying what politicians call their “fair share.”

Zimmerman Railroad Was On Track For A Conviction

By Doug Book

Zimmerman courthouse 300x215 Zimmerman Railroad was on Track for a Conviction

This week, CNN was once again referring to George Zimmerman as a “WHITE Hispanic,” meaning apparently that the defendant in the Trayvon Martin shooting case was not one of the garden variety Hispanics known to be deserving of welfare, food stamps, social security and of course a pathway to citizenship. White Hispanics it seems are the devious, racial profiling sort who enjoy shooting blacks while claiming self-defense. Naturally, CNN wanted to make certain its shrinking, viewing audience understood the difference.

Upon concluding a thorough investigation of the February 26th, 2012 shooting death of Trayvon Martin, the Sanford police found there was not enough evidence to charge George Zimmerman with a crime. According to then Sanford police chief Bill Lee, “…from an investigative standpoint, it was purely a matter of self-defense.”  How did a man who legally defended his life from a drug impaired, known thug come to face a possible lifetime in prison?

Obviously the prosecution of George Zimmerman had everything to do with the politics of race. The black in the White House who claimed his son would look like Trayvon, the black Attorney General who famously keeps prosecutors away from “his people” and professional race hustlers Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson–all brought immense pressure on Florida politicians from Governor Rick Scott to Sanford Mayor Jeff Triplett.  It was this pressure which caused officials to ignore evidence and police findings of self defense. It prompted the weak-kneed Governor Scott to appoint Special Prosecutor Angela Corey who could bypass the state’s Grand Jury system in order to bring her own charges against Zimmerman. (The grand jury would have based its findings on fact and evidence, far too dicey a situation for an individual who had to be prosecuted whether guilty or not.) It’s now known that Corey withheld exculpatory evidence favorable to Zimmerman’s claim of self defense.

And the efforts of race-baiters and the Obama Administration to secure a guilty verdict against George Zimmerman were ongoing. Trial Judge Debra Nelson disallowed video evidence of Martin brandishing guns; suppressed evidence of Martin’s criminal background including information of stolen jewelry and burglar tools found in his backpack on the night of the shooting; excluded testimony from audio experts who would have shown it was Zimmerman screaming for help, not Martin; allowed prosecutors to present the lesser charge of manslaughter at the last moment when it became apparent their 2nd degree murder claims were not proved; ignored 6 formal defense complaints against prosecutors for withholding exculpatory evidence and asked Zimmerman about his plans to testify in a manner contrary to the law.

The American public watched as a thoroughly biased judge did her best to secure a conviction against a man who should not have been on trial in the first place. Had George Zimmerman been found guilty, race hustlers and corrupt politicians would have succeeded in robbing an innocent man of his liberty while making those who would defend a life seem no better than those who would take one.

Fortunately, a jury of 6 had …read more

Video: Terrorists In The White House

By Kris Zane

On June 13, 2013, Hamas-linked radical cleric Sheik Abdullah Bin Bayyah met with the Obama administration, none other than National Security Advisor Tom Donilon heading the meeting. Also included was the Obama administration’s special envoy to the Muslim community, Rashad Hussain, who is deeply embedded in the Muslim Brotherhood.

This is the same Hamas—officially designated as a terrorist group by the U.S. government—who have called for the destruction of the United States, the destruction of Israel, and the annihilation of the Jewish people down to every last man, woman, and child.

This is the same Hamas who have openly murdered thousands of innocent people, including shooting rockets into Israeli schools.

This is the same Hamas who regularly chant “Death to America!” on every street corner.

What exactly was the Obama administration discussing with our enemies? Removing Hamas off of the list of designated terrorists organizations!

Oh, but this is only the beginning…

Hamas is only one side of the radical White House coin—the Muslim Brotherhood being the other side.

Yes, the Muslim Brotherhood that Barack Hussein Obama backed in Egypt, and still secretly hopes will be returned to power.

The same Muslim Brotherhood that in their own internal documents call for the destruction of the United States.

The same Muslim Brotherhood whose front group CAIR—the Council on American Islamic Relations—an unindicted co-conspirator in the Holy Land Foundation terrorist funding trial—has had literally hundreds of meetings with the Obama Administration.

But the Muslim Brotherhood not only meets with the Obama administration, but is inside the Obama administration.

All of the following individuals have deep ties to the Muslim Brotherhood:

Arif Alikhan, assistant secretary of Homeland Security for policy development.

Mohammed Elibiary, a member of the Homeland Security Advisory Council.

Rashad Hussain, the U.S. special envoy to the Organization of the Islamic Conference.

And Eboo Patel, member of Obama’s Advisory Council on Faith-Based Neighborhood Partnerships.

Gay Men Mobilize To Lift Ban On Donating Blood

By Breaking News

Blood Donate SC Gay men mobilize to lift ban on donating blood

Ramping up their fight to overturn a ban dating back to 1985 and the emergence of the AIDS crisis, gay-rights organizers are preparing an unprecedented “national gay blood drive” Friday to urge the federal government to change its donation policy and allow some openly gay and bisexual men to give blood.

None of the thousands of men expected to show up to blood donation centers is likely to be allowed to donate, but gay-rights activists are eager to show that the ban prevents countless units of healthy blood from being accepted into the blood banks.

This is “a demonstration of peace,” said Ryan James Yezak, organizer of Friday’s national gay blood drive.

Banning gay and bisexual men as blood donors promotes a blood shortage, creates a negative stereotype about the men and “is discrimination based on sexual orientation,” said Mr. Yezak, a gay filmmaker.

The blood drive — just weeks after the U.S. Supreme Court overturned a federal law banning recognition of same-sex marriage and a May decision by Boy Scouts of America leaders to admit openly gay youths to their program — is the latest front in an expanding national push for gay equality.

The Promise of America: Welcoming Our Newest Citizens

By Felicia Escobar

This week more than 7,800 candidates will become citizens at more than 100 ceremonies across the country and around the world. Obama Administration officials participated in ceremonies which were part of the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services‘ annual celebration of Independence Day.

On July 4, to celebrate our nation’s birth, White House Chief of Staff, Denis McDonough, gave remarks at a special ceremony at George Washington’s Mt. Vernon where 101 new citizens recited the Oath of Allegiance and became American citizens. Mt. Vernon is one of the prominent landmarks to host naturalization ceremonies this year in honor of Independence Day.

During the ceremony, Mr. McDonough discussed the ways immigrants have always contributed to the success of our economy:

“Throughout our history, immigrants have enriched our nation. From Albert Einstein who brought us the theory of relativity to Andrew Carnegie who led the American expansion in steel. From Madeline Albright our former Secretary of State to Jerry Yang who founded Yahoo!. America has benefited immensely from the contributions and talents of these and millions of other immigrants.”

Benghazi: The Cover-up Continues

By Jim Emerson

Secretary of State John F. Kerry just wishes that Congress would stop asking him silly questions about the September 11 murders in Benghazi.  Rather than release any facts, he continued the obfuscation of the truth that the Obama Administration will be known for. He chastised members of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, insisting that all State Department Officials have testified and that all documents were made available to Congress (minus testimony from the survivors of the murderous attacks, of course.) When pressed to provide a better accounting of events, he told Congress “I do not want to spend the next year coming up here talking to you about Benghazi.” Secretary Kerry relayed the Administration’s mantra to House Republicans when he suggested “Let’s put this behind us.”

Mr. Kerry believes that Congress already has all of the information to which it is entitled, given that Regime officials have already testified. Congressman Ed Royce (R-CA) pointed out that the Administration may be “attempting to stonewall the progress ” to get the facts behind the Benghazi murders. The Congressman believes that his staffers are being deliberately ignored by the Administration. So much for transparency.

Congressman Dana Rohrabacher (R-CA) hit a nerve when he suggested that the Obama Administration lied to Congress and the American people about the nature of the attack. He told the Secretary that the Committee needed “to talk to the people who [were] on the scene.”  The Secretary told the Committee he will appoint a special Liaison to deal with requests on Benghazi. In other words, he doesn’t want to deal with Congress anymore.

Mr. Kerry told committee members he’ll work with them in getting answers to legitimate questions. He maintains that no one lied. Yet, to escape further questions, he did his version of “Why does it matter” by insisting  “we got a lot more important things to move on to and get done.” For instance, dismantling America’s missile defense to appease the Chinese.

Fact Sheet: The Obama Administration’s Comprehensive Efforts to Promote Gender Equality and Empower Women and Girls Worldwide

By The White House

“When women succeed, nations are more safe, more secure, and more prosperous. Over the last year, we’ve seen women and girls inspiring communities and entire countries to stand up for freedom and justice, and I’m proud of my Administration’s efforts to promote gender equality worldwide.” –President Barack Obama, March 8, 2013

President Obama has made promoting gender equality and advancing the status of women and girls central to our national security strategy and foreign policy, including by leading through example at home. The Administration will continue to prioritize these efforts in the coming years, in collaboration with stakeholders throughout the world, recognizing that our journey is far from complete and that securing equal rights and opportunity for women and girls is not only the right thing to do, but the smart thing to do.

Highlights of the Obama Administration’s record to empower women and girls worldwide include:

Building Capacity and Enhancing Coordination and Accountability across the U.S. Government

Strengthening our leadership and coordination to enhance our impact abroad: On January 30, 2013, President Obama signed a Presidential Memorandum directing that the Secretary of State designate a Coordinator at the Ambassador at Large level, reporting directly to the Secretary of State, to lead the Office of Global Women’s Issues and to provide advice and assistance on issues related to promoting gender equality and advancing the status of women and girls internationally. In this Memorandum, President Obama also recognized the accomplishments and leadership of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID)’s Senior Coordinator for Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment, and established an interagency working group led by the White House National Security Staff.

Bolstering agency policies, staffing, and training: Agencies have issued policy and operational guidance, including at the Department of State, the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), and USAID, to ensure a comprehensive approach on gender equality and women’s empowerment. From the Department of Justice to the Department of Defense, the Administration has expanded training and created new positions, including on the National Security Staff, to advance these policies.

Holding ourselves accountable and monitoring our progress: The MCC and its partners in compact countries have made significant progress in integrating gender equality into projects that support poverty reduction through growth. In March 2011, the MCC released guidelines for gender integration that make MCC’s Gender Policy fully operational, and MCC will continue to work to improve both global policy and practice. The Department of State and USAID are also launching new efforts to strengthen the evidence base on the importance of promoting gender equality, including by improving data collection and strengthening metrics.

Increasing Women’s Roles in Conflict Prevention and Security Decision-making

Empowering women as equal partners in preventing conflict and building peace: On December 19, 2011, the Obama Administration released Executive Order 13595 and the U.S. National Action Plan on Women, Peace, and Security to support women’s voices and perspectives in decision-making in countries threatened and affected by

Top Dem Sees ‘train Wreck’ For Health Law Rollout

By Breaking News

WASHINGTON— A senior Democratic senator who helped write President Barack Obama’s health care law stunned administration officials Wednesday, saying openly he thinks it’s headed for a “train wreck” because of bumbling implementation.

“I just see a huge train wreck coming down,” Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus, D-Mont., told Obama’s health care chief during a routine budget hearing that suddenly turned tense.

Baucus is the first top Democrat to publicly voice fears about the rollout of the new health care law, designed to bring coverage to some 30 million uninsured people through a mix of government programs and tax credits for private insurance. Polls show that Americans remain confused by the complex law, and even many uninsured people are skeptical they will be helped by benefits that start next year.

A six-term veteran, Baucus expects a tough re-election in 2014. He’s still trying to recover from approval ratings that nosedived amid displeasure with the health care law in his home state.

Normally low-key and supportive, Baucus challenged Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius at Wednesday’s hearing.

Report: US, Japan trade talks could see scrapping of car and truck tariffs

By Jonathon Ramsey

2015 Subaru WRX STI Spy Shots

Filed under:

Trade issues between the United States and Japan, especially in the automotive sector, have struck a repetitive note for decades: our market is open to them, their market is effectively closed to us. Even though Japan doesn’t apply tariffs to cars we export there – whereas we tax Japanese passenger cars 2.5 percent and Japanese light trucks 25 percent – other barriers like Japan‘s 2,000-unit cap in the Preferential Handling Program and regulatory hurdles have limited the amount of effective trade US companies can conduct there. In 2011 for instance, the US exported $1.5 billion in auto products to Japan but imported $41 billion in auto products from Japan. And it’s said that Japan sells 120 cars in the US for every car a US manufacturer sells there.

That’s why potential US approval of Japan‘s request to enter the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) is sending automotive criers out in the streets. The TPP is a series of long-running talks to open up trade between the US and 10 other nations (Australia, Brunei Darussalam, Canada, Chile, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore, and Vietnam). Last month, Japan asked to join the talks, and the TPP membership would need to assent to the request within 90 days of the next TPP meeting, scheduled for Peru in July.

It looks like the US will agree to let Japan in and that has some politicians and labor groups concerned, the fear being that Japan will get an even easier time of it here without truly eliminating hurdles over there. Talks between Japan and the US are said to be at “an advanced stage,” with the US trying to get some early agreements in advance in sectors like auto, insurance and agriculture before the July meeting.

The AFL-CIO is wary, just one of the labor groups worried about losing ground just when it’s said that American manufacturing is coming back. Ford, not a newcomer to being vocal about trade issues with Japan, is against Japan‘s inclusion to the TPP talks, as is the American Automotive Policy Council. And certain members of Congress are hesitant to let Japan sit at the table, based on past and current unresolved issues. Nevertheless, it doesn’t look like the Obama Administration and a large pro-business lobby will turn away from the possibility of adding the world’s third largest economy to the proceedings, the US government having already unofficially welcomed Japan to the TPP talks.

Despite sequester, State Department ups support for the UN

By George Russell

Even as the mandated sequester bites into U.S. federal spending — and newly appointed Secretary of State John Kerry boasts that he is cutting his budget by 6 percent — the State Department is planning to boost spending on the United Nations in 2014 by more than 4 percent to at least $3.6 billion.

That is likely to be far from the final tally of Obama Administration support, as hundreds of millions of dollars in U.S. development, health and other funds are usually channeled through U.N. agencies and institutions — with the U.N. agencies taking administrativefees as part of the deal. The most recent tally on the website of the White House Management and Budget website, for example, lists support for the U.N. at $7.7 billion — in 2010.

Nonetheless, the portions that are sprinkled across various areas of State’s 2014 budget—which, like the rest of the administration’s proposed budget, must still face Congressional approval– are impressive, at least in terms of their hikes over previous years.

The projected spending increase for the New York-based U.N. Secretariat, for example, is an 8.6 percent hike, to $617.6 million, compared with 2013. It represents the U.S.’ 22 percent annual share –the highest by far of any country–of the Secretariat’s “regular” budget covered by dues levied on richer member states.

When a broader array of U.N. affiliated agencies, listed under “Contributions to International Organizations,” are added in to the Secretariat support, the U.S. planned contribution climbs to $1.2 billion — a still significant 4.5 percent hike in an age of enforced American domestic austerity.

Meantime, proposed U.S. contributions to U.N. peacekeeping are also taking a big hike, to $2.09 billion, up more than a quarter-billion dollars, or 13.9 percent, from 2013, and an even more impressive 14.6 percent since 2012.

One reason: there has been an increase this year in the annual share of global peacekeeping expenses that the U.S. bears, from 27.14 percent to 28.36 percent, even as a number of peacekeeping missions close or shrink.

But there have also been expanded, and unexpected, increases in U.N. forces in Libya, Sudan, Democratic Republic of the Congo and Somalia, to name a few. The State Department budget also contains, among other things, an optimistic $50 million item to support a “U.N. presence in Syria.”

Even those total big-ticket categories, of course, vastly understate the amount of money that the U.S.. showers on the U.N. each year, which includes food aid, healthand humanitarian assistance that are channeled through U.N. agencies, which claim administrative fees for handling the aid — though often not especially well.

Just as important as the overall amount, however, are the Administration’s priorities, in a $47.8 billion budget that Secretary of State Kerry, in an 8-page introductory letter, calls “a reflection of priorities and hard choices in a difficult fiscal environment.” (Interestingly enough, the term “United Nations” does not occur even once in the letter.)

This time, even some of the much smaller priority streams of U.S. funding through U.N. channels may prove controversial.

Among them: an Administration renewal of

House Republicans will hold hearing on Fisker, Henrik asks for travel funds

2012 fisker karma

Filed under:

House Republicans have been critical of the Obama Administration over new-energy loans to companies such as Tesla Motors, and will hold a hearing later this month to discuss struggling California-based Fisker Automotive, the Wall Street Journal says.

Representative Darrell Issa (R-CA), of the Government Reform and Oversight Committee, said he will also accelerate a probe into Fisker’s business, and told Automotive News that Fisker, “is a design company, not a manufacturing company. It was destined to fail from the beginning. The greater concern is, does this affect more viable companies, whether they received loans or not?”

Co-founder Henrik Fisker, CEO Tony Posawatz and COO Bernhard Koehler are among those being asked to testify in the April 24 hearing, the Journal reports. Fisker resigned as the company’s executive chairman in March.

“Fisker is a design company, not a manufacturing company. It was destined to fail from the beginning” – Darrell Issa, R-CA.

Republicans have criticized the Obama Administration for US Energy Department loans to companies such as electric-vehicle maker Tesla, now-bankrupt solar-panel maker Solyndra LLC and Fisker, whose $529-million credit line with the government was frozen after just $192 million was distributed because the automaker missed certain production quotas. Nonetheless, Fisker (the man, not the company) has asked for travel expenses reimbursement, but told the Detroit News, “If they are not going to reimburse me as guided by (a staff member), I am still planning to travel on my own expense to testify as I have nothing to hide.”

Last month, Fisker furloughed its US employees and hired a law firm for a potential bankruptcy proceeding.
