Watch the New Hunger Games: Catching Fire Trailer

A question was asked today at Lionsgate’s Hunger Games: Catching Fire panel at San Diego Comic-Con, and it was a perhaps predictable one considering the franchise’s core fanbase: “How intense will the kissing scenes be?”

Thankfully this led to stars Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson recalling shooting a scene that involved her snot connecting to his mouth. “It’s going to be really hot,” they laughed.

This was the first time Hunger Games has ever done the huge Hall H at the con, and it was a fun one, owing largely to Lawrence and her charm. She caused much swooning in the aisles of the hall.

The panel also included director Francis Lawrence, Willow Shields (Primrose), Lenny Kravitz (Cinna), Jena Malone (Johanna), Jeffrey Wright (Beetee), Liam Hemsworth (Gale), and Josh Hutcherson (Peeta).

‘Catching Fire’ Quarter Quell Posters Feature Enobaria & Brutus, Past Hunger Games Victors (PHOTO)

By The Huffington Post News Editors

With “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” set to debut in November, Lionsgate is ready to ramp up the anticipated sequel’s promotion. Before the cast and crew descends on San Diego for this summer’s annual Comic-Con festivities, fans can enjoy a series of new Quarter Quell posters, featuring some favorite District victors from past Hunger Games.

Here at HuffPost Entertainment, we’re happy to co-debut “Catching Fire” Quarter Quell posters for Enobaria and Brutus (played by Meta Golding and Bruno Gunn), the two past Games winners from District 2, with sister site Moviefone. (You’ll remember Enobaria because her teeth are shaped into pointed gold fangs.) Check out the posters below.

Enobaria and Brutus aren’t the only two Games champions to have their own poster: Katniss and Peeta (over at Yahoo!), Johanna (at MSN), Finnick and Mags (at Empire), Wiress and Beetee (at MTV), and Gloss and Cashmere (at The Los Angeles Times Hero Complex blog), all received some striking new artwork.

Trailer Talk: 'The Hunger Games: Catching Fire'

By Scott Mendelson, Contributor

2013 Mazda2 - metallic green, front three-quarter view

It’s no secret that I rather loathed the first Hunger Games movie.  You can read my overlong review from last year, but the short version is that it refused to acknowledge the horror of its premise (impoverished children being abducted by the government and being forced to kill each other for the entertainment of the proverbial 1%) and instead fashioned an artificial morality with swoon-worthy heroes and hiss-able villains in order to create a crowd-pleasing franchise-starter.   But one thing I did appreciate about The Hunger Games, well aside from it being an original literary adaptation intended for today’s kids as opposed to a reboot/revamp of a 1980’s or 1990’s property, is how discreet its marketing campaign was.  Lionsgate knew they had the goods for a relatively successful film and didn’t feel the need to give away the store.

‘Hunger Games: Catching Fire’ Trailer Debuts On MTV Movie Awards: ‘She Must Be Eliminated’ (VIDEO)

By The Huffington Post News Editors

Hunger Games” fans caught a first look at “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” on Sunday night’s MTV Movie Awards.

Star Liam Hemsworth, who plays District 12 hunter and dreamboat Gale Hawthorne in the blockbuster franchise, unveiled the first “Catching Fire” trailer during the MTV Movie Awards broadcast. Lionsgate and the music television network teased the first look earlier in April with a seven-second glimpse of the festivities.

“The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” picks up after “The Hunger Games” left off, with Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark (Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson) celebrating their win at the 74th annual Hunger Games and keeping up the appearance of their manufactured love affair. (Or is it manufactured?) Philip Seymour Hoffman, Lenny Kravitz, Stanley Tucci, Jeffrey Wright, Elizabeth Banks, Jena Malone and Sam Claflin all co-star in the film, which is directed by Frances Lawrence. (No relation to Jennifer Lawrence; Frances took over for “Hunger Games” director Gary Ross.)

Will "Hunger Games" Matter for Netflix Anymore?

By Anders Bylund, The Motley Fool

Filed under:

The Hunger Games is a kingmaker. Shares of producer and distributor Lions Gate have gained a heart-stopping 180% since early 2012, in no small part thanks to Katniss Everdeen‘s big-screen adventures. The film collected $408 million in domestic ticket sales and $691 million worldwide.

And now, you can stream the movie on Netflix . Can the dystopian action title light a Lions Gate-size fire under Netflix as well?

Source: thehungergamesmovie.com.

I thought it might, back when the film’s path to Netflix was first unveiled. “If Hunger Games and The Walking Dead don’t motivate a significant influx of new Netflix subscribers in the second half of 2012, I’ll buy a hat just so I can eat it,” I said. And I bet you can see the flaw in my reasoning right there.

It’s not 2012 anymore. Hunger Games made it to DVD and Blu-ray release by August. Cable channel EPIX won the right to presenting the movie in the premium cable window, which opened on January 1, 2013. EPIX sublicensors like Netflix then had to wait another 90 days to get hold of the title.

Netflix isn’t exactly treating Katniss like royalty today. There was a teaser tweet and a brief Facebook post last night. Clicking over to the signup page for new subscribers, you’d hardly know there was a brand-new major title on tap. It’s not a full-court press like the account-free mini trial you got for House of Cards in February.

So here we are, 90 days into the new year, and Netflix finally gets to stream one of last year’s hottest titles. Meanwhile, Netflix customers in Latin America have enjoyed The Hunger Games digitally since August and the British Isles got an exclusive Netflix deal last month. We’re lagging in America, where Amazon.com also streams the movie because the exclusive Netflix-EPIX agreement expired last summer.

Yes, Amazon also introduced a Hunger Games stream today. And no, Amazon isn’t promoting the title all that much, either.

The fire has faded somewhat, I’m afraid. The first sequel bows in November, and maybe the online movie services will tie into that marketing frenzy instead. Hunger Games arrives too late to really make a difference otherwise.

The tumultuous performance of Netflix shares since the summer of 2011 has caused headaches for many devoted shareholders. While the company’s first-mover status is often viewed as a competitive advantage, the opportunities in streaming media have brought some new, deep-pocketed rivals looking for their piece of a growing pie. Can Netflix fend off this burgeoning competition, and will its international growth aspirations really pay off? These are must-know issues for investors, which is why The Motley Fool released a brand-new premium report on Netflix. Inside, you’ll learn about the key opportunities and risks facing the company, as well as reasons to buy or sell the stock. The report includes a full year of updates to …read more

Indie Spirit Awards 2013: ‘Silver Linings Playbook’ vs. ‘Beasts Of The Southern Wild’ (PHOTOS)

By The Huffington Post News Editors

The Independent Spirit Awards are stereotyped as a drunken, casual, beachside soiree that takes place the day before the classy people step out for the Academy Awards. Hosted this year by ‘SNL‘ funnyman Andy Samberg, who described the event as “the only show watched by more people in the room than on TV,” the Spirit Awards lived up to its raunchy reputation.

Amy Poehler was on camera drinking directly from a large bottle of wine at her table, while John Hawkes stood up and threatened to drop his pants to the floor. Samberg worked his way through a plethora of penis jokes -– most notably observing that there has been a “real lack of on-screen d*ck in films this year. Everyone got d*ck shy.”

Samberg went on to roast Hollywood in general with the catchphrase of the day: “F*ck you, Hollywood.” He continued dryly, “you can take your ‘Hangovers’ and ‘Hunger Games‘ and shove it up your ass. You know what I’m talking about, Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence,” he joked.

Community Salutes the Movies

The day has almost arrived. This Thursday, NBC’s Community is back in our lives. Go, Human Beings! And from the look of things, the Season 4 premiere, “History 101,” holds nothing back, as Dean Pelton concocts his most elaborate Dean-scheme to date – a full-blown Hunger Games Hunger Deans in the Greendale cafeteria!

Yes, the students will have to compete for the right to enroll in the most popular class since “Who Indeed: A Critical Analysis of Television’s ‘Who’s the Boss?'” – “History of Ice Cream.” But this Hunger Games spoof isn’t the first time the show has paid hilarious homage to the movies. Oh no, Community, after finding a strong, creative voice with Season 1’s “Contemporary American Poultry,” has been delighting us for years with tons of nods to some cinematic classics, including Star Wars, Die Hard, Apollo 13, Pulp Fiction, Ghost and more. Here are the best of the best…

Watch The Hilarious 'NFL: Bad Lip Reading'

By Erik Kain, Contributor Video This is my favorite Bad Lip Reading since the excellent and always-hilarious-to-watch-again Hunger Games dub. I don’t know if that says something about my sense of humor—should such nonsensical, almost stream-of-conscious, dub-overs really be this funny?—but I can’t help myself. This makes me chuckle audibly every time. Follow me on Twitter or Facebook. Read my Forbes blog here.
