Japan Airlines flight for Tokyo returns to Boston

A Japan Airlines Boeing 787 that left Boston for Tokyo on Thursday returned to Boston “due to aircraft maintenance”, the company said on its website without elaborating.

Japan Airlines has one of the largest fleets of the Boeing 787 and has had several problems with the new-generation Dreamliner plane since it was allowed to resume flying after being grounded between January and April for serious battery problems.

The plane left from Boston at 12:57pm (1657 GMT) but returned to its airport of departure at around 6:00 pm.

“As a standard precautionary measure due to a maintenance message (fuel pump) indicator, JL007 bound for Tokyo-Narita decided to return to Boston Logan for check and landed safely,” Carol Anderson, a US-based JAL spokeswoman, told AFP in an email.

Boston Logan said on its Twitter site the 787 made “a precautionary return”.

“Flight has landed and is taxiing to gate,” it said.

JAL officials in Tokyo were not immediately available for comment.

Last week, another 787 used by Ethiopian Airlines caught fire at London’s Heathrow airport.

Japanese airlines Japan Airlines and ANA, which has the biggest fleet of the craft, have experienced around a dozen minor complaints with the 787 since it was allowed to resume flying after four months of being grounded.

After months of investigations, US authorities in April formally approved Boeing’s battery fix and Japanese regulators followed suit.

The battery supplier, Japan’s GS Yuasa, has voiced confidence that the system will never cause similar problems again.

Woods gets McDowell and Oosthuizen in Open draw

Tournament favourite Tiger Woods will join Ulsterman Graeme McDowell and South African Louis Oosthuizen for Thursday’s first round of the British Open.

The 37-year-old American, who will be playing competitively for the first time in a month after spraining his left elbow during the US Open, is seeking a 15th major title, over five years after winning his last at the 2008 US Open.

In McDowell he will have the 2010 US Open champion, who won his third title of the year at the French Open on July 7.

Oosthuizen won the British Open at St Andrews in 2010, with Woods having won the title there in 2005 and 2000.

They will have a mid-afternoon start on Thursday at 2:45 pm (1545 GMT) and a 9:44 am (1044 GMT) start on Friday.

Defending champion Ernie Els will go out with Justin Rose, who won the US Open last month and American Brandt Snedeker, seen as one of the finest putters in the game but who has yet to win a major.

Rory McIlroy, winless this year after making an equipment change that has seen his form slump, is paired with Phil Mickelson, who is back up to fifth in the world after winning the Scottish Open on Sunday and rising Japanese star Hideki Matsuyama.

Other top groupings see Lee Westwood, Sergio Garcia and Charl Schwartzel brought together as well as Masters champion Adam Scott, Matt Kuchar and Luke Donald.

First out on Thursday at 6:32 am (0732) will be Australian veteran Peter Senior, local lad Lloyd Saltman and Oliver Fisher of England.

Anonymous calls for Internet blackout to protest CISPA

Hacking group Anonymous asked websites to black out their front pages on Monday, in protest against legislation in the U.S. that would allow online companies and government agencies to more easily share personal information.

The protest against the Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act (CISPA), meant to start from 6 a.m. GMT, appeared to have little traction early. Anonymous-related accounts called for action on Twitter using the hashtag “#CISPABlackout” and a spattering of minor sites blocked access, including the popular “Funny” category on Reddit.

CISPA is meant to encourage better sharing of information during active cyberattacks. It allows U.S. intelligence agencies to share classified data on cyberthreats with private firms, something that is currently prohibited. It also protects firms that voluntary share cyberthreat information with other firms or the government from privacy lawsuits by users.

Critics say it would allow private companies to share a broad range of customer data with each other and the government. Privacy advocates have also pointed out that it doesn’t require such companies to scrub unnecessary customer information from what is shared. The bill was approved last week in the U.S. House of Representatives, though it must still be passed by the Senate, and advisors to President Barack Obama have promised a veto.

Moderate earthquake rattles town in northwest Iran

Iran‘s state TV says a moderate, magnitude 5.2 earthquake rattled a small town in the country’s northwest.

The TV says the quake shook the town of Tasooj at 3:09 p.m. (10:39 GMT) on Thursday. The town is about 600 kilometers (370 miles) northwest of the capital, Tehran. There were no immediate reports about any damage or casualties.

The U.S. Geological Survey put the magnitude of the quake at 4.8.

It’s the third quake in Iran in the past 10 days. A magnitude 7.5 quake shook a sparsely populated area near the Pakistani border on Tuesday. A week before that, a magnitude 6.1 quake struck another part of the south, killing 37 people and injuring hundreds.

Iran lies on seismic fault lines and experiences one slight quake a day on average.

Founder and CEO, Steve McKay, Will Deliver a Presentation entitled, “Who’s ahead? US vs. UK” at 15:55 GMT

RICHMOND, Va.–(BUSINESS WIRE)– DriveFactor, a trusted source for driving data and analytics, today announced that Founder and CEO, Steve McKay, will speak at the Insurance Telematics Summit in London on Monday, March 18, 2013 at 15:55 GMT.

McKay will be presenting during the fourth session which is focused on adding value to the telematics proposition and the role of technology. McKay’s presentation, entitled “Who’s ahead? US vs. UK” will highlight how insurers, even with the most advanced programs, have shifted their focus from technology and scoring to value proposition, distribution, and advertising―where the battle ultimately will be won or lost. He will review the evolution of messaging and media, what has worked and what hasn’t.

“Different approaches to consumers lead to different choices of technology and analysis,” said McKay. “This will create a highly segmented, low cost, broad market future. It is remarkable how differently the United States and the United Kingdom have developed usage based insurance and how much they can learn from each other. Putting the two together tells a compelling story about what can happen next and who will emerge as the leaders in each country.”

Hosted by Marketforce, the Insurance Telematics Summit is being held at Jumeirah Carlton Tower in London, UK on March 18, 2013. The conference will bring together leaders in the UK motor insurance market to discuss the next steps for usage-based insurance―from dynamic pricing to effective marketing strategies.

Version of OpenSSL being used

By CHoggarth

Hello

I’m relatively new to technologies like Apache & ssl but have some years
experience with Unix. My question concerns the version of OpenSSL which is
genuinely being used on our server & how is that set.

The server is running Solaris 10. I’ll show output from various commands:

Code:

:/usr/local/ssl # pkginfo -l SMCossl
PKGINST: SMCossl
NAME: openssl
CATEGORY: application
ARCH: sparc
VERSION: 1.0.1c
BASEDIR: /usr/local
VENDOR: The OpenSSL Group
PSTAMP: Steve Christensen
INSTDATE: Aug 17 2012 07:27
EMAIL: steve@smc.vnet.net
STATUS: completely installed
FILES: 1871 installed pathnames
1 shared pathnames
43 directories
32 executables
30745 blocks used (approx)

:/usr/local/ssl #

Code:

:/usr/local/ssl # openssl version -a
OpenSSL 1.0.1c 10 May 2012
built on: Sun May 13 18:44:13 EDT 2012
platform: solaris-sparcv9-gcc
options: bn(64,32) rc4(ptr,char) des(idx,cisc,16,long) idea(int) blowfish(ptr)
compiler: gcc -fPIC -DOPENSSL_PIC -DOPENSSL_THREADS -D_REENTRANT -
DDSO_DLFCN -DHAVE_DLFCN_H -m32 -mcpu=ultrasparc -O3 -fomit-frame-

_ASM -DSHA256_ASM -DSHA512_ASM -DAES_ASM -DGHASH_ASM
OPENSSLDIR: "/usr/local/ssl"
:/usr/local/ssl #

But if I run telnet xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx 80 & OPTIONS / HTTP1.0 from our network it reports 0.9.8x:

Code:

HTTP/1.1 200 OK
Date: Tue, 19 Feb 2013 10:20:37 GMT
Server: Apache/2.2.23 (Unix) mod_ssl/2.2.22 OpenSSL/0.9.8x DAV/2
Allow: POST,OPTIONS,GET,HEAD
Vary: Accept-Encoding
Content-Length: 0
Connection: close
Content-Type: text/html

Connection to host lost.

W:>

I’ve been advised to use OPTIONS / HTTP1.0 to determine which version is genuinely being used.

We have in the past installed SSL by package (the most recent being 1.0.1) & source (presumably the most recent being 0.9.8x).

I need to upgrade SSL on this server & I would like to use the 1.0.1 stream (I understand packages are more likely to be available for this & that’s certainly easier to install). But I can’t figure out why the system is really using 0.9.8x when the server itself is saying that 1.0.1 is being used.

I am assuming that the OPTIONS / HTTP1.0 command is giving me the true version.

Can anyone clarify what might be happening & advise how I can start using 1.0.1?

Thanks, Chris

Nintendo Direct Coming Tomorrow

Less than a month after its massive Wii U Nintendo Direct, which announced new Mario, Mario Kart and Zelda games, Nintendo is returning with another Nintendo Direct broadcast, scheduled to air tomorrow, February 14, at 6am PT/9am PT/2pm GMT.

Curiously, the topics vary by region. Nintendo appears to have no plans for a Japanese broadcast, though the lack of an announcement could simply be due to the fact that it’s past midnight in Kyoto. (It is not unprecedented for Nintendo to announce and stream a Direct within a span of hours. Perhaps they will announce in the morning?) Nintendo of America says it will be discussing upcoming 3DS and Wii U games. Nintendo of Europe, however, will only be discussing 3DS games.

Converting real time to epoch time

By vivek d r

Code:

[root@ds-accm-z2-pri196 ~]# date +%s -d "Mon Feb 11 02:26:04"
1360567564
[root@ds-accm-z2-pri196 ~]# perl -e 'print scalar localtime(1360567564), "n";'
Mon Feb 11 02:26:04 2013

the epoch conversion is working fine. but one of my application needs 13 digit epoch time as input

Code:

1359453135154

rather than 10 digit epoch time

Code:

1360567564

is there some conversion that i am missing? any help will be deeply appreciated. thanks

PS: in one of the epoch online conversion website i tried to convert both types of epoch time. both are working but in unix i am not able to convert into 13 digit output epoch time 🙁

HTML Code:

[B]Convert epoch to human readable date and vice versa[/B]

e [batch convert timestamps to human dates]
Assuming that this timestamp is in milliseconds:
GMT: Tue, 29 Jan 2013 09:52:15 UTC
Your time zone: 29 January 2013 03:22:15 GMT+5.5

[B]Convert epoch to human readable date and vice versa[/B]

e [batch convert timestamps to human dates]
GMT: Mon, 11 Feb 2013 07:11:13 UTC
Your time zone: 11 February 2013 12:41:13 GMT+5.5
