Chinese Woman Stuck Between Walls Mistaken For A Ghost, Rescued 7 Hours Later (VIDEO)

By The Huffington Post News Editors

A woman in China’s Anhui province has been rescued after spending a night stuck between two walls.

According to the Independent, she’d taken a narrow path between two buildings, believing it to be a shortcut on her way home, then become lodged, unable to move, for seven hours.

Unfortunately for both the woman and the owners of the buildings she was pancaked against, her calls for help were believed to be the cries of a ghost. As such, they were ignored (as much as the incessant cries of a ghost can be) until the next morning, when passersby raised the alarm, CNN notes.

Juror: ‘No Doubt’ Zimmerman Feared For His Life

By Breaking News

George Zimmerman SC Juror: No doubt Zimmerman feared for his life

One of the six jurors in the George Zimmerman trial said Monday that she was certain Zimmerman feared for his life during the confrontation with 17-year-old Trayvon Martin that ended in the teenager’s fatal shooting in February 2012.

“I have no doubt that George feared for his life in the situation he was in at the time,” the woman known as Juror B37 told CNN’s Anderson Cooper.

“I think both were responsible for the situation they had gotten themselves into,” the juror added. “I think they both could have walked away.”

Martin Literary Management announced Monday that it was representing B37 and her husband, who is an attorney. The names of the jurors have not been released due to a court anonymity order, but during jury selection it was disclosed that B37 works in an unspecified management position and has two adult children.

But agency head Sharlene Martin released a statement late Monday saying she was no longer representing the juror and that the juror had dropped the book idea. It included a statement that she said was crafted in conjunction with the agency in which the juror explained that being sequestered had kept her shielded “from the depth of pain that exists among the general public over every aspect of the case.” The juror said that the book was meant to show that our justice system “can get so complicated that it creates a conflict with our `spirit’ of justice.”

Zimmerman Railroad Was On Track For A Conviction

By Doug Book

Zimmerman courthouse 300x215 Zimmerman Railroad was on Track for a Conviction

This week, CNN was once again referring to George Zimmerman as a “WHITE Hispanic,” meaning apparently that the defendant in the Trayvon Martin shooting case was not one of the garden variety Hispanics known to be deserving of welfare, food stamps, social security and of course a pathway to citizenship. White Hispanics it seems are the devious, racial profiling sort who enjoy shooting blacks while claiming self-defense. Naturally, CNN wanted to make certain its shrinking, viewing audience understood the difference.

Upon concluding a thorough investigation of the February 26th, 2012 shooting death of Trayvon Martin, the Sanford police found there was not enough evidence to charge George Zimmerman with a crime. According to then Sanford police chief Bill Lee, “…from an investigative standpoint, it was purely a matter of self-defense.”  How did a man who legally defended his life from a drug impaired, known thug come to face a possible lifetime in prison?

Obviously the prosecution of George Zimmerman had everything to do with the politics of race. The black in the White House who claimed his son would look like Trayvon, the black Attorney General who famously keeps prosecutors away from “his people” and professional race hustlers Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson–all brought immense pressure on Florida politicians from Governor Rick Scott to Sanford Mayor Jeff Triplett.  It was this pressure which caused officials to ignore evidence and police findings of self defense. It prompted the weak-kneed Governor Scott to appoint Special Prosecutor Angela Corey who could bypass the state’s Grand Jury system in order to bring her own charges against Zimmerman. (The grand jury would have based its findings on fact and evidence, far too dicey a situation for an individual who had to be prosecuted whether guilty or not.) It’s now known that Corey withheld exculpatory evidence favorable to Zimmerman’s claim of self defense.

And the efforts of race-baiters and the Obama Administration to secure a guilty verdict against George Zimmerman were ongoing. Trial Judge Debra Nelson disallowed video evidence of Martin brandishing guns; suppressed evidence of Martin’s criminal background including information of stolen jewelry and burglar tools found in his backpack on the night of the shooting; excluded testimony from audio experts who would have shown it was Zimmerman screaming for help, not Martin; allowed prosecutors to present the lesser charge of manslaughter at the last moment when it became apparent their 2nd degree murder claims were not proved; ignored 6 formal defense complaints against prosecutors for withholding exculpatory evidence and asked Zimmerman about his plans to testify in a manner contrary to the law.

The American public watched as a thoroughly biased judge did her best to secure a conviction against a man who should not have been on trial in the first place. Had George Zimmerman been found guilty, race hustlers and corrupt politicians would have succeeded in robbing an innocent man of his liberty while making those who would defend a life seem no better than those who would take one.

Fortunately, a jury of 6 had …read more

School that teaches Afghan girls to speak for themselves

Dah Yaya is an Afghan village set in stony hills and steeped in traditions that limit women to second-class status in this desperately poor country ravaged by Taliban insurgency.

But in a school set up by an Afghan-American woman named a 2012 top 10 hero by TV network CNN, girls are learning to dream of a different future, of saying “no” to the dictats of their elders.

Just a 40-minute drive from Kabul, the village feels as if it’s in the middle of nowhere. The road winds through the arid, dusty hills that encircle the Afghan capital, past mud-brick homes.

Women and girls wear burqas. Only once they are safely behind the gates of the Zabuli Education Center, do school girls take them off and leave them hanging on a banister.

Founded by Razia Jan as part of her battle to educate girls in rural Afghanistan, the school wants to exact change in a country notorious for dreadful women’s rights.

“I have 400 girls,” says Jan, who founded the school in 2008. Funded by private donors, it offers a free education to pupils.

“We made these girls speak for themselves, so that if something terrible happens in their life and they don’t want it, they fight it, they have the force to say no, no, no,” she added.

“The more education there is, the more doors open for them.”

A massive increase in the number of girls going to school since the fall of the repressive Taliban regime in 2001 is touted as one of the biggest achievements of Western intervention in the country.

From 1996 to 2001, the Taliban banned girls from going out to school. According to the Afghan education ministry, 42 percent of children in school are girls.

But poor attendance and absenteeism are major problems. Regular, high-profile cases of abuse, intimidation and violence underscore that for many women in parts of the country, little has changed.

But the Zabuli Education Center provides girls with better than average teaching. Girls learn English as young as four, and they also have access to computers and to the Internet.

Some profess to being fans of US superstar Jennifer Lopez and Canadian heart throb Justin Bieber — pop singers far beyond the traditional horizons of Afghan culture.

Zuhal Ansaari, 15, is passionate about art and is convinced that one day she can realise her dreams of becoming a teacher.

“Women and men have the same rights,” she told AFP.

“If a woman is educated, her role in the family becomes more important, she can teach her children and have a better life, because she knows at least the same thing as her husband.”

Nazaneen Jahd, 14, even believes that one day a woman could lead the country if she is properly educated and gets the chance.

“I hope that very soon there will be one,” she said.

According to the UN Girls’ Education Initiative, the literacy rate for Afghan women aged 15-24 is 18 percent, compared to 50 percent for boys, and only 13 percent of girls complete primary school.

It quotes statistics estimating the mean age of marriage …read more

Still Time To Stop Al Jazeera America!

By Cliff Kincaid

Al Jazeera is under scrutiny for subversion in Egypt, and facing a mutiny from its own reporters over supporting the Muslim Brotherhood there. But The Washington Post assures us in a story that the channel’s official launch in the United States is on August 20, and its coverage will be different.

Philip Seib, author of The Al Jazeera Effect, is quoted as saying, “I don’t think you’ll see al-Jazeera America touting the Muslim Brotherhood. It will be more like CNN.”

But the foreign owners in Qatar will remain the same, and that is part of the problem. Former Attorney General Michael Mukasey has said that Al Jazeera’s purchase of Al Gore’s Current TV should be the subject of a congressional inquiry because of the channel’s foreign sponsorship.

As Accuracy in Media has been reporting for over six years, the anti-American channel works hand-in-glove with the Muslim Brotherhood and its associated terrorist groups, including al Qaeda and Hamas. Nothing has changed. In fact, Al Jazeera has become more open about its work as a foreign policy instrument of Qatar, including the promotion of al Qaeda-linked terrorist groups in Syria.

It is apparent that the Egyptian military and its supporters in the pro-democracy movement didn’t want Egypt to become another Syria.

The Muslim Brotherhood website still carries a story referring to Al Jazeera as “the greatest Arab media organization.” The channel originally made a name for itself by airing al-Qaeda videos, and one of its correspondents was convicted of being an agent of the terrorist group that carried out the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

The hit movie “Zero Dark Thirty,” based on the killing of bin Laden, notes that the al-Qaeda leader was tracked down in part by locating a nearby Al Jazeera office that received and aired terrorist videos.

In response to the jailing of Al Jazeera journalists in Cairo after the overthrow of Mohamed Morsi, the channel proclaimed, “Regardless of political views, the Egyptian people expect media freedoms to be respected and upheld.”

Broadcaster Jerry Kenney, a leading critic of the Qatar-funded propaganda network, said, “This is hilarious. Media freedoms? Why don’t they allow it in Qatar?” Qatar, which sponsors and funds Al Jazeera, is a dictatorship that jails independent journalists and even poets critical of the regime.

But that doesn’t seem to bother Soledad O’Brien or the other Americans who are going to work for Al Jazeera America. “If you look at what they’re doing at Al Jazeera English: High quality journalism,” she says, oblivious to the fact that while its slant has been watered down somewhat, the channel still has a bias in favor of global jihad.

To cite one example, note our report on Al Jazeera English airing sympathetic coverage about, and running “exclusive” interviews with, terrorist leaders from Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM), whose symbol is an AK-47 rifle and a black flag rising from the globe.

One Al Jazeera story, headlined “Mali: The ‘gentle’ face of al-Qaeda,” was picked up by The Huffington Post, one of the most-read online news sites in the …read more

U.S. Tax System Ranks 94th Out Of 100—Right Below Zimbabwe

By Robert W. Wood, Contributor

Well, is the U.S. tax system competitive? Many global companies say it isn’t. In his recent Senate testimony, Apple AAPL -0.52% CEO Tim Cook distanced Apple from tax gimmicks, but the Senate Permanent Investigation Subcommittee report on Apple paints a grim picture. Many companies are even more aggressive and say our tax system is at fault. See Apple: Think Different. Tax Different.

Individuals complain too. U.S. citizens and permanent residents must report their worldwide income. Of late, that rule has landed many in hot water. Forget Wesley Snipes–Judge Gives ’5 Second Probation’ In $21M Tax Case. Americans living abroad and dual citizens are hit especially hard. See Expats Lobby For Tax on Residence, Not Worldwide Income.

Don’t believe them? Sara Keller and Deborah Schanz are German economists, but you have to hand it to them for their media savvy. They rate tax systems, good, bad and ugly. Everyone loves rankings. They have their own terminology too, Measuring Tax Attractiveness Across Countries.

Their Tax Attractiveness Index reflects the attractiveness of a country’s tax environment and the tax planning opportunities it offers. Like a kind of beauty pageant, their Tax Attractiveness Index covers 16 components of tax systems. OK, there is no tax system swimsuit competition.

They look at statutory tax rates, how dividends and capital gains are treated, withholding taxes, group tax regimes and more. They consider double tax treaties, thin capitalization rules, and controlled foreign company rules. But how they stir the pot to achieve rankings is no mere Gestalt approach.

The authors painstakingly quantify each tax factor. The Tax Attractiveness Index embraces 100 countries and examines 2005 to 2009. By comparing the Tax Attractiveness Index with the statutory tax rate, the authors claim, they can show that even high tax countries can offer favorable tax conditions.

Clearly, then, mere tax rates don’t reveal a country’s tax climate. There are many other factors besides rates. And how do we Americans stack up in the tax rankings?

Not well. Try 94 out of 100, just below Zimbabwe. Even Japan beat us, coming in at a rousing 92nd. On the brighter side, we might be mollified to know that we did beat a few. As DANIEL J. MITCHELL notes here, America’s Corporate Tax System Ranks a Miserable 94 out of 100, “the “good news” is that we beat out Argentina and Venezuela, two of the world’s most corrupt and despotic nations.”

Tax reform isn’t out of the question, of course. Still, this rank is pretty dismal. Even for individuals, when CNN reports U.S. Citizens Ditching Passports in Record Numbers, it must be true. Like CNN’s election night coverage, the stats don’t lie.

With over 670 U.S. citizens saying sayonara in the first 90 days of 2013, it’s shaping up to be the year of the expat. See also Q1 2013 – Highest Quarterly Number of Expatriates Ever (But…).

3D printers may soon produce guns, startup Wiki Weapon says

A 3D-printed gun capable of firing multiple rounds may be unveiled soon.

Cody Wilson, the 25-year-old founder and director of nonprofit organization Defense Distributed, recently told Mashable that the end product of Wiki Weapon, the initiative to create an operational 3D-printed gun, may soon be ready to unveil to the public.

In a March interview with CNN, Wilson said he hoped to have a printable gun ready by the end of April.

While Wilson was sparse with details, he did tell Mashable that the prototype would be a handgun consisting of 12 parts made out of ABS+ thermoplastic, which is known for its durability and is commonly used in industrial settings. The firing pin would be the only steel component of the 3D-printed gun, which will be able to withstand a few shots before melting or breaking, Mashable reports.

Ricin suspect long known for angry online screeds

The Mississippi man suspected of sending deadly ricin in letters to President Obama and a senator from his home state is no stranger to local police, who have long viewed him as a paranoid conspiracy theorist prone to violence.

Paul Kevin Curtis, a sometime-Elvis impersonator who appeared in a Mississippi federal court Thursday and denied wrongdoing, has penned numerous rants accusing the government of hounding him. Many of his screeds have ended with the same line his letter to President Obama reportedly did: “I am Kevin Curtis and I approve this message.”

An affidavit released by the Department of Justice quotes Curtis’ letters to Obama, Sen. Roger Wicker (R-Miss.) and a judge as saying: “Maybe I have your attention now even if that means someone must die.”

Curtis has claimed unknown forces blew up his car, interfered in his personal relationships and rigged Elvis impersonation contests. His rants, which have appeared at ripoffreport.com on his Facebook page seem to stem from 2001, when, as a cleaner hired by a morgue, he claims to have found bags of body parts, including a severed head. After reporting his discovery to authorities, Curtis came to believe he was made a “person of interest where my every move was watched and videotaped.”

On Ripoffreport.com, a forum for people to complain about purported scams, a man who identified himself as Curtis detailed in 2007 how the alleged incident began his spiral.

“3 Years of research lead to countless court battles, cops harassing me weekly, death threats, personal & financial losses, several thefts, my home burned down, car exploded, marriage dissolved & bankruptcy,” he wrote.

Curtis claims he sought help from elected officials, including Wicker, who was his congressman prior to being elected to the Senate in 2007. Wicker told CNN he has met Curtis and believed him to have “mental issues.”

Curtis reportedly wrote that he is on the “hidden front lines of a secret war” on his Facebook page hours before federal agents arrested him at his home in Corrinth Wednesday. He is being held in the Lafayette County Detention Center.

“My mother wants me to SHUT UP. My brothers fear me. My sister hates me.. . .I have lost most of my friends,” he wrote. “I have spent more than $130,000 on legal fees in 13.5 years.. . .They destroyed my marriage, they distracted my career, they stalked, they trolled, they came into my home, took my computers, had me arrested 22 times and guess what? I am still a thorn in the corrupt anals! I will remain here until Jesus Christ decides its time for me to go.”

The letters to Obama and Wicker, which bore Memphis postmarks, have tested positive for ricin. The ones sent to Washington were opened in a remote facility and no one appears to have been harmed by them. The FBI has said there is no indication of a connection between the letters and the Monday bombing in Boston that killed three people and injured more than 170. The letters to Obama and Wicker were postmarked April 8,

Gosnell’s Clinic Of Horrors

By Michael Reagan

Did you catch The Rev. Jesse Jackson the other night on CNN demanding a Senate hearing into why regulators never cracked down on that gruesome abortion clinic in Philadelphia?

Did you hear Al Sharpton on MSNBC saying that if Dr. Gosnell had been killing white babies in Bryn Mawr, his women’s clinic would have been shut down 30 years ago?

Did you see the tears in Oprah’s eyes when she read that passage from the grand jury report describing Gosnell’s abortion mill as “a baby charnel house” that “regularly and illegally delivered live, viable, babies in the third trimester of pregnancy — and then murdered these newborns by severing their spinal cords with scissors”?

Didn’t think so.

Where are America’s black leaders? Where are the president and the first lady?

From the pulpits to the Oval Office, black leaders have been shamefully silent on the case of Kermit Gosnell, the so-called doctor who made his fortune killing babies and endangering the health of women — mostly black babies and black women.

Gosnell is now on trial in Philadelphia, charged with the deaths of one woman and seven babies that were older than 24 weeks and had been born alive.

Of course, this modern Joseph is innocent until proven guilty. But the 280-page grand jury report about what went on at his clinic, available online, is a catalogue of horror and criminality.

Quoting many witnesses and former clinic employees, it details the filthy conditions at the clinic, the demeaning way non-white patients were treated, and the incompetent and ill-trained staff.

The grand jury report also shows that for decades, several state agencies repeatedly failed to do their oversight — even after being informed by patients, doctors, and attorneys that horrible things were going on at the clinic.

Local news outlets in Philadelphia also clearly failed to do their job. Like the pro-choice journalists who run newspapers and TV stations across the country, they apparently had zero interest in scrutinizing the day-to-day operations or conditions of an abortion clinic in their city.

Black leaders have been conspicuously tongue-tied on the Gosnell case, even though minority women were his prime victims and blacks account for a disproportionate percent of the country’s abortions.

But at least some national media giants have been shamed by pro-life politicians and honest pundits into finally giving Gosnell’s case the attention deserved by a story about dead babies, exploited women, racism, and government failure.

What happened to those babies and women in Philadelphia is more than a wake-up call for the news media to cover abortion fairly and begin scrutinizing the operations of their local clinics.

Gosnell’s clinic of horrors — and other abortion factories that we’ve yet to hear about — is exactly what we in the pro-life movement have been warning about since the early seventies.

It’s where we always said the slippery slope of Roe v. Wade leads. We’re no longer aborting babies. We’re murdering them after they’re born.
