‘White House Down’ Trailer: Roland Emmerich Takes On 1600 Penn … Again

By The Huffington Post News Editors

Director Roland Emmerich was born in Germany, but for the last 17 years he’s had his sight (and sights) set on the White House.

“I always jokingly say that they should put a plaque somewhere in one of the rooms,” Emmerich told HuffPost Entertainment. “Or my portrait: ‘The man who destroyed the White House the most.'”

Emmerich indeed has experience causing carnage on 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. In 1996, he let aliens blow up the White House in “Independence Day”; 13 years later, Emmerich used a tsunami and the U.S.S. John F. Kennedy to destroy the executive mansion of the United States in the disaster blockbuster “2012”; and this summer, Emmerich directs the film “White House Down,” which finds Channing Tatum and Jamie Foxx teaming up to prevent the domestic enemies from toppling the presidency. The first “White House Down” trailer premieres exclusively on HuffPost Entertainment; watch it above.

G.I. Joe: Retaliation Review

By Eric Goldman

With G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra making some money, but clearly not inspiring much enthusiasm, Paramount has gone for a pretty notable overhaul of the series with G.I. Joe: Retaliation. An unusual mixture of sequel and reboot, the new film does continue storylines and (a few) characters from the first movie, but also has some huge differences, both in terms of cast and crew and in the overall approach.

The early scenes establish the close bond between Duke (the returning Channing Tatum) and Roadblock (Dwayne Johnson), two members of the Joe team who head up a squad whose members include Snake-Eyes (Ray Park), Flint (D.J. Cotrona) and Lady Jaye (Adrianne Palicki). But when the Joes are framed and ambushed, only Roadblock and a few others are left to try to find those behind it and clear their name. (Hint: it’s Cobra!)

When You Can See the Wachowskis' Next

Warner Bros. has set an official release date for Andy and Lana Wachowski‘s upcoming science fiction film Jupiter Ascending: July 25, 2014.

Starring Mila Kunis and Channing Tatum, the story centers on a Russian immigrant (Kunis) who scrubs toilets for a living. Unbeknownst to her, she possesses the same perfect genetic makeup as the Queen of the Universe and is therefore a threat to her immortal rule. From there, an evolved bounty hunter (Tatum) is sent out to dispatch the cleaning lady, but they soon fall in love.

Jupiter Ascending‘s release date now pits the film against Brett Ratner’s Hercules, which has Dwayne Johnson attached to star.

Additionally, Warners has moved its boxing comedy Grudge Match from November 15, 2013, to January 10, 2014. That film stars Sylvester Stallone and Robert De Niro.
