Channing Tatum's (Designer) Rags to Riches Tale

By Randy Miller

Today Channing Tatum is among Forbes’s list of highest-paid actors, but back in 2003 he was just another working model. And we do mean working! A little highly motivated digging brought us to some of Channing’s earliest work. Flexing his acting talents with one of the finest blue steels we’ve ever laid eyes on, Channing strutted down the Sean John Fall runway in a look that included seamlessly fused faux-fur trim, biker boots, and long johns (could have been worse – the model before him wore chaps!). Bonus: scroll down to see four more looks from Channing’s modeling days! …read more

Miranda Kerr's at It Again For Mango

By Randy Miller

As if her street style wasn’t enough to envy, Miranda Kerr looks just as good on duty as off. Striking her finest poses for the second Mango campaign in a row, Miranda shot the Fall 2013 campaign in New York back in May with photographers Inez Van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin.

Giving us a preview of things to come when the ads are released in early August, Miranda described the clothes as “especially
 fun
 this
 season
 with
 a
 punk‐inspired
edge.” With the promise of worn details – like this ad’s torn denim – along with miniature prints, jacquard, and Orient-inspired silhouettes, we can’t wait to shop the pieces and spot them on Miranda!

Something For Everyone: Kanye West Reportedly Working on Unisex Clothing Line

By Justin Fenner

It may have taken him two years to create three garments with A.P.C., but rumor has it Kanye West will turn out a 100-piece collection of unisex clothes in just a few months’ time.

Page Six reported on Friday that West recently spent a week in Milan working on the collection, which – according to “spies” – will be presented during the Fall runway collections. His last two lines were both presented during Paris Fashion Week, so it stands to reason that he’d present this collection in the City of Light too.

But after negative reviews for his Spring 2012 collection and lukewarm comments for his Fall 2012 collection, West decided not to stage a show for Spring 2013.

Unisex clothing lines can be tricky to execute, but they’ve been popular among celebrities in recent years. Chloë Sevigny presented a “men’s unisex” clothing line in 2009, and Jennifer Farley of Jersey Shore fame had plans to create a unisex line in 2010.

Dolce & Gabbana Closes Its Stores in Protest

By Justin Fenner

Source: Instagram user StefanoGabbana

If you thought all the drama stemming from Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana’s tax evasion case was over, think again. This morning, citizens of Milan woke up to find all of Dolce & Gabbana‘s stores – which include boutiques, cafes, and restaurants – closed in protest against some strong words from the city of Milan’s Councillor for Commerce Franco D’Alfonso. The shops, whose windows bear signs that say “CLOSED FOR INDIGNATION,” are scheduled to be closed until Monday.

According to reports, D’Alfonso earlier this week referred to the two as “tax evaders” and said, “Italy does not need to be represented internationally by people like this.” He has since released a statement apologizing for those words, saying they were “not given in an interview, but extrapolated from an informal conversation” and “certainly did not express the opinion of the administration.”

But the apology couldn’t quell an overwhelming response from Milan’s fashion community: Santo Versace – Donatella Versace’s brother and president of the family’s fashion house – wrote a newspaper column praising Dolce and Gabbana, calling them “national champions” who “fly the banner of Italy high around the world.” Valeria Gentile, who works for the brand, tweeted “13 years with you, I completely agree with your reasons and decisions, that concern all of us working in your big business.” And Anna Dello Russo showed her support by posting a photo of one closed store to her Instagram feed.

Dolce, Gabbana, and a number of executives from their fashion house were sentenced to jail time and ordered to pay fines in connection with a tax evasion case just last month. The two designers have always maintained their innocence, and plan to appeal the decision.

Although we can’t share it all with you just yet (darn spoilers!), we did sit down with some of our favorite judges to get all the scoop on the new season in advance of its premiere on Lifetime tonight. Will Model For Food: The Most Unexpected Endorsement Deals Yet

By Justin Fenner

Before you fly off the handle about the odd news that Alessandra Ambrosio has signed on as the face of Always Maxi Pads, consider that she’s far from the only fashion model to pose for something that wasn’t clothing, fragrance, or accessories.

Case in point: Naomi Campbell once helped hawk a luxury condo building in Russia, and Kate Upton is currently the face of a product she’ll probably never use: men’s razors from Gillette. So it really shouldn’t come as a surprise that Ambrosio has decided to back Always’s new Platinum Collection, which boasts a “silk-like top-sheet” and “superabsorbent gel” core.

A look at other models who’ve endorsed decidedly nonfashion products, here. …read more

Malgosia Bela Confesses She Was a "Selfish Freak" Before Having Her Son

By Justin Fenner

“It’s probably the only thing I’ve ever done right, is having my son,” says Polish model Malgosia Bela – star of Alexander Wang‘s Fall 2013 campaign – at the beginning of the brand’s Confessional video for this season. “And I never really thought about myself as a very selfish person. But then when I had my son, I realized all my life I had been a selfish freak.”

This revelation is the latest in a long line of confessions models have made in Wang’s series. (Just last season, Liberty Ross talked about exhibiting grace under pressure shortly after her husband, Rupert Sanders, was reportedly involved in an affair with Kristen Stewart.)

Bela also confessed that she knew next to nothing about the fashion industry before she got her start as a model. It was “something I had never even heard about before,” she says. “The only thing I knew was kind of connected to fashion was George Michael’s video for ‘Freedom.'”

A look at how far she’s come in the video, here. …read more

So in honor of the Victoria’s Secret Angel’s engagement to the Maroon 5 front man, we’re taking a look back at some of our favorite model-rocker pairings who are still making their relationships work.

Gianni Versace's Miami Home Is Going to Auction

By Justin Fenner

Good news for real estate moguls and fashion lovers alike: Casa Casuarina’s headed to the auction block. Originally listed for $125 million in June 2012 before being reduced to $75 million, bidding for the 10-bedroom Miami mansion will start the morning of September 17.

Want to get your hands on this gilded, mosaic beauty (which just so happens to feature a six-person shower)? Bidders must prove that they have $40 million in funds and will be required to escrow $3 million with the owner’s firm. Small price to pay for the storied site of Gianni Versace‘s infamous parties.

“Every room is a work of art,” said said Jill Eber, the real estate agent of the home’s current owner Peter Loftin, when the house was listed last year. “If the person buying it is not already a celebrity, it gives them instant celebrity status – if they want it.”

A look at the house that Versace built here in the gallery.

The Launer Traviata Handbag ($1,966), which had long been offered exclusively in black, has gotten in on the queen’s affinity for color and is now available in a rainbow of hues. Showcasing a new range of Summer colors (think: lavender, yellow, and even colorblock red, white, and blue) at The Coronation Festival, Launer owner Gerald Bodmer told the Telegraph, “We’ve left all the black in the showroom today.” Given her penchant for panache, we’re looking back at her best moments in coordination, in hopes that she’ll embrace the opportunity to embellish! …read more
