Adam Levine and Behati Prinsloo Are Engaged!

By Brittney Stephens

Adam Levine and Victoria’s Secret Angel Behati Prinsloo are engaged, People reports. The singer’s rep released a statement today, saying, “Adam Levine and his girlfriend Behati Prinsloo are excited to announce they are engaged to be married,” adding, “The couple recently reunited and Adam proposed this weekend in Los Angeles.”

Adam and Behati began dating in May 2012 and split earlier this year. Soon after, Adam was briefly linked to another Victoria’s Secret model, Nina Agdal – they were spotted at the end of June on vacation together in Los Cabos, Mexico, where they played volleyball and relaxed by the pool with friends. Though Nina and Adam may have parted ways, it definitely looks like Adam and Behati have reunited for good. Congratulations to the happy couple!

Divine Inspiration: Is the New Pope Having an Influence on Designers?

By Justin Fenner

Designers get their inspiration from all sorts of places, people, and ideas, but the latest muse to have an influence on the runway seems to have come from above. In her review of the recent collections shown in Rome, fashion critic Suzy Menkes points to Pope Francis as the reason so many designers turned out simple, conservative pieces that look like nothing so much as chic robes and vestments.

“It’s a whole new spirit in Rome, and this is evident when we have a new pope going back to real Christianity, which lately was far from the church,” said Silvia Venturini Fendi, who co-designs Fendi with Karl Lagerfeld. “People are looking for meaning, and the real meaning of fashion is as a tool to express yourself.”

But will people express themselves with conservative clothing inspired by the pope, who tends to wear simpler, more minimal garb than his Prada-clad predecessor? Or have we simply entered a period when many designers are creating more modernist clothing that’s easy to wear? Tell us what you think about this potential new trend by casting your vote below.

Tory Burch Reinvents Her Denim Line

By Leah Melby

Tory Burch has quickly cemented a spot on our list of favorite American sportswear designers, so it should come as no surprise that she’s turned her focus on that most U.S.A. of basics: denim. The brand’s website unveiled a revamped blue jean section this morning, with styles clearly marked by fit and cut. “Jeans are an all-time American classic – chic, utilitarian, and versatile,” Burch told us in an exclusive statement. “We focus on the perfect fit, cut, and wash so that every style looks and feels great.”

Looking to expand your denim repertoire? Tory Burch’s silhouettes include straight, bootcut (worn by models in the above image), cropped, skinny, and legging (worn in the below image) and are available in five different rinses. All styles retail between $185 and $225 and are available to shop now.

The Look of Love: Real-Life Couples in Ad Campaigns

By Justin Fenner

Christopher Bailey loves putting couples in his ads for Burberry, and the latest rumors from across the pond speculate that Wimbledon champion Andy Murray and his stylish girlfriend Kim Sears are in mind for the brand’s next campaign.

While the British house makes it a policy not to comment on its upcoming ads, a source told The Daily Mail that Murray and Sears are on the verge of becoming the next faces of the house. The brand already seems to like the two – they sat front row at Burberry’s Fall 2013 show in London last season, and they both wore Burberry to the Wimbledon Champion’s Dinner last week.

If the rumors are true, Murray and Sears won’t be the only couple to have starred in a fashion campaign – let alone a set of ads for Burberry. A look at some other significant others who have starred in campaigns, here. …read more

Cast Off: Which Sling Is Mariah's Most Glam?

By Randy Miller

Did you actually expect Mariah Carey to wear a plain, old, ordinary sling? Think again. Not only did the singer choose to glam up her medical accessory while in New York (in town to perform at the Major League Baseball All-Star Charity Concert), the singer took the stage in three distinctively decadent looks while nursing a dislocated shoulder.

To go with a jeweled cocktail dress, she added an equally sparkly cover (which she later swapped for a furry stole-like option), and when belting it out in a lace-up LBD, green feathers gave the songbird wings – well, one wing, at least.

While performing for the crowd, she asked, “We like it?” Not to correct a true diva, but we think the real question is: which do we like best?

Was This the Wedding of the Year?

By Randy Miller

It’s only August, and already Vogue Australia has dubbed it “the fashion wedding of the year.” Anyone who follows Caroline Sieber and Fritz von Westenholz’s pals on Instagram (which includes Derek Blasberg, Lauren Santo Domingo, and Julia Restoin Roitfeld) might find it hard to disagree. For those checking their feed, a stream of ultrastylish shots came flooding through this weekend when the Austrian stylist walked down the aisle in Vienna donning an off-the-shoulder Chanel Haute Couture creation. And since images of the affair were much easier to come by than an invitation, we’ve been feasting our eyes on visuals all afternoon – see the ones that made our album!

Behind the Scenes: Rihanna Takes Us Inside Her Design Studio

By Justin Fenner

“Whatever you really love, whatever makes you happy, that’s it,” Rihanna says wisely at the beginning of a behind-the-scenes video for her recent Budweiser campaign. “It doesn’t have to look good on somebody else, it just has to work for you.”

The singer delivers that proclamation while viewers watch her at work on her second career, designing clothing. Her collaboration with River Island has been a hit, and she credits her intense passion – for both style and music – as the key to her success.

“Whatever it is that you’re truly passionate about, you would automatically put 100 percent into that, and it would never feel like work,” she says.

Two behind-the-scenes looks at the making of the commercial, plus the 30-second ad itself, here. …read more

Costume Drama: Seven Designers Who Got in on the Act

By Randy Miller

Enter stage left: John Galliano. The infamous designer may be back on the fashion scene in an unexpected way! Speculation that Stephen Fry has tapped Galliano to create costumes for his upcoming production of Oscar Wilde’s The Importance Of Being Earnest has yet to be confirmed but is definitely gaining momentum.

The director, who is said to still be in early stages of talks and also considering Rolland Mouret and Sarah Burton, is certainly looking for a major impact when the costumes take stage at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane next year.

This wouldn’t be the first time theater looked to fashion’s showmanship for dressing performers (Galliano already lists stage credits on his résumé), so we’re looking back at some of the most spectacular onstage costumes designed by the runway’s most theatrical.

Did Vogue Crash the Set of Homeland For Claire Danes's Cover Shoot?

By Justin Fenner

Is that Claire Danes or her Homeland character, Carrie Mathison, on the cover of Vogue‘s August issue? Danes, who plays a CIA agent on the hit show, is so in character on the cover and in the pages of the magazine that it’s a little difficult to make the distinction.

It doesn’t hurt that her costar Damian Lewis, who plays Marine Nicholas Brody, has a guest spot in some of the pictures, making it look a little like photographer Annie Leibovitz showed up on the set with a camera and a rack of designer clothing. But in the coordinating interview, Danes told Vogue writer Elizabeth Rubin that even though she’s connected with her character, being on the highly charged political drama has “not really” changed how she thinks.

“I think growing up in New York in a very liberal environment, I confused jingoism with patriotism, and that mistake has been corrected as I’ve reconsidered what the potential cost of serving our country can be,” Danes said. “But I don’t think I’ve become more of a political beast.”

If you need any more proof of Danes’s power as an actor, take a look at more photos from her Vogue shoot here. …read more

Celebrate Bastille Day With 25 Modern French Muses

By Christina Perez

“With French women, you first see the woman, and then you see the clothes,” Carine Roitfeld has said when describing the essence of French style. “It’s more the way you mix the clothes and how you move, how you open your bag, how you cross your legs – just little things that make a difference.”

Roitfeld makes it sound simple, but that perfect mix of irreverence, glamour, sex appeal, and slouch? Easier said than done. “It’s the fantasy of the entire world of women, even French women, to be the perfect Parisienne,” Le Figaro columnist Bertrand de Saint Vincent told The New York Times.

Elusive, yes, but not impossible. Brigitte Bardot did it. Jane Birkin, too. And while there’s no denying the allure of those indelible dames, they’re not the only ones. In honor of Bastille Day, check out 25 totally modern French femmes who somehow embody that certain je nais se quoi to a T.
