Guacamelee "Diablo's Domain" DLC Available Now

Guacamelee’s “El Diablo’s Domain” DLC, which adds a new level as well as three more character costumes, is available today for $2.99 as a cross-buy PSN download.

Developer DrinkBox Studios describes the El Infierno level as one where players battle “skeletal enemies in the bureaucratic nightmare of the Devil’s domain, where tortured souls are given never-ending paperwork.” So that sounds rough.

    The three new costumes are:

  • El Portero – A soccer goalie with a keen eye for style and a devastating throw
  • Alebrije – Harness the awesome power of these dream creatures to deal epic destruction, but players beware of the massive damage they will sustain themselves

You got some Twitch in my Raptr

Twitch, a video streaming website used mostly for gaming, is turning every game session into a “Let’s Play” event that you can broadcast to everyone. It only makes sense that it would find its way into as much gaming related stuff as possible—thus it squeezes into Raptr, a desktop app that works as a bridge between web content and gaming while also acting as a gamer’s social network.

Raptr manages Steam, Xbox Live and PSN accounts to keep track of all the games you own, the stats that comes with them and the time you’ve spent in them. From all of this you are ranked and awarded with achievements and rewards.

Starting Thursday, July 18 Raptr will allow you to stream straight to your Twitch account and manage the channel from in game.

“A goal of Twitch is to be wherever gamers are, whether it’s on laptops and handheld devices or integrated into gaming consoles and software. By bringing live streaming functionality at the touch of a button to the Raptr Desktop App, it’s one more step in achieving this ubiquity for our brand while attracting a new batch of broadcasters from Raptr’s passionate community,” Twitch CEO Emmett Shear said.

Wager PlayStation Trophies to Win Rare Items

During E3, Sony unleashed its Greatness Awaits trailer packed full of references to both first party and third party games. It’s a fun video to watch, and you can see it below.

Well, Sony is upping the ante with its trailer by conducting an auction to give away a bunch of the rare, one-of-a-kind items from the commercial. Better yet, the auction isn’t conducted with actual currency. No, your Gold Trophies will be used to win prizes, instead.

In the video above, you can see some of the items you can win by wagering Gold Trophies at this website called the Bid For Greatness. You’ll need to login with your PSN account at that website, and different items – all 15 of them – will be auctioned off over the next couple of weeks.

Always On: Microsoft Xbox Live Subscriptions Up to 46M, Will Never Be Free

    By Paul Tassi, Contributor

There’s been some debate about whether or not will try to compete with on a more direct level by going after one of their competitor’s best features: free online play. PSN has always been free while Xbox Live Gold is a dramatically more pricier option at $60 a year. Might Microsoft do away with that fee for their next-gen console, the mysterious Durango?

    Canadian PlayStation Gamers Get Settlement

Multiple sources have provided IGN with e-mails they received today from Sony Entertainment Network entitled “PSN-SOE-Canada Settlement.” In short, it appears that any PlayStation gamer directly affected by the prolonged PSN outage in 2011 will be eligible for some (minor) compensation.

Any resident of Canada who had an account on PlayStation Network before May 15, 2011 is eligible. Anyone who created an account thereafter is not eligible. This class action settlement, according to the e-mail, is the result of a settlement that still needs to receive “final approval” from The Ontario Superior Court of Justice.

Dear Sony: Please Fix the PlayStation Store

The PlayStation Network has gotten a bad rap from many corners of the gaming realm. Some of the criticism is well-deserved – after all, the PSN did get knocked offline for three weeks in 2011 — but other criticism, not so much. The CrossMediaBar (XMB) isn’t nearly as difficult to navigate as people say, the online gaming experience is mostly indistinguishable from PlayStation’s rival on a game-to-game basis, and party chat really isn’t the be-all, end-all of the online gaming world.

But for all of that, the PlayStation Network experience is mired with and bogged down by incessant maintenance periods, slow download speeds and a litany of never-ending firmware updates. If you use PlayStation 3 (or PlayStation Vita) regularly, you’ve gotten used to this. It’s the PlayStation ecosystem’s very own Stockholm Syndrome between the company and its consumers. We just deal with everything and sometimes even make excuses for any encountered issue (PlayStation Network is free!).

PSN Maintenance Scheduled For April 15th

Sony has revealed that the PlayStation Network will undergo “routine maintenance” on Monday, April 15th. The maintenance spans from 8am PT (11am ET) and runs through 8pm PT (11pm ET), a period of 12 hours.

“If you attempt to sign-in during this period, you may receive a maintenance notification when attempting to access PSN,” Sony states in a note on its forums. “The PlayStation Store, PlayStation Home and Account Management will not be available during the maintenance period. However, you WILL be able to access online play and apps provided that you have signed in to the Network at some point between now and the time of the maintenance.”

    Flashback HD Remake Announced

Ubisoft has announced that a HD remake of classic action adventure game Flashback will be available on PSN and XBLA later this year.

To celebrate the title’s 20th anniversary, the original creator of the game has re-rendered it in 3D using the Unreal engine, though you’ll still be playing in 2D. New voice acting has also been provided.

Flashback will follow the tale of familiar hero Conrad, returning to save humanity from an invasion of alien Morphs. To get an idea of what to expect from the game, check out the reveal trailer below.

Is This PSN’s Downloadable Answer to WWE?

When tiny European studio Serious Parody said it wanted to show me its upcoming PSN-exclusive title 5 Star Wrestling, I wasn’t sure what to expect. Would this be a realistic wrestling game, or would it be one that prides itself on over-the-top, WWE-like antics? Well, the answer is certainly the latter, because the 15-man team at Serious Parody has put together a game very much designed to catch the attention of wrestling fans that are into the show of it all, just as much as they’re into the technical aspects of the sport.

Stealth Bastard Coming to PlayStation 3, PS Vita

Stealth Bastard isn’t only a game with a rather unusual (and awesome) title; it’s also the next indie game that’s coming to both PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita. Sony has revealed that that the PC game will be coming to its platforms this Summer.

Stealth Bastard comes by way of Curve Studios – the guys who brought you the under-the-radar quirky PSN game Explodemon! — and is described as an “outrageously devious stealth-puzzle-platformer.”

The game contains eight worlds with 10 levels each, in addition to a full level editor, leaderboards and more. Interestingly, levels in the game take “anywhere between 30 seconds and 10 minutes to complete,” making it seem like the game would be especially cool to have on the Vita… if it’s any good, that is.
