BioShock Vita Could Still Happen

Irrational has broken its silence on the Vita iteration of BioShock. Speaking at a BioShock Infinite preview event in Los Angeles this week, BioShock Infinite creative director Ken Levine gave a small glimmer of hope to fans of Sony’s handheld, commenting that the Vita game could still be in the cards but that it’s currently out of his control.
“That is in the hands of business people right now,” Levine told IGN. “It’s something I’m still interested in, and people ask me that all the time. Right now I’m just sort of waiting to see what the business people come up with, and that’s sort of out of my hands at this point. That’s something that I think has a lot of potential. The game idea we have has a lot of potential. It’s just a question of Continue reading…

What’s New For DreamWorks Animation?

It was revealed in September that Fox sealed a deal to take over from Paramount Pictures as the distributor of upcoming films from DreamWorks Animation. The plan is to release three films a year, for a total of 12 CG-animated films over 4 years, beginning next year.
IGN had the opportunity to head over to the Fox lot recently for a special event previewing DWA‘s 2013 slate.
They are as follows:

The Croods for March 22, 2013.

Turbo for July 19, 2013.

Mr. Peabody & Sherman for November 1, 2013.

We were treated to both full sequences and several clips of the animation in various stages of completion, with the directors on hand to fill in the story gaps. The projects each had a distinct feel and tone and I imagine that (despite the fact that they are all ultimately family films) they will appeal to a variety of audiences.

The Dark Knight Rises Blu-ray Review

It’s truly the end of an era as the final film in Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight Trilogy hits Blu-ray just in time for the holiday season. I’ll say up front that I loved this movie and wholeheartedly agree with the official IGN review from the film’s release. It’s got some structural problems that aren’t befitting of the typically tight filmmaking of Nolan, but in the end the thematic integrity, strong character dynamics, and gorgeous cinematography make up the difference in spades.
While the movie’s Blu-ray release isn’t an all-encompassing collection of great special features that celebrate the trilogy’s conclusion, it’s still a solid purchase that should please most Nolan Bat-fans.

Nintendo Direct Incoming

Nintendo has announced that a new Nintendo Direct will be taking place tomorrow morning for North America. It will provide information on upcoming Wii U and 3DS games, and will start at 9:00am PST. We’ll be covering the broadcast as it happens, so tune in to IGN early tomorrow for all the details.
We still don’t know exactly what games will be touched on during the broadcast, though it’s notable that a Japanese counterpart has yet to be announced. As such, it’s very possible we’ll find out some release dates for games that have already come out in Japan, like Animal Crossing: New Leaf and Fire Emblem: Awakening. We could possibly also get an update on when Wii U’s Nintendo TVii service will be available, and perhaps even a release date for games like Pikmin 3 and The Wonderful 101.

Is The Last of Us Coming Out This Spring?

Sony has responded to IGN for comment. “We haven’t announced any release date,” Sony told us. “Walmart is speculating.”
The IGN readers strike again. This time, a tip has come from George Hernandez, who sent us a “Reservation Card” from Wal-Mart for the most eagerly awaited PlayStation 3 exclusive of them all: The Last of Us.
On the cardboard holding the card, pictured below, it says that The Last of Us is set for release in the Spring of 2013. An asterisk next to it can be seen noting that the date “is subject to change.”

New Tomb Raider is the Start of an “Origin Series”

In an interview with IGN, Tomb Raider’s creative director Noah Hughes has spoken about the future of Crystal Dynamics’ younger Lara as the studio’s Tomb Raider reboot nears release.
The new Tomb Raider chronicles Lara’s first adventure, seeing her grow from frightened, shipwrecked survivor to toughened adventurer – but her development doesn’t just stop there, says Noah. “We envision carrying forward from here, rather than this being a brief detour into her origins,” he says. “We want to start this adventure here and carry it on… that’s not to say we wouldn’t skip a year here or there, but we started this with the idea of continuity and building upon .”
Asked whether this meant we’d be seeing more of this new Lara, Hughes was unambiguous: “I look at this as an origin series rather than an origin story. By the end of Continue reading…
