Best oil to use…

By Gunguy45

Ok…have a pretty nice 20 floor fan for repair. Similar to this….Ventamatic 20 in. High-Velocity Floor Fan-HVFF 20UPS at The Home Depot In fact I think it’s the exact same one.

Starts with a push but otherwise would hum and barely move. Pulled the motor apart and apparently the is a bushing pressed in to the end that gets the most pressure. It appears to have some sort of foam (like a small engine foam filter) in the little cup and I’m guessing that the rotor shaft protrudes far enough that it picks up a little lube.

I don’t have any electric motor oil.

I have pneumatic tool oil, P/S fluid, brake fluid, ATF, 5W-20, 10W-40, and 2 cycle oil.

What would you use?

Do fans like this have a cap normally? I know the real big ones do. Can’t take the switch box apart to see as they used TA type screws.

Boeing Wins Big Order Commitment From Turkish Airlines

By Rich Smith, The Motley Fool

Filed under:

When Turkish Airlines announced last month that it had just placed its largest airplane order ever with Airbus, Boeing investors couldn’t have been pleased. So perhaps today’s news will suit them better: On Tuesday, Turkish Airlines announced it will also be buying planes from Boeing.

According to Boeing, TA announced today that it has committed to order:

  • 40 Boeing 737 MAX 8 airliners.
  • 10 larger 737 MAX 9s.
  • 20 next-generation 737-800s.

Adding to the good news, TA took out options to purchase 25 737 MAX 8s at a later date.

None of these orders are yet set in stone, but Boeing is working toward completing the deal, which it says is worth “$6.9 billion at list prices,” or even $9.4 billion including the optioned MAX 8s.

The order isn’t quite as big as the one Airbus won last month, but it’s a whole lot better than nothing, and it helped to lift Boeing shares 0.5% in Tuesday trading. Boeing closed at $87.21.

Video: SRT's Ralph Gilles addresses the infamous <i>Motor Trend</i> Viper vs. ZR1 test

By Jeremy Korzeniewski

Filed under:

In one of the most interesting roundtable discussions we’ve seen in quite some time, the boys from Motor Trend, along with pro racing driver Randy Pobst, sat down with SRT head honcho Ralph Gilles to discuss the 2014 Viper. And the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1, naturally. As you may remember, Motor Trend has filmed two videos pitting the latest Viper from SRT against the standard-bearing ZR1, with the Viper losing the first battle but barely eking out a victory with the upgraded TA model in the second.

A few interesting tidbits sneak out regarding the Viper, such as the fact that an ACR model isn’t ready “yet,” as well as the story of how the TA model came into existence after the first test by Motor Trend. Apparently, that test also resulted in a slight softening of the regular Viper’s suspension for production. Interestingly, Gilles doesn’t seem ready to admit defeat even in that first testing session, saying that the Viper used by MT was a pre-production model and that it had been out of alignment – that said, he does offer up an apology of sorts for “throwing gas on the fire” on social networks after the video hit the web.

Moving away from the Viper toward the end of the discussion, Gilles touches on the new Camaro Z28 and mentions that “the Challenger is under the knife as we speak… and we’re going to come with an answer to [the Z28] and an answer for our friends at Ford.” That sounds mighty intriguing… though Gilles also admits that a Cuda isn’t coming “anytime soon,” but that it is “a couple years out” on a different platform than the Challenger. Fortunately, it sounds like the next-generation of the Challenger SRT will make an appearance in New York in 2014.

There are plenty more interesting tidbits in the video, so we suggest you take about 20 minutes of at the end of your day to watch it yourself. Scroll down below to watch it, along with the two MT videos comparing the Viper and ZR1 at Laguna Seca.

New York: 2014 SRT Viper TA attacks Manhattan [w/video]

By Jeffrey N. Ross

2014 SRT Viper TA live on stage at 2013 New York Auto Show

Filed under:

As if the 2013 SRT Viper GTS hasn’t stirred up enough excitement, SRT has created a more specialized version of the car designed to attack any track. On display at the New York Auto Show, the 2014 Viper TA has been enhanced for even better track duty, but production will be limited to just 33 units when it goes on sale later this year.

Obvious changes to SRT‘s flagship performance car include upgraded Brembo brakes, a carbon fiber x-brace under the hood and carbon fiber front and rear spoilers – the latter aero changes providing about 300 pounds of additional downforce at speed. Oh, and if you didn’t notice, the car will only be offered in this eye-blazing Crusher Orange paint job with black, lightweight wheels wrapped in Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires. The black-only interior gets similar contrasting orange stitching all over to bring some color indoors.

Less obvious changes include a revised two-mode Bilstein suspension that is firmer than the standard Viper GTS to begin with, and has a “smaller spread between the modes,” suggesting that even though the car is road-legal, it’s likely to be a pretty extreme ride. Asis the case with “lesser” Vipers, the TA relies on the 8.4-liter V10 to churn out 640 horsepower and 600 pound-feet of torque. Scroll down to watch a new video of the TA and to read the official press release.

TravelCenters of America Completes Its 1,000 th on-Island Bulk Def Dispenser Installation and $100 Million Investment in Fuel Islands

WESTLAKE, Ohio–(BUSINESS WIRE)– TravelCenters of America LLC (TravelCenters), operator of the TA® and Petro Stopping Centers® travel center brands, has announced the completion of installation of its 1,000th bulk on-island Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) dispenser.

The on-island installations include an industry-best dispensing technology that provides professional drivers with a more efficient fueling process. Called the “DEF+1″, the dispensers pump both diesel fuel and DEF. Drivers can authorize diesel and DEF transactions at the same time at the same dispenser, pump both products in any order, and pay for both fills at the same time. The “DEF+1″ dispenser also saves time because it eliminates the need for drivers to leave the diesel island to accommodate both fills. In addition, drivers with refrigerated trailers can dispense diesel to their vehicle, diesel to their refrigeration unit and DEF to their DEF reservoir, in a single transaction without leaving the fuel island.

“Our installation of on-island DEF dispensers not only uses the latest, most efficient dispensing equipment available, we also took the time to eliminate product and equipment failure risk for drivers by using underground storage and piping. In addition, our DEF installations were completed hand-in-hand with the installation of new, higher-speed diesel dispensers; our investment in these technologies, totaling about $100 million, was made to serve our customers better than anyone else on the interstate,” said Tom O’Brien, President and CEO of TravelCenters.

TravelCenters expects that, with the exception of two sites where local zoning has delayed completion of planned installation, 100% of its operated locations will offer on-island bulk DEF by the end of May 2013, and that all locations will offer on-island bulk DEF by the end of June 2013. For a complete listing of locations with on-island DEF, please see the TA and Petro websites at www.tatravelcenters.com and www.petrotruckstops.com or the TruckSmart® mobile app.

SRT Viper TA (Time Attack) Is Ralph Gilles’ Answer to the ZR1: Video

By Darryl

2014-SRT-Viper-TA

With every new automotive product comes the fine-tuned scrutiny of publications when they put them to the test. Case in point, Motor Trend recently put the new SRT Viper through its paces and pitted it against the current Corvette ZR1. They took it to the infamous Mazda Laguna Seca Raceway where the ZR1 came away with the over-all win at helm of the ever-so-consistent driver Randy Pobst.

The results, despite Randy Pobst hinting at his “…hard time with cars that don’t handle well,” ended up in a preverbal up-setter on the SRT side with SRT CEO Ralph Gilles in an upset state of mind. As an answer by Gilles and his team, SRT shot back in the end with an updated Viper dubbed the Viper TA, TA standing for Time Attack. The SRT Viper TA looks to be a track-focused version standard with the Carbon Fiber Aero Package (adds a functional two-way front splitter and rear wing adding 300 pounds of downforce at 150mph, re-worked suspension (different spring rates), the Track Package taken a step further (lighter brakes about twice as thick, lighter matte wheels, Pirelli P Zero Corsa performance tires) and it even gets emblem stickers to save weight. Over-all, the Viper TA is said to be about 11 pounds lighter than the base SRT Viper.

To conclude, the Viper TA put the smack-down on the track as Randy Pobst took the wheel setting a production car record around the Laguna Seca Raceway, beating the Corvette ZR1’s time by just .08 seconds.

Hit up the Motor Trend video below for the full recap and test run of the SRT Viper TA, which there will be only 33 fine examples produced and sold in 2013 at a price of about $116,000.

Official: Viper TA track-special unveiled to avenge loss to ZR1 [w/video]

By Jeremy Korzeniewski

SRT Viper TA

Filed under:

Ready for round two? Friend of Autoblog and Motor Trend personality Jonny Lieberman has helped SRT whip the covers off the new Viper TA (which stands for Time Attack, apparently) by putting professional racecar driver Randy Pobst behind the wheel and pointing him at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca with cameras in tow.

What those cameras captured includes plenty of footage of a Crusher Orange SRT Viper TA running amok at The Corkscrew and generally bludgeoning the race track into submission. Updates to the Viper package for TA duty include bigger brakes from Brembo, a Carbon Fiber Aero Package that includes a massive rear wing and a Track Package that boasts better wheels and Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires.

Weight savings are found via a new carbon fiber X-brace underhood along with badges that have been replaced with stickers (seriously). Perhaps most importantly, the TA comes equipped with the two-mode remote reservoir shocks seen on the more expensive GTS. While the GTS offers Street and Track modes, the TA goes a step further with Smooth and Rough settings – no Street mode here.

The result? According to Motor Trend, the TA is the fastest Viper it’s ever tested, reaching 60 miles per hour in 3.3 seconds and a quarter-mile ET of 11.3 seconds at 129.3 mph. But is the TA good enough to beat the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1, the car that beat the Viper the last time MT put them together at Laguna Seca? Scroll down below to find out, and join us in waiting for round three, when Chevy releases the next generation of its Corvette for the track.

Turkish Airlines Place Huge Airbus Order

By Rich Smith, The Motley Fool

Filed under:

European plane maker, EADS subsidiary, and Boeing nemesis Airbus announced over the weekend that it has signed up Turkish Airlines for its largest-ever airplane sale to a Turkish customer. TA intends to buy as many as 117 A320-Family aircraft, including 25 conventional-engine A321ceos, four “re-engined” A320neos, and 53 A321neos initially. It’s furthermore taking out options on an additional 35 A321neo aircraft.

That’s $9.3 billion worth of airplanes at advertised list prices (which, admittedly, no one ever pays), even if the options are never actually exercised. If they are, the transaction value soars past $13.4 billion. Either way, the order promises to more than double the size of TA‘s Airbus fleet, which already includes 75 A320 aircraft.

In a press release announcing the sale, Airbus Chief Operating Officer for Customers John Leahy confirmed that it has now received more than 2,000 “NEO” orders in the two years since it began offering the re-engined planes for sale. Leahy credited the NEO planes’ “15% fuel saving and the widest cabin in its class” for helping Airbus to win TA‘s business.

The Poncho is dead. Long live the Poncho. Like certain other reoccurring personal maladies, the aftermarket community simply can’t let the Trans Am go without another flare up. The guys at Trans Am Depot have worked up a quick commercial for their newest creation: The 2013 Trans Am Hurst Edition, and it watches pretty much like you’d expect it to. The footage is comprised of just about every TA male fantasy you can conceive of, from Daisy Dukes and white tank tops to tramp stamps, bikinis and ice cream cones. There simply aren’t words for what you’ll see below.

Of course, we like our T-Tops as much as the next guy. If you like what you see in the videos, you can pick up your very own TA by heading over to the Trans Am Depot site. The guys even have Chevrolet Camaro-based versions of the Pontiac GTO if the ’77 TA treatment is too much for your tastes. Enjoy, but don’t say we didn’t warn you.

U.S. equity markets opened lower this morning but never managed to hold a position in positive territory. Despite a significant drop in U.K. industrial production in February, the country’s trade deficit was narrow than expected and the FTSE 100 index actually rose. Elsewhere in Europe the few data points that were released today did not move markets much one way or the other. In Asia, the Chinese government tried to persuade investors (not altogether successfully) that downturns in yesterday’s data reports were mainly due to the lunar new year. In the U.S., there was no early morning data and few earnings reports of note. A report on job gains and losses was mostly positive (more coverage here), and the afternoon auction of 3-year Treasury notes went off at a yield of 0.411%, identical with the February auction.

The U.S. dollar index rose 0.02% today, now at 82.594. The GSCI commodity index is down fractionally at 648.72, with commodities prices mostly mixed again today. WTI crude oil closed up 0.5% today, at $92.54 a barrel, following the release of the EIA’s short-term energy outlook (more coverage here). Brent crude trades down 0.6% at $109.61 a barrel. Natural gas is down 0.3% today at about $3.64 per million BTUs. Gold settled up 0.9% today at $1,591.70 an ounce.

The unofficial closing bells put the DJIA up less than 2 points to 14,450.06 (0.01%), the NASDAQ fell more than 10 points (-0.32%) to 3,242.32, and the S&P 500 fell -0.24% or nearly 4 points to 1,552.48.

There were a several analyst upgrades and downgrades today, including Best Buy Co. Inc. (NYSE: BBY) raised to ‘buy’ at Goldman Sachs; RadioShack Inc. (NYSE: RSH) cut to ‘sell’ at Goldman Sachs; Pandora Media Inc. (NYSE: P) started as ‘outperform’ at Pac-Crest; Apple Inc. How do I count strings on each line?

By Manchesterpaul

Hi

Im a very inexperienced bioinformatician

I have a large DNA file with about 10000 lines of sequence and need to count the occurrence of TA for each line

for example in the file

Code:

TACGCGCGATA
TATATATA
GGCGCGTATA

I would like to get an output like:

Code:

2
4
2

I have tried various grep and awk commands but can only get total number of TA in the whole file

many thanks
