BofA Merrill Launches Dodd-Frank Payments Solutions for Financial Institution Clients

NEW YORK–(BUSINESS WIRE)– Bank of America Merrill Lynch, a leader in global payments, today announced the formal launch of a set of solutions for financial institution clients to address new requirements for conducting cross-border payments as outlined by the Dodd-Frank Remittance Regulation 1073 (DF-1073). The solutions, which were initially developed last year, have been enhanced over the last six months with customizable features and will be updated whenthe Final Rule is published by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

“Bank of America Merrill Lynch is proud to be at the forefront of developing DF-1073 solutions that will help our clients not only evolve with the marketplace and expand their global payment business, but importantly serve their own retail customers as comprehensively and seamlessly as possible,” said Paul Simpson, head of Global Transaction Services (GTS).

“The initiative combines the considerable expertise – including systems and technology – of the Consumer Bank, with that of our wholesale business, which has a long history of operating in overseas markets and delivering payments around the world,” Simpson added.

Bank of America’s Consumer Bank is one of the largest in the country, serving 53 million individuals and small businesses across the United States. Through close collaboration with the Consumer Bank, Bank of America Merrill Lynch created optimal solutions for DF-1073 that leverage the company’s knowledge of best practices in retail banking along with the wholesale bank’s expertise in cross-border payments and foreign bank payment practices.

The lead products addressing DF-1073 requirements are FXtransact White Label and Bank of America Merrill Lynch Information Exchange for Payments. These solutions provide clients comprehensive access to fee, tax, availability date information, and disclosure capabilities. The solutions also help clients reduce costs by improving straight-through processing and by removing manual processes.

As one of the first banks in 2012 to develop a Dodd-Frank offering, the company has on-boarded a number of financial institutions – from large national banks to small community banks. “We are working with several clients of various sizes and degrees of complexity to solve for the new requirements of Dodd-Frank 1073,” said Greg Murray, head of U.S. Dollar Wire and Clearing Products in GTS. “By adopting our solutions, our clients have the ability to make payments within the new regulatory framework in more than 140 currencies, including the U.S. dollar, across 200 countries and territories.”

Garmin’s New Active Traffic Systems Offer Increased Power, Range

OLATHE, Kan.–(BUSINESS WIRE)– Garmin International Inc., a unit of Garmin Ltd. (NAS: GRMN) , the global leader in satellite navigation, today announced the GTS 825 Traffic Advisory System (TAS) and the GTS 855 Traffic Alert and Collision Avoidance System (TCAS I), offering improved performance and range. The GTS 825 and 855 each offer 400 watts of transmit power, and 40 and 80 nautical miles of interrogation range, respectively. All Garmin traffic systems combine active and passive surveillance data to pinpoint specific traffic threats, and use Garmin’s patented CLEAR CAS™ technology to correlate ADS-B targets, providing pilots with the most comprehensive traffic picture possible.

“The new line of GTS traffic systems offers the best performance for its class and price point. Now with increased transmit power and range, the GTS series provides even broader situational awareness and allows the pilot to visualize more potential traffic targets that could pose a threat,” said Carl Wolf, Garmin’s vice president of aviation sales and marketing.

There are four distinct system configurations for the GTS series, and each model creates a 360-degree zone of detection around the aircraft so pilots can see and identify targets in their airspace that may pose a risk. The GTS 800 TAS is a lower-price system offering 40 watts of transmit power, which has been validated for a range of up to 22 nautical miles. The GTS 825 TAS delivers 400 watts of transmit power and up to 40 nautical miles of interrogation range. The GTS 855 TCAS I features the same 400 watt performance, plus up to 80 nautical miles of interrogation range, and also meets the FAA’s TCAS I certification criteria. Finally, the GTS 8000 is also available to meet the FAA’s TCAS/ ACAS II certification criteria. The GTS 825 and 855 systems are field upgradable to the higher performance models.

All GTS series products come standard with Garmin’s patented CLEAR CAS (Correlated Location Enhanced ADS-B Receiver Collision Avoidance System) technology, a hybrid system that provides real-time information that is totally independent of radar-based air traffic control. CLEAR CAS combines active and passive surveillance data, including 1090 MHz Extended Squitter ADS-B data (ADS-B Out required). In the future, the system will be able to provide enhanced information about a target aircraft including flight ID, altitude, velocity and direction on select displays.

Traffic information from the GTS series is displayed on the map page or traffic page of Garmin display systems, as well as select third-party displays, using TAS/TCAS symbology. Additional …read more

Official: Viper TA track-special unveiled to avenge loss to ZR1 [w/video]

Ready for round two? Friend of Autoblog and Motor Trend personality Jonny Lieberman has helped SRT whip the covers off the new Viper TA (which stands for Time Attack, apparently) by putting professional racecar driver Randy Pobst behind the wheel and pointing him at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca with cameras in tow.

What those cameras captured includes plenty of footage of a Crusher Orange SRT Viper TA running amok at The Corkscrew and generally bludgeoning the race track into submission. Updates to the Viper package for TA duty include bigger brakes from Brembo, a Carbon Fiber Aero Package that includes a massive rear wing and a Track Package that boasts better wheels and Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires.

Weight savings are found via a new carbon fiber X-brace underhood along with badges that have been replaced with stickers (seriously). Perhaps most importantly, the TA comes equipped with the two-mode remote reservoir shocks seen on the more expensive GTS. While the GTS offers Street and Track modes, the TA goes a step further with Smooth and Rough settings – no Street mode here.

The result? According to Motor Trend, the TA is the fastest Viper it’s ever tested, reaching 60 miles per hour in 3.3 seconds and a quarter-mile ET of 11.3 seconds at 129.3 mph. But is the TA good enough to beat the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1, the car that beat the Viper the last time MT put them together at Laguna Seca? It’s easy to play the “Would you rather have a New X or an Old Y with a bunch of upgrades?” game more often than we care to admit, but the crew at Car and Driver have taken bench racing to the next level with their latest video. In it, the magazine pits a brand-new 2014 SRT Viper against a highly modified 1997 Dodge Viper GTS. There are 16 years between the time this particular GTS rolled off the production line and when the new car bowed, but that doesn’t mean the old snake’s owners have been sitting on their hands.

Thanks to a spate of modifications, the GTS offers up a better power to weight ratio than the new machine, but is that enough to overcome the technological leap forward represented by the 2014 Viper? We won’t spoil it for you. You’ll just have to check out the full clip below for yourself.

Rumormill: BMW may be planning AMG Black Series competitors

Word has it BMW has its heart set on giving the Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Black Series a run for its money in the US. According to BimmerBoost.com, the German automaker has been making more and more noise about offering a number of specialty models aimed specifically at enthusiasts. While at the Detroit Auto Show this year, the BMW PR machine revealed 2013 will be “an interesting year” and that buyers can expect one or two products aimed specifically at swiping buyers from the clutches of the C63 AMG Black Series. The news came courtesy of Automobile writer Marc Noordeloos’ Twitter machine.

Noordeloos reportedly interviewed several executives familiar with the M models while in Detroit, and says the M division would like to offer hardware like the M3 CSL, GTS or CRT to buyers here in the States. That sounds great to us, but saying something doesn’t make it true, and manufacturers rarely find it in their hearts to bring money-losing machines to our green shores. Still, that won’t stop us from crossing our fingers.
