Official: Lexus ES350 confirmed for Kentucky production starting in 2015

By Jeffrey N. Ross

Filed under:

Following Thursday’s report, Toyota has confirmed that production of the Lexus ES will move to its Georgetown, KY assembly plant starting in 2015. To accommodate the extra 50,000 units of capacity that the ES represents, Toyota will be investing $360 million in the plant and hiring 750 new workers.

In the previous report, sources stated that the state of Kentucky had offered Toyota as much as $146.5 million to move ES production to the Georgetown facility.

The press release, posted below, specifies that only the ES350 will be built in Kentucky, so it’s likely that the ES300h hybrid will continue to be built in Japan – where all ES models have been built since the car was introduced in 1989. Toyota’s Georgetown plant, which currently builds the Toyota Camry, will also be getting an expansion to its engine plant to produce more four-cylinder engines at a cost of $30 million and will create an additional 80 jobs.

Report: Toyota offered $146.5 million to build Lexus ES in Kentucky

By Jeffrey N. Ross

Filed under:

Toyota posted a media advisory yesterday saying that Akio Toyoda, president of Toyota, and Jim Lentz, CEO of Toyota North America, would be making a production announcement tomorrow in New York City, and Automotive News reports that the automaker will be announcing a plan to domestically produce the Lexus ES. According to the report, numerous plants are competing to build the ES in North America, and the State of Kentucky has offered the automaker up to $146.5 million to build the luxury sedan at the Georgetown, KY assembly plant.

If Georgetown gets the ES, which has been built in Japan since its debut in 1989, it would be built alongside the Toyota Camry, which is somewhat ironic since in our review of the 2013 Lexus ES350, we wrote that this ES finally says “goodbye to its Camry roots.” In order to get the whole amount offered, the article states that Toyota would have to invest $531.2 million and hire 570 full-time workers at the plant, which doesn’t sound all that unreasonable since the plant would require an additional 50,000 units of annual production, not to mention the fact that the Georgetown facility is already at its capacity for building the Camry.

GE Foundation Expands Commitment to Increasing Access to Healthcare with New Pilot Programs in Four Regions

GE Foundation increases its commitment to Developing Health™ in Chicago, Houston, Louisville and Los Angeles to nearly $5.5 Million

• Expands program’s impact on over one million people at more than 100 health centers

Developing Health new Community Health Center (CHC) pilot reaches across 23 centers

• Programs address cardiovascular disease, immunization, asthma and reducing ‘no-show’ rates

FAIRFIELD, Conn.–(BUSINESS WIRE)– More than 60 million Americans — nearly one in five — lack adequate access to primary care in their communities1. To respond to this challenge in 2009 the GE Foundation launched GE‘s Developing Health U.S., a multi-year $50 million program focused on cities where GE has a significant business presence. As of this year, the program has reached more than 30 cities, and includes more than 100 health centers, with a total investment of $37.4 million.

Today, the GE Foundation is further expanding its commitment by partnering with local non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to launch new pilot programs in Chicago, IL; Houston, TX; Louisville, KY; and Los Angeles, CA. Each pilot program addresses a region-specific health issue such as heart disease and diabetes, childhood immunization, asthma and respiratory disease management, and patient compliance and retention.

GE recognizes there is a critical need in the U.S. healthcare system and Developing Health seeks to fill the gap in access to quality care for underserved communities. With the help of health centers and key community partners,” said Bob Corcoran, president of GE Foundation, “these grants will help to break down barriers to access and reduce the suffering of families dealing with chronic and too often debilitating disease.”

These pilot programs will address a variety of pressing health issues in under-served regions:

  • In Chicago, the program focuses on evidence-based interventions for cardiovascular disease risk. Program interventions will include community-based health screenings, outreach, referrals to Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs), and follow-up and educational programs. The pilot will roll-out in conjunction with LISC Chicago and the Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern University in five health centers. GE Foundation will invest $250,000 over the next 12 months, bringing the Foundation’s total investment in health programs in the Chicago area to $1.5 million.
  • In Houston, GE Foundation has collaborated with the Immunization Partnership and Partners for Community Health to …read more

Video: Are World Heritage Sites Being Used To Train Russian Troops In The US?

By Suzanne Eovaldi

Are America’s treasured National Parks being co-opted by the New World Order under the guise of designating them World Heritage Sites, thus allowing foreign troops and United Nations agencies to take over our country in a soft coup d’etat? A blogger has photographed heavily equipped armored vehicles carrying the “Special Response Team” logo in and around the Great Smoky Mountains National Heritage site in Gatlinburg, TN. (1) ”It is a deadly serious piece of equipment never before used inside the US until now,” says the blogger “Sherrie” who then adds, “The vehicles don’t come more heavily armored.”

Sherrie has put up several pictures of these in-country tanks which she said she saw on and near Interstate 75 when she was traveling back roads near Winchester, Richmond, KY, and lists Rt. # 627 as an area of interest. “This spot is (around) the US Army Chemical Depot” which covers 14,000 acres in Kentucky backwoods,” the blogger says on the video which the Liberty web site is putting up for general viewing. She mentions chemical weapons involving 523 tons of nerve agents and shows aerial photography of train tracks going up to several buildings in this compound! “I’m not sure what they are,” she says, positing the notion of a possible FEMA camp in the Kentucky woods.

Now in addition to sighting of MRAP vehicles, “Sherrie” tells readers that “Russians were stopping and questioning people in the Gatlinburg, Smoky Mountain Parks region.” She quotes a high ranking individual in a local area state militia organization who she says she trusts as being truthful. The scenario developed when these apparently foreign troops wearing DHS uniforms with the Eagle insignia tried to enter Tennessee from Kentucky. “They were NOT Americans. . .appeared to be Russian or Eastern European!”

The Tennessee State Guard is being formulated as part of the 22 state Governors’ Militia Organization of volunteers which answers only to the Governors, not to the Federal government. (2) What has developed is the confiscation of equipment belong to National Guard Units nationwide. Trucks and other equipment sent to Iraq are not being replaced or returned to the states by the federal government because it is “too expensive” to transport the vehicles and equipment back into the country. This has prompted 22 governors to form State Militia Units paid for by the states and thus kept out of the reach of the federal government. (2)

Has the Division of Homeland Security partnered with the United Nations One World military apparatus with a sleight of hand operation known as World Heritage Site designation? The observant blogger lists these US treasures also as being so designated: Statue of Liberty, Everglades, Mammoth Cave, Yellowstone, Yosemite, all former National Parks. Folks, this designation and UN involvement coincides with the ten region DHS map of the United States! Has this under-the-radar give away of America already taken place, thus allowing the constitutionally prohibited onus of foreign troops being …read more

Authorities investigating KY fire that killed 7

Authorities were investigating the cause of a weekend house fire in the Appalachian foothills of Kentucky that killed a man, his pregnant fiancee and five children — two of whom were friends who were spending the night.

The Knox County coroner and state police have not yet identified the victims, but family members said the five children killed ranged in age from 10 months to 3 years.

Shannon Disney, a sister-in-law of one of the victims, said a relative who drove past the house at 7:45 a.m. Saturday noticed nothing unusual, but another who lives nearby saw smoke coming from it around 9 a.m.

Disney described the couple as devoted to the children, with their lives organized around bedtime and bath time. She said the woman had just gotten an ultrasound, and the couple was excited to plan for the birth, though they didn’t know yet whether it was a boy or girl.

Relatives raced to the house — owned by the Disney family in an area affectionately known as “Disneyland” because so many members of the family lived in that part of town. Despite their rescue efforts, all seven people inside died.

Gino Cima, the uncle of the man who died, said he arrived within minutes of hearing of the Saturday morning blaze and tried to rescue the family when he came upon the adults’ bodies.

“When I opened the screen door, she was laying at the door with her head to the door. And I pulled her out,” he said, speaking softly. “And about 2 feet from her laying the other way was (my nephew). And I went in and got him and pulled him out. But they was done gone. There wasn’t nothing I could do.”

He said he then ran to the front of the house to try to save the children.

“And that’s when they had the five babies laying out in the front yard,” he said.

Relatives said the nephew’s fiancée was the mother of three of the children who died. The other two children were siblings and friends of the family, visiting for the night for a sleepover, the relatives said.

Officials said the cause of the fire was under …read more

DA: Mom chased pot while twins, 3, died in fire

A Pittsburgh-area woman has been charged with involuntary manslaughter and other crimes for allegedly leaving her 3-year-old twins alone before they died in a fire, while she was trying to retrieve marijuana stolen by her 15-year-old daughter.

The attorney for 32-year-old Dalawna Berran-Lett says he’s still reviewing the charges filed Tuesday against the North Braddock woman, who remains in shock from burying her twins on Saturday.

The boys, Ky’heir (KY‘-heer) and Dy’heir (DY‘-heer) Arthur, died in the Jan. 4 fire. Investigators believe the boys started the fire while trying to cook something while Berran-Lett was gone for about 15 minutes trying to retrieve her marijuana.

Investigators say the boys nearly started a fire trying to cook ribs in December when they were left alone by Berran-Lett for about 20 minutes.
