Was Diane Kruger Having an Off Year?

By Randy Miller

Was 2013 not Diane Kruger‘s year? Vanity Fair may think so. Among the shocking omissions and additions to the annual International Best-Dressed List, the ultrastylish dresser was excluded after having ranked in 2012.

Which isn’t to say there weren’t some stellar dressers on the list, which happily includes Kerry Washington, Jenna Lyons, Dree Hemingway, Caroline Issa, Lara Stone, Charlize Theron, Stella Tennant, and Tabitha Simmons. Snubs (or decisions construed as such) aren’t uncommon when compiling a list – everyone’s got an opinion, after all – but a few names that appeared (or didn’t) made us sit up and take notice. …read more

Nicki Minaj’s Idol Outfit Tops Our Worst-Dressed List This Week (PHOTOS)

By The Huffington Post News Editors

Nicki Minaj stepped onto the stage of “American Idol” this week and jaws dropped. The “High School” rapper showed off what her mama gave her in an outfit that took the term “boob window” to the next level.

The MTV Movie Awards were earlier this week and celebrities flexed their style muscles. Unfortunately, many of them stumbled and ended up on our worst-dressed list, including Ke$ha, whose transparent hippie-inspired pants were outlandish, to say the least. Zoe Saldana and Kerry Washington both took risks at the awards, but the daring styles didn’t translate and ended up looking strange.

Check out those over-the-top looks, as well as more celebrities who made our week’s worst-dressed list. Do you agree with us?

Janet Mock Talks ‘Scandal,’ Black Women In Media With Melissa Harris-Perry

By The Huffington Post News Editors

Transgender advocate and writer Janet Mock joined Andrea Plaid, Heather McGhee, and Joy-Ann Reid on MSNBC’s “Melissa Harris-Perry” for a “Scandal” April 6 “watch party.”

Mock chimed in and discussed Kerry Washington‘s role as “Oliva Pope,” Shonda Rhimes’ work and the representations of black women in media.

“It’s an exhibition in the fact that trans people do have other interests than just being trans or having transitioned,” Mock wrote on her Tumblr page. “It was a pleasure to return to my giddy pop culture editor roots (with a touch of depth, right?!) and do it on such a powerful platform with one of my sheroes, Melissa Harris Perry.”

Independent Spirit Awards 2013 Red Carpet Was Such A Breath Of Fresh Air (PHOTOS)

By The Huffington Post News Editors

With stylists, hair dressers, makeup artists and the actors themselves feverishly prepping for the Oscars on Sunday, several Hollywood stars took a much-needed breather on Saturday afternoon for the 2013 Independent Spirit Awards.

The awards show, held at Santa Monica Beach, was a largely casual affair, with big names like Salma Hayek, Kerry Washington and Amy Poehler wearing casual day dressed in bright, cheery colors. Rashida Jones and Nina Dobrev even wore shorts (with high heels, but still).

The exception was Jennifer Lawrence, who showed up wearing a daringly sexy black ensemble by Lanvin that bared more skin than she’s shown at all the previous awards shows combined. Way to be, J-Law.

Django Unchained Toys Elicit Outrage

Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained has already been publicly criticized for its violence and alleged racism, but now the film’s merchandise has sparked even more controversy.

Earlier this year, NECA partnered with the Weinstein Company to make a series of retro eight-inch figurines depicting characters from the movie, including the likenesses of Jamie Foxx, Leonardo DiCaprio, Samuel L. Jackson, Kerry Washington and others.

These figures are currently being sold on Amazon, but Najee Ali, director of the advocacy group Project Islamic Hope, wants to change that. In a recent interview, he told AP that the collectibles are a “slap in the face of our ancestors” and wants them removed from the online market.
