Official: Ford hiring 800 more salaried workers than originally expected

By Damon Lowney

Ford US job creation infographic

Filed under:

Ford is on a roll this year, with excellent quarterly earnings and better-than-expected vehicle sales leading to 800 more job opportunities with the Blue Oval. In January, Ford announced that it wanted to hire 2,200 salaried employees, but, since then, that figure has been revised to 3,000, representing a 36-percent increase over original projections. About 1,500 of those jobs remain, 80 percent of which are technical professional positions.

“Engineers and technical professionals are in as much demand as our cars, trucks and SUVs,” says Felicia Fields, Ford Group Vice President for Human Resources. Helping to spur this job growth are increasing market share on both the West and East Coast and robust demand for the Ford Escape and F-150.

To find job candidates, Ford is reaching out to them via Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn, in addition to the company’s corporate career site. The Blue Oval is also ramping up its presence on college campuses.

One of Fords goals has been to create 12,000 hourly jobs in the US by 2015, and this latest announcement does alter that goal, Ford says, which is sitting the 75-percent mark since the company hired over 6,200 hourly employees last year. Learn more in the press release below.

Table Scripting

By Catori

Okay. I’ve been charged with an assignment to create tables.

I “Made” a manufacturing company called “Suit and Tie”. I need subdirectories for the company, using three departments: Human resources, Manufacturing, and Sales.

1) mkdir Suit_and_Tie
2) cd Suit_and_Tie
3) mkdir Human Resources
4) mkdir Manufacturing
5) mkdir Sales

After doing these commands, i proceed. I need three scripts in order to create tables for each sub directory. Each script should ask for the department name, and for that department, create 5 sales persons with ID number and Name(this whole assignment is metaphorical for practice).
I also need ten products sold: salesperson ID number (must come from sales persons), part number (must come from products manufactured), cost of Goods Sold (must come from products products manufactured), and Gross profit (sales Price-cost of goods sold).

How do i begin with these scripts? I can start with vi script[1-3], but I don’t know the commands to create a table that ask for the dept. name. Help!? I’ve googled all over for it!

Hormel Foods Receives Two AMI Environmental Achievement Awards

AUSTIN, Minn.–(BUSINESS WIRE)– Hormel Foods today announced it received two out of four possible American Meat Institute (AMI) Environmental Achievement Awards in the categories of environmental technology, outreach and training programs and resource conservation. The awards were presented at the AMI Conference on Worker Safety, Human Resources and the Environment in Kansas City, Mo., on March 20.

“We are honored to receive this recognition in the environmental technology, outreach and training programs category for our corporate headquarters expansion project, and in the resource conservation category for our water conservation efforts at Burke Corporation,” said Thomas E. Raymond, director of environmental sustainability. “These projects demonstrate our commitment to corporate responsibility and are a testament of the dedication and hard work of our outstanding team of employees.”

Through the awards program, AMI recognizes companies in four categories: environmental technology; outreach and training programs; pollution prevention; resource conservation; and social and economic sustainability. In addition to the Environmental Achievement Awards, all of the company’s eligible sites were recognized with AMI Environmental Management Systems Awards at the conference.

Corporate headquarters (Austin, Minn.) expansion project

The company’s corporate headquarters expansion achieved Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Gold Certification as a result of the sustainable design and construction practices employed.

The expansion area was designed and constructed to minimize energy and water usage. Energy savings were achieved through highly efficient heating, ventilation and air conditioning and lighting systems, and water savings were achieved through the use of ultra low flow fixtures and a gray water system that collects rain water and utilizes ground water from the foundation drainage system.

As a result, this project achieved a 46 percent energy reduction and 70 percent potable water reduction, and is expected to operate with utility costs 40 percent less than standard construction.

Burke Corporation (Nevada, Iowa) water conservation project

In September of 2008, Burke Corporation began implementing water conservation projects that they identified through their own internal observations as well as in collaboration with a government agency’s pollution prevention intern program. They also assembled a water conservation team as a subgroup of their environmental sustainability team.

Since that time, they have investigated and implemented automation and process changes, mechanical modifications, and resource conservation training to conserve water. While they …read more

Hungarian journalist asked to return state award

Hungary‘s Minister of Human Resources has asked a journalist to return a state award he received Friday after Israel and the United States complained about disparaging remarks he had made earlier about Gypsies and Jews.

Minister Zoltan Balog has said he made a mistake by giving the Mihaly Tancsis prize to Ferenc Szaniszlo, a former foreign correspondent who now has a show on right-wing Echo TV.

In 2011, Hungary‘s media authorities fined the station 500,000 forints ($2,200) because of Szanilo’s comments which, for example, said Gypsies — or Roma — were monkeys and social parasites.

In a letter to Szaniszlo released on his website late Tuesday, Balog asked Szaniszlo to “kindly” return the award.

The ambassadors of Israel and the United States have issued letters criticizing Balog’s original decision.
