Comic-Con: Days of Future Past Plans

20th Century Fox has been coy about what sort of presence the X-Men franchise will have at this week’s San Diego Comic-Con. The Hollywood Reporter recently confirmed that The Wolverine will be there at Saturday’s Fox presentation, and now a new report claims that, as suspected, X-Men: Days of Future Past will be the panel’s “secret” film.

According to Vulture, “the Bryan Singer–helmed film will be sending over a dozen cast members to San Diego to tease the ambitious sequel.” We already know Hugh Jackman, Jennifer Lawrence, Anna Paquin, Shawn Ashmore, and Peter Dinklage will already be at Comic-Con for, respectively, The Wolverine, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, True Blood, The Following, and Game of Thrones. So that leaves the likes of James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart, Halle Berry, Ellen Page, Evan Peters, Nicholas Hoult, Omar Sy, Daniel Cudmore, and Lucas Till, who Bryan Singer revealed via Twitter is reprising his First Class role of Havok (see the pic Singer tweeted below).

Azazel Won't be Back for Days of Future Past

Add Azazel to the list of non-returning mutants for X-Men: Days of Future Past. First Class actor Jason Flemyng says he’ll be sitting this next one out.

Explained Flemyng, “Initially I was gutted, but then I remembered I had to get up at two in the morning, I had to be painted red and be slightly out of focus and posed a lot, and that was sort of it. Now I don’t have to do that.”

Cincinnati State hosts the first class in a program that will be replicated across the U.S.


Certification ceremony marks important milestone toward training and matching 100,000 veterans by 2015

CINCINNATI–(BUSINESS WIRE)– GE (NYS: GE) , in partnership with the Manufacturing Institute, Cincinnati State Technical and Community College, Alcoa Inc., Boeing and Lockheed Martin, today celebrated the accomplishments of the first group of U.S. veterans to complete classes from the Get Skills to Work (GSTW) program.

With an estimated 600,000 open advanced manufacturing jobs across America, GSTW is joining major manufacturers and educators to help close the skills gap through training and skills matching for U.S. veterans. Eleven veterans participated in the completion ceremony at Cincinnati State‘s Workforce Development Center. The event marks an important milestone for the nationwide program, whose goal is to train and match 100,000 veterans by 2015. The program also aims to empower employers with tools to recruit, onboard and mentor veterans.

Today’s certification ceremony in Cincinnati included veterans who completed accelerated skills training in core manufacturing skillsets. The ceremony featured speakers Gary Sinise, actor & president, Gary Sinise Foundation; David Joyce, president and CEO GE Aviation; O’dell M. Owens, president, Cincinnati State; and Jim Golem, president, Cincinnati GSTW Advisory Board and Director of Human Resources, CTL Aerospace Inc.

“A strong and forward-looking manufacturing industry is central to the long-term health and success of the U.S. economy,” said Joyce. “Veterans embody many leadership qualities that can help drive growth at GE and among our suppliers and community partners. This is an important step in a nationwide effort to help these men and women compete for long-term careers in the manufacturing sector, and ultimately drive U.S. innovation and competitiveness.”

To ensure that the skills training meets the immediate needs of local employers, coalition partners worked with local businesses to develop the Cincinnati State curriculum. This curriculum-building process will be repeated and tailored to each pilot …read more

Halle Berry in Talks for Days of Future Past

It sounds like we can cautiously add Halle Berry to the list of returning X-stars in Bryan Singer’s X-Men: Days of Future Past.

Although it hasn’t been officially announced yet, Indie Wire says the actress will “most likely” be reprising her role as Storm in the upcoming comic book sequel — “practically 90 percent sure,” the report says. Negotiations are underway.

Meanwhile, Jennifer Lawrence told E! Online that her makeup for Mystique will be getting an upgrade for the new film. Instead of full body paint, which reportedly caused her severe skin irritation on the set of First Class, she’ll be strapping on a body suit. “It will be from neck down so it will cut out time and the blisters,” she said.

X-Men's Matthew Vaughn to Produce FF Reboot

Mark Millar, comics scribe and overseer of all things Marvel for Fox these days, has just revealed on Twitter that none other than X-Men: First Class director Matthew Vaughn is joining the studio’s Fantastic Four reboot as a producer. Here’s the full text of the tweet:

“Just off the phone with Fox and some excellent news – Matthew Vaughn is producing Josh Trank’s Fantastic Four reboot!”

Surely we have to look at this as good news for the Fantastic Four project, considering how successful First Class was. It’s also an interesting development when one considers that Vaughn dropped out of the X-Men sequel Days of Future Past back in October (only to be replaced by original X-director Bryan Singer). It would seem that there’s no ill will between parties after that decision, and really, if Fox is looking to build a “cohesive universe” like Marvel Studios has with their superhero films, they could definitely use a talent like Vaughn to help steer that vision.

By now, most of you are aware the U.S. Postal Service has decided to stop asking and start doing: It will end Saturday mail service, effective August 5 — unless Congress stops it. What might be less obvious is that it has been asking for permission to do that since 2009, during which time total mail volume has fallen more than 5% and First-Class volume has drop by more than 12%. …read more

X-Men: Days of Future Past in 3D

Director Bryan Singer revealed this week that X-Men: Days of Future Past will be shot in 3D, making it the first X-Men film to do so.

“I’ll probably use some of the motion-capture technology for certain things

. And of course the 3D technology. I’ll be shooting native stereo on X-Men,” the filmmaker revealed to Cinema Blend.

Singer was also asked why he’s been so secretive about revealing plot points for Days of Future Past, especially considering how open he was with First Class.

How Will Fox Reunite Its X-Men Stars?

So far, X-Men: Days of Future Past is off to an excellent start, casting-wise. In addition to locking down First Class‘s James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence and Nicholas Hoult for the sequel, 20th Century Fox has also landed original X-Men stars Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen in recent weeks. Likewise, Wolverine’s Hugh Jackman is currently in negotiations to come aboard the project, which is scheduled to begin production this April.
However, other actors from the original trilogy of films like Halle Berry, James Marsden and Famke Janssen have yet to be confirmed for the sequel, which will span both the 1960s setting (that was established in First Class) as well as, if the comics are any indication, a future age of mutant discrimination. So how does the studio plan to assemble such a mammoth and (presumably) expensive cast?
