Bank provided $16 million loan for acquisition and rehab of former World Trade Building
SAN DIEGO–(BUSINESS WIRE)– U.S. Bank will join Affirmed Housing Group on Monday, March 11 at 10 a.m. PT to celebrate the grand opening of Connections Housing, a 12-story historic building that will provide housing and services to San Diego‘s homeless. U.S. Bank provided $16 million in financing for the construction and rehabilitation of the property, which is located at 1250 6th Avenue in San Diego.
“Connections Housing has been an important contributor to the health and soundness of our community,” said Steve Stuckey, president of U.S. Bank in San Diego. “We are proud to be their financing partner, and to join the City of San Diego and San Diego Housing Commission to wish them tremendous success in their new facility.”
Formerly the World Trade Center Building, the property has been transformed into a service and residential community designed to reduce street homelessness in San Diego‘s downtown neighborhoods by providing permanent and transitional housing.
The project consists of 73 studio units, which will be rented out as permanent supportive housing, plus two resident-manager units. The building will also include a primary care and a healthcare center on the first floor, 16 single-room-occupancy units and 134 transitional beds on the second and third floors, a multiservice center with offices, training and education rooms in the basement, and a full-service kitchen with training facilities.

Nintendo Direct Coming Tomorrow
Less than a month after its massive Wii U Nintendo Direct, which announced new Mario, Mario Kart and Zelda games, Nintendo is returning with another Nintendo Direct broadcast, scheduled to air tomorrow, February 14, at 6am PT/9am PT/2pm GMT.
Curiously, the topics vary by region. Nintendo appears to have no plans for a Japanese broadcast, though the lack of an announcement could simply be due to the fact that it’s past midnight in Kyoto. (It is not unprecedented for Nintendo to announce and stream a Direct within a span of hours. Perhaps they will announce in the morning?) Nintendo of America says it will be discussing upcoming 3DS and Wii U games. Nintendo of Europe, however, will only be discussing 3DS games.

Indonesian Islamic party head arrested for graft
Indonesia‘s anti-graft commission has for the first time arrested a top leader of an Islamic-based party on corruption charges.
Corruption Eradication Commission spokesman Johan Budi said Thursday that Luthfi Hasan Ishaaq, leader of the Prosperous Justice Party, was arrested on suspicion of accepting bribes to secure a government contract for PT. Indoguna Utama, a meat importer.
Prosperous Justice is Indonesia‘s largest Muslim-based party and is part of the coalition government.
Budi says Ishaaq was taken into custody late Wednesday, two days after two company directors and Ishaaq’s aide were arrested at a hotel in Jakarta. Investigators confiscated US$103,000 in cash found in a car belonging to the aide.
Ishaaq has denied wrongdoing. Indonesia, the world’s most populous Muslim nation, is plagued by graft.

Landslides leaves 9 dead, 17 missing in Indonesia
Two separate landslides triggered by torrential rain in western Indonesia have killed at least nine people, including four geothermal workers, and left 17 others missing, officials said Sunday.
Disaster official Ade Edward said 20 houses were buried by mud and rocks that fell from surrounding hills at dawn Sunday in Tanjung Sani village in West Sumatra province’s Agam district. Rescuers recovered five bodies and were searching for 17 people who reportedly were buried under the mud, he said. Three injured villagers were being treated at a hospital.
Heavy rain also triggered a landslide late Saturday in a drilling field owned by PT. Pertamina Geothermal Energy, killing four workers on Sumatra island, company official Adiatma Sardjito said.
“The workers were having dinner when the landslide suddenly occurred,” Sardjito said, adding that five others were injured and one was missing.
He said the company had sent heavy equipment to assist efforts to retrieve the bodies.
Seasonal downpours cause frequent landslides and flashfloods each year in Indonesia, a chain of 17,000 islands where millions of people live in mountainous areas or near fertile flood plains.

PlayStation Network Maintenance Incoming
Every so often, the PlayStation Network goes down for maintenance, and another brief round has been announced. On Thursday, January 17th, the PSN will begin a maintenance period that will run from 8am PT until 8pm PT, or a period of 12 hours.
“The PlayStation Store and Account Management will not be available during the maintenance period,” Sony’s Matthew Harper notes, “but you will be able to access online play and apps provided that you have signed into the PlayStation Network at some point between now and the time of the maintenance. So please be sure to sign in now if you wish to access the Network during Thursday’s maintenance window.”
