Michigan vs. Syracuse LIVE Score, Updates: Trey Burke, Wolverines Must Face Orange 2-3 Zone Defense

By The Huffington Post News Editors

It will be a matchup of strength vs. strength when No. 4 Michigan and No. 4 Syracuse tip off in the second national semifinal on Saturday night. The multi-faceted Wolverines’ offense led by Trey Burke, the AP player of the year, will need to unlock the stingy 2-3 zone defense of the Orange.

The offenses of Indiana and Marquette broke against the 2-3 like waves on the shore. Marquette managed just 39 points in the Elite Eight, a record low for an NCAA tournament regional final in the shot clock era. Indiana was held to a season low 50 in the Sweet 16.

“We’ve just got to try to find different ways to attack the zone,” Burke said ahead of the Final Four, via The Associated Press. “They play a really good 2-3. It’s tough. We’ve got to make sure we knock down uncontested 3s.”

Michigan vs. Syracuse Final Four Preview Capsule: Predict The Winner

By The Huffington Post News Editors

These opposites make for an attractive pair in the Final Four.

Earning a trip to Atlanta after confounding No. 3 Marquette and No. 1 Indiana with its 2-3 zone defense in the East Region, Syracuse will now tangle with one of the most dynamic offenses in the nation: The Michigan Wolverines.

With point guard Trey Burke leading a Maize attack that also includes Tim Hardaway Jr., Glen Robinson III and Mitch McGary, Syracuse’s vaunted zone will face arguably its stiffest test yet. In the Elite Eight, No. 3 Florida had no answers for the Wolverines playmakers. Perhaps most worryingly for the Orange, Nik Stauskas was 6-6 from the three-point range. Will the Wolverines bust the zone?

CBS Drops Tennis For NCAA Tournament: Murray-Ferrer Tiebreak Sent To Tennis Channel

By The Huffington Post News Editors

College basketball fans who tuned in to CBS before the NCAA Tournament game between Michigan and Florida on Sunday afternoon were treated to the third set of a championship match between Andy Murray and David Ferrer at the Sony Open. Tennis fans absorbed by the cagey, three-set final, meanwhile, were out of luck when it came to the eventual tiebreak unless they also had Tennis Channel.

When Murray forced a winner-take-title tiebreak, CBS turned the Sony Open broadcast over to Tennis Channel and switched to its scheduled NCAA Tournament coverage.

Elite Eight Teams: Louisville, Michigan Among Teams In 2013 NCAA Tournament Regional Finals

By The Huffington Post News Editors

The field of 68 teams in the 2013 NCAA Tournament has been winnowed down to the Elite Eight. Sixty of the best college basketball teams in the nation, including the team that entered the tournament atop the AP poll, have been sent home. The eight teams remaining will play in four regional finals on Saturday and Sunday, with the winners advancing to the Final Four in Atlanta.

With wins on Thursday night, Marquette and Syracuse ensured that at least one Big East team would reach the Georgia Dome. Buzz Williams’ Golden Eagles will attempt to solve the 2-3 zone defense of the Orange in the opening Elite Eight game on Saturday. The conference rivals tip off at 4:30 p.m. EST in Washington, DC in the East Region.

Another Big East team (for now), Louisville, is the only No. 1 seed to reach the regional finals. Rick Pitino’s Cardinals held off the No. 12 Oregon Ducks on Friday night in the Sweet 16. The Cards will face Duke in Indianapolis on Sunday.

Remarks by the President on Rebuilding America Partnership in Miami, Florida

By The White House

PortMiami
Miami, Florida
1:40 P.M. EDT
THE PRESIDENT: Hello, Miami! (Applause.) It is good to be back. You know, I've been waiting for spring. I realize I just had to come down to Miami. (Laughter.) It is wonderful to be here.
We've got some outstanding representatives in Congress from this area — Joe Garcia is in the house. (Applause.) Frederica Wilson is in the house. (Applause.) And we've got Debbie Wasserman Schultz here. (Applause.) I want to thank the Mayor of Miami-Dade County, Carlos Gimenez. (Applause.) And of course, it’s good to see all of you. And I want to thank the gentlemen who just gave me a amazing tour of the PortMiami Tunnel.
LITTLE GIRL: Yea!
THE PRESIDENT: What are you yelling about? Hey, sweetie. (Applause.)
WOMAN: She came just to see you!
THE PRESIDENT: Okay, well, hello. (Laughter.) She’s going to be a politician because I could hear her without a mic from far away. (Laughter.)
Now, before we get started, I've got to get into a sticky subject right off the bat. I know you guys aren’t happy with my Chicago Bulls.
AUDIENCE: Booo —
THE PRESIDENT: But I just want you to know the Heat are going to be just fine. They’re going to be okay. (Applause.) They are playing basketball the right way. The Hurricanes — they had a great season — no, no, they deserve a big round of applause. (Applause.) Tonight you’ve got Florida and Florida Gulf Coast going at it. (Applause.) One of them will go to the Elite Eight. So, let’s face it, Florida is the center of basketball right now. (Applause.)
But I’m not here to talk about hoops. I’m here to talk about one of the plans that I put forward in my State of the Union address — a plan to put people to work rebuilding America.
I’ve come to PortMiami today because there are few more important things we can do to create jobs right now and strengthen our economy over the long haul than rebuilding the infrastructure that powers our businesses and our economy — our roads, our bridges, our schools, and our ports just like this one.
As President, my top priority is to make sure we are doing everything we can to reignite the true engine of our economic growth — and that is a rising, thriving middle class. A growing economy that creates good, middle-class jobs – that’s got to be our true North. That's what has to guide our efforts every single day. And to do that, we should be asking ourselves three questions every single day: Number one, how do we make America a magnet for …read more

Buzzer Beaters: NCAA Tournament Highlights Include Iconic Shots From Laettner, Drew (VIDEO)

By The Huffington Post News Editors

Nothing makes basketball fans and armchair bracketologists go mad in March quite like a buzzer beater.

Whether the last-gasp game-winner results in a bracket-busting upset or a narrow escape for a popular favorite, there is nothing quite like a buzzer beater, especially if Gus Johnson is on the call. Not only can these memorable moments define the legacy of a top player but they can indelibly imprint the name of an otherwise unheralded hoopster in the memories of countless fans.

From the inconic Grant Hill-to-Christian Laettner miracle shot in the 1992 Elite Eight and Bryce Drew’s game-winning three-pointer in 1998 to Drew Nicholas‘ 2003 running fadeaway to stave off an upset and Lorenzo Charles‘ title-clinching put-back in 1983, here are 19 of the most memorable buzzer beaters in the history of the NCAA Tournament.
