‘Wife Swap’: Las Vegas Party Girl Switched With Christian Mother Who Lives Off The Grid (VIDEO)

By The Huffington Post News Editors

It was a culture shock for sure during the season premiere of “Wife Swap.” Marissa was a big-time party girl from Las Vegas nicknamed Big Juicy. She was switching places with Angela, a Christian minimalist. To say that neither was quite prepared for their new lifestyle would be an understatement. And they didn’t seem too excited about the opportunity, either.

“I have never been to Las Vegas. I have a pretty negative connotation,” Angela admitted. “Sin City? So, I’m not really excited about that.”

Big Juicy was freaking out as well, “No! No! Are you serious?” she asked “Those people are Amish!”

JGL Talks Sin City: A Dame to Kill For

While promoting his directorial debut Don Jon’s Addiction at SXSW this weekend in Austin, TX, Joseph Gordon-Levitt was asked about his experience working on Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller’s upcoming Sin City: A Dame to Kill For.

In the comic book sequel, JGL plays Jonny, a brand new character in the Sin City universe, who will appear in the segment titled “The Long Bad Night” — which isn’t based on any of Miller’s previous comics.

“It’s interesting. They wanted to have a movie where fans of the books would still be able to look forward to something new and unexpected, so they added a story,” Gordon-Levitt told Coming Soon. “I remember being really intrigued by that and I was really looking forward to, ‘Oh that will be so interesting to have the actual comics to refer to as an actor’ but no I didn’t.”

Las Vegas seen as dangerous even as crime drops

Known as Disneyland for grown-ups, Las Vegas brands itself as a place where tourists can enjoy a sense of edginess with no real danger.

But a series of violent crimes amid the throngs of tourists is threatening Sin City‘s reputation as a place to let your guard down with no fear of consequences.

A car-to-car shooting and fiery crash that killed two bystanders and an aspiring rapper Thursday followed an elevator stabbing and a movie theater parking lot shooting.

Though crime is falling on the Strip that houses the city’s major casinos, tourism officials worry that vacationers and convention planners could begin to steer clear because of a perception of mayhem.

They say that with violent crime, as with so much else in Vegas, perception may outweigh reality.

Vegas shooting ranges amp up Valentine's Day gun promotions

One Las Vegas shooting range is selling “take a shot at love” packages that include 50 submachine gun rounds. Another is offering wedding packages in which the bride and groom can pose with Uzis and ammunition belts. And a third invites lovebirds to renew their vows and shoot a paper cutout zombie in the face.

Never known for its understatement or good taste, Sin City is bucking the national trend of avoiding flippant gun promotions after the Newton, Conn., elementary school shooting. Instead, it is embracing tourists’ newfound interest in big guns the only way it knows how: by going all in.

The newest crop of outlandish Valentine’s Day offers is no exception.

Capitalizing on the state’s relaxed gun laws, shooting ranges offer an armory of military-grade weapons that aren’t accessible in other states. And because this is Las Vegas, they also allow customers to destroy photographs of exes, make souvenir T-shirts full of holes and shoot fully-automatic weapons in barely-there bachelor party man-kinis.

Some gun control advocates say the promotions trivialize the dangers of high-powered weapons.

“These gun stores and shooting ranges offer bad puns in poor taste in their efforts to put a happy face on firearms, yet each day more than 86 Americans die from gun violence,” said Newtown native Josh Sugarmann, who is executive director of the Washington D.C-based Violence Policy Center.

“While Las Vegas gun promoters present assault rifles with high-capacity ammunition magazines as harmless Valentine’s Day props, the vast majority of Americans understand their true role: military-bred weapons that threaten police and public safety,” he said.

At least half a dozen ranges opened in Las Vegas last year, triggering a marketing arms race.

Before visitors even pick up their bags at McCarran International Airport, they are confronted by ads for the Gun Store, Las Vegas‘ most venerable shooting range. One ad features a blonde posing with an MP5 submachine gun under the words, “Try one.”

Machine Gun Las Vegas, which opened last winter, hires former go-go dancers as hostesses and sells its “femme fetale” package with the slogan, “There’s nothing like the scent of Cordite in a woman’s hair.” (Cordite is an alternative to gunpowder).

“We give what people are asking for, whether it’s the `mob experience’ and they want to test a Tommy gun, or a bachelor package, and they want a limo to take them to the club afterward,” said Lianne Heck, marketing director at Range 702, which opened in October.

This year, gun ranges are extending their tongue-in-cheek promotions to Valentine’s Day, always a moneymaker in this matrimony-and-sex-obsessed town.

The Guns and Ammo Garage is offering free vow renewals by the “Pistol Packing Preacher” for one day only. The Gun Store has built a permanent “shotgun weddings” chapel, because nothing makes a memory quite like the sound of gunfire.

Bob MacDuff said his “I do’s” there last July before posing with AK-47s for wedding pictures and going shooting with his 25 guests. He encourages others to celebrate their love with weapons in hand.

“For people who are gun people, you can’t find a better option,” …read more

Obsidian's Pitch for Fallout: New Vegas 2

It’s safe to say New Vegas was a high point for fans of the Fallout franchise. We loved its post-apocalyptic take on Sin City to the tune of a 9.0 review and an Editor’s Choice award when it debuted back in 2010, and we’d love it all over again if Obsidian ever had a chance to follow it up with a sequel. Well, no announcement on that front yet. But Obsidian’s CEO, Feargus Urquhart, has at least been dreaming up scenarios he’d like to see a potential sequel explore.

Like, say, Fallout: Los Angeles.

“We need an interesting confined area. So I mean, it could be LA. Fallout LA. That could be interesting. It’d probably be The Boneyard, which is from Fallout 1. It could be very different. It could be almost a Walking Dead meets Fallout-like thing because of all the radiation.”

Eva Green is Sin City's Dame to Kill For

Dimension Films announced today that actress Eva Green (Casino Royale, Dark Shadows) has won the highly coveted role of Ava Lord in Frank Miller’s Sin City: A Dame To Kill For.

Ava, the film and comic’s titular vixen, is described by Miller as “every man’s most glorious dreams come true, she’s also every man’s darkest nightmares.”

Co-directors Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller said in a statement, “We’ve been wanting to tell this story for a very long time.  Ava Lord is one of the most deadly and fascinating residents of Sin City.  From the start, we knew that the actor would need to be able to embody the multifaceted characteristics of this femme fatale and we found that in Eva Green.  We are ecstatic that Eva is joining us.”

If you were hoping to see more sexy dancing from Jessica Alba’s Nancy Callahan in Frank Miller’s Sin City: A Dame To Kill For, well, then you’re in luck!

“I had to learn a bunch of dance sequences for it,” Alba told Vulture at the Sundance film festival. “I do a lot more dancing in this one.”

In fact, Alba does so much more dancing that she needed three months just to prepare for it! “It was kind of crazy,” said Alba. “It was very, very difficult, and you’ll see why.”

And just in case you forgot why this is important news that we must report:

Bruce Willis Returns for Sin City 2

Director Robert Rodriguez revealed this week that Bruce Willis will reprise his Sin City role as Hartigan in the upcoming comic book sequel Sin City: A Dame to Kill For.

“Bruce is back. He’ll be seen,” Rodriguez hesitantly revealed to MTV in a recent interview. No other details were divulged, but suffice it to say Hartigan’s presence in the film wouldn’t be totally out of the question considering that Dame is a prequel.

Three More Join Sin City 2

Three more actors have been added to the ensemble cast of Frank Miller’s Sin City: A Dame To Kill For, director Robert Rodriguez‘s forthcoming adaptation of the graphic novel.

Josh Brolin is Sin City 2's Dwight

Dimension Films announced today that Josh Brolin has officially been cast in Frank Miller’s Sin City: A Dame to Kill For.

The actor will play Dwight, a role portrayed by Clive Owen in 2005 film. However, since Brolin’s Dwight undergoes facial reconstructive surgery following the events of Dame, the recast actually works in favor of the story.

“Dwight is a constant character throughout the Sin City world and A Dame To Kill For is a defining episode in his life,” said directors Robert Rodriguez and Miller. “We’re looking forward to Josh’s take on Dwight.”

CES Day One wrap-up: High-tech fitness and indestructible smartphones (video)

LAS VEGAS—CES 2013 is underway, and we are roaming the show floor with an eye on the latest and greatest gadgets on display in Sin City. Unlike the days leading up to the show’s opening, formal press events are few and far between. Instead, it’s every tech writer for themselves when it comes to tracking down the gear that the world wants to hear about.

After strolling the aisles of the Las Vegas Convention Center on Tuesday, we’ve noticed a few trends worth keeping an eye on. Take fitness gear—it’s everywhere you can spot on the showfloor. A number of device makers are creating gadgets that monitor everything from the steps you take to your vital signs—often logging that data on your mobile device. In our wrap-up video, we talk briefly about Withings Smart Activity Tracker, but our health and fitness coverage at CES also includes Zensorium’s Tinke, new offerings from iHealth, and how health gadgets are turning to Bluetooth for connectivity.

Zensorium’s Tinke measures both your fitness and stress levels.

You also can’t walk very far on the show floor without seeing someone trying to destroy a mobile device, if only to show you how they can make your smartphone or tablet more resistant to damage. We’ve already told you about the latest version of Gorilla Glass from Corning and Liquipel’s water-resistant coating for mobile devices. But even phone makers themselves are now touting their devices’ durability. Sony’s Xperia Z demo included dousing its new smartphone with water, while Huwaei also took its phones for a dip.
