Report: Jaguar F-Type coupe to cost more than convertible?

By Brandon Turkus

Jaguar F-Type Coupe Spied at the Nurburgring

Filed under:

Jaguar may price the much-rumored F-Type Coupe above the F-Type Convertible, if a report from Australia’s Drive is to be believed. What makes Jag think that such a pricing strategy would work? Porsche. Take a look at the German manufacturer’s consumer site, and you’ll notice that the Boxster is less expensive than the Cayman, despite being essentially the same car.

It’s a fair point, and a price premium does a good job of emphasizing the sporting chops of the coupe over the open-air experience that normally entitles convertibles to higher MSRPs. It’s unclear just how closely Jaguar will follow Porsche’s example, though.

Both the Cayman and Cayman S boast an extra ten horsepower over a Boxster or Boxster S, and while this bump in grunt is negligible in every situation but an argument over which is “best,” it isn’t something to be ignored in the F-Type, particularly as cranking more power out of its supercharged engines should be a rather simple matter.

Drive also points out something quite exciting: with an F-Type Coupe on the way, the groundwork has now been laid for a dedicated R and RS model. We can’t wait.

Rumormill: Range Rover Sport and Evoque rumored to get RS versions

By Jonathon Ramsey

2014 Land Rover Range Rover Sport

Filed under:

A report in Autocar claims that Jaguar’s RS badge and its herd of extra horsepower is walking across the aisle to the Land Rover stable. Autocar sources say the Range Rover Sport and Evoque will get RS designations, the supercharged V8 in the Sport RS getting cranked up to “at least” 542 horsepower, the 2.0-liter EcoBoost in the Evoque RS getting 300.

The magazine has spy shots of an extra potent Sport testing at the Nürburgring, slight changes to the lower parts of the SUV giving it away as a ringer. Supposedly, with the same horsepower (or more) than the RS cars in the Jaguar fold, Land Rover wants it to get from 0-60 miles per hour in 4.5 seconds; that would make it just 0.1 second shy of the same run in a Jaguar XJR. The Evoque RS is said to be arriving first, perhaps this year, with the Range Rover Sport RS coming next year.

Satan Makes History Twice This Week

By Rev Michael Bresciani

Satan SC Satan makes history Twice This Week

Centuries of British nobility has turned the corner for the worse. In spite of the British Coalition for Marriage having seven times as many supporters as the conservative party, David Cameron and Queen Elizabeth II are proudly announcing the right for gays to marry in England. The gays and the liberals are ecstatic, but the rank and file across the island nation is repulsed and sickened.

Sir Gerald Howarth, a former government minister, said Britain had no right to re-define marriage; and he said it was an “absolute parliamentary disgrace.”

Nobility and disgrace is a perfect non-sequitur on display in the parliament and the apostate Church of England (Anglican). This announcement brings home, in full clarity, the meaning of the last day’s prophetic warnings of the Bible.

The warning of scripture is that, because the nations choose the prurient, the perverted, and all that opposes the commandments of God, they will be given over to reprobation to prepare them for their own judgment and the last day’s tumults and dark days. To use the most fundamental language of biblical theology – it is Satanic, and it will bring judgment.

Britain’s ignominiousness has been outshined only by America’s contumaciousness.

At about the same time the queen announced her favor for the gays, Rolling Stone magazine published the picture of Boston bomber suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev in full color with dazzling air brushed quality on the cover of their latest edition. Famed musician Ted Nugent, who made the cover of RS himself in 1979, said RS produces mostly dope-inspired leftist tripe, and he blasted the magazine for its cover.

Nugent said, “It is important the young readers of RS know how a fellow dope smoker lost his mind and doped his way into the evil, brain-dead Islamist terrorism and the horror he wreaked on innocent Americans.”

Rolling Stone once adorned their cover with a picture of Charles Manson; we can only imagine that they will be perfectly willing to publish the face of the antichrist, when as prophecy promises, he arrives to turn the world completely on its ear.

Those who still trust their bibles know that Satan has many faces, and his doctrine and message have many modern faces and voices.

This writer, along with a myriad of others, is willing to risk being labeled just another bible thumping, right wing voice decrying the world’s plunge into everything evil to declare that we are allowing all that is nascent to lead us into the ancient prophecies of the second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ and the judgment of nations.

From Christian sites on the backwaters of the internet to the voices of our best known preachers and prophets, the warnings are faithfully forwarded to a lost and dying world. The advice is simple, but profoundly important; take heed.

The Apostle Peter charged all believers to ‘take heed,’ but especially as we see the last days approaching. Peter emphatically warned that ‘prophecy’ was the key that alone could keep us from failing as these dreadful times unfold. To wit:

Video: Seinfeld takes Seth Meyers out in the perfect Porsche

By Damon Lowney

Filed under:

The latest episode of Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee features Seth Meyers of Saturday Night Live fame riding shotgun in what is a very special Porsche from host Jerry Seinfeld’s collection: a 1973 911 Carrera RS 2.7. Seinfeld chose the “no-nonsense” sports car because he thought it fit his guest’s personality (Meyers thinks motorcycles “are like the cigarette of transportation”), but we enjoy the chance to see one of these rare, über-valuable Porsches being driven on city streets – and in the rain, no less! What we don’t like seeing is the Carrera RS being parallel parked behind a pick-up truck, though, fortunately, it seems that Seinfeld was able to avoid any front-end damage to the comparatively fragile Porsche.

Once at the coffee shop, the two comedians have a candid conversation about Meyers’ time with SNL, from his early days on the show when he didn’t think he was good enough to be a cast member to some of the high points in his career, such as SNL‘s “Really!?” segment that he performed in and how he became a writer for the show.

After coffee, when they’re back in the car and Seinfeld opens up the throttle of the lightweight RS 2.7, he manages to eke out a big grin from Meyers – or maybe it was a grimace at the thought of driving in the rain on old tires. Whatever the case, be sure to watch the video below (and stay tuned until the end for a surprise).

Connect using ALOM to Sun Fire V210

By danijeljames

I have bought from eBay a second hand Sun Fire V210 server and I’m really stumped at the lack of complete instructions on how to connect to it.

I don’t have a Windows machine, I’ve only got Ubuntu and OS X computers. None of them have an old RS-232 port on them either.

In saying that, I have no problem going out and buying cheap Windows 98 laptop for $50 that has RS-232 port available on it if that is what I need.

So can someone tell me, and don’t reply with something vague like “use hyper terminal in Windows” or “connect using terminal” because that’s seriously not going to point me in any direction. I’ve read nearly all the manuals and guides from Sun/Oracle, but it’s just not making sense and I don’t want to waste money on something that doesn’t fit the bill because I didn’t understand the instructions.

To put it simply, I just need the basic instructions on what I need, how to connect, and from there, how I can go about installing Solaris 10 on this sytem. Once I’ve got Solaris 10 on there, I won’t need any more help and I can be off of my way to learn some things for myself.

Thank you in advance to anyone who can save me anymore grief that I already have given myself.

PS – There is no OS on there at the moment. The HDD’s have been cleared. And there is no CD/DVD drive. I need to go buy one to install the OS.

Video: 2014 Chevy Camaro SS gets video walkaround

By Steven J. Ewing

Filed under:

The new 2014 Camaro Z/28 may have been Chevrolet’s little attention getter during the 2013 New York Auto Show late last month, but we mustn’t forget that the rest of the Camaro range also received some pretty substantial updates for the new model year. So for those of you who might not have had the chance to soak in all of the 2014 Camaro SS’ goodness, Chevrolet has released this video, in which Camaro marketing manager John Fitzpatrick gives us a proper walkaround of the refreshed coupe.

Fitzpatrick says that with the update, Chevrolet wanted to better differentiate between the V6 and V8 models, as well as giving the RS package a little more flair. Here, he shows us a number of features on a red SS RS coupe, including things like the revised front fascia with functional foglamps and the newly designed rear deck with the RS‘ exclusive LED taillamps.

Scroll down to watch the video, and be sure to check out our full 2014 Camaro SS coverage, here.

An Audi RS8? You Bet Your RS It Could Happen—Emphasis on “Could”

By Alexander Stoklosa

A rendering of an Audi RS8 has appeared up on the Audi-centric website Fourtitude.com. Wait, an RS8? Simmer down—while we’ve not heard of any plans for Audi to add an RS version of its A8 sedan, we’re running the speculative photo because, well, an RS8 would be rad-tacular. If it were to happen, of course. (For more photos head on over to Fourtitude’s site.)

Currently, Audi’s biggest four-door comes in regular A8 grade—available with a diesel V-6, a supercharged V-6, and a twin-turbo V-8—and high-performance S8 guise, which gets a hotter version of the A8′s twin-turbo V-8. There has never been an S8-topping RS8, but given that Audi’s been applying the RS treatment to machines like the Q3 recently, anything is possible. The best part of this fantasy? In order to top the S8, the RS8 would need to pack significantly more than that A8′s 520 horsepower. Yes.

Type 7043-150 does not boot

By n0s0up4u

Hello,

I have an older RS/6000 system and it is not booting. It just keeps rebooting. If I try to put in the 5.3 install media it just sits at Starting Software…Please wait

I searched other posts that say to go into maintenance mode from SMS menu and check if the filesystems are full and/or corrupted and to unmirror them if they’re mirrored. My SMS menu does not have a Maintenance mode that I know of. I have Config, Multiboot, Utilities, and Exit. I did go in and see that there are two 5gb drives on it. I also tried to use a diagnostic cd but it wouldn’t boot either. I was able to get to an OK prompt but it didn’t seem to recognize any commands.

It has firmware TCP99006. I think the firmware should be updated to TCP05287 but I can no longer find it on the IBM site. Any help and or suggestions with this would be greatly appreciated.

1 of These 3 Stocks Won't Hold Its Gains

By Rich Duprey, The Motley Fool

Filed under:

The decision by the European Union over the weekend to force Cypriot bank account holders to have their savings taxed in exchange for giving the nation’s government a bailout — and the resulting vote by Cyprus‘ parliament rejecting the deal — had a chilling impact on the market. The Dow Jones Industrial Average barely moved on Tuesday, inching up just 3 points, as all eyes wondered how the financial mess would sort itself out.

If Cyprus is allowed to leave the EU, the entire structure crumbles, but taxing the bank accounts of individuals is an unprecedented maneuver that could cause bank runs in other financial unstable countries because the camel put its nose under the tent.

The three following stocks, however, were far removed from the scene of international intrigue, rising on their own merits. Yet resist the urge to high-five everyone in the cubicles next to you. Smart investors won’t celebrate until they know why their stock surged, because without a fundamental basis for the bounce, these stocks could just as quickly make the return trip down.

What a life!
With a potential bidding war looming for Life Technologies as possible buyers from Roche to Thermo Fisher Scientific and Danaher join a slew of PE firms weighing bids, investors looked about to see what else might be on the table and found Pacific BioSciences of California a possible target.

Life is a genetic testing company whose advanced diagnostics and consistent cash flows are considered jewels worthy of owning. PacBio is a similarly situated DNA sequencing company whose tools for biological research, including its RS system, might also suddenly be of interest to buyers if they’re eventually shut out of Life Technologies.

Roche, for example, previously considered taking over Illumina but ultimately declined, noting there were alternatives on the market for gene-sequencing technology. Presumably one of those is Life Technologies, and certainly another would be PacBio, but until bids are received for the former, a possible valuation for the latter isn’t really possible.

Take two; they’re cheap
It wasn’t a possible buyout that had shares of NPS Pharmaceuticals rocketing higher yesterday, but rather the buying back of global rights to its short-bowel syndrome drug, Gattex, and the recombinant human parathyroid hormone 1-84 that had investors bidding up its shares.

For just $50 million, NPS bought out its European distribution partner Takeda Pharmaceuticals for something that is expected to have peak sales of $350 million in the U.S. alone, in addition to what it can garner abroad. Short-bowel syndrome occurs when much of the small intestine has to be removed and the body is unable to absorb as much water and nutrients as it did previously.

NPS will pay Takeda an additional $30 million in cash or stock when sales of Gattex and 1-84 exceed $750 million annually.

Jaguar XJR Previewed before New York Auto Show

By Darryl

jaguar-xjr

Jaguar seems to be on a mission recently with the introduction of their latest R and RS variations to literally claw their way to the front of the pack. To top-off the R-spec vehicles, Jaguar is set to introduce the new XJR at the New York Auto Show next week packing in 550 horsepower from the same snarling 5.0-liter supercharged V8 found in the XFR-S and XKR-S.

Other changes to the new Jaguar XJ flagship with an R-badge, to run with the likings of the new Audi S8, will be modifications made to the brakes, steering and suspension to make the large XJR a bit more agile on its 4 paws. We will await the official unveil next week in New York to get a scoop on the rest of specs of the British super limo.

Video: Chevy Sonic shreds like a skateboard

By Steven J. Ewing

Chevy Sonic video

Filed under:

Despite the fact that the 2013 Chevy Sonic is a fun, plucky little thing – especially in ever-so-slightly hotter RS guise – it is not, in fact, a skateboard. But don’t tell that to rapper Theophilus London.

In General Motors‘ latest spot for the Chevrolet compact, London needs to make a quick run to the store for some milk. And even though, once again, the Sonic is not a skateboard, it ollies, pops and gets air because, you know, it’s just so much fun to throw around.

If this video looks familiar to you, it’s because this is the full ad that we first got a preview of in Chevy’s longer, full-line spot, where the brand’s “Find New Roads” tagline was introduced. Scroll down to see this dedicated Sonic spot, along with the older ad, and remember, the Sonic is still – still – not a skateboard.

Report: Ford will probably never offer two RS models at the same time

By Zach Bowman

2011 Ford Focus RS500 - dead-on front view, black

Filed under:

Autocar has some sour news for fans of go-fast Ford products. According to Roelant de Waard, Ford’s president of marketing in Europe, the automaker will probably never offer more than one RS performance model for sale at the same time. That statement runs contrary earlier rumblings that suggested Ford would launch its next-generation Focus RS in 2015 and follow the hatch with a spate of other vehicles with an RS badge. But de Waard has made it clear that Ford of Europe is now focused on squarely on the next Mustang, even though there may be more RS models on the way eventually.

“What is clear is that the RS shouldn’t be a series, or a car badge that we have in our portfolio all the time. It is an extreme car – something more than ST,” he said.

That philosophy makes plenty of sense. We loved the old Focus RS – shown above in RS500 trim – because it was generally bonkers and plenty exclusive. Diluting either aspect is sure to end in disappointment for everyone involved.

Turbodiesel Audi A4 Coming In 2014

By Kurt Ernst

2013 Audi A4 - image: Audi

2013 Audi A4 – image: Audi

A few years back, Audi boasted that it would soon offer diesel versions of every model line it sold in the United States (excluding the R, S and RS vehicles). To date, however, that list includes just the A3 TDI and the Q7 TDI, meaning that there’s still room for a lot of oil-burning Audis in U.S. dealer showrooms.

Perhaps the most eagerly-anticipated Audi diesel is the A4 TDI, a car we expected to be on sale by 2013. In a Tuesday morning conference call, Audi of America president Scott Keogh updated the German luxury brand’s position on diesels in the United States, and it really comes down to timing.

The current Audi A4, built on the B8 platform, is due for replacement in 2014. The new B9 Audi A4 will use a completely different platform (Volkswagen Group’s MLB Evo), so absorbing the cost of building a U.S.-market diesel A4 on the old end-of-life platform made no financial sense.

We’re hoping that means development of the U.S.-spec B9 A4 TDI is well under way, and that the car will launch in the U.S. at the same time as other new A4 models. That’s expected to be sometime in 2014, though to be honest we’d expect it to be late in the year.

Look for the A4 TDI to come to market with Audi’s 2.0-liter turbodiesel four-cylinder engine, and not the more expensive 3.0-liter V-6. Though specs are still a long way from being finalized, you can expect the A4 TDI to deliver at least 140 horsepower and 236 pound-feet of torque, which is the rating for the same engine in the A3 TDI.

There are plenty of other diesel models in Audi’s short-term future, too. The A8 TDI will likely arrive first, in the second quarter of 2014, followed by the Q5 TDI, the A6 TDI and the A7 TDI.

Geneva: Audi RS Q3 is funky, chunky, spunky forbidden fruit [w/videos]

By Steven J. Ewing

Audi RS Q3

Filed under:

After salivating over the Audi RS6 Avant last night, we’re happy to see yet another RS-branded Audi here on the show floor at the Geneva Motor Show. Meet the RS Q3, Audi’s first ever high-performance crossover, showing what’s possible when the Ingolstadt automaker brings its best sporting bits to its smallest CUV.

Powering the RS Q3 is Audi’s 2.5-liter turbocharged five-cylinder engine – the same one found in sweetie-darlings like the TT RS and RS3. Output is rated at 310 horsepower and 309 pound-feet of torque, sent to all four wheels via the automaker’s seven-speed S-tronic dual-clutch transmission. Weighing in at just over 3,800 pounds, the RS Q3 is indeed a porky little pig, but no matter – that forced-induction fire will propel the small crossover to 62 miles per hour in five and a half seconds. And that’s with launch control, too.

The RS Q3 certainly looks the part of a proper sporty Audi, with exaggerated air vents and bulgy, aggressive bits all around. Honestly, we like the way the RS package has translated to the Q3 form – this design really works well on the smaller CUV package. Inside, performance-minded fittings like a flat-bottomed steering wheel, upgraded gauges and sport seats bring the whole RS pack full circle. We’ll admit, we’re definitely intrigued by this little guy.

But intrigued is all we’re likely to be, as Audi has not confirmed any plans to offer the RS Q3 in the United States. Shame, shame, shame. Scroll down to watch a pair of videos featuring the baby RS frolicking in the snow, and while you’re there, check out the press release.

Geneva: 2013 Audi RS6 Avant hauls ass and then some

By Steven J. Ewing

2013 Audi RS6 Avant

Filed under:

Holy moly. Despite the fact that Audi first released details on its 2013 RS6 Avant back in December, we’re still just as smitten with it now as we were a couple months ago. And why wouldn’t we be? This stunning piece of forbidden fruit combines two of our favorite things: fast Audis and useful wagons.

The meat and potatoes behind the RS6 Avant is its twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8, tuned to crank out 560 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque. Mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission, the all-wheel-drive wagon can scoot to 60 miles per hour in just 3.9 seconds, on its way to a top speed of 155 mph. Opting for the Dynamic package ups that v-max to 174 mph, and selecting the Dynamic Plus pack increases that even further to 190 mph.

This RS6 Avant certainly looks the part of an extreme ass-hauler, fitted with the usual RS-spec gaping air intakes, 21-inch wheels, sport exhaust and carbon fiber ceramic brakes. Combine all that goodness with dynamic ride control, an adaptive air suspension and torque-vectoring Quattro all-wheel drive, and we have no doubt that this thing will scare off every other station wagon in the parking lot. (Well, except maybe that Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG. Woof.)

Check out our high-res photos of the RS6 Avant direct from the Volkswagen Group Night festivities here in Geneva, and scroll down for the official press blast.

Official: 2014 Audi RS Q3 breaks out ahead of Geneva reveal

By Jeffrey N. Ross

Ahead of its big reveal next month at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show, Audi has released a handful of images and plenty of details for the all-new RS Q3. As the first-ever crossover from the marque with RS branding, this will be the fourth RS model to go on sale this year after the RS5 Cabriolet, RS6 Avant and the RS7, and while UK and Germany sales have been confirmed, there is no word as to whether we can expect this high-performance CUV to be available in the North America.

Sharing its 2.5-liter turbocharged and direct-injected five-cylinder engine with models like the TT RS and the RS3 Sportback, the 2014 Audi RS Q3 should deliver on performance, as it pumps out 310 horsepower and 309 pound-feet of torque (peak torque starting at just 1,500 rpm and running up through 5,200 rpm). This potent engine is paired to Audi’s seven-speed S tronic transmission and Quattro all-wheel drive. Despite its small stature, the RS Q3 still tips the scales at just over 3,800 pounds. Even so, performance figures are still impressive with a limited top of 155 miles per hour and a stated 0-62 mph time of 5.5 seconds. The RS Q3 also gets a sport suspension that has been lowered by 25 millimeters, launch control and weight-saving front rotors with a wave-cut and cross-drilled design gripped by massive eight-piston calipers.

Looking almost identical to what we saw last year in concept form in China, the 2014 RS Q3 looks just as sporty as its spec sheet suggests that it is. Up front, the fascia gets massive air intakes with silver vertical accents and, like other recent RS models, the Quattro emblem is written across the lower air intake. The silver accent motif also continues on the grille surround, mirror caps, roof rails and rear diffuser trim, and the oval exhaust outlet is also an identifying feature of Audi’s RS cars.

Stepping inside the RS Q3, we find more signature RS elements such as a flat-bottomed steering wheel, gray instrument gauges with red needles and upgraded accent trim like the standard piano black (or optional aluminum and carbon fiber) and sport seats highlighted by contrasting cross stitching.

What do you think, should the RS Q3 come here? Have your say in Comments, and keep your eyes peeled for live reveal coverage early next month.
