Assistance w/-44P-270
By RAVC01
I was recently given an RS/6000-44P-270 and am attempting to resurrect it for personal use. My current status is as follows:
1 – Required to restore default boot sequence (floppy, scsi, ethernet),
2 – BOOTP fails, restarting does not help surpass this.
What is the most likely cause of this?
I have three RS/6000-44P-270 manuals (i.e., Setup, Users Guide and, Service) and used these documents to identify the hurdles I have identified to this point.
This current issue suggests AIX cannot be accessed. This suggests to me one of several possibilities and need assistance to reduce this list further to a single source so I can successfully return this box to service.
1 – AIX removed from HD at decommission. Does this make sense? I suspect this is unlikely.
2 – The scsi drive is not being accessed (I should have checked electrical connections but, my current issues suggest drive is connected properly but, may not be functioning properly.
Other interpretations?
Please advise.
Thanks,
Rick

Audi S1 on its way, Audi RS1 probably not
The Audiphiles at Fourtitude have spoken to one of their sources at Audi AG and apparently found out about future iterations of the A1. Seven months ago our spy photographers caught something that had us wondering about an S1, now Fourtitude reports that such a halo model is coming for the 2014 model year.
Not only is it coming, but it will reportedly be called the S1, which means it would partly share a moniker with that of the original World Rally Championship Sport Quattro S1 from 1984 (although S1 in that case meant “Series 1”; the “S” label wasn’t used on production cars until 1990). It’s thought that the S1 would appear when the facelifted A1 arrives, but what’s under the hood is still a secret.
As for something above that, we’re not sure anyone was really expecting an RS1, but some big-engined versions of the A1 like the A1 Quattro have been convincing arguments for more power in the little hatch. On top of that, an A1 decked out like an RS1 with the front scoops, wheels and a large rear wing was spotted by at least one spy photographer. Fourtitude’s source puts that idea in Park, though, saying, “It is a very price sensitive market and (an RS 1) might get too expensive.”

awk – Parsing Autosys JIL
By GnuScripter
The original script is as follows:
awk -F ' *[[:alnum:]_]*: *' 'BEGIN {h="insert_job;box_name;command;owner;permission;condition;description;std_out_file;std_err_file;alarm_if_fail"; print h; n=split(h,F,/;/)}
function pr() {if(F[1] in A) {for(i=1;i<=n;i++)printf "%s%s",A[F[i]],(i<n)?";":RS}}
/insert_job/ {pr(); delete A}
{for(i in F){if($0~"^"F[i])A[F[i]]=$2}}
END {pr()}' infile
The modifications I’m trying to make involve returning any potential token. Everything so far seems to be working except when I try to retrieve the job_type. I’m pretty sure this is because it’s on the same line as the insert_job, but it’s been so long since I’ve worked with Awk, I’m not clear on how to fix it.
Example:
/* ----------------- backupJIL ----------------- */
insert_job: backupJIL job_type: c
command: autorep -J ALL -q > /home/autosys/...p/autosys_jil_bk
machine: machine
owner: autosys@machine
permission: gx,ge,wx,we
date_conditions: 1
days_of_week: tu,we,th,fr,sa
start_times: "17:00"
description: "Daily backup of job definitions"
std_out_file: /tmp/autosys_jil_backup.out
std_err_file: /tmp/autosys_jil_backup.err
alarm_if_fail: 1
Could someone please help?
Thanks!

They Call It TrackSTer: Ken Block–inspired, 350-hp Ford Focus ST [2013 Chicago Auto Show]
By John Lamm
Ken Block, famed rallycross and gymkhana driver, is working with Ford and Los Angeles–based tuner fifteen52 to create a burly Ford Focus ST dubbed the Project Focus TrackSTer. The TrackSTer is the first of an intended three-car lineup that offers stepped levels of performance that range from streetable to full-on competition.
Underhood sits the ST’s 2.0-liter direct-injected turbo four, of course, but it’s been augmented by additional parts from Mountune in England. Those include new forged rods and pistons, plus turbo plumbing and an intercooler to go with a larger Garrett turbocharger. Mountune also supplies the ECU. The car was finished just in time for the Chicago auto show, and power is estimated at 350, but the feeling is that output could be cranked to as much as 400 and still be usable on the street. Torque at this point is 380 lb-ft with the potential for 420. A regular ST has 252 horsepower, so, yeah, this sounds ridiculously fun. (The Popeye forearms will be a bonus.)
Teamed with the Ford six-speed manual gearbox are a Quaife limited-slip diff developed for the Focus ST-R race car and a Centerforce Focus ST-R clutch/pressure plate. The TrackSTer squats lower than stock thanks to a coil-over kit and remote reservoirs developed by fifteen52 and Eibach. The wheels are 9.5×18 fifteen52 Tarmacs. The car also incorporates Ford Racing parts, including a short-throw shifter and a performance exhaust that will soon be available to ST owners. The front brakes have been beefed up with ST-R four-piston calipers from StopTech.
Most prominent among the exterior bits are fender flares derived from those used on the Chinese Touring Car Championship Focus. At the back is a Focus RS wing, while the rear extractor is a modified RS piece. The front splitter, ducts, and grille modifications are by fifteen52. Inside, it’s no surprise to find Recaro seats, a Sparco steering wheel, and a four-point harness.
Interested? Don’t get too anxious. Fifteen52 figures it could be up to year before it will be ready to start pumping out customer TrackSTers and, of course, offers no prices yet. When the firm is ready to take orders, the customer will buy their donor car from a dealer and ship it to fifteen52 for the modifications, as is done with some Shelbyfied Mustangs.
Nissan NISMO RS High-Performance Models Coming Next Year [2013 Chicago Auto Show]
Immediately following the debuts of the 2013 Juke NISMO and 2014 370Z NISMO at the 2013 Chicago auto show, Nissan announced it is working on even-higher-performance NISMO RS models. The harder-core RSs will aim to take regular Nissans into the dynamic stratosphere, and company reps told us to expect the first NISMO RS to arrive next year in the form of a Juke. Nissan, of course, has some experience turning up the wick on the Juke: It’s currently hawking $650,000 Juke-Rs, which feature a 545-hp GT-R drivetrain.
- Photos and Info: 2014 Nissan 370Z NISMO
- First Drive: Nissan Juke-R
- Prototype Drive: Nissan Leaf EV NISMO Race Car
More RS cars will follow, but Nissan wouldn’t confirm exact models. (We’re hoping for a Murano CrossCabriolet RS. We’re not joking.) The 370Z lineup currently offers the only other NISMO-badged model, so we’d wager that it’s next in line for RS-ification, although that conversion might wait until the next generation Z arrives within a couple of years. But Nissan plans to generate more factory NISMO models in the future—as detailed at the bottom of this report—so we’d bet that any newly NISMO’d models likely also will get the RS treatment. We’d also love to see what the company might do to create a GT-R RS.
Given the automaker’s recent infatuation with CVTs at the expense of manuals and its disappointing Versa and Sentra sedans, we’re glad to hear Nissan will expand upon its enthusiast offerings. The proof, of course, will be in the pudding, so we anxiously await our turn behind the wheel of future RS models.

Report: Ford Focus RS Hot-Hatch Likely To Make it Stateside in 2015
The Ford Focus RS has always been Ford’s savior when it comes to having something to put all other hot-hatchbacks to shame. Over many years here in the states we anticipated such a vehicle making it to our side of the pond but with no luck. Recently we got the Focus ST, a rather nice FWD performance hatch but it still isn’t the Focus RS.
A recent report from Britain’s Autocar makes a daring allegation that the RS is a sure thing along with some special Focus RS renderings. The Autocar report never specifies a named source for their claim, which hints at the Ford Focus RS making it to the United States in 2015.
Some sources at Car and Driver, after getting all flustered by Autocar’s accusations, have set out their own investigative forces to pick the minds of Ford who have slowly leaked subtle information – what is thought to be in hopes of influencing corporate decisions to approve future products. With that said, Ford is making moves to introduce new global platforms of their vehicles, which basically reach many shores without too much deviation from its original design. That means if there is a Ford Focus RS in the works, which Car and Driver believes there is, it will make it state side along with the globalized next-generation Edge and Mustang.
Hopefully we can get some additional details and more confirmation on a potential state-side Ford Focus RS as we all dig into this new report.

Reports Hint at Ford Focus RS Return in 2015, Likely Would Come Stateside

The interwebs overfloweth this week with more anxious reports of the return of Ford’s compact giant slayer, the Focus RS. Britain’s Autocar made the boldest claims of the bunch, going so far as to essentially state that the RS is a done deal, tossing in some rendered images to sweeten the story. While the Autocar report neglects to name names, they claim sources at Ford report that the RS is under development, and “sign-off for the project is imminent, dependent on final analysis showing a business case for it to sit beside the new, European-bound Mustang, which is confirmed for 2014.”
Car and Driver has been on the trail of a new Focus RS for a few months now, so we thought we’d reach out to our own sources at Ford for a quick update on the RS situation. First, our insiders were quick to tell us that it’s not uncommon for engineers working on a project to “leak” information in hopes of influencing corporate decisions when it comes time approve a future product, which leads us to believe at least a few Ford engineers are clinging to hopes of a rebirth of the hot-hatch version of the Focus. That said, our sources indicated that if the RS does, in fact, make the jump from fanboy fiction to a genuine showroom artifact, it almost certainly would be a global vehicle, citing the company’s decision to take the Edge and Mustang to Europe as examples of the company’s dedication to the One Ford strategy.
- First Drive: 2013 Ford Focus ST
- Comparison Test: 2013 Ford Focus ST vs. 2012 Volkswagen GTI
- Instrumented Test: 2013 Ford Mustang V-6 Premium
One of the most-talked-about hurdles to the fruition of a new Focus RS is how it would sit in Ford’s lineup alongside the Mustang. If the RS were produced, it likely would produce as much power as a V-6–powered Mustang, and the pair’s prices wouldn’t differ too much, either. However, Autocar reports that Ford sees these cars satisfying two different market, calling them “complementary” to one another.

BMW’s M Division Pondering Higher-Performance Variants To Compete with AMG’s Black Series
By Darryl
BMW’s M GmbH high-performance division may be considering higher-performance variants as an answer to AMG’s Black Series and even Audi’s RS-line vehicles. This news comes out of the rumor mill churning from BMW spokesman Matt Russell stating that the company will not rule out high-performance, ultra-exclusive derivatives, such as the M3 CSL, M3 GTS or the M3 CRT. Just like these vehicles marketed in the past, the high-performance variations should be in limited numbers making them exclusive and highly sought-after models. Only this time they should be readily available in the U.S.
Russell also added that “we are not announcing any kind of sub-line or sub-segment, other than M Performance automobiles.” The M Performance Line, which was already launched in Europe last year, will be slotted below the M models but have significant M – engineered upgrades. You can think of a high-performance variant of the M models to one-up standard M models with added power, different chassis dynamics and visual but functional improvements. The lineup should make its way to US shores to compete with Benz’s Black Series models hopefully after the introduction of the next M3/M4. Let’s keep our fingers crossed on this one!
