Official: Infiniti announces pricing for 2014 QX60 and QX70

By Jeffrey N. Ross

Filed under:

With the exception of the G37, customers walking into Infiniti showrooms this summer are going to see a bunch of different names pop up as the automaker switches to its new Q-for-car and QX-for-crossover/SUV naming convention for 2014. The first of these renamed models are the 2014 QX60 (which replaces the JX) starting at $41,550* and the 2014 QX70 (which replaces the FX) priced at $44,950* (*prices do not include $995 for destination), and both are on sale now.

Compared to the outgoing models, the new QX60 (seen above, click to enlarge) lineup starts $300 more than the outgoing JX models (base and AWD), while pricing for the QX70 will remain the same as the trio of 2013 FX models (FX37, FX37 AWD and FX50). What is still unclear is how much the all-new QX60 Hybrid model will cost or how much option and package pricing will change, if any. Scroll down for more info on the new QX60 and QX70 crossovers.

The Infiniti Crossovers Formerly Known as FX and JX, the QX60 and QX70, Priced for 2014

By Alexander Stoklosa

2014 Infiniti QX60

The 2014 Infiniti QX60 a.k.a. the 2013 JX35.

What looks and drives just like an Infiniti JX or FX, but isn’t entirely either? Why, the 2014 QX60 and QX70, of course! Recall that the three-row JX and sporty FX crossovers switch to the QX60 and QX70 names, respectively, for 2014 as part of Infiniti’s dubious strategy to remold its image. Based on pricing information Infiniti has released for the 2014 QX60 and QX70, the two also are priced pretty similarly to the JX and FX they replace.

In fact, the rear-drive QX70 3.7, which is the rebadged version of last year’s six-cylinder FX37, starts at the same $45,945. Same goes for the $47,395 all-wheel-drive QX70 3.7 and $62,495 V-8–powered QX70 5.0 AWD. Literally nothing about the QX70 differs from the FX37 or FX50, which were already refreshed for 2013. Buyers can still spec a host of option packages, including the $4300 Premium package, $3300 Deluxe Touring package, and $2950 Technology package for 3.7 models, as well as the $6250 Sport Technology package on 5.0 models.

2013 Infiniti FX37

The 2014 Infiniti QX70 should look exactly like this 2013 FX37, but with different badges.

As for the QX60, it is simply a renamed JX35; prices for the QX60 increase slightly over its 2013 JX counterpart. The front-drive QX60 starts at $42,545 and the all-wheel-drive model starts at $43,945—both stickers are $300 higher than last year. Also, as with the QX70, the QX60′s option sheet carries over from last year unchanged. Buyers can again spec a $1550 Premium package, a $3000 Premium Plus package, a $1700 Theater package, a $1900 Driver Assistance package, a $3450 Deluxe Touring package, and a $2800 Technology package. Curiously, Infiniti did not release pricing for the recently announced QX60 hybrid variant, which also is a 2014 model, but we suspect that info will be announced soon. Both the 2014 QX60 and QX70 are on sale now.

According to The New York Post, Norman Pardo, Simpson’s promoter, pitched the idea to a production executive on the FX series in advance of Simpson’s release from prison. Pardo said the show is interested.

“O.J. would play a thinly veiled version of himself — a famous con who’s pissed off about being unjustly incarcerated,” Pardo said.

Clinton, 'Normal' honored at GLAAD awards

NBC‘s sitcom “The New Normal,” FX‘s thriller “American Horror Story: Asylum” and NBC‘s daytime drama “Days of Our Lives” took home top TV honors at the 24th annual GLAAD Media Awards held Saturday night in Los Angeles.

The GLAAD awards pay tribute to “inclusive representations of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community and the issues that affect their lives.”

The event, hosted by actress-producer-director Drew Barrymore, boasted such Hollywood heavyweights as presenters Jennifer Morrison, Charlize Theron, Betty White and Leonardo DiCaprio.

Other winners included “Perks of Being a Wallflower,” which was named outstanding film: wide release, and former President Bill Clinton was given the first advocate for change award.

On the arrivals line, longtime Clinton friend, Oscar-winner Mary Steenburgen, defended the former president’s controversial honor. Under Clinton’s administration came the Defense of Marriage Act, which bars federal recognition of same-sex marriage, as well as the “don’t ask, don’t tell” military policy.

“Actually, (“don’t ask, don’t tell”) was a sorrow for him,” Steenburgen said. “So, I think he’s spent a large part of his life making up for that. But I tell you this: He’s never not had his heart in the right place, in terms of the gay community.”

Many who walked the press gauntlet shared personal stories. Actor Justin Bartha said a brother’s coming out moved him both personally and professionally.

“It was an inspiring moment — I’m sure for him and definitely me and my whole family,” Bartha noted. “So, it was at the forefront of my mind when looking at (the role of half of a gay couple in “The New Normal”).”

“Kyle XY” actor Matt Dallas discussed his decision to come out publicly earlier this year. MSNBC news anchor Thomas Roberts talked about the recent marriage to his male partner of 12 years. Entertainment blogger Perez Hilton detailed the challenges of being the single gay parent of newly adopted child.

And transgendered Chaz Bono expressed hopes for the gay lesbian bisexual transgender community’s future.

“I mean, I think the goal always has to be equality in all aspects under the law,” he said. “You’re never going to eradicate discrimination. We see that with other minorities. Racism is still, unfortunately, alive and well. But equal

What If Netflix Has a Flop on Its Hands?

By Rick Munarriz, The Motley Fool

Filed under:

Netflix is in a good groove these days.

Goldman Sachs bumped its target on the shares from $125 to $184 on Thursday, encouraged by Netflix’s widening addressable market — not just the 84.2 million U.S. homes with broadband connectivity, but the fact that Netflix is now a viable subscription option for those embracing Web-enabled mobile devices.

Netflix CEO Reed Hastings tooted his own company’s horn on Thursday, pointing out in a Facebook status update that the service delivered 4 billion hours of content through the first three months of the year.

Then we have a catalyst that has yet to play out. Hemlock Grove — the latest show that will be exclusively available on Netflix for the time being — begins streaming next weekend. After February’s wildly successful House of Cards, if Netflix can nab another magnetic property, it will be that much harder for folks to cancel subscriptions between programming lulls. Netflix will have proved itself worthy of scoring magnetic content, and the comparison’s with Time Warner‘s HBO will be even more apropos.

Is Netflix on the same level as HBO? Not exactly. As anyone knows who has seen House of Cards available as a DVD preorder on rival Amazon.com , Netflix is often merely paying for exclusive streaming rights or just the benefit of carrying a particular show first. If it’s a hit, it may very well be made available through other outlets down the line.

But what if we don’t get that far with these next shows? What if Hemlock Grove isn’t scary? What if Arrested Development‘s fourth season next month isn’t funny?

We may not be dealing with hypothetical questions here.

“Weird can be good, but this isn’t intentionally weird so much as it is plain bad,” reads a scathing Hollywood Reporter review of Hemlock Grove from Tim Goodman.

Let’s be fair here. Goodman also panned the similarly creepy American Horror Story, the sleeper gothic horror hit of 2011 where the Harmon family moved into a haunted house — and paid the price.

“Unlike the Harmons, watching what goes on in that house even once is enough to know better than to go back again,” he concluded.

He was wrong then. The show fared well on FX and went on to have a second season. Maybe he’s wrong this time, too. Then again, maybe it’s better for Netflix if Goodman is right. Netflix will have some duds on its hands. That’s inevitable.

Amazon is in the process of greenlighting a bunch of pilots. It will then see which ones are fit to bankroll complete seasons for based on the streaming audience’s initial reaction. However, even that hurdle won’t guarantee that Amazon won’t have some clunkers of its own.

Netflix has more money to spend than anybody else on streaming content, because it can justify the content land grab as it spreads it around its 33.2 million streaming accounts worldwide. However, when a show falls

2013 Infiniti FX37 AWD Tested: A More Powerful Engine Brings Identical Performance

By Alexander Stoklosa

Autoblog Podcast graphic

Infiniti’s sporty FX crossover has had a busy two years, receiving a face lift for 2012 before swapping its base 3.5-liter V-6 engine for a 3.7-liter for 2013. Besides adding more power, the new V-6 brings a displacement-driven name swap from FX35 to FX37. Even more flux is on the horizon, thanks to Infiniti’s recently announced lineup-wide naming overhaul. Next year the FX37 becomes the QX70; confusingly, the same badge will be applied to the V-8–powered FX50, and the moniker change isn’t expected to coincide with a redesign or update. To those reading this review of the FX37 in 2014, simply replace any mention of FX37 with QX70. READ MORE ››

Carlton Cuse and Kerry Ehrin executive produce Bates Motel. The busy Cuse has a couple of other projects in development, including The Strain at FX, from Guillermo del Toro.

Said A&E’s president Bob DeBitetto, “Bates Motel has garnered critical acclaim and a loyal audience in its first few weeks. ‘Justified’ Season 4 Finale: Graham Yost Talks Ava’s Fate, Patton Oswalt’s Return And More Season 5 Plans

By The Huffington Post News Editors

The “Justified” Season 4 finale was quieter than most of of the FX show’s bloody denouements, but there was still plenty of upheaval in Harlan County on Tuesday night.

The biggest development of the hour saw Ava (Joelle Carter) dragged off to jail (admittedly for a crime that she did commit) as collateral damage in boyfriend Boyd’s (Walton Goggins) rivalry with Lee Paxton (Sam Anderson) and his dirty deputy Nick Moonie (William Gregory Lee).

According to showrunner Graham Yost, we will see Ava in prison in Season 5. “What is life going to be like for Ava behind bars? What are the conflicts going to be? What is she going to do to survive? She strikes me as someone who’d just try and keep her head down and do her time and get out, but chances are she won’t be allowed to do that,” Yost told TVLine about her impending sentence.

‘Justified’ Finale: Timothy Olyphant On Raylan And Boyd’s Dynamic, His Relationship With Winona And More

By The Huffington Post News Editors

The Season 4 “Justified” finale airs April 2 at 10 p.m. ET on FX, and tensions have reached their boiling point between Deputy U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens (Timothy Olyphant) and the Detroit mob, with Raylan’s pregnant ex-wife Winona (Natalie Zea) caught in the crossfire.

The Huffington Post caught up with Olyphant back in January to discuss the trajectory of the season and his experience filming the critically acclaimed series, which was recently renewed for a fifth season. There are no spoilers below, but Olyphant, who is also an executive producer on “Justified,” shared some fascinating insight into both the production of the show, Raylan’s dynamic with his longtime rival, the inimitable Boyd Crowder (Walton Goggins), and what about the show keeps challenging him, even after four years.

You’re an executive producer on “Justified,” and I feel like it varies from show to show in terms of how much input actors who are also executive producers actually have. Can you talk a little about your experience in that capacity?
