Alan Moore Talks LXG TV Series

Comic book writer Alan Moore is notorious for not approving of let alone liking any of Hollywood’s adaptations of his graphic novels. So it shouldn’t really come as any surprise then that he’s not keen on the news that FOX is developing his comic book The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen as a television series, this after it was already turned into a less than celebrated feature film.

In a chat with Entertainment Weekly, Moore said “the modern entertainment industry clearly (has) no ideas of its own and having to go through dust bins and spittoons in the dead of night to recycle things.”

By Evann Gastaldo Looks like Angus T. Jones won’t be returning to the show he referred to as “filth,” at least not full-time. Guess What's Missing From Man of Steel?

Director Zack Snyder talks up his upcoming Superman reboot Man of Steel in the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly, dropping a mini-bombshell on a key piece of the superhero’s mythology that’s been excluded from the movie.

“I’ll be honest with you, there’s no Kryptonite in the movie,” Snyder said. Man of Steel hopes to humanize Superman, but by giving him new flaws and vulnerabilities. Superman actor Henry Cavill said, “Although he is not susceptible to the frailties of mankind, he is definitely susceptible to the emotional frailties.”

Interestingly, EW also saw footage from the film and reveals that in the movie little Kal-El is special even on his doomed home planet of Krypton, where his birth is said to cause alarm among some citizens.

‘Game Of Thrones’ Cast Teases What’s To Come In Season 3

By The Huffington Post News Editors

You may think you know how brutal HBO’s beautiful dark twisted fantasy Game of Thrones can get, but to paraphrase Wildling temptress Ygritte: “You know nothing about season 3.” Based on roughly the first half of the third novel in George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series, the fan-favorite A Storm of Swords, this season continues the ultra-complex story of rival families vying for power in a fantasy kingdom where winter and summer last for years. It includes some of the most rousing jump-off-the-couch moments of triumph in the saga’s five-books-and-counting history — as well as its most bloody casualties. In geek terms: It’s The Empire Strikes Back of the Thrones-verse. “Emotionally, this season really goes for the jugular,” Thrones executive story editor Bryan Cogman tells Entertainment Weekly in this week’s issue. “In some cases, quite literally.”

Star Wars' Original Cast a Death Star for Disney?

By Steve Symington, The Motley Fool

Filed under:

Earlier this week, the entertainment world was abuzz with excitement following comments from Star Wars actress Carrie Fisher — also known as Princess Leia.

The rumor mill
But first, here’s some background for those of you who haven’t been keeping track.

Star Wars rumors have been swirling since last November, when Disney acquired Lucasfilm for $4 billion and wasted no time announcing plans for a Star Wars: Episode VII movie, slated for release in 2015.

Shortly afterward, a “highly placed source” told Entertainment Weekly that Fisher, Harrison Ford, and Mark Hamill were all “upbeat” about the prospects of reprising their respective roles as Princess Leia, Han Solo, and Luke Skywalker.

Commence nerdy meltdowns:

Now fast-forward to this week.

When asked during an interview if she could confirm whether she would return to as Leia in the new sequelFisher simply replied, “Yes.” Then she jokingly suggested Leia will be elderly, “in an intergalactic old folks’ home, [and] just like she was before, only slower and less inclined to be up for the big battle.”

Of course, Fisher’s rep later quickly tried to douse the rumors, insisting she was only kidding about the role.

Meet your maker
Then George Lucas himself stepped out and matter-of-factly told Bloomberg Businessweek that Hamill, Fisher, and Ford are ready to suit up. Apparently, according to Lucas, all three were on board even before Disney’s acquisition of his company:

We had already signed Mark and Carrie and Harrison — or we were pretty much in the final stages of negotiation. Maybe I’m not supposed to say that. I think they want to announce that with some big whoop-de-do, but we were negotiating with them. I won’t say whether negotiations were successful or not.

It’s OK, George. We forgive you.

But this is an investing site, right?
So who wins in this scenario? Arguably everyone.

Aside from the fact Fisher, Hamill, and Ford were almost certainly lured in part by massive paydays, it’s safe to say Disney probably knows better than any other company the long-term value of stirring excitement for an iconic brand.

In fact, that’s one big reason I recently offered Disney as a viable option for investors looking for stocks to hold for the next 50 years

Fortunately for Disney investors, its most recent big buy is looking like an even better deal by the day; just last week, Disney also announced that it’s working on two additional Star Wars character-specific spin-off movies to be released after Episode VII. With more than 17,000 Star Wars characters in the Star Wars Universe from several thousand planets covering a span of 20,000 years, Disney has plenty of new material on which to chew — and a loyal fan base that’ll eat up every bit of it.

If that weren’t enough, thanks to Disney’s $4 billion acquisition in 2009 of comics powerhouse Marvel — which boasts its own library of more than 9,000 characters — the House of Mouse has a whole …read more

Han Solo, Boba Fett Standalone Movies?

Another day, another Star Wars movie rumor. But this one’s a doozy.

Entertainment Weekly reports that there are two potential spinoff movies in early stages of development at Lucasfilm: “A young Han Solo saga, focusing on the wisecracking smuggler’s origin story, and a bounty hunter adventure with Boba Fett at the center of a rogue’s gallery of galactic scum.”

More from EW:

“The Han Solo story would take place in the time period between Revenge of the Sith and the first Star Wars (now known as A New Hope), so although it’s possible Harrison Ford could appear as a framing device, the movie would require a new actor for the lead — one presumably much younger than even the 35-year-old Ford when he appeared in the 1977 original. The Boba Fett film would take place either between A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back, or between Empire and Jedi, where the bounty hunter was last seen plunging unceremoniously into a sarlacc pit. Exactly who would play him isn’t much of a complication – in the original trilogy, he never took off his helmet. And in the prequels, we learned he was the son of the original stormtrooper clone, played by Temuera Morrison, who’s still the right age for the part if his services were required.”

Iron Man's Going to the Super Bowl

Shellhead’s reportedly coming to the Super Bowl.

Variety reporter Marc Graser tweets that Disney has bought air time during this Sunday’s Super Bowl XLVII to run spots for not only Iron Man 3, but also The Lone Ranger and Oz the Great and Powerful.

Meanwhile, Robert Downey Jr., is out promoting Iron Man 3 this week. In the first part of an extended interview with Entertainment Weekly, Downey raved about an action set-piece for the film they’ve dubbed the Boot/Glove Sequence. “It’s where Tony only has one gauntlet and one boot and he has to escape multiple captors. It’s really fun, dude,” said Downey. “We’re taking everything from his first gauntlet test in the first movie up through the most extreme stuff we thought up for Iron Man 2 and The Avengers and pulling on all of it and making this one big, extended challenge of physics.”

The Wolverine Director on the Film's Chronology

In a recent interview, director James Mangold explained his process for approaching his latest film The Wolverine, which centers on Logan (Hugh Jackman) in Japan and his complicated past, present and future. Of course, what’s really interesting is that — unlike Wolverine’s previous solo film — Mangold’s story takes place after the events of X-Men: The Last Stand. But just how tied is The Wolverine to the X-Men films?

“It’s set after X-Men 3, but I wouldn’t call it a sequel to X-Men 3,” Mangold told Entertainment Weekly. “You have a choice the second you enter a world like this with a huge amount of comic books, backstories, three movies, a Wolverine origins movie… You have decide where you’re going to exist in relation to all these other things, particularly if you’re working with an actor who actually played the character in other films.”
