John Williams, Outsider Artist, Creates Moving Historical Collages (PHOTOS, INTERVIEW)

By The Huffington Post News Editors

John Williams enters the room in a formal button down blouse, a hefty portfolio tucked under his arm. When he speaks, words tumble out, both his passion and nerves on display without pretense. His eyes light up as he unveils and explains his work, though eye contact is rare. Williams is a collage artist and history buff who has struggled with Asperger’s Syndrome throughout his life.

Williams’ collages depict historical figures, scenes and landscapes out of clippings relevant to his subjects. Drawing from websites, magazines, calendars and other sources, Williams scavenges a likeness and a narrative that turn his crafty technique into a dramatic and monumental art form. Subjects range from President Obama to Sacagawea and John Brown, each face a pastiche of relevant documents, placed just so to heighten emotion and likeness.

Zimmer on Williams' Superman Theme

Between Batman and Superman, composer Hans Zimmer has had the unique opportunity of scoring two of pop culture’s most iconic heroes for the big screen.

With the Dark Knight Trilogy, Zimmer redefined the way we hear Batman, turning Danny Elfman‘s classic ’89 theme on its head and delivering something completely different. In a recent interview with CNN, Zimmer revealed that he was quite nervous to do the same with John Williams‘ classic Superman theme in this summer’s Man of Steel.

“That was daunting,” Zimmer confessed. “Seriously. He’s the greatest film composer out there, without a doubt, and it happens to be one of his iconic pieces of music, so I spent three months just procrastinating and not even getting a start on the thing, because I was so intimidated: ‘Oh my God, I’m following in John Williams‘ footsteps.'”

Video: Angry giraffe frightens vacationers on safari in Jurassic Park-style chase

By Jeffrey N. Ross

Angry giraffe chases safari-goers in an open-top truck - video screencap

Filed under:

Step aside Steven Spielberg, here’s a real-life animal-versus-car that did not require CGI nor a multi-million dollar production budget. As some vacationers on safari in South Africa recently learned, an upset 13-foot tall giraffe can be just as terrifying as the Tyrannosaurus Rex that chased down Jeff Goldblum and a Jeep Wrangler in the 1993 blockbuster film Jurassic Park.

According to reports, the safari group was photographing a wild giraffe, when for some reason, the animal began to chase the open-top vehicle at speeds upwards of 30 miles per hour. At one point, the giraffe even sideswipes the truck, knocking off the side mirror before the driver was finally able to escape the animal’s pursuit. All that’s missing is a little John Williams music bed.

Scroll down to watch two news reports showing the dramatic chase, an incident we’re sure the safari-goers will remember for years to come.

John Williams to Return for More Star Wars?

Original Star Wars composer John Williams would like to work on the new trilogy, according to a report from ComingSoon.Net.

The report comes via a member of the John Williams Fan network, who saw Williams conducting the Young Musician’s Foundation Debut Orchestra live in concert recently. Before stirring the audience with the Star Wars theme, Williams apparently said the following:

“We’re about to play Star Wars

and each time we play it, I’m reminded of the first time we played it decades ago. Neither I, nor George, nor anyone else involved thought this would go far or in a few years there would be a sequel and I’d have to revisit the themes…and years later another trilogy. Now we’re hearing of a new set of movies coming in 2015, 2016…so I need to make sure I’m still ready to go in a few years for what I hope would be continued work with George…
