By The Huffington Post News Editors

WASHINGTON — The nonpartisan budget scorekeeper for Congress says the Obama administration’s recent decision to delay a health law requirement for larger employers to offer coverage will cost the government $10 billion in fines that won’t be collected.

But the Congressional Budget Office says that’s a relatively small amount.

By The Huffington Post News Editors

— The website that served as Pfc. Bradley Manning’s conduit for spilled U.S. secrets is describing his espionage convictions as “dangerous national security extremism from the Obama administration.”

That was the immediate response from WikiLeaks on Twitter after Manning was found convicted Tuesday on six espionage counts and other offenses but cleared of the most serious charge, aiding the enemy. Others who considered Manning wrongly charged had a measured response.

The Governor Of New Jersey Is A Traitor

By Allan Erickson

Chris Christie SC 1024x781 The governor of New Jersey is a traitor

If it is true that conservatives (i.e. patriots) must unify to defeat Obot forces arrayed to destroy America, then the governor of New Jersey is a sellout at best, a traitor more likely.  Defenders of liberty, which depends upon America’s founding principles, ought to be outraged.

Gov. Chris Christie, the latest Democrat in Lincoln clothing, last week called Sen. Rand Paul’s thinking on national security and civil rights “dangerous.”  He condemned Paul and others for engaging in “esoteric, intellectual debates” critical of government surveillance and the war on terrorism.

In doing so, Christie continues his tradition of holding hands with Obama and schmoozing for position in view of 2016.  If debating security versus liberty and working to strike the appropriate balance is a heady discussion confined to a small group with special knowledge (the definition of “esoteric”), then Christie must believe that most Americans are too dumb and too uninformed to participate; and Sen. Paul’s efforts to enlighten The People amounts to a misguided and dangerous endeavor.   This makes Christie an arrogant elitist.  No wonder his finds Obama kindred.

Strange to learn the governor sides with Obama against efforts to preserve liberty and in favor of policies that shred the Constitution, as if The People are accessories.  Why? Christie makes the age-old mistake: he trusts human nature.  He believes if government is given enormous power, it will use that power to protect us, not turn on us.  History contradicts this illusion time and again, and the Founders made clear.  This is precisely why the core of Americanism is limited government: a central government restrained by the rule of law, the consent of the governed, and three co-equal branches checking and balancing the power of each branch.  Sen. Paul understands human nature and the core of Americanism.

Sen. Paul took to the floor of the Senate not long ago, filibustering for 13 hours, challenging Obama on the use of drones, and forcing the president to issue a statement promising not to kill Americans with drones on American soil.  Killing Americans overseas is something Obama reserves as a presidential prerogative.  Indeed, Obama has been responsible for killing civilians overseas using drones, many hundreds, perhaps thousands of men, women, and children.  But you’ll never hear about that on MSNBC or from the press office of the New Jersey governor.

Sen. Paul has also challenged the Obama/Christie idea that the federal government has a right to spy on citizens.  He has simply called for review and appropriate adjustments to accomplish the dual purposes of protecting American liberty and providing for national defense.  Overreach by the NSA and other agencies under the control of a man like Obama are sufficient reasons for alarm, and significant majorities agree with Sen. Paul and others who work to strike the right balance.

Christie appears only interested in working to promote his political career, even if it means attacking those he should be working with in the interest of saving the country.  Instead, he appears at the GOP nominating convention to egotistically engage self-promotion …read more

Detroit Proposes Using Obamacare As Bailout

Obamacare To Die For Shipping SC Detroit Proposes Using Obamacare as Bailout

Detroit spent all its money and then some, and now it plans to solve its financial woes by dipping its hands more deeply into the federal purse.

Treasury Secretary Jack Lew said on Sunday that a direct federal bailout for the bankrupt Motor City is out of the question, but Detroit has something else in mind.

FoxNews reports the city has $5.7 billion in outstanding retiree health costs, and plans to take retirees too young to qualify for Medicare and send them into the ObamaCare insurance markets, thus increasing the burden on the federal government, with subsidies from ObamaCare being provided by federal taxpayers.

How Does This Work, Obama To Cut Business Taxes By Increasing Business Tax Revenues

By Tim Worstall, Contributor President Obama is giving a speech today in which he’ll propose a grand bargain to get America  working again. Sounds like a good idea so what’s the meat of it? Amazingly, it seems that the President is going to propose lowering business taxation while at the same time raising the amount of revenue coming from business taxation. Now if this was with reference to the Laffer Curve or one of the other theories about the undesirability of corporate and capital taxation in general (such as those of the Nobel Laureate Sir John Mirrlees) then it might not only be a plan but a good one. Unfortunately that doesn’t seem to be what is on offer. Obama long has called for a cut in corporate tax rates, but previously insisted such business tax reform be coupled with an individual tax overhaul. He’s dropping that demand and says instead that he’s open to the corporate tax cut that that businesses crave. OK, cutting the corporate tax rate, that’s a good idea. The statutory rate in the US is well above world and OECD average and can, depending upon how you want to look at it, be described as the world’s highest. But he wants it to be coupled with a significant investment on some sort of job creation program, such as manufacturing, infrastructure or community colleges. That will of course require some new amount of revenue. And even those various theories that say that a low or lower corporate tax rate will indeed grow the economy faster, thus in time producing higher tax revenue, those theories do say that this will take some time. So, in the short term, where are those extra revenues going to come from? The officials said money to pay for the jobs creation would come from a one-time revenue boost from measures such as changing depreciation rules or having a one-time fee on earnings held overseas. Either or both of those mean business paying more in tax than they do currently. And the extra “one-time boost” to revenues will necessarily be the extra amount that businesses will be paying in the future under this new proposal. …read more

Barack Obama Has Been Talking About Helping The Middle Class Since 2008

By Robert Lenzner, Forbes Staff The President promised the New York Times he would talk about jobs, the economy, and the middle class once a week for the remainder of 2013. But, just talking won’t create jobs, grow the economy or strengthen the middle class. No; what Obama needs today is a bold fiscal policy of stimulus that will by dint of spending create jobs, raise median take-home pay and bulwark the middle class. And he probably can’t do that unless he gets closer to balancing the budget deficit. …read more
