Adam Levine and Behati Prinsloo Are Engaged!

By Brittney Stephens

Adam Levine and Victoria’s Secret Angel Behati Prinsloo are engaged, People reports. The singer’s rep released a statement today, saying, “Adam Levine and his girlfriend Behati Prinsloo are excited to announce they are engaged to be married,” adding, “The couple recently reunited and Adam proposed this weekend in Los Angeles.”

Adam and Behati began dating in May 2012 and split earlier this year. Soon after, Adam was briefly linked to another Victoria’s Secret model, Nina Agdal – they were spotted at the end of June on vacation together in Los Cabos, Mexico, where they played volleyball and relaxed by the pool with friends. Though Nina and Adam may have parted ways, it definitely looks like Adam and Behati have reunited for good. Congratulations to the happy couple!

Marriage And Financial Inequality: Why Gay And Lesbian Couples Pay More

By The Huffington Post News Editors

It was a day many couples dream of for Mignon R. Moore, 42, and Elaine Harley, 43, who exchanged wedding vows at a beachside ceremony in Los Cabos, Mexico, in 2012. The native New Yorkers marked their 10-year relationship by obtaining a marriage license from the state. Unfortunately, they are not receiving all the benefits of a legal marriage because they have been living in Los Angeles for the past six years, where they are recognized not as spouses but as domestic partners.

“We only had a small window of time to get married in California before Prop 8 [the ballot initiative that stripped same-sex marriage], so we never got the opportunity,” says Moore, an associate professor at the University of California, Los Angeles.

Most people take for granted the financial safety net a legal marriage creates, says attorney Camilla Taylor, Marriage Project director at Lambda Legal, a national organization advocating for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people and people with HIV.

Mexico's new tourism minister assassinated

The recently appointed tourism minister in western Jalisco state was shot to death Saturday while driving in a suburb of Guadalajara in an attack that may have been related to his business dealings, authorities said.

Jose de Jesus Gallegos Alvarez was shot with a 9-mm pistol during a chase as he drove his Toyota SUV in Zapopan, State Government General Secretary Arturo Zamora said.

He said preliminary investigations indicated the attack was not related to Gallegos’ work promoting tourism. Jalisco is home to Guadalajara, Mexico‘s second-largest city, as well as such popular Mexican traditions as mariachi music and tequila.

The attack may have had to do with his private business dealings, Zamora said.

“We are working to resolve this case to the ultimate consequences,” he said. “The state will not allow such acts.”

Gallegos was to serve under new Gov. Aristoteles Sandoval, who was just sworn in March 1.

According to profile material, Gallegos, an engineer, was founder and president of Jegal Project and Construction Management, a key developer of the Mayan Resorts and several condominium towers in Guadalajara and resort cities such as Acapulco, Los Cabos and Puerto Vallarta.

Local political and police officials are often targets of assassinations in Mexico, but rarely tourism officials.

President Enrique Pena Nieto condemned the attack in his Twitter account and said he had ordered a thorough investigation to bring those responsible to justice.

The Cool Kid In Cabo: Capella Pedregal, Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

By Ann Abel, Contributor As hotel arrivals go, the one at Capella Pedregal is pretty spectacular. About 45 minutes from the Los Cabos airport, you reach a tunnel that cuts 300 meters through a mountain. On the far side is the grand entrance to a Mexican beach resort—outsize adobe buildings, star-shaped glass lanterns, reflecting pools, and torches—and behind it, in the Pacific, humpback whales breaching as if as on cue.
