Comic-Con: Simpsons/Futurama Crossover Announced

With The Simpsons entering their 25th year on the air, creator Matt Groening, executive producer Al Jean, supervising director Mike Anderson, consulting producer David Silverman and actor Tress MacNeille sat in on the panel in front of a packed auditorium.

First up was a special opening sequence directed by Guillermo del Toro, which packed in virtually every horror movie character or scenario in a few minutes along with parodies of several of del Toro’s own films. Set you DVR now, since it’ll take many viewings to try catching all the jokes.

On the heels of finding out that the Simpsons will appear on Family Guy, the big announcement today is that there will be a Futurama crossover episode of The Simpsons, which was welcome news to attendees. That episode of The Simpsons will record next month and either air as the Season 25 finale next May or the Season 26 premiere fall 2014. Other guest stars for the upcoming season will include Kristen Wiig, Zach Galifianakis, Elisabeth Moss, Stan Lee and Harlan Ellison.

Kentucky Climate Deniers: Fitz Steele, Stan Lee Say Climate Change Not In Humans’ Control

By The Huffington Post News Editors

Climate change denial is getting some bipartisan support in the Kentucky Legislature following President Barack Obama‘s landmark climate change speech last month.

During a committee meeting on natural resources and the environment on Tuesday, the state’s leading energy official warned that Obama‘s climate change plans could mean higher energy prices. Several state lawmakers seized the opportunity to criticize the widely accepted and scientifically proven environmental changes, according to the Lexington Herald-Leader.

“The climate’s always going to change,” Republican state Rep. Stan Lee said. “We’re not in control of this world. … There is one who is in control but it ain’t any of us. And to think that we can change what he created I think is short-sighted and foolish.”

Listen Up, NBC … Stan Lee Wants Olympic Pole Dancing

By John Clarke, Contributor

If NBC wants improved Olympics ratings, they should listen to Stan Lee, the legendary founder of Marvel Comics who recently suggested — no, demanded — that the Olympics add pole dancing. And if they did add pole dancing, the sport (sport?) would guarantee ratings gold. “There’s something that is so obvious that everyone and everybody should have thought about it — pole dancing,” Lee says in one of his “Stan’s Rants” YouTube videos spotted by Deadspin. “Why isn’t pole dancing an Olympic event? They have everything else. Dancing around that pole and hugging it and swinging on it and doing all those things … that’s like the sexiest gymnastics of all. We love it. Everybody loves it.” …read more

By Nathan Vardi, Forbes Staff For the last few years Michael Wolk has quietly worked to advance the multi-billion dollar copyright infringement lawsuit that claims Walt Disney Co. does not own the rights to iconic Stan Lee-created superhero characters it acquired from Marvel Entertainment, like Spider-Man, X-Men, The Incredible Hulk and The Fantastic Four. Before Wolk got involved, the minority shareholders of a company Lee founded in the 1990s had for a long time unsuccessfully litigated over these characters, but Wolk has not been dissuaded.

Director Discusses Doctor Strange Movie

Roman Coppola has been discussing his efforts to make a Doctor Strange movie, stating that he’d be “delighted to take a shot” at the property.

The director previously wanted to cast cousin Nicolas Cage in the title role, and even spoke with Stan Lee about the project, but that effort never got off the ground.

He could yet have his chance however, with Marvel head honcho Kevin Feige recently announcing that the Sorcerer Supreme will be getting his own movie in the studio’s next wave of films.

But Coppola is now worried about the sheer number of superhero movies out there at present.
