PlayStation Is Giving Out Free Money

In what you can only assume is a move to completely make February 20th all about PlayStation, Sony is giving certain PlayStation Network users free money. Just after midnight central time in North America, certain PSN users found the following message in their inboxes along with a PSN code for $10.

No word on what the criteria is for getting the free money, but you’d assume it’s for spending a certain amount of cash on the PlayStation Store as it’s rewarding folks for being “a loyal customer.” Sony has run programs in the past where spending a certain amount got you a certain amount of money back, but they’ve always been advertised.

Telltale's The Walking Dead Classified MA15+ in Australia

Telltale’s critically-acclaimed adventure title The Walking Dead has been classified MA15+ by the Australian Classification Board. The multi-platform rating paves the way for a console release should Telltale choose to proceed with one.

The game has been available via Steam and iOS in Australia for some time thanks to classification loopholes, but console owners missed out since the game required a rating to be distributed on PSN and Xbox Live.

In April last year a Telltale representative confirmed that the developer had no plans to release the game on console in the region, blaming the lack of an adults-only rating in Australia for the decision.

Watch Giant Cats With Laser Eyes Destroy a City

The makers of last year’s hallucinogenic forest-exploring PSN game Datura have made a PC benchmarking tool that tells you how good your PC is – featuring gigantic cats with laser eyes destroying a city to dubstep.

Eurogamer quotes Datura director Michal “Bonzaj” Staniszewski saying the the Catzilla benchmarking tool is an “exercise before future challenges” – though it seems he’s learned something about game design from how popular this video has been. “It just brings so much fun to people. I will remember that when designing our next game.”

God Mode Announced for XBLA, PSN, and PC

Saber Interactive (makers of Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, Inversion, and TimeShift, among others) and subsidiary Old School Games have announced God Mode, a tongue-in-cheek fast-action third-person shooter due out in early 2013 for Xbox Live Arcade, PlayStation Network, and PSN.

Playing as the descendant of an ancient-God-turned-mere-mortal by Hades, you and up to three co-op mode friends (online or offline) must blast your way through the Maze of Hades and its denizens in order to avoid eternal damnation. All the while, you’ll be egged on by a goofy narrator, similar to a wackier version of the “Double Kill” announcer from Halo.

Rockstar’s Bully, Red Dead Revolver and Midnight Club 3 are all available on the PlayStation Network, as of now.

Bully (or Canis Canem Edit, as it was called in Europe and Australia) is my personal favourite Rockstar game ever, an open-world game casting you as a boy trying to survive school. Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition Remix is the third game in Rockstar San Diego‘s racing series, set in Tokyo, Detroit, Atlanta and San Diego. Red Dead Revolver was the first game in the Red Dead series, originally released in 2004.
