Hawthorn Suites by Wyndham in West Palm Beach, Florida Selects Comcast Business Hospitality
Top-ranking hotel upgrades to Comcast Ethernet, TV and voice services to boost performance and improve the guest experience
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.–(BUSINESS WIRE)– Comcast Business, a unit of Comcast Cable, the nation’s largest video, high-speed Internet and phone provider to business and residential customers, today announced that Hawthorn Suites by Wyndham in West Palm Beach, Florida, has selected Comcast Business Hospitality for data, phone and TV services for its 112-suite property. The new Comcast services will increase Internet speeds to 100 Megabits per second (Mbps) using Comcast Ethernet, giving guests faster Internet access for business or personal use while staying at the hotel. The increased speeds will also help the hotel staff to conduct their daily operations more efficiently, and provide the convenience of a single provider for data, voice and video service.
“Our guests expect to check into our property and conduct business day or night,” said William Murray, general manager of the Hawthorn Suites – West Palm Beach. “Because we are an extended-stay hotel, our suites are often used as a remote office for traveling executives. The increased speed from the Comcast service allows our guests to work in their rooms with connection speeds that are the same as what they would have back at their office.”
Hawthorn Suites by Wyndham – West Palm Beach is an extended stay hotel that is located a short distance from Palm Beach International Airport and is conveniently located near many businesses and attractions. It caters to business travelers that are staying in the area for multiple days and people relocating to the area who are looking for temporary housing. The hotel has a top ranking by Trip Advisor – it is currently ranked #1 out of 34 hotels in the Palm Beach area.
Prior to working with Comcast, the hotel had a 3 Mbps service for all of its guests, and 3 Mbps for back office operations, both from another provider. With slow Internet connectivity, they decided to make a change in order to upgrade their technology and remain a top-ranking hotel. After an extensive review of available service providers, Hawthorn Suites selected Comcast Business to provide Ethernet, voice and TV services, which are all part of the Comcast Business Hospitality suite that is designed specifically for the needs of hotels and motels. The additional bandwidth not only gives guests faster Internet speeds, but the staff is able to process credit cards …read more

Fashion designer Lilly Pulitzer Rousseau, known for her tropical print dresses and vividly colored preppy staples, died on Sunday. She was 81.
Her eponymous brand’s Facebook page announced her death early Sunday afternoon in a post saying she “passed away peacefully in Palm Beach, surrounded by family and loved ones. Lilly has been a true inspiration to us and we will miss her. In the days and weeks ahead we will celebrate all that Lilly meant to us. Lilly was a true original who has brought together generations through her bright and happy mark on the world.”
Pulitzer’s mark was bright and happy indeed. Her colorful, playful clothing spoke to the way she lived her life. In addition to designing, she was also renowned for throwing parties in her Palm Beach home. “That’s what life is all about,” she once said. “Let’s have a party. Let’s have it tonight.”

Barrett-Jackson auctioned off the first production 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Convertible in Palm Beach this evening, with the open-top two-seater commanding a huge winning bid of $1,000,000 from Rick Hendrick, owner of NASCAR team Hendrick Motorsports.
While the Geneva Motor Show C7 prototype is pictured above (it also was shown at Barrett-Jackson), Hendrick won rights to the first retail production model (VIN undetermined at this time), allowing him to choose both color and options before his V8 sports car rolls off the assembly line in the near future. Hopefully, by the time that happens, we will all know more about its soft convertible top, double-bubble tonneau and the mechanism that opens and lowers the fully automatic roof at speeds upwards of 30 mph.
It is worth mentioning that proceeds from the sale of this first C7 droptop will benefit the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer institute, one of 40 National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer centers in the United States that strives to prevent, detect and eradicate all forms of cancer. The General Motors Foundation is a longtime supporter of Karmanos, with nearly $6 million in support over the last 15 years.

An appellate court judge has voided a Florida mogul’s adoption of his longtime adult girlfriend.
Third District Court of Appeal Senior Judge Alan R. Schwartz wrote that the adoption of a “paramour” or lover has no purpose and cannot be confirmed by a court.
Forty-nine-year-old John Goodman founded the International Polo Club in Palm Beach. Last year he was sentenced to 16 years in prison for a fatal drunken-driving crash.
A lawyer for the crash victim’s family says Goodman’s 2011 adoption of 42-year-old Heather Laruso Hutchins would shield his fortune. Goodman’s attorneys said he wouldn’t benefit from the adoption of his girlfriend of four years.
The appellate court also ruled Goodman committed fraud by not giving enough notice of the adoption to the mother of his children.

Fresh Styling, More Power And New Confidence
Three years ago, almost to the day, we slid behind the wheel of the all-new Aston Martin Rapide for the very first time.
After unabashedly calling it “the world’s best-looking four-door sedan” – a statement that is as accurate today as it was in 2010 – we piloted the Aston Martin on a meandering route from Miami to our final destination in Palm Beach.
Our conclusion, at the end of a very long day, was that British automaker had built a peerless sedan cleverly disguised as a coupe, and it offered more accommodation and utility than anything else in the automaker’s two-door lineup. With that as its primary mission objective, it excelled. However, in terms of overall performance, our realization was that it fell short.
Enter the Aston Martin Rapide S, a thoroughly refreshed sedan that appears, at first glance, to have addressed our very frustrated concern.

Beaches in Palm Beach, Fla., were temporarily closed after thousands of sharks were reportedly spotted swimming near the shore.
The sharks were first seen on Tuesday and were migrating north after heading south for the winter, marine biologists told NBC Miami.
Lifeguards in Palm Beach say the shark sightings have been occurring daily, and at least 50 to 60 sharks were spotted Tuesday.
On Thursday morning, beaches in the area were re-opened, the Palm Beach Post reports, after no sharks were seen near the shore.
Riviera Beach lifeguard Eddie Green said the sharks like to jump out of the water and come as close as 30 feet to the shoreline.

A police chase on Interstate-95 that spanned four counties, including Broward and Palm Beach, reportedly began with an altercation between a man and a woman and shots being fired at a sergeant, and ended with the suspect driver singing as he was arrested, authorities said Saturday.
The 85-mile police pursuit began between the Ives Dairy Road and Miami Gardens Drive exits of I-95 in Miami-Dade County, and ended just south of Kanner Highway in Martin County.
Martin County Sheriff William Snyder, who was called to the scene at 12:33 a.m. Saturday, said Samal Hammond, 36, was stopped using spike sticks that deflated his van’s tires.

Court records show that Salomon Melgen, the longtime Democratic donor linked to New Jersey Sen. Bob Menendez, provided an oceanfront condominium to a Ukranian model at the center of prostitution allegations lodged against both men.
The Palm Beach Post reported Sunday that Melgen arranged for Svitlana Buchyk to occupy a condo he leased for her on Singer Island near Palm Beach, Florida in 2009.
Melgen’s private jet carried Sen. Menendez to the Dominican Republic on at least three occasions for what an anonymous whistle-blower has alleged were a series of sex parties with prostitutes.
The whistle-blower’s documents, published online in January and first reported by The Daily Caller, included a a list of “some prostitutes involved,” including ”Svetlana B. (Sveta).”
The Florida newspaper found court records showing that the The Condominium Association of Aquarius sued the owner of a condo unit because Buchyk was living there as a long-term visitor. The owner then filed a cross-complaint against Melgen, who leased the residence.

The 2014 Corvette Stingray will debut at the Geneva Motor Show – image: GM Corp
Do you prefer your Corvettes with a view of the sky, and your driving with wind through your hair? Here’s some good news, then: the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray will make its official debut on March 5 at the Geneva Motor Show. Iconic in America, the Corvette is also revered in much of the world, to the point that Chevrolet’s president and managing director for Europe, Susan Docherty, calls the car “the face of Chevrolet the world over.”
Unveiling the Stingray convertible in Switzerland is likely a sign that GM will place greater emphasis on global sales of its halo sports car than in years past. Given the current state of the E.U.’s economy, though, we’re not sure that GM can count on the new Stingray adding much to Chevrolet Europe’s bottom line in 2013. There’s always China, we suppose.
Corvette’s chief engineer, Tadge Juechter, assures fans that the Stingray convertible will be every bit the sports car that the Stingray coupe is. In Juechter’s words, “Every Corvette is designed at the outset as an open car.” Fitting, since that’s how the Corvette began life in 1953.
Following the Stingray convertible’s Geneva debut, the first production car will cross the block at Barrett-Jackson’s Palm Beach, Florida, auction in April. Proceeds from the sale will go to support the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute, and we’re pretty sure that the sale price will rival the $1.05 million paid for the first production 2014 Corvette Stingray at Barrett-Jackson’s Scottsdale, Arizona, auction in January.
By Martin Sosnoff, Contributor If I had all the answers to which way and why for Apple, I would sleep easier. Then I’d get myself one of those $40 million spreads in Palm Beach and live happily ever after. I’d don a blue blazer to throw out my garbage. I can’t spend my day totally focused on one property. But, I’m sure Apple fits the mold of a growth stock long in the tooth.
