GAME Selling eShop Codes Online and In-Store

GAME has become the first European retailer to sell eShop codes for the Wii U and 3DS, both in its physical stores and online through its site.

The retailer has signed an agreement allowing it to be the exclusive store to sell the codes, which are issued via a till receipt if purchased in-store or email if bought online. These are then entered into the respective Nintendo eShop either on 3DS or Wii U.

In some instances, the titles are being offered for lower prices than if you buy them on the eShop itself. Six Wii U games are priced at £41.99, including Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, New Super Mario Bros. U and Lego City Undercover, all of which cost £49.99 if bought on the actual eShop. Similar reductions exist for the 21 3DS eShop games currently available.

Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate Review

Every time a new Monster Hunter games comes out, I think: surely, I must be done with this now. After several hundred hours over at least three versions, I’m not going to get sucked in again. But I do, every time. It’s because Monster Hunter’s world is so absorbing, and the gentle rhythm of prepare, hunt, and collect is so innately satisfying. Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate is the slickest game in the series to date, and it’s an ideal introduction to the hugely enjoyable business of cooperative monster-slaying.

The basic idea is to venture out into the wilds, find an impressive monster, kill it, and then make hats and swords out of its entrails – but there’s a lot more to it than that. There are 12 weapons, hundreds of items, and more than 100 hours’ worth of quests, but it’s the thrill of the chase and the addictive rush of hard-earned victory that continually hooks me in.

Hunting Online With Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate

As fans of Monster Hunter Tri can no doubt attest, a multiplayer game is only as good as its platform, and community allow it to be. Dedicated though the MH faithful may be, the realities of multiplayer gaming on the Wii made forming groups, coordinating strategies, and even basic communication a real chore. But after sitting down for some group hunting action with Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate for the Wii U, I’m happy to say that the fans are about to be vindicated, because the features and capabilities of the new system have allowed Capcom to address pretty much every issue the original faced.

Communication is the foundation of most multiplayer games, especially highly tactical, cooperative experiences like Monster Hunter. In Tri, if you wanted to talk to the rest of your party, you needed to possess a legendary, rare item known in the the real world as the Wii Speak. Good luck finding someone who bought that thing. Thankfully, those dark days are behind us, because Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate supports voice chat natively, right through the Wii U GamePad. But don’t worry if your the type who prefers anonymity, as you’ll have access to a full virtual keyboard to tap away at, as well as an option to plug in any USB keyboard via a day-one patch. With all that functionality baked right in, absolutely everyone who plays online will have a voice.

A Rookie's Journey in Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate

The honest truth about trying Monster Hunter for the first time is that it’s overwhelming. The game, in this case Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate for Wii U, starts off innocently, asking you to fetch various items for your local village. But as the game starts to get going, it rapidly increases in complexity – and has more depth than it even cares to explain right away.

This isn’t just an action game where you rush around maps wildly hacking at creatures. You don’t simply acquire new weapons on the fly. The biggest sword isn’t always the best solution.

I’m learning a lot of this stuff the hard way.

Rather than write my lengthy impressions of the game, however, I’m simply recording them and doing commentary with fellow executive editor (and Monster Hunter Tri reviewer) Charles Onyett. He knows a lot about Monster Hunter. I know nothing. (I also slipped on the game’s release date in the video – it’s March 19, not March 18!)

Resident Evil 6 Sales Cross 4.8 Million

Capcom has revealed that 4.8 million copies of Resident Evil 6 were sold through the end of 2012. The figure comes one month after the company referred to sales as “disappointing,” noting that Resident Evil 6 was likely to fall short of its target of six million units.

According to a Capcom earnings report today, net sales were 72 million yen (roughly $786 million) for the first nine months of its 2012 fiscal year (which is set to end on March 31st), up 44% compared to last year. Profits increased 45.9%. Capcom specifically called out Dragon’s Dogma and Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate as profitable in Japan, plus mobile and social games including Resident Evil: Outbreak Survive and Smurf’s Village.

Monster Hunter 4 Being Prepped For Vita Release?

When Capcom announced Monster Hunter 4 for release on 3DS, it was a major coup for Nintendo. Monster Hunter was a major hit on PlayStation Portable, but with the newest game on 3DS and not Vita, it appeared to be a big, hugely consequential steal for Sony’s primary competitor.

Yet, questions have begun to arise about Monster Hunter 4 after it was revealed to be delayed. GoNintendo released a scan (via Operation Rainfall) from Japanese gaming magazine Game Lab – seen below – that indicates the nature of the delay has to do with one thing: Monster Hunter 4 is also coming to PlayStation Vita.

The trio join Pikmin 3 (which is due to come in the second quarter of the year) as well as The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct, which is set to arrive in March. Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate Gets Demo, Date

Capcom has finally announced a 19th March release date for Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate (22nd March in Europe).

The game will be available on both platforms as a direct download, and there’ll be a demo on the Nintendo eShop on February 21st if you want to try them out.

Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate is an HD-reskinned and improved version of Monster Hunter Tri, which released for the Wii in 2010. We played around with it at TGS last year and then again just afterwards – we’re impressed, but don’t know whether we can bring ourselves to start this monumentally absorbing game again from scratch. Can you?

Capcom's 3DS Games Heading to eShop

If you played and adored Resident Evil Revelations (like we did), you’ll be happy to know that you may have a fresh excuse to replay it in the near future. Capcom’s senior vice president, Christian Svensson, revealed the company’s plans to make past 3DS titles available to download on the 3DS eShop in a comment on Capcom’s official forums.

“Many of our our other previously released 3DS titles will be coming to the eShop in the coming months,” Svensson said. “Details to follow when we’re closer to release.”

In addition to Revelations, this likely means Capcom’s other 3DS titles – like Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D and Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition – have a good chance of making it to the eShop sometime soon. This confirmation is also a good indication that Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, which launches this March, could see a simultaneous eShop release.
