The Last of Us DLC Details Coming Soon

Naughty Dog has delivered word that the first real details on the upcoming downloadable content for The Last of Us will be coming soon.

In a Reddit Ask Me Anything, game director Bruce Straley and creative director Neil Druckmann were repeatedly asked for details on the highly anticipated DLC. While neither of the two were willing to offer up any specifics on what the DLC may entail, Druckmann did state, “News is on the way about the first DLC drop. Should hear about it this month,” presumably referring to some point in August.

Straley reiterated what we already knew from the announcement of The Last of Us Season Pass, which is that there are plans for one single-player story DLC and two multiplayer DLC releases. The latter seems likely to center around new maps, but it’s anyone’s guess as to when the single-player DLC will be set or which characters it will include, although Druckmann did concede that some characters from the game will be returning.

There is as of yet no indication of when the character will be released on Wii U. The previous DLC packs were finally released on Wii U at the beginning of July as promised.

Why Core Gamers Hate Free-to-Play

What if Borderlands 2 was the exact same game as it is today, but it was free?

Imagine a Borderlands 2 experience monetized by a player economy instead of a $60 up-front fee + $60 worth of post-launch DLC. You get the full game – the complete experience. If you choose to, you can buy and sell drops on a real-money auction house, with the creators taking a 10% cut. Simple.

It sounds like a friendly, generous system. Would you play it? My guess is I lost many of you at “Real Money Auction House.”

Is there a way to make “freemium” more than a dirty word for hardcore gamers, or will we always push back against anything more than paid cosmetic options?

Japanese site 1101.com (via NeoGAF) has published a discussion with Earthbound designer Shigesato Itoi, Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata, and Pikmin creator Shigeru Miyamoto. What Was Saints Row IV's Original, Insane Ending?

A slew of Saints Row IV talent, including creative director Steve Jaros and actor Troy Baker held a panel at Comic-Con and doled out some neat tidbits regarding the game. Perhaps most interestingly, the original ending to Saints IV was meant to unfold as an extended Bollywood musical sequence. Yep, that was almost a thing.

The team at Volition loved this idea, and went as far as to looking into a choreographer and seeking out the perfect song. Sadly, they realized that this would take too much time in order to meet the August 20 release date, so the ambitious finale was eventually scrapped.

Another fantastically insane detail that trickled out during the panel was that SRIV’s first piece of DLC is set to hit 45 days after the game launches. Enter the Dominatrix, which was originally slated to be an expansion for Saints Row: The Third, will be presented a mockumentary of content that had to be cut from the game. Ambitious, indeed.

New Borderlands 2 DLC, Level Cap Coming This Fall

During a panel at PAX Australia today, Gearbox confirmed that the level cap for Borderlands 2 will be raised by 11 levels to 72 this fall, plus new missions and raid bosses will be coming as additional DLC packs.

The level cap increase will come along with the Ultimate Vault Hunter Upgrade Pack 2: Digistruct Peak Challenge, which will be released for $5.00 before the end of October. The Digistruct Peak Challenge is a new map where Patricia Tannis will let players fight high-level enemies (which they can “over level” to create an “impossible” challenge) to earn new loot. An upcoming free update will also add additional backpack, ammo and bank slots.

Borderlands 2 Getting DLC Announcement Tomorrow

Randy Pitchford has revealed that an announcement about more Borderlands 2 DLC will be made tomorrow.

The president of Gearbox replied to a curious fan on Twitter, teasing that the wait is almost over for fresh information about new content for the popular shooter.

— Randy Pitchford (@DuvalMagic) July 18, 2013

Earlier this month, Pitchford made the surprise revelation that more DLC would be coming for Borderlands 2. As he explained at the time, “We did a Season Pass for Borderlands 2, and the Season Pass was like, ‘hey, if you buy the Season Pass we’re going to be doing four campaign DLCs, but you can get all four of them for the price of three if you buy upfront.’ So everyone has this expectation that those would be the four DLCs and then that’s it. We’re going to do more. We’re going to do some other things.”

Deadly Premonition Could Come to PC

The entrancingly bizarre Deadly Premonition may finally make its way to PC, following a Director’s Cut re-release on PS3 earlier this year.

Publisher Rising Star Games has made the game available to vote for on Steam Greenlight, giving potential players the chance to decide the game’s fate. It promises better graphics, a new scene from Swery65 (Deadly Premonition’s creator), new bonus DLC and Achievements/Steam Trading Cards over the recent PS3 Director’s Cut.

If you haven’t tried Deadly Premonition yet, looks like they’re just going to keep releasing it until you do. And you should – it’s the kind of game that just doesn’t get made anymore, the deeply flawed and deeply fascinating product of one man’s vision. Wouldn’t you say so, Zach?

Video: Grid 2 gets on with second DLC devoted to drifting

By Jonathon Ramsey

Filed under:

It hasn’t even been three weeks since the first Grid 2 DLC hit the digital intertubes, and here we are getting the second one. This could be because the Codemaster folks want to remedy one of the most noticeable omissions in a game we found an “awfully fun” way to pass time while you wait for a next-gen console: a lack of cars.

The Drift Pack DLC gets you Daijiro Yoshihara’s 650-horsepower Nissan 240sx, Tyler McQuarrie’s 750-hp Chevrolet Camaro, Chris Forsberg’s V8-powered NOS Energy Nissan 370Z and the 570-hp Team Orange Mitsubishi Evo X. You can get it on Xbox Live for 480 Microsoft Points ($6.00), on the PS3 for $5.99 and for Windows PCs for $5.99 from Steam.

The press release and video below can fill you in on more of the smoking details.

Video: Forza Horizon releases free 1000 Club DLC with two cars, new challenges

By Zach Bowman

Filed under:

Forza Horizon has released a new, and free, downloadable content pack. The 1000 Club DLC features two new cars – the 1956 Ford F100 pickup and 1995 RUF CTR2 – but the more important part is the fact that players can now partake in a rash of new challenges.

How many? Try five challenges for every car in the game. The DLC will even recommend challenges for you depending on which cars you already have in your garage. What’s more, they aren’t just kept to the typical stunts we’ve seen from the game so far.

For instance, you may have to cause a certain amount of damage by running over objects, or do something like jump your digital supercar a specific distance, and each car has its own set of unique challenges to keep the gameplay interesting. Did we mention that it’s also free, as in 400 MS points (or $5 US) less than the typical monthly Forza Horizon DLC pack? Check out the quick video below for a better look at what the free DLC has to offer.

Skyrim: Legendary Edition Outed by Retailer

A Skyrim: Legendary Edition containing all DLC packs as well as the original game has been spotted on a Polish retail site.

The listing over at Ultima (via Eurogamer Poland) reveals that the edition will contain the vampire-spectacular Dawnguard, the home-building Hearthfire and the dragon-riding Dragonborn all in one package.

It’s listed as being available for PS3 and Xbox 360 for roughly £35/$54, while the PC version comes in slightly cheaper at £29/$44.

So, is it real? Well, Bethesda is staying tight-lipped right now, but seeing as it’s regularly created Game of the Year bundles containing all expansion content for its previous titles, including for The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas, the smart money’s on this one being legit.

Dishonored: The Knife of Dunwall DLC Review

The Knife of Dunwall is the first piece of story-based DLC released for Dishonored. It’s a great slice of gameplay, built on one hell of a premise. Remember Daud, the leader of the assassins and all-round badass? I’m sure you know the guy… hung out with those BAMF-ing dudes with the gas masks… straight up murdered the Empress at the start of the story… was either killed or spared by you near the end?

You with me? Cool. He was a somewhat conflicted character in Dishonored: a hardened mercenary and killer, he was nonetheless guilt-ridden over his role in the death of the Empress and the city’s descent into chaos. The Knife of Dunwall tells Daud’s story, following him from that fateful day at Dunwall Tower through to – presumably – his confrontation with Corvo.
