It's in the Bag: See More Images From Michelle Williams's Louis Vuitton Campaign

By Justin Fenner

The first two ads from Michelle Williams’s Fall 2013 handbag campaign for Louis Vuitton caused so much buzz on their own that it’s only natural to assume the other images will get tongues wagging, too.

The photos, which were shot by renowned photographer Peter Lindbergh, feature Williams posing with the brand’s new W and classic Capucines bags and wearing Marc Jacobs‘s Fall 2013 ready-to-wear collection for the house. The brand said in a statement that it chose Williams for her enduring beauty because she picks challenging roles.

And with talent like hers, this surely won’t be the last time we see Williams in a campaign like this. Get a look at all of her ads here in the gallery.

Michelle Williams Stars in Louis Vuitton's Newest Ad Campaign

By Justin Fenner

Michelle Williams‘s latest starring role comes to us courtesy of Louis Vuitton, which cast the award-winning actress in its new handbag campaign.

Williams wears the lace slip dresses and coats from Marc Jacobs‘s Fall 2013 collection in the ads, but the images – shot by photographer Peter Lindbergh – are actually meant to advertise two Louis Vuitton handbags. The shots the brand released today feature its new W bag and are set to make their debut in the September issues of key fashion magazines. Another set of images featuring the Capucines bag will be out in October.

The house said in a statement that Williams was chosen for her “independent spirit, her passion for her craft, and her choice of daring and challenging roles.” And Williams is certainly no stranger to Vuitton – she wore one of the brand’s gowns to the 2012 Academy Awards, where she earned a best actress nomination for My Week With Marilyn.

Below, a full look at Williams’s new ads for Louis Vuitton. …read more

All the April 2013 Covers, So Far

By Christina Perez

Michelle Obama isn’t the only lady with bangs and a Vogue cover this month: Tina Turner graces the glossy’s German version, and Edie Campbell the British edition.

After a strong showing last month, Louis Vuitton‘s checkers make a few appearances for April as well – this time in the form of a long-sleeved crop top. Rihanna wears one with a long skirt for Elle UK, while January Jones pairs hers with an itsy-bitsy miniskirt for British Glamour. Despite the fact that some of her past covers haven’t performed well, Taylor Swift graces two major magazines this month: Vanity Fair and InStyle UK. She wears wispy pastel outfits on both.

Naomi Watts’ Louis Vuitton Minidress Isn’t Fit For The Front Row (PHOTOS)

By The Huffington Post News Editors

Kate Moss may have walked the runway at the Louis Vuitton fall/winter 2013 show today, but all eyes were on Naomi Watts as the actress sat front and center in a look that wasn’t exactly made for, well, sitting.

The Aussie looked gorgeous in her white Louis Vuitton minidress — the very same one a leggy Cara Delevingne modeled on the spring 2013 runway. And if all she had to do was walk a few yards in the number, Naomi would’ve done the look justice. But, alas, she had to sit.

The short hemline forced Ms. Watts to keep her hands firmly clasped between her legs the moment she took her front row seat. Sound like a familiar scene? If you remember, Pippa Middleton had a similar problem when she attended the Spring 2012 Temperley London runway in her own fate-tempting mini.

Louis Vuitton Fall 2013

By Christina Perez

Marc Jacobs certainly knows how to put a Fashion Month to bed. His Fall 2013 show for Louis Vuitton, presented Wednesday morning in the tented courtyard of the Louvre, was as elegant, comfortable, and spectacular as the boudoir-inspired slip dresses, coats, and pajama pants that came down the runway of his wallpapered hotel corridor set.

As the melancholy piano strains of Alexandre Desplat’s “River” (used on the soundtrack for the film Tree of Life) began, models in close-cropped wigs emerged from numbered, wooden hotel doors that lined the periphery of the carpeted runway. Each model left the door to her room ajar – exposing black and white film projections and rooms filled with Louis Vuitton luggage – did one full turn on the runway, and then returned to her room and closed the door. Then the cycle repeated itself with different doors, different models, and different clothes until the final segment, when Kate Moss emerged in a low-cut, full-length, sheer gown decorated with embroidery. The audience cheered.

By Dina Gachman, Contributor

A surefire way to remind yourself that you are not, in fact, part of the 1%, is to attend a fancy party at the Bulgari store in Beverly Hills. Last night the new store was filled with men in Louis Vuitton scarves and women in Chanel couture. We were all waiting for a peek at Dame Elizabeth Taylor’s incredible Bulgari jewels. In that sense we were all the same: None of us could touch the magnificent pieces since they were behind bulletproof glass. C’est la vie. …read more

Friends of fashionista who committed suicide reportedly say she was unstable, started online feuds

The fashionista who jumped to her death from the George Washington Bridge felt under siege by five frenemies she barred from her funeral via suicide note — including one who told her to overdose, The Post has learned.

“Go try to kill yourself on Xanax again, you unstable loser. Go f–k yourself and never speak to me again,” Alison Tinari wrote in a Facebook exchange with troubled Ashley Riggitano, who killed herself Wednesday, her 22nd birthday.

The blond beauty left behind a multipage, handwritten note in a Louis Vuitton bag that excluded Tinari and four other women from the funeral because of their contentious relationships through the years.

A source identified the others as Teresa Castaldo, Beth Bassil, Victoria Van Thunen and Samantha Horneff.

Van Thunen was Riggitano’s business partner at Missfits, a jewelry-design business. Castaldo and Bassil were classmates at Midtown’s Laboratory Institute of Merchandising, and Horneff was a friend from New Jersey.

Riggitano placed her handbag on a walkway at about 4:40 p.m. Wednesday before leaping from a midway point in the Jersey-bound lanes of the upper level, authorities said.

Prescription drugs, including Adderall, which is used to treat ADHD, and Klonopin, an anti-panic drug, were found in her bag.

Riggitano’s suicide notes — written in girlish cursive on lined, loose-leaf paper — revealed the depths of her despair.

“To any funeral, these people should not be allowed based upon words and actions,” she wrote about the five women.

New Jersey fashionista left 'grudge list' before jumping to death, sources say

A beautiful young fashionista jumped to her death from the George Washington Bridge last night — leaving behind a Louis Vuitton bag containing a “suicide diary” that included a list of five girls she did not want to attend her funeral, sources said.

Ashley A. Riggitano, 22, placed her handbag on a walkway at around 4:40 p.m. before leaping from a point midway in the Jersey-bound lanes of the upper level, authorities said.

Several witnesses, including riders on a jitney bus, watched in horror as she plunged into the Hudson River.

Her body was pulled out by the harbor patrol shortly after she jumped.

In the designer bag were pages of handwritten notes that described Riggitano’s torment and that singled out the five people.

“All my other ‘friends’ are in it for gossip,” she wrote. “Never there.”

She also directed her rage at a man who she said hadn’t treated her well. That person was invited to the funeral, but Ashley wrote she hopes he “gets what he deserves” when he gets there.

The stunning young woman, who worked as an intern for the New York-based jewelry and fashion designer Alex Woo.

Her family, reached at home in Paramus, NJ, would not comment on the tragic incident.

Researchers dig into why global consumers buy luxury goods

(Phys.org)—A young woman in Tokyo pays 243,000 Yen for a Louis Vuitton suitcase emblazoned with the company’s iconic monogram. Riccardo Tisci Renews Contract With LVMH, but What About Marc Jacobs?

By Justin Fenner

The industry rejoiced today over the news that Riccardo Tisci has extended his contract at Marc Jacobs has signed on for another stint at Louis Vuitton.

Tisci will continue in his role as Givenchy’s creative director for the next three years while the brand “shifts into an expansion mode” that hopes to capitalize on its current popularity. Tisci’s wildly salable clothing – like the rottweiler t-shirt from Fall 2011 that became a hit with customers and celebrities alike – are doubtless a part of his staying power at the brand.

In early January, Jacobs mentioned at both the WWD CEO Summit and a talk with Fern Mallis at 92nd Street Y that he and his business partner Marc Duffy were heading to Paris to talk about their contracts with LVMH, which were last renewed at the beginning of 2011. “I’m not really sure,” he said when WWD‘s executive editor Bridget Foley pressed him about specifics at the summit. “I know that we’re discussing renegotiations.”

There’s not much evidence to suggest that Jacobs hasn’t signed on the dotted line, although when he talked about his tenure at Louis Vuitton with Mallis, he said, “I’ve been there for 15 years – though I don’t know if I’ll be there for 15 more.” Jacobs is the only creative director Louis Vuitton has ever had, and it’s difficult to imagine what the brand would look like without his aesthetic and elaborate runway staging.

But creative directors – unlike Supreme Court justices or tenured university professors – don’t get lifetime appointments. Jacobs was, for a long time, the front-runner for the creative director’s chair at Dior, suggesting that he’s prepared to leave Vuitton for the right opportunity. But after the Dior talks ended, Jacobs said of his job, “There is so much more left to do and building Louis Vuitton into a fashion company is something nobody else can say they really started.”

Luxury group LVMH profit rose 12 pct in 2012

French luxury conglomerate LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton says its net profit grew 12 percent last year, driven partly by good sales in jewelry and at luxury malls.

The company behind Givenchy dresses and Louis Vuitton luggage said Thursday it pulled in €3.4 billion ($4.6 billion) in profit. Revenue was up 19 percent to €28.1 billion ($38.1 billion).

The market for luxury goods has been nearly impervious to the global economic slowdown, and LVMH has ridden that wave well. CEO Bernard Arnault said they can barely keep their Hennessy cognac in stock, as evidence of the continuing demand for high-end products.

The largest jump in sales came from the jewelry and watches group, which grew 46 percent, much of that due to the acquisition of fine jeweler Bulgari.

Spring 2013 Shoe Preview! The Wildest Pairs From Paris's Runways

By Christina Perez

The runways of Paris offered some of the kookiest shoes of the season: there were clunky, fur-lined sandals at Céline, impossibly slender mini pumps at Louis Vuitton, metallic sphere-heeled slingbacks at Alexander McQueen – just to name a few. Of course, there were also plenty of highly wearable options as well; the metallic sandals with wood heels at Chloé and pointy loafer wedges at Hermés were particularly chic. All the noteworthy options from the runways, right here.

Italian court denies Berlusconi bid to halt sex trial before election

A Milan court on Monday rejected a bid by former Premier Silvio Berlusconi to halt his sex-for-hire trial because of Italy‘s general election campaign, a ruling that means a verdict could come before the February vote.

The judges deliberated for four hours before deciding that the trial would go ahead. The defense also decided they didn’t need to hear testimony from the Moroccan woman at the center of the case, Karima el-Mahroug, the last witness.

El-Mahroug had appeared in court on Monday ready to testify after having failed to show on two previous dates, purportedly because she was in Mexico on vacation.

Berlusconi is accused of paying for sex with el-Mahroug, better known as Ruby, when she was 17 and during his notorious “bunga bunga” parties — supposedly racy soirees featuring many young women — and then using his office to cover it up. Both deny sexual contact.

El-Mahroug had been the last witness due to testify, meaning a verdict could come before the Feb. 24-25 elections in which Berlusconi is heading a center-right coalition.

Berlusconi’s defense lawyer, Niccolo Ghedini, had filed a motion to suspend the proceeding, citing the demands of the election campaign. The prosecution opposed the request, arguing that Berlusconi is not the formal head of his party nor its official candidate for premier, and that he has infrequently shown up for trail anyway, as is his right.

In their ruling, the judges said Berlusconi’s absences for a political campaign were a personal choice and couldn’t be compared with having a parliamentary obligation — which has been accepted as a legitimate impediment that can allow a trial to be delayed.

Prosecutors had said they didn’t need el-Mahroug’s court testimony, explaining they had what they needed from other evidence already submitted. Berlusconi’s defense, which had originally called her as a witness, said Monday they didn’t need to hear her testify. They offered no explanation for the change in strategy.

El-Mahroug’s lawyer, Paola Boccardi, said her client wasn’t angry that she didn’t have to testify, just “surprised that she wasn’t heard.”

El-Mahroug looked relaxed, chatting with her lawyer. She wore a dark parka with fur trim, Ugg boots and carried a fashionable Louis Vuitton handbag.

In saying that she needn’t testify, the judges thanked el-Mahroug for appearing.

Secret account dispute snarls French fiscal chief

The man at the forefront of France‘s fight against fiscal fraud is now one of those being investigated.

Budget Minister Jerome Cahuzac has spent months singling out corporate multinational tax dodgers, citizens who live abroad to avoid taxes and those within France who stash money in overseas accounts. Now he is ensnared in just the sort of investigation he thought would help turn France‘s finances around, as prosecutors take a close look at an online journal’s allegations that he transferred money from a Swiss account into one in Singapore.

Cahuzac, a former plastic surgeon who specialized in hair plugs, has countered with a defamation complaint against the online site Mediapart. So far his boss — President Francois Hollande, who famously said he does not care for rich people — has backed the man he appointed to keep France‘s finances in line.

It was Cahuzac who tallied just how much potential revenue France lost last week when the country’s highest court threw out Hollande’s plan to tax the wealthy at 75 percent. Cahuzac was the one standing before the cameras, promising to battle fiscal fraud and singling out “a certain search engine” in legal negotiations to regularize its tax situation. And he was the engineer of a 2012 campaign manifesto affirming that that “taxes are a cornerstone of our social pact.”

In a statement Tuesday on his website, Cahuzac welcomed the preliminary investigation into his own finances.

It’s a step, he wrote, that would show his “complete innocence of the absurd accusations.”

Jean-Luc Melenchon, a leader of France‘s far-left party who is no fan of Cahuzac, said the budget minister should nonetheless keep his position for the time being.

“Don’t judge him by his arrogant airs, his lordly pretensions or his social liberal insolence,” Melenchon said.

France‘s economy minister and Cahuzac’s superior, Pierre Moscovici, went even further on Wednesday, telling Europe 1 “we spent 2012 together and we’ll spend 2013 together.”

The story — notably the back-and-forth between Mediapart and the budget minister — is getting increasing attention in France, especially as the country’s economy continues to weaken.

Mediapart has reported that Cahuzac had a secret UBS bank account until 2010, when the funds were transferred to Singapore. The site, written about Cahuzac since December, maintains a separate section devoted solely to the budget minister despite his defamation lawsuit. It includes a recording, which the site says is Cahuzac’s voice, of a man talking about his secret account.

Governments across Europe have cracked down on the practice of using secret accounts to avoid taxes. Switzerland, for example, has begun helping out foreign tax offices, including revealing the identities of account holders.

In Greece, prosecutors of the nearly bankrupt nation recently asked for a new list of Greeks with Swiss bank accounts after fearing that the contents of an earlier list had been altered. Four relatives of an ex-minister were missing from the original list, court authorities have said.

The French government has also made a priority of going after wealthy citizens that the Socialist government accuses of shirking their fair share. Hollande’s government has promised to reintroduce the 75 percent tax within weeks, despite the threat of losing two of the country’s most prominent figures.

Gerard Depardieu, the French actor, took Russian citizenship this week. And Bernard Arnaud, the head of luxury goods conglomerate LVMH, best known as the house of Louis Vuitton, has decamped to neighboring Belgium, which has lower taxes.
